Stopped in right before closing (around 6:59 PM on a Sunday) to quickly ask about a fish tank divider. I understand closing procedures need to happen on time, but the interaction felt rushed and dismissive, and I wasn't given a chance to ask a simple question before being turned away as the doors were being shut. I work in retail as well, so I understand closing routines, but customer interactions should still be handled with basic courtesy, even at the end of the night. A brief answer or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. I'll plan to come earlier in the future, but this experience did not reflect great customer service. read more

I came in today to purchase crickets and a heating mat for my new tarantula. The workers who helped me, Eric and Jordie, were beyond helpful and very friendly. Eric helped me collect crickets and was readily knowledgeable about how many I should get at once and how to take care of them. Jordie directed me to the heating mats and helped me decide which one was worth it for the price, but also would fit best under the terrarium. Overall I am grateful for the good service I recieved today, and every time I stop by Bloomington PetSmart. read more

Went to look at the adoptable cats but instead decided on buying a betta. Already have one at home who has been thriving for 6 months. The cashier was trying to "educate" me telling me my tank was too small, the tank needs to cycle, blah blah blah. Mind you there's other betta on the shelf dead and dying. Petsmart should work on the deplorable conditions they keep their Bettas in before trying to educate customers. Also someone asked the same cashier if they had adoptable cats and he told the customer I don't know. For reference there were like 5 adoptable cats available why would a worker not be aware of that. Joey did a great job with my senior dog today ! Honestly the best groom I've had for the price I paid. We will be going back. His hair was super soft when I picked him up and it's remained that way through the day. Not sure what he used to do the trim, but it's the cleanest trim I've ever seen. I just wanted to make a complaint. This is pertaining to certain managers and things I've heard around the store while shopping. This store is ran by a dumb women who has no idea what is going on. Her name is Karen. She is incompetent and often yells at employees and just straight up gives them incorrect information or tries to get employees to sell dying or sick animals that I have seen with my own eyes. Along with another manager named Jordy has tried getting me to buy dying animals and has no clue what she is doing. I have seen countless dying and sick animals in here that I have tried to purchase. I am just sick of this place having nothing but dying animals that are forcefully pushed on me and then when I point out it's dying they just back track and try to show yet another dying animal. If I don't hear back about this I will be contacting the BBB or some other entity to get authorities involved sincerely fuck this pet smart other then the 2-3 people that actually know what's going on and won't just sell me a fish with Ick. (Pssst by the way all the fish on their wall have ick so if you aren't planning on killing your whole aquarium definitely don't buy fish here.) read more

pretentious worker that came to get us fish out acted like she was god gift to fish sales. we had our kids each pick out the fish for their own tanks 30 gal each. which I have had raised multiple parrot and cichlids in years ago. nevertheless her attitude made us decide to not buy from them. she tried to tell us our tanks were not big enough and she "legally could not sell us fish for that small of a tank." even though they are housed in 2 gallons at the moment. that may work with others but I know better. read more

I was then lied to and was told I would be unable to make a purchase because the register was closed as I actively saw customers still shopping in the store. I used to shop here regularly. This was the best place to get all of my pet supplies. They may still be a good option for certain pets, but if you price compare, some items are literally twice as much as other local places. I checked the price on a few Milk Bone treats, and that was the case. This makes me assume lots of their items are marked way up. Menards has had some stocking issues, but if you shop there or Rural King you'll get a great selection for a fraction of the price. Wow. read more

My young child attempted to purchase a fish today, but was denied because his 125 gal fish tank wasn't big enough for a fish? So a child cannot purchase a fish now and stipulations have been put in place. This is not only laughable but Unbelievable. Weird power trip by employees, but whatever. I was also purchasing cat treats, and after checking out had to ask the cashier to put all of my purchases in a bag, at which time earned me an eye roll. I will never ever again return to this store. I'll be going out of my way to visit small mom and pop pet stores in the area. read more

