I took my 2 Maltese there today for grooming. They have no clue what they are doing and have attitude when you question anything. The "groomer" literally shaved them to the skin. UNACCEPTABLE and nothing close to what they told us. If you love your pet, don't take them there. They need to be shut down. read more

This store is great. I'm writing a review for a particular item. I wa.ted to put my indoor cat out safely. I purchased the Whisker City expandable cat backpack to use as a portable catio. I place it on a table on my deck and can watch my 15 year old rescue tortie while I work around the house. She loved the carrier from the first time she saw it. She jumped right in. It has a large ventilated see thru bubble front and expands with mesh to about 4+ feet. I'd recommend it to anyone needing it for a balcony an area where kitty can see and be out. I brought a receipt for a 3 yr rabies shot and the tag yet they would not accept it. I will never go there again.

Call for grooming of 15 pound dog. I'm dog sitting. So I called name on tag and found he had not had rabies. I had never heard of this requirement. so I went to the vet for a rabies shot sat morning. So now it's 48 hours and the appointment was monday at 1:30. They were not doing anything when I arrived. Immediately I had to have proof of the shot. In trying to get out of the car, I had left it. So back to the car to get the proof. Get back in there and she asked to look him over. I said fine. I talked about his hot spots and all Then she informs me he has dead and the can't cut his hair. My 85 yr old mother who wanted a Betta Fish, you know the ones so called fighting fish, So she could enjoy their beauty & Admire their personalities in her small Apt was disrespected beyond my comprehension by the young girl at the register to CK us out. We spent an hour in that store. Picking out the correct and small / semi small beta fish tank made specifically for those types of fish with the pictures of the betta fish on the box. She picked out one of the tanks that had a divider since you cannot put those two types of fish together and she picked out two beautiful betta fish for their new home along with lots of accessories gravel, fish food, Plants etc. when we got to the register the young girl refused to sell me the betta fish telling me that the tank that I had chosen was too small and it would not be a good quality of life for those fish. I said excuse me are you serious? She replied again that she was not going to ring me up because the tank that I had chosen which was specifically made for the beta fish which I believe was a 2 gallon tank would not give those fish a quality of life that they needed a bigger tank. She then stated we have a 5 gallon tank that's half off you can purchase I'll ring that up for you! I again said I do not want a larger tank since these are smaller fish and I want the tank that I am trying to purchase that was sitting at the register for the betta fish. I then proceeded to tell her that I once owned a tropical fish store and raised betta fish and I know all about their quality of life. The lines had started backing up in the store as she was the only one at the register. I again ask her to ring me up and she refused saying that I needed a bigger tank because of their quality of life would be limited in that small Betta fish tank that I picked up in their store specifically for that type of fish. There was a divider in that tank to separate the two males where they would not invade each other's space which is what it's made for. I explained this to her and she still insisted that she was refusing to ring me up or sell me those items or the fish. Unless I bought a bigger tank. I then told her just keep the fish and let them sit in those tiny little cups that you have them in with just about five tablespoons of water and I will take my business elsewhere which I did going down the street to another pet store and purchased the same items and was treated with respect and was sold the exact same thing that I would have bought in their store. My main complaint was the way that my 85-year-old mother was treated. This cashier had no clue about any quality of life especially for a betta fish. My Mother's new betta fish are thriving in the exact same tank that we purchased from the other pet store down the street. Do better PetSmart! Educate your employees before you hire them!!! Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. And this is one of the few stores in town that carries my pet's prescriptions. With Banfield inside the store, getting prescriptions refilled requires the extra step of having the Banfield vet issue a "prescription card" for the prescriptions my vet has written. It creates extra steps for patrons, and is very inconvenient when Banfield's desk is not open, since their hours are different than store hours. It is significantly easier to order online from Chewy when it comes to my pet's prescription; if they need extra validation about the prescription from the vet, they called the vet themselves, and all I have to do is upload the documents and have the order shipped to me. I have used PetSmart for years, but I am increasingly unhappy with the extra steps around prescription refills. read more

I was so relieved that Hurricane Helene did not wipe out my go to pet store. I have 2 cats and they are picky so find myself going to this store a lot !!! My favorite person at the cash register is Tracy as she has such a nice way about her, and she has a good rapport with the animals and their owners when it comes time to checkout. It was good seeing Tracy today at the store as I had not seen her since the storm and so was missing that neighborly feeling she gives to the store. read more

