I haven't been to Pets West in a long time but was sad to see when I went recently that all of their inventory was gone. The shelves were completely empty. All the shelving and displays were still in the store giving off a "going out of business" vibe. I asked if they were moving. The employee on duty said they were transitioning to services and away from retail. I haven't signed up for any training there so I cannot rate them for that. Since I went to Pets West to purchase supplies, treats, toys, and chews, I can say it was a huge disappointment. I attended training classes in the past and may again, but I'm skeptical given the recent reviews about boarding and daycare. On the plus side, the two employees were friendly. read more

Cleanliness of self-service wash area /boarding needs immediate attention. It's extremely dirty & the smell is absolutely awful. We saw dogs that were boarded, please don't leave your dog here. They are better at home. Trust me. One of the employees bathed a dog & placed him in a kennel with a fan pointed at it. Sad. read more

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG HERE!!!! My husband asked to see where our dog would be kenneled with a tour and they attempted to tell us "no". This should have been the first sign. After touring, they assured us playdates would be supervised and safe. They did not inform us of multiple wounds (10 were found that looked like dog bites) until an hour before picking him up. One slice was almost 2 inches on his leg that needed to be treated by an ER vet. Update: the ER vet had to put him under for suspected dog bites. 10 wounds over the 5 days he stayed here. read more

We have come in a few times to grab our pit mix some toys. He is of course a big chewer so we needed to find some toys that would last more than five minutes. There are now a few toys that we get duplicates of because he loves them so much and they last pretty long for an aggressive chewer. Although visiting Pets West for many years, the current owners are no longer providing the quality service and products. Recently, we were quoted a grooming job for $40-$45 for a 4 lb dog. When we picked up the dog, the bill had gone to over $75. No advance notice was given and the clerk acted like he was doing us a favor for grooming the dog. This was very poor customer service. The clerk was rude and insulting and had no customer service skills. I would think twice before using their services as they appear not to have your long term patronage in mind when selling you anything. read more

The store yes I would recommend, but the animal cleaning wash area no! It was a mess with no shampoo, the water wouldn't even get warm. Luckily we brought our own shampoo and soap because my mother called and spoke to a lady that said they were out. I would just recommend and advise that you keep the dog room neat and clean like the rest of the store. Soap should be provided since we are paying the wash fee. read more

Upset is an understatement. We have had our dog boarded here quite a few times, and while there were some things we weren't thrilled about, he always came back fed and happy. This last time we boarded him at Pet's West (during the holidays) was so incredibly upsetting, I'm not even sure where to start. Our dog is essentially our child, which is the case for many pet owners, and we always make sure to drop him off with more than enough food, thorough instructions, and we make sure he has his bed from home so he feels comfortable. We typically always call to check on him, which was no different this past trip. We were told that he was doing great, loving play time, and eating great. We were happy to hear that and felt at ease. When we picked him up, we quickly realized that he did not have his bed for the entirety of his stay, and he was literally covered in scrapes, scratches, and a large "gash" on his side. I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I was livid to find out that he had missed TWO meals. We had left an extra bag of food (as always, just in case) and he had not yet been fed for the night when we picked him up, so he should have only had two bags of food left. He had four bags left, which made zero sense. He either wasn't fed twice, or given another dog's food twice? I understand that having a lot of dogs, especially around the holidays, can be extremely overwhelming, but you quite literally have one job: keep the dogs healthy, safe, and fed. My husband and I tried to have an abundant amount of grace and tried to understand what could have happened, but that all went out the window when we called to notify the owner about how our dog was treated. He was immediately defensive saying it was normal for dogs to come back with scratches, and that sometimes dogs don't finish or eat their food from the previous meal, so they do not give them more food for the next meal (which makes zero sense to me). I can tell you that in the two years of our dog's life, he has never ONCE missed a meal, and he has never ONCE had an issue with eating while being boarded/traveling/etc. if you cannot manage a certain amount of dogs, or make sure they don't get attacked, don't board that many dogs at once! we never received any semblance of an, "I'm sorry", or, "I will take all of this information into account to better our customer experience". Lastly, our dog is fully up to date on all of his shots and check-ups, but we have never been asked for updated records or anything of the sort, which leads me to believe that there are plenty of dogs there that are unvaccinated. I have attached some pictures to show just how horrible he looked when we got him back (some of the scabs had fallen off when I gave him a bath). Whatever you do, just do not take your dog here. I'm mortified to think about what else my dog endured for a week. read more

