Monte vista was the only boarding center I found with legit suites for dogs! I was looking for a great boarding spot for my lab since we were flying into cali for the weekend. (Your pets need to have all their shots and documents before your reservation is confirmed). I loved the staff, very friendly and Zeus seemed to have a good time. We had some issues with Zeus forms being admitted.. no big deal, just call to confirm before you head in. It would be great if they had some kind of package for boarding & grooming? We still haven't received any pictures or a report card from his stay. I would really like for Monte vista to have some kind of webcams so parents can see their fur babies. Like I said I never received any updates on Zeus unless I called. Daily pictures/updates on the app would've been nice but again we did not receive anything. They checked in every single toy, treat, bed, etc at the beginning of the stay but somehow we didn't get our dog food back? Had to go back 20 min for that lol. We were on vacation for a week and during that time our dog went completely blind, and into organ failure due to not eating. The story that I am getting from the facility keeps changing. We are beyond upset. Dropping off a dog who was given a clean bill of health the week prior by her vet (she has dental decay and a heart murmur) and then picking up a dying dog covered in her own vomit is not acceptable. The report card we received from them while we were gone stated she was doing "great". They didn't notice she went blind while in their care, nor that she had lost an extreme amount of weight. After getting her home, we made the decision to take her to an emergency vet facility. Due to her condition, the decision was made to put her down to end her suffering. We are devastated. We have used them for our girls for years with no problems until now. I do not believe our girl was treated with malicious intent, but with neglect. How do you not notice a dog has gone completely blind in your care and is starving to death? The manager Cayla, was kind, but the story we have been told has changed multiple times and many excuses have been given. The bottom line is our dog was neglected while in their care and it has resulted in her death. The owner lives in TX but I did speak to him by phone and after a lengthy discussion, he reimbursed us the cost of our dogs stay, and for Daisy's cremation. He also owns the Zia Pet Hospital which is located right next door. I understand both businesses are currently up for sale. I did reach out inquiring if I could make a grooming appointment for one of our other dogs, as the groomer was wonderful and always did a great job, and is separate from the boarding, but was told no. Took my 19 month old puppy to them for socialization. We adopted her from a shelter a year ago and after 2 orthopedic surgeries that prevented puppy classes and socialization, she is very hesitant to engage with other dogs or new people. My dog, Star, is a 77 pound Staffordshire Terrier/Brittany Spaniel mix, not aggressive, friendly once acquainted. A plan was outlined to me for what was called a 1 on 1 approach. Star would not be in any group, but would have 1 to 1 care for 15 to 20 minutes at intervals. Star would be introduced to one dog at a time. If the first dog introduced to her was not accepted by Star, not a good match, a second dog would be introduced, and so on until there was a good match. Her behavior would be evaluated. Problem 1. Only one dog was introduced and Star was pretty tense and anxious. It was determined by the staff that Star would be socialized with staff instead. Not sure what went on, but Star was a basket case when I got her home. Jumped in her bed and slept for three hours as stressed dogs will do. I was able to talk to the manager and got some further info about the facility's plan to help my dog. I took Star back the next day. When I picked her up, she was so anxious to leave I needed help getting her to the car so as not to be dragged. None of the staff hanging around the front desk knew anything about Star's Day, and there was no contact from the manager. Problem 2. My expectation was contact re how Star did the second day. A caring and interested manager would have contacted me. I was left with the idea that the manager never addressed Star with the staff. and a plan of action was never formed and/or discussed with them. I had been told that staff would be rotated thru Star's Day so no wonder none of them knew anything about her. If possible, Star was even more stressed when we got home. I called this morning and cancelled all of Star's s scheduled visits. A few minutes later I received a call from the facility to "confirm" I was cancelling all of the sessions. Here comes Problem 3. I answered yes, and when there was empty air, I added I was surprised no one wanted to know why AND I was hung up on! Classy place. Run, don't walk, away from it. Conni Bence read more