I absolutely love this PetSmart store! Most of the staff, including cashiers, are especially pleasant and helpful. The store is always clean, and generally well stocked. Lately they have been out of stock on a lot of my favorite items, but I'm thinking it's due to the change in shopper volume/predictability after all of the Pandemic disruptions. They may have gone through some management changes, too. They've been so great in the past that I've got my fingers crossed for things to shake out okay. Employees are looking pretty stressed right now, but are still going the extra mile to be helpful (except for that one older woman, who is snotty, seems imposed upon, and has a hard time finding online orders). PetSmart is usually my last option for buying pet items. They are generally overpriced, the animals they house are kind of sad, and the pet salon is a 1/5 star. I brought my dog there for a simple clean and nail trim. They had her for three hours and when they finished they told me she was too nervous to do anything. Then why have her 3 hours for no reason? She's also a calm 15 lb dog. But anyway, I highly recommend online ordering for pet needs or your local rummage that donates back to shelters. read more

Is there a lower grade than one star. I just had the worse experience with this PetSmart and will never shop there again, or for that matter, at any PetSmart. Im not gong to get into the whole thing as this stupid program autocorrects and misspelled my dog breed, .....so why bother. I did pay $111.00 to pick up a partially dried 105 lb. thick furred dog that now has a wet dog smell. I received bogus excuses as to why they stopped grooming her, of course it was 10 minutes until the grooming dept. was closing. No heads up, no phone call, nothing. She had to many ticks on her according to the groomer, and might have ring worms. Corporate policy dictates not to move forward. Will take her to her regular groomer next week. Only reason I was here was because she had gotten really messy falling into a dirty pond earlier this week and didn't want her to have to wait to get her cleaned up. It's a standard pet smart. Nothing special nothing terrible. The service is always pleasant and quick. I've never used the grooming services at this location so I can't share much there. They hold adoption events from local shelters which I like and I frequently window shop for a fur baby I shouldn't take on. There have been some close call tempting adoption moments. But I've contained myself so far. Other than adoption events I do sometimes buy their pet food and they have a decent variety and plenty of pet toy options. I even contemplate getting their oh so cute pet sweaters but I know my cat would hate me. read more

