The Petmart located at I-25 and Montgomery was not helpful at all. We're looking at boarding our two fur babies for 9 days. Upon asking the receptionist for information and a tour of thier facility, she immediately stated that we are not allowed to tour the facility, just the lobby area. She the gave us a blue pamphlet and said all the information is in there if you have any questions just ask. The facility appeared to be short staffed. She was definitely not helpful at all. I took my dog for a grooming for the very first time. Right off the bat the staff was really rude. The icing on the cake was when the groomer kept referring to my dog as a "he" rather than a "she" after I mentioned she was female. Normally I wouldn't make a big deal about it but because they were so rude to me from the get go I became very upset. Honestly I should've walked out after that and declined the service but my dog really needed a grooming. When I returned to pick up my dog the grooming staff was a bit nicer to me. The groomer did a good job cleaning my dog up which is why I gave it an extra star. They didn't give my dog a Halloween bandanna let alone a bandanna at all which was disappointing because the package I purchased said it included one which made me disappointed. When I checked in on Yelp I noticed a deal pop up for 10% off a grooming or bath. When I tried to claim it I was told they don't honor it which disappointed me even further. I don't like to leave a negative review but overall this experience was very disappointing and I'm not sure I'll be returning to this location. read more

The staff aren't racist you people just keep trying to put fish and rodents in abusive tank sizes and you're pressed the staff won't let you torture your animals to death. Sorry the 40 cent goldfish need a 100g tank but they're extremely dirty fish and they get huge, they're meant for ponds, not your garbage 20-40 gallon tank. Hamsters travel long distances in the wild and need a minimum 40g tank, ideally a 75g, how about you research the living creatures you're promising to care for instead of cheaping out and whining? Bad reviews are mostly people who see animals as toys, not living things, and should be considered good reviews by anyone who actually cares about living things and doesn't just want cheap entertainment for their kids. Company also has no control over banfield so take your bad reviews to them. Staff has no control over the return policy so stop crying if they can't return things without a receipt. read more

Horrible service! I placed an order online for pick up in store. I received an email that my item - yes, only one item - was ready for pick up. When I arrived, the cashier was frazzled as she didn't know how to help the customer in her line. I asked her where to go for online order pick up and she called someone up to help me. When the guy came up, he goes, "Oh, THAT order." He then called the manager up. The manager then told me that they didn't have my item in stock and never carried it - despite it saying in stock online. Then the story changed to the item was a frequently stolen item and all 3 "in stock" items were recently stolen. Um... okay? Then the manager just ran away from me and came back, claiming he found my item after all. My item was a dog stroller for a 35+ lb dog. The manager had previously claimed it was the only dog stroller they had ever carried. The item he brought up was a dog stroller for a 25 lb or LESS dog - which mine is not - which is also worth less than what I had paid for. He eventually gave me a refund. I'm confused as to why his story never made sense and will definitely not be back. There's clearly a lot of theft here. I ve used this groomer over five years. Today was a disappointment. My dog had been treated for a sty, with my own vet. Had been several weeks since, no longer under treatment, but a small bump remained. I pointed this out to groomer. I've used wipes daily without concern. But the groomer must have been rough with her and made it bleed. Instead of receiving my permission first, they brought her to their in-house vet and were planning on charging me. No way! NEW UPDATE: The district manager got back to me. His sales staff and management team had kept all the things that happened away from him. He made things right. However, the same groomer still works at THIS location. By all accounts Angie is their best groomer and she works at the new Winrock mall location. Here you can even go behind and see where your dog is kept. For these reasons I'll give this location 2 stars, but suggest you NOT take your pets here as long as ASPEN is employed at this location. UPDATE: No manager got back to me. In fact my dog was "banned" from returning for grooming and I found out bc my mother tried to book her dog who has a name similar to my dog. Lastly, they NEVER did an incident report which I found out was suppose to be done immediately, and there is none on file. WOW! Holding the dog accountable for the abuse of a groomer. No managerial followup, and lacking ownership but totality- even refusing to give information on how to contact the GM or DM on this matter. love taking my dog here to see Eugine for his monthly grooming. Awhile back my dog got a "bad report card" with his nail trimming. Since then I have made it a point to pay the extra $12 to get his nails grinded rather than cut because he had his quick cut, and this is why he nips when his nails are cut (verses grinding). NO MATTER HOW CURVED THE NAIL IS GRINDING IS ALWAYS AN OPTION!! Needless to say, another employee named Aspen (pictured) was using nail clippers on my dog when I went in to pick him up. My dog was crying, I said I could help, then I asked her to STOP and use the grinder. She said "they are too curved and I have to do this first". NOT TRUE. Birds get their beaks and nails grinded, I paid the extra $12 for grinding, and no where is there a stipulation as to length for grinding. It is a matter of time consumption and focus to do this. Obviously she wanted to cut (literally) corners. Not only did she violently grab him and cut in front of me but she broke through THREE of his quicks. I demanded she stop and another employee came in to help Eugine finish the job by grinding. To make matters worse Aspen proceeds to whisper to Eugine that my dog has gotten a "bad report card before" IN FRONT OF ME!! I wonder why??? At the end of the day, do NOT let Aspen touch your beloved animal. Furthermore if your animal gets a "bad report card" due to nails- I would question the circumstances NOT your dog. Lastly, when you're paying an extra $12 to get your animals nails grinded not cut- make sure that is what is happening. read more