Terrible experience! Do NOT use Monte Vista for pet boarding. Their website is very misleading. I schedule to board my cat there for 1 week. I scheduled 3 feedings per day on their website at times that I specified. When I arrived to drop off my cat, they said the times I requested for feeding were not able to be accommodated. The latest feeding they can provide is between 4pm and 5pm. Also, I asked the receptionist if I would be able to view where my cat would be boarded and she said typically they don't let customers in the back pet boarding area and a manager would have to approve the viewing. Very strange and weird, made me very uncomfortable. I walked out and went elsewhere. read more

Took our 14 yo Shih Tzu for a grooming here for the first time last week. Staff was super friendly and professional. Facility was clean and well kept. My wife called in on may 2 Nd after the govenor said on may 1 that groomers could operate again. We walked in today to get our appt a month later and the lady had no spot booked. She was non apologetic and treated us as if we were lying idiots and even lied about the governors lift date on grooming and lied about them not booking dates before then. I took my 2 pomeranians in for a full grooming for which they were long over due and they came out looking like 2 brand new pomeranians! I couldn't have been more pleased with with the grooming department at Monte Vista Pet Lodge. My little girls were treated exceptionally well as was I. For Christmas we had to board our 5 year old German shepherd who can be really problematic with new people. He tends to bark and take time to warm up to new people. The staff here did such an amazing job with him and I'm so glad we brought him here. By day two they let us know he had acclimated to their schedule and was doing great. The report card even had pictures of him playing outside which I didn't think would be able to happen due to him being difficult to work with. MVPL is the best boarding, day care and grooming for your pet. Our little dog loves going there, socializing with other dogs and getting lots of play times in. She started going in February of this year to just day care as we wanted her to know the staff and be familiar with the kennel routine. When we were able to travel, she had no separation issues. We've been using Monte Vista Pet Lodge since they opened. I loved the fact that they require a visit with the pets & their parents before the pets stay the first time. When we visited, Rebecca, the manager, immediately made us feel comfortable & took us on a tour of the facility. We've kenneled our dogs here approximately 6 times in the last year with stays ranging from 1 day in doggie day care to 13 days while we were in Alaska. While in AK, our female Pomeranian, Bella, got sick & once it became clear she needed to see the vet, Rebecca called us. She took Bella to our vet first thing in the morning & they gave her the prescribed medication until we got home. We also received a few phone calls letting us know how Bella was doing (in addition to the several we made to them to check on her!). When we returned, there was no extra charge for taking such good care of her except for the amount our vet charged Monte Vista when they took Bella in. That is excellent service & above & beyond what we expected. I figured there'd be a fee added on for having to transport Bella to the vet. We're allowed to bring our own food for the dogs (our old kennel charged extra if we brought our own food), their beds they love to sleep in and a couple of toys for each of them. That makes us feel better because we know our dogs have that piece of home with them. We've also used the grooming services at Monte Vista. The groomer, Adele, does a great job! Our dogs like her & she takes good care of them. The prices are reasonable & Adele is very flexible. If you want to know that your pet is being treated just like you'd treat them, you should pay Monte Vista Pet Lodge a visit! read more

I have only boarded my pup here once, for four days, but I had a good first experience. The staff seemed enthusiastic and the facility seemed clean. The feedback they provided, over the phone and on pickup, was more detailed than we were expecting. I really appreciate that they rotate the dogs outside frequently; that's why I chose this facility over others. My dog is used to going outside 5-6 times a day, and I didn't feel comfortable asking a friend to come over that often, for so long. I was expecting my dog to have some accidents after coming home, but he didn't have an 'adjustment period' at all. It seems like he had fun and stayed healthy, and I couldn't ask for more. We'll be back if we ever need to board again. read more

We have trusted the good people with our sweet Augusta several times. She is a mellow 6 year old cattle dog who is aloof with other dogs, but bossy if they are too energetic around her. She just likes her space and isn't afraid to say so. The staff at Monte Vista get her and don't try to socialize her with high energy groups. They give her love, take her to play, and give her the treats and food we provide, and all is well. Gus has never showed any signs of injury or distress coming from this facility. The price is comparable and has by far less volume and crowding than other local choices for boarding. We will continue to make Monte Vista our first choice in ABQ. read more