I am obsessed with my fur baby and would never do anything to put him in harm's way, but ANY medical a dog has they make you do express bath (sounds ok, but they charge $18 add on and different inconvenient times smh sounds like they want the extra $....they also don't have that as a bath option on online to choose which is where a lot of the trouble originated from) I would have even signed a waiver for him b/c what he has will never be seen by a groomer they would never even detect it & know he was having an episode. I gook my dog Sophie in to be groomed yesterday. I wanted her bathed and cut. She is a rescue and is very gentle with me and my family even my three year old grandson who wrestles with her. The girl who worked on her said she needed four hours so I said OK, after almost four hours I called an d a man answered the phone, he said she was just about to call me. She told him she was unable to finish Sophie because she and my dog was too stressed! Now I am not an expert but I do believe the groomers are more than equipped to handle stressed dogs. She claimed Sophie bit her twice and she decided not to finish the job. Sophie's face wasn't touched (hair still i her eyes) her cut was patchy. All in all I was very upset. I will never take another dog to them. It cost me $56.00 for what little she had done. She would not even come out to face me. I will not recommend them to anyone. Our 2 yr. old Goldendoodle received a bath, cut & nails yesterday. I was pretty specific about, no flat head 3/8" length overall. When I picked Hazel up 2 hrs after the usual 4 hr. limit, she looked awful. Her nose had a stripe shaved slightly off center, one eye exposed more than the other. Instead of taking time to brush under the ears like they said they would, she was shaved to the skin. Hair on head is flat and unevenly cut. And very strange are the feet as they said she was so uncooperative that they could not clip foot hair leaving long shoots of hair projecting from her toes, very weird looking. All this for a total of $107. I called twice to let them know how disappointed I was. They said they would take 15% off next time, like there would be a next time, forget it! Day after, our dog seems traumatized, nervous and keeps trying to get to her hind end, also shaved to the skin. Although a previous groomer said she behaved pretty good, yesterday's bad cut was blamed on my dog! Somebody was rushing and Hazel took the brunt of it. I will have to clean up the mess! Worst service manner ever Long story short. The staff was rude and unprofessional. Here's the gist: My dog had a rabies vaccine in Feb. 2018, good for three years, listed on her medical record. They wouldn't accept that because the "expiration date" was not literally written in the record. And they were rude about it. So even if it were a one-year expiration, she'd still be good. They wouldn't even listen to the logic of this. Wouldn't take a phone call from my vet. Had to call themselves "in case you are making this up and it's just a friend of yours on the phone." Rarely have I been so insulted and treated so poorly. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. And my vet was horrified by their manner on the phone. It was embarrassing. After one of the staff argued with me loudly, a leader came over and finally called my vet and took the verbal ok. When I picked up my dog, they were syrupy sweet, really overdoing it, I guess hoping I wouldn't tell management. The grooming was not great -- instead of her usual collie cut, they just chopped her hair off evenly. I wouldn't have left her there except I had a rare day off and had no choice. We've been using Petsmart for 5 years despite the reviews, but it finally happened to us too. My friend asked if her small dog could have a simple sanitary trim of hair around her butt, a quick affair, & since they had only 1 dog on a table. The tall tatted blond in the salon said 'gotta have a appointment' & turned her back on her as she was speaking to her. Just walked away from her! We brought this to the attention of Pauline, the manager on duty, & she was apologetic, said she'd give a note to Rose to see if "she could squeeze me in" the next day. Said I'd be called if the booking was possible or not. Rose has a great reputation but I'd not had the good fortune to book her. So next day no call by 3pm so she called figuring someone had dropped the ball... gets a young guy on the phone who says 'Rose is all booked up' & she ask "til when?" He just repeats himself... she said "What? For eternity? When can I book her?" After putting her on hold 3 times he finally says "they don't want to groom your dog, they feel uncomfortable.' She was dumbstruck. "What do you mean? My dog's never bitten or menaced anyone!" She told him this isn't how you treat customers to which he replied "We can turn away anyone we want." She informed him that we'd make this viral. He blithely said "Ok!" So, let's make this go viral. We & our pets don't deserve to be treated like this. I've been loyal here for years because they carry the catfood I buy. The selection is good, and when there are sales, the prices are comparable to other stores. BUT the customer service is bad! Is Petsmart hurting for employees? Why is management a dismissive, too busy to be bothered while I stand around here, 22 year old ?? Are there any adults in the store? I had a simple request, and I was told that by doing that it would take waaaay too long (he said as he and another employee were standing around) and it would "promote favoritism" amongst guests. REALLY!? When did decent customer service become favoritism?? I think the word he's looking for is laziness. I've been in a Petsmart and waited 15 minutes while the employee netted specific fish in the goldfish tank... Most employees don't give me any trouble. My request takes 3 minutes at most. He just didn't want to deal with my request, plain and simple. And this was management. I asked him what we could do to make it easier for them and still get me what I need, he was simply dumbfounded, and the favoritism thing came up again. I'm at a loss and shopping online as we speak. I normally go to Petco because it is closer and a little cheaper, but I don't think I'll go back unless Petsmart it booked! I was going to make an appointment online for a Saturday 7 AM appointment, but because my dog is a little hard to handle I wanted to call and personally speak to someone first. In doing this I thought the groomers would be mad at me for booking the first appointment, but they were glad to help me and assured me that they would take great care of Baxter! At times his hair becomes very tangled and matted so there is nothing else I can do but cut that little piece off. The groomers at Petsmart, specifically Rose, did a wonderful job making his coat thinner, even, and calling me during his appointment to clarify how I wanted Him to look. Yes Petco is cheaper, but there's no way to book online or request a certain groomer. I'll gladly drive the extra miles and pay a few more dollars to request a person that I trust! Sorry to say this but this is the worst Petsmart location anywhere. I drove twenty minutes from Candler to buy some Hills Diet food. I brought the same prescription card that I have used here ten times before except today that say "the actual product doesn't match what is on the card" and they won't sell it to me. The assistant store manager doesn't care and the checkout team is more like a police force than people interested in providing pleasant customer service. Last time that I was in the store, I was told that my little Corgi that I was carrying in my arms -since here back legs are paralyzed, needed to be on a leash but the checkout tean ( aka PetSmart police force). Let me understand this rule -- I'm carrying a 17 year old Corgi and it must be on a leash to come in the store. Why?? Go to the Arden location where they are friendly. Go anywhere else than this spot. If PetSmart corporate is reviewing this review then really need to clean house at this location. It's a mess. read more