This review concerns the pet "hotel" services only; I've got no qualms with the selection of products at this location, it's a huge store. Pros about the hotel: - A brief review of my dog's age, species, and history, particularly vaccinations, and we were good to go. (They even put me on hold and called my vet, but bring your shot records anyway.) - Extremely accommodating. I called about 45 minutes before I needed doggie daycare and after a quick check, the girl on the other end said they had availability, I could bring him in. - Affordable. Clearly daycare for busy pet owners who need an option away from home. Cons: - Customer service at the desk was pretty lackluster and didn't give me much confidence that my pup was going to be in good hands. - After a 3+ hour stay, my dog was clearly more than a little freaked out and ready to go. I assumed, don't know why, that daycare included some socializing and running around; turns out the dog was just placed in a cage for the entire stay. With all of those strange sounds, smells and animals, this doesn't make sense as an alternative to crating our dog at home. - Pay close attention to all of the extras they offer up front. Nail clipping, washing, and treats are just some of the services they never told me were at an extra cost, and while I assumed they cost extra, they could've mentioned additional costs when pitched. read more

Pros: Great for a quick, last minute grooming appointment. They're easy to accommodate last minute request. Open early. Friendly groomers make nice with your pet, which gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. Cons: A bit pricey for the services rendered, but as I said, it'll do in a pinch. Tip: I advise looking for grooming coupons to reduce the grooming cost, just seems pricey for a sub-par, average job. Or look for a non-chain retail facility. read more

As far as selection goes, I think this PetSmart is a little better than the surrounding PetSmarts or Petcos in ABQ. I've been trying to get my dog to put on weight for a while now, so I do buy him a lot of wet food to mix with his kibble, and this PetSmart has a pretty large grain-free selection. Anything I buy for my dog tends to be more upscale (it's almost like supporting him costs more than supporting myself) so I mainly stick to the brands: Blue Buffalo, Nulo, and Wellness Core. This store carries a lot of the wet food and treats from these brands, but not a great selection for the dry kibble. However, if you want kibble flavors beyond chicken, you can order it online and have it sent to the store. Overall, this is my go-to pet store, but I would not recommend their vet services to a friend (note: I have only been to the Banfield Hospital once). I still have yet to try their grooming services, but I am always tempted because they offer some serious couponage, especially around holidays. Also, when I'm shopping I usually run into some of the puppies that are being trained--the group of owners and their dogs train throughout the store--and it actually seems informative and well led. I know my dog could use some behavioral training, so it's definitely something I'll think about! read more