Being a pet trainer I am especially critical of boarding and daycare facilities. I did a lot of research before deciding to bring my dane mix, Oliver, to this particular facility. I was very impressed by the way that they handled his introductory visit, and the dialog they have with all new clients about how they handle their service. Their prices for daycare and boarding are great, especially when you buy a package (5 daycare visits for the price of 3). On our first visit to Monte Vista we were impressed and booked our babies stay months in advance. We had our meet and greet scheduled this morning at 10am, that is what was on my appointment card and what we were told back in March when we made the reservation. This past week my husband has called daily to confirm this meet and greet, there was no answer 5 days in a row 3 times a day. This morning we went to our meet and greet. We were told our appointment was for tomorrow, well I thought I had it wrong. We got home gave the appointment card a double check and it was Saturday June the 22nd at 10am. We have been keeping this morning free for months. I called this young man back at the front desk who is very difficult to understand and rude. Told him the situation, He just gave me excuses and hung up on me. He actually hung up on me. I wasn't yelling, cursing, nothing. If he treats me like this, how will he treat my babies????? I took my pup here for grooming and i was so happy with the results. I was a little worried how she would look because of past experiences at other groomers. My dog is maltese yorkie mix and has a lot of hair. She looked so nicely cut better than i could have expected. Best boarding facility in town! We have boarded our rambunctious boxer there about 4 times now. We have been impressed from the very first time we stopped in for a meet and greet/facility tour. Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic they showed us around the very clean kennels and outdoor play area. They also explained their one price covers everything. They don't charge extra for play time or bringing your own food. Since our first visit, we have continued to be delighted with the service, professionalism and fair price. My dog died as a result of their inability to follow my directions for feeding. My sweet baby girl was diabetic, I gave instructions on feeding her but they did not give her the food she needed. They gave her too much insulin and she went into a coma and started seizing. Rebecca was so rude when I called the day after she had to be laid to rest. NEVER offered any sympathy. A+ pet boarding facility. I recently used Monte Vista Pet Lodge for about a week for my needy dog that has bad separation anxiety, and the staff was awesome with her. She needed special treatment, and everyone was very nice and helpful with her issues, and made her stay there as enjoyable as possible. They even allowed me to bring in my dog several times before boarding so she could get accustomed to being there. Very, very friendly and helpful staff that knows how to treat their guests. They have a very clean and versatile facility, with deluxe kennels, big outdoor play area and a swimming pool, among other things. Monte Vista is the best. Took my pit bull there for about a week. The staff is awesome. They all welcomed Lucky with open arms and I could tell he was going to feel at home while I was gone. Their facility seems spotless, inside and out. It doesn't even smell like there are animals there. Their outdoor play area is also perfect, especially if you have a dog who is a "jumper". I believe the walls are 10ft high, so rest assured your dog will not escape. Clean turf, water, and a pool for the dogs to run around. Good prices, I really can't see how it could be any better. I have been taking my dog Roger to Monte Vista Pet Lodge for a while now for day care and grooming. The groomer does a great job and the entire staff is friendly, caring and professional. The thing that impressed us the most was the manager Rebecca did the meet and greet in person, took us on a tour explaining everything. Also we like that you can bring your own dog food when boarding. If you are looking for a place to take your dog/cat and NOT worry about them, I highly recommend Monte Vista. MISINFORMATION and DISORGANIZATION. We have boarded our australian cattle mix dog here three times. The first time I came here (over a year ago), I was impressed with how clean the facilities are and the friendliness of their staff. Their prices seem reasonable compared to other boarding facilities and they don't charge for initial evaluation. For my doggie's second boarding experience, when we called to reserved we were told to get the flu and bordatella vaccine. We proceeded to do that but when we brought her in, not once did the lady who check her in asked for records of the new vaccines. We both thought it was strange. We had her boarded again recently (our third and LAST time!). My fiance called to see if we could administer our dog bordatella and DHHP/DA2PP vaccine ourselves and buy the vaccines from Tractor supply store since it's cheaper then getting them through the vet. Whoever he spoke to said it was ok. I thought it was strange since other boarding places do not allow that but we proceeded to administer the vaccines ourselves. On the day we dropped her off, the lady was about to take her in and did NOT ask about the vaccines she was supposed to get. Unfortunately I blurted out that we administer the bordatella and DHHP/DA2PP vaccine ourselves and she adamantly said that was against their policy and they couldn't take her in. We had to FLY out THAT morning....imagine the stress!! She also asked for her rabies vaccine!! I'm like why?!! Don't you guys keep records of all the dogs you have boarded. I showed her documentation that my dog wasn't due until next year. Finally the lady said we could get her vaccinated at the next door vet place (Zia Pet Hospital). So of course we had to shell out $50 for 2 vaccines along with $75 drop off fee since we had to leave her at the vet as we had to make our flight. Even though it seemed like they took good care of her and really like my doggie, suffice it to say I won't be coming here again. It's bad enough this boarding place is now out of the way from our house to the airport (we moved from Rio Rancho to ABQ), but the fact they gave us the wrong information, cause undue stress and forced us to shell out money to over vaccinate our dog is inexcusable. If they are disorganized when it comes to documenting and maintaining dog vaccine records and providing bad information over the phone, who's to say what else they are disorganized or inaccurate about. read more