Horrible experience. Apparently they stop selling fish 30 minutes before they close even though it isn't posted anywhere for the customers to see. We arrived in plenty of time but stood waiting for assistance for 13 minutes and at 6:33 we were told they refused to sell to us because they closed at 7:00 and stopped selling fish at 6:30. They told me I couldn't make an appointment for what I needed that it was a walk in and to walk in at 4:30 I walk in at 4:30 there like you need an appointment and we can't take you now. I waited all day to come in when it was convenient to them only to be turned away. So I ask to speak to a manager who says as far as I know the only thing you don't need an appointment for is to get their nails trimmed. I specifically asked for an appointment and was told I didn't need one. What a disappointing experience for a Pet Smart. We've been to many, many Pet Smarts from the midwest to the east coast. This was by far the most disappointing. Unlike most other locations, no one here acknowledged us/greeted us; there was only one cashier with a line of 8 people lined up. Both men's and women's bathrooms had graffiti written on the walls, including some nasty stuff. We've never seen any Pet Smart like this. Needless to say, we won't see this one again. I have taken my dogs to many pet smarts. For whatever reason we are striking out in Asheville. One of my dogs is difficult to do her nails. I know this. I warn them. Other locations haven't had issues. They did do better than the south Asheville. But when I pay for a service I expect it to be done. Today they said they didn't do my dogs front left paw. Insert my disappointment. I was going to give a 2 star rating. However when we got to the car I realized they didn't get all the nails on the front right. If they would of told me I would of been sad and not returned but not telling me about the right paw was full out deception. Also the store was dirty. Dog urine and trash on the floors. It makes me sad a dog owner didn't clean up after their dog however the store should make sure it's floor is clean. Time to try urban dog retreat apparently. read more

OMG!! DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE!!! I took my sweet natured senior cocker spaniel to this place a month and a half ago for a full "SPANIEL" clip and shampoo. We recently moved here from GA where we had him groomed once a month since he was 2 months old. He came out looking like SNOOPY!! They had shaved his body and legs to the skin and left the top of his head and face alone so he now has gills too, and they charged me 55.00! The staff ignores you if you are upset and pretends to be too busy to deal! My dog is partially blind and totally deaf but is very use to grooming. This is the first time he came away upset from grooming and still smelled like an old dog. My only hope is that his memory is going so that he won't remember this place. I think its part of the cashiers job to fill in with the grooming there. That can be the only reason for such a horrible experience! read more

Terrible for the money. Most professional groomers include basics such as nail trim, ear trimming, teeth cleaning, and anal gland expression. Petsmart charges extra for each of these. I let my husband take our dog for her haircut and without my knowledge chose poorly. Never again. Not worth your money. Been shopping here since we moved to Asheville in 2013. Today, Rainy, in the grooming salon decided to muzzle my 8 year old Rhodesian. I'm still shocked and completely unhappy with this experience. They kept telling me it was his 1st time there! He's been a client there since 2013 and a Petsmart grooming client since 2008 as a puppy. I'm disgusted and on an official Petsmart boycot. read more

They are consistent and reliable and do an EXCELLENT job with my 2 terriers. Just awful service! They deleted my dogs record after I called the day before and confirmed they had all his info and he was scheduled to be groomed. I had a court ordered appointment to attend as a support person and I had to make sure there wasn't any issues when I dropped my dog off. Once I showed up I knew this wasn't going to end well. They said whomever I talked to must have accidentally deleted his information and they could not groom him without his rabies paperwork, even though he had been going there for a year and he had his tags on. So I run out to the car and finally find all of his rabies paperwork. The girl knew I was frustrated and had an important appointment to attend and I could not take my dog with me. She made me wait in line and commenced to entering everything again very slowly. Then she changed his breed from Cairn Terrier to another breed and charged me more for the same service he has been getting for a year! I will not return! read more

Brought my pug in for a bath, brush and nail grinding. As I was paying, I noticed she was shedding like a fur snowstorm and she did not smell clean. I returned to the salon, showed the groomers and they tried to tell me she was shedding and did not smell clean because she was nervous and recommended I pay for a furminator treatment. For a pug. Called the next day to discuss my experience with the grooming salon manager who said I should bring her back that day so they could evaluate whether or not she was groomed satisfactorily. Huh?? Told her I would settle for a refund and she said that if they were to do that, that they would note our account as not "being a good fit for their salon" in other words, we would be 86'ed from the petsmart grooming salon! I can hardly imagine any worse punishment than this in my life. Thank you petsmart for treating me like a liar and taking absolutely no responsibility for doing such a crappy job on my dog.