I got to PetSmart Doggie Day Care pretty often and have been thinking I should write an update since it's "not that bad". And then Thanksgiving week happened. Holy hell. Let's start with Monday of Thanksgiving week. Now, they have been saying to me for weeks - make your Thanksgiving plans. And I did. I confirmed that we'd be there our regular schedule and nothing extra; I'd keep him with me on the actual holiday. It was set in stone, every time they brought it up. Then I arrive Monday night to pick him up, and there are taped up signs saying that on Wednesday the PetsHotel will be closing at 6, not 9. This is the FIRST time I have heard anything at all about this. Three nights before Thanksgiving they are springing this on me. I'm NOT happy. The ONLY reason I go to this PetSmart is because they close at 9, and I can not pick up before 8 pm. I prefer everything about every other doggie camp we've tried, except the hours. Where am I going to find a dog sitter out of the blue for the night before Thanksgiving?!! So I go speak with the night manager of the actual store. The store is closing at 9, so would they maybe please do me a favor and allow me to get my dog at 8. Someone/anyone could let me back there to get him. (I would even pay a little extra, although I don't think I should. Luckily they didn't ask me to.) Night manager - who I don't think has the BEST customer service in general - said she didn't foresee a problem and she understood what my predicament was. She left a note with all my info so that someone would confirm with me Tuesday that Wednesday night would be ok. Tuesday comes and goes. In the morning hen I drop off the PetsHotel manager wants to argue with me, telling me that the ENTIRE store closes at 6 on Wed. No it doesn't. I confirmed that with the night manager just the night before! Yes it does she says. NO IT DOESN'T. So I wait all day, NO PHONE CALL. No communication whatsoever. I am able to call in a favor with a friend, and someone agrees to take my dog Wed night. I get there to pick him up Tuesday (and ask the night manager - what the hell? Where was my phone call, even just to tell me no that they won't accommodate me) and lookie here - all their signs are down! They tell me I'm in luck - corporate emailed that the day camp will stay open regular hours Wed night! Ummm, I was supposed to get a phone call anyway, so I ask why they didn't call me with that info. "Oh Jaime" (the PetsHotel manager who tried to argue that the entire store was closing) "said that since your dog was here to just wait and tell you tonight." So rude, so unprofessional. AND THAT'S NOT THE WORST PART. So Wed I take him in as planned. I get a phone call at 8:00, just before I arrive - someone is there trying to take my dog. What on earth?? There is no one authorized to pick up my dog, so they've taken her ID and are calling me. I had no idea what to do. Should I call the cops? Is she kidnapping my dog?? So I asked to speak to her to get to the bottom of it, and I totally chew this lady out - who is she and why is she trying to take my dog?!! Yeah, she wasn't. She was there to get HER OWN DOG, but the staff thought she "pointed at" my dog. I'm really at my wits' end with these people! I can't wait til my night schedule changes so I can take him ANYPLACE else. read more

I do not trust anyone with my dog Loki but a friend of mine told me about an employee named Meranda that does a great job at the PetSmart on Eubank in Albuquerque. I decided to give it a try and rake him. Boy am I glad i did. Meranda was great with him and also great with customer service skills, She explained everything to me that they were going to do and she kept him pretty calm which is hard to do if he does not know you. PetSmart is lucky to have her as an employee. I would recommend her to anyone. read more