We have been happily using Monte Vista since they opened. Dexter, our now 1 yr old Great Dane puppy, receives the finest care at their facility. We have some particular feeding requests when boarding and the staff has gone out of their way to accommodate us, and being a rescue, Dexter has some integration issues which they work to overcome giving him the social skills he needs which makes his daily daycare experiences value added. Their staff and training is second to none and their on-staff veterinarian experience a plus not to mention having an emergency Animal clinic located right next door. We have boarded him several times and each time he comes home a happy dog. I know first-hand they incorporate many practices to ensure the safety and well-being of our precious pet. These include sterilizing each suite before introducing another pet and what appears to be weekly staff meetings that cover things like customer service and animal training. Overall I would rate our experience with MVPL as excellent. I think Dexter would say the same as he is always excited to go visit. read more

My dog has been here so many times at this point that the staff all know him as soon as he trots into the building. He's always greeted with familiar and happy faces. Everything is included in the price here which means play time and treats are part of your fees unlike other boarding places in town. The fees are clear and they are upfront about price increases when those happen. They have daycare and boarding and my dog has been to both lots of times. If boarding, you get a helpful review of your dog's stay including things like how well they adjusted. Frequently we are told our dog is a flirty dog or so we are told. Once our dog had an attitude problem and they called us up to inquire about it. They definitely take good care of the dogs there and make sure to treat them well. In fact, before you can use their services, you have to go through an interview with your dog to make sure everything is a good fit. You can bring your own food here as well as medicines. They also can do some grooming. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but they made way too many errors. 1) they lied to my face about the difference in sizes of the kennels. They kept on saying "all kennels in that room were the same size" until I pointed out the fact that I can literally count the # of bricks in the wall to see that one kennel was significantly bigger than the one next to it. 2) they called us 1 week after we already paid a deposit for 3 dogs to tell us that they were overbooked for the kennel we originally agreed upon and tried to upsell us a suite since that was now the only option left. I said no they must honor our original price that we already paid a deposit for. They agreed to that on the phone. 3) day before our trip, they called us saying that one of our dogs still needed all it's vaccines which is not true and we had to call the vet to resend the records that pet lodge misplaced. 4) when we picked up our dogs, they tried to charge us the suite price instead of the original price so we had to sort through that which took a long time. This place is extremely disorganized and doesn't seem to understand that a deposit is a 2 way street. Deposits prevent opportunity cost for the business AND secured a spot for the customer with specific parameters such as price. P.s. they are very careful to mention multiple times during meet and greet that deposits are non-refundable and may only be used as future credit if you decide to cancel stay read more