My dog still has anxiety from the boarding experience he had at this facility. They used to be a great place for everything and you could trust them to take care of your animals like they were their animals. Now I firmly believe if you let the new management/owners take care of your animals you just don't care about your animals. Sorry, I'm at the vet getting my dog a checkup and he is still so scared to even go with the vet techs to get his weight it's just sad. He was never like this until he stayed at Pets West Aledo. Keep your fur babies far away from this place until they get an owner that cares more about animals and less about overpacking the house to make an extra buck. read more

My dog spent 8 days boarding here. After promising to send pics and videos, we never received any. They are also supposed to wash your pet if they board for a week, which they did not do. We called to check on him 3 times and was told he was fine each time, but then when we picked him up he had an eye infection (red eye draining yellow gunk). When complaint was raised with them, they showed no concern, even suggesting the eye infection "could have been preexisting " (it was not, but if it had been they shouldn't accept dogs with visible contagious infections). If I could give negative stars I would. A staff member even told me when I called to complain that they had more animals than expected and didn't have time to check on them as often as they usually do. Ultimately, we should have been told that when we went to drop him off, and should have gotten a call as soon as his eye started getting red (it's in their papers when you sign up). They have declined to offer any sort of reimbursement for the boarding. He's been home 2 days and still not eating much so he may have to go back to the vet again from the poor care received here. The saddest part is they really had a terrible uncaring attitude that this happened. read more

One star rating is too high. I had problems with the pet therapist several years ago. Now store is under new management & there's been no improvement. As long as you don't have a problem, everything is fine. But don't complain about anything. PetsWest "never" makes a mistake & has no concept of customer service. Lackadaisical attitude comes from management & goes down to employees. They forget that every person who walks through their door pays their salary. They don't work for PetsWest, they work for customers. The young man with thick glasses is rude. They charged a transfer fee for a training class, then 6 days later said I couldn't transfer to it, and wouldn't give me transfer fee back. Unethical !!!! I have been coming to this store for a few years- and am not sure why I haven't left a review yet!?!? If you are looking for top quality pet food and people who absolutely know their products, then this is the place for you. I have a cat with a special needs digestion problem that no meds seemed to help. After visiting this store and a little trial and error, I finally found something to help her. Turns out that a wet food with pumpkin was the trick. The people are friendly and all know their products really well. They only carry high quality feeds and know the benefits of different ingredients. There's is also a loyalty card and the punches get your a discount. I took my two Yorkies in for grooming service At Pets West and Kim did a fabulous job. Both had not been groomed recently so I'm certain they were handful but she did a first rate job. Don't waste your time signing up with them. We had our Doberman pup scheduled in March and paid in full and understand that the pandemic affected the classes, but we had no communication from them telling us what's going on unless we reached out and then it seemed to always be wrong info. We were finally excited to bring him in to be trained and socialized, called to confirm this morning, drove the 30 minutes to get there only to show up and be told that our classes didn't start until the 15th. We got a refund and will be finding somewhere else to take our dog. The apology for the "miscommunication" was nice but didn't get us any closer to getting our Doberman trained or justify the wasted time we could have spent looking for someone else to train him. read more

We love Petswest. Dan, Laura and the rest of the staff are so helpful and knowledgeable. We started going out there for conformation classes but they also offer obedience, agility, puppy kindergarten amongst others. They have a huge indoor facility with mirrors so you can watch how how you are doing. The trainers are very experienced and knowledgeable as well. Some of the trainers are AKC judges and they have many years experience in the ring. They have a HUGE amount of high quality foods available, along with toys and grooming products. If they don't have somethng available, they try and get it for you. They just added on to their store and they have a hydrotherapy area now. We are very happy that we found Petswest and HIGHLY recommend them. read more

The rehab area is extraordinarily unprofessional in handling day to day scheduling. I was seeking to set up an initial evaluation for my aging goldendoodle, had a very flexible schedule, and was told it would literally take months and to keep calling back and see if I could get in. When I complained, LJ, their ONLY rehab therapist with numerous certification initials behind her name, she told me, "FU, if that's the way you feel", and hung up. Subsequently, I contacted the owner of PetsWest and reported LJ's unprofessional language and behavior, and I never received any response. Even though this facility is less than 5 miles from my home, I will take my dog to a Keller facility that has the same therapy. They set up my evaluation on the first phone call with a friendly, appreciative, professional attitude. PetsWest can take some lessons in social skills. read more