PET HOTEL- We dropped off our two dogs on a Friday and picked them up on Sunday. We have a 6 month old St. Bernard and a six year old Miniature Dachshund When we dropped off the dogs I explained to the person at the front desk that he cannot have more than 50 ounces of water per day because he can't control his water intake and our vet has told us he can drown himself because of that. The person at the front desk didn't seem to care and I'm not sure if she even wrote anything down. She said they leave the water bowl out all day every day. We gave her separate bags full of dog food that should have lasted them through the weekend. Our st cannot have grains as he gets extremely sick (vomiting + diarrhea) and I left a note with them that stated that. On my way back to town Sunday, my phone notified me that I had a voicemail from petsmart from Saturday. Which I didn't get because we were without cellular service in another state. The voicemail stated that our st was out of food by Saturday afternoon. He still needed 3 more meals. I was extremely confused as we left Him with plenty of food. I was also worried that he was fed any type of dog food (we have him on a specific brand) because I hadn't called them back since I didn't know I had missed calls. When we arrived I asked what he ate and why his food ran out. The front desk person nonchalantly said they probably fed it to another dog because they have too many dogs to keep track of OR they lost the bag. Which she had already given me the bag of empty food. I pay a lot of money for my dogs food and cant believe it would have been given to another dog and mine was left without food. So I asked what he was given and she said "oh we wouldn't have given him our food" so I asked again, what he ate and she said "he couldn't have grains right? Oh he should be fine" so I assume someone fed him something random, if at all. I asked if there was someone I could talk to about this and she said "no." And that was it. She left to go get my dogs. When my dogs came out, My st had the wrong leash and collar on. He had a pink collar that had another dogs tags. I was fuming by then but I remained calm because no one knew anything about anything so there wasn't any use of complaining. My husband asked for his collar and the front desk person said she didn't know it was the wrong one. So my husband asked if she could get it and she left and came back saying couldn't find it. We asked if she could keep searching. Finally she came back with Our dogs collar. I left the store in tears. What if they would have given my dog to someone else because the tags said a different name? And that person decided to take my dog? So many things ran through my head. Our st barely made it home without using the restroom everywhere. He had diarrhea for a few days and wouldn't move from one spot for a week so I was nervous he had grains although I know he could have been stressed as well. We were also overcharged for play dates. We asked for 2 for each dog and paid for 3. We were so exhausted with everything by the time we paid that we didn't say anything at the time. A couple of weeks later we came back for a refund (after speaking with a manager) and the front desk person was extremely rude to customers around me and I could tell that they were as appalled as I was. It seems like PetsMart is heading down the same path as K-Mart and Sears. Lousy customer service, they have an, "I don't care attitude" and the management is awful. I have been to two different PetsMarts here in Albuquerque and it is the same in both places. Today, December 24th I was scheduled to get my Morki groomed at 9:00. When I arrived they said I did not have an appointment. After reading the reviews, this seems to be nationwide. Spoke to two different managers and their attitude was basically that they didn't care whether I shop there or not. You loose one customer, you loose 10, that 10 becomes 100 and that 100 becomes 1,000 and on and on. I grew-up in retail and I would NEVER think of treating a customer in this manner. I will never step another foot in PetsMart again. And what is interesting is that in Houston when I lived there, it was the same attitude at PetsMart. You went into PetCo and they treated you like royalty. You went into PetsMart and they treated you like dirt. I wonder when they will declare bankruptcy because you don't run a business like this! Made an appointment ahead of time to have my 11 month old puppy groomed.....set for 9AM and booked Doggie Day Care so he could play the rest of the day. They said they would groom him which would take about an hour and then move him to Day Care. I told them I would pick up around 3:30. When I got there to pick him up at 3:30, he was still being groomed. Had been in a cage all day waiting to be groomed. Hadn't even gotten to play. I had asked ahead of time if they had a Groomer that could trim my Kerry Blue Terrier to the breed standard. I was assured that the most experienced groomer would be working first thing on that morning and she could trim him. Not only did he spend a miserable day at the groomer, but he was not trimmed correctly. In addition, they had worked over his Anal glands..........he was sore for 5 days. The store is generally clean , but I was a little disappointed this customer service. I buy my dogs slightly more expensive and my favorite brand was shown at a nicely discounted price. When I got to the register the bag ran up twice as much. I was told they stocked it incorrectly and they were discounting the older bag style and gave me a 10% discount. I don't normally complain, but it was a $15 different and she asked her fellow cashier if I should even get a discount right in front of me. I am a cashier at another store and I have always been taught that customers get the advertised price, even if it is your fault that an item was priced incorrectly. Never again! First, no one ever called before I dropped my dog off to let me know they had switched dog food. Had I known, I would have taken my dog's food. Also upon arrival, the place had a foul smell that was still in the air 3 days later when I picked my dog up. Second, they had a very illogical explanation for the "Holiday" daily price for boarding. I was told that holiday per day stay was $29.00 and $27.00 for non holiday. At checkout I was charged $29.00 per day, plus $1.00. So all in all, it was $30 per day for holiday boarding. No one could explain what this extra dollar per day was for. My dog came back smelling terrible and with bad diarrhea not to mention dehydrated. She drank 3 large bowls of water as soon as she got home. This place has gone down the tubes! I will never board my dog here again and I'll be sure to let my friends, family and coworkers now about this bad experience. read more

They leave your dog in the back in a cage for 3 of those hours with others dogs crying and barking. It just breaks my heart. My cat had to get an emergency visit to the Banfield Pet Hospital a few days ago, which is located inside the Petsmart, while waiting for my cat to be scene and waiting for his labwork results to be finalized, I had plenty of time to check this place out - I had 5 hours to spare, no joke. Of course, we took a break from the barks and meows of Petsmart and grabbed a bite to eat, but I spent a substantial amount of those 5 hours, shopping for pet supplies, checking out the Pet Hotel (that's right, pet hotel), the doggie day camp, training and grooming areas, and other features. This Petsmart has it all under one roof, you name it, they've got it. Fish & aquatics, reptiles, hamsters & guinea pigs, and all the pet supplies you can shake a stick at. The staff was very helpful in helping us find the right cat food for urinary tract and weight control, that was geared to finicky eaters -- imagine that? A overweight cat that is a finicky eater. :) But, the staff helped me not only find food for these issues, but also cat treats that contained these two needs as well. Additionally, they made suggestions on how to avoid having these emergency "surprise" visits to the pet hospital by preventative measures. I also used the bathroom a couple times (as I drank a large chai tea before hand), and found the bathrooms to be clean and tidy, which sometimes is not the case in pet stores. read more