My son is a very avid fish collector. We have been shopping at PetSmart for years. He is nine years old. The woman that sold him a new catfish today, as his Grandma was purchasing a tank for her house, was extremely rude to my son. She raised her voice at him, and told him he couldn't get a refund if the fish died, because they were also purchasing anew tank. We have many tanks at home, which is where the new fish was going. She said that things look fishy, and she almost didn't sell him the fish. I am very upset, due to him being upset. I will be contacting corporate over the I'll treatment. He is a child! OMG What a Difference!!!! April in July!!! You may have read about my terrible experience with Petco the other day trying to buy dog and cat food for our local shelter. Now let me tell you about my amazing experience and a woman named April at PetSmart here in town. I went into PetSmart today and basically gave the same story I had given at Petco the other day. I am here to buy food for the animal shelter. They are in need of canned food for cats and dogs due to the population of animals they are currently housing. I want to get the most food for them that I can as economically as possible. I was greeted by a young lady named April. Let me just say that April is my favorite month of the year and now April at PetSmart is one of my favorite people!!! Not only did she say she could help but walked me back into the dog and cat food section. She helped me find all the clearance cat and dog food they had and on top of helping me load two carts with all this food she said she would additionally discount everything another 75%!!!! Did you hear me, an additional 75% discount. This allowed me to buy almost $600 worth of dog and cat food for a little over $200. I also then picked up dog and cat treats and such to go along with everything. April took the time to walk me around the store to find all the best deals I could get, she helped me load the carts up, she even went up front and took 15 minutes to check me out at the register to make sure everything rang up correctly. What an AWESOME experience working with individuals who go over and above. April if you read this you are certainly a wonderful person and you just helped to make a bunch of animals at the local shelter a little more comfortable. I hope that PetSmart knows how lucky they are to have you on their team. I will never go to another place in Bloomington for my pets needs I can promise. I hope that April gets a special recognition for an exceptional job well done. You really made my day with a wonderful attitude and willingness to do what it takes to take care of the customer. Petco has a great deal to learn from April and the PetSmart team. Maybe Petco can send somebody over to observe April at PetSmart for a day or two. Oh Petsmart...we used to frequent this store but another pet store came to town and had saltwater fish and a GREAT rewards program. We opted to go with them for many years. Recently we moved back to this side of town and have stopped by Petsmart for convenience. I took my dog in to get his nails done and was told no one had time for him. Twice. Will not try to the grooming section again. The store however is fairly nice, employees are helpful, nice and always available. Prices are comparable to other stores, we no longer have saltwater tank so this location will likely get more of our business. read more

This is a review for the grooming department. I am beyond disappointed in their disorganization. I had an appointment scheduled for my dog to get a bath and haircut. I received a phone call this morning, a couple of hours before the scheduled appointment, stating that they were unable to give him a haircut, because they overbooked. This is ridiculous! They stated that they were able to give him a bath, but not a haircut. Right, so I can end up paying a lot more when I have to bring him back on Tuesday (the day they said was the earliest haircut appointment available). The online system that did the booking gave him a three hour spot (11:30-2:30). Last time he was done in 2.5 hours. The groomer even had an open spot at 12:00 that the system would have let me select. I asked to speak to a manager and was placed on hold for a long period of time. When he finally came to the phone he said he understood that I was disappointed, but that he couldn't make the workers do the grooming. So you can't make you employees work, but you can lose a customer. Sounds like a solid way to run a business! Do not trust them with your business, they won't honor it. I believe that if a business makes an appointment, they should keep it. I informed them that they lost my business and that I'd also tell everyone I know about the way they treat their customers, so this review won't come as a shock. There are plenty of other groomers in town (especially local small businesses) that will appreciate your business and probably do a better job of grooming your animal. I'll take my $100 (his usual grooming fee) and spend it elsewhere, and you should too! read more

How to start . We just picked up our female Great Pyrenees and at least 5 of her puppies. You ask why we don't know for sure well that's because she died sometime in the night Wednesday evening with puppies yet to be born. The gentleman that cremated her was able to tell at least that amount. Dr shake just kept saying through a vet tech oh she'll be fine just upset stomach it's normal don't worry and on and on for three days. Had no time to see her. So she dies the puppies also die inside her and all they can say is do you want us to cremate her. No Thank You! read more

The grooming salon is great- very professional. I have been taking my dogs there for grooming for 11 years and I have never been disappointed. When we pull into the Petsmart parking lot, my older dog starts crying with excitement and heads right into the grooming salon when we enter the store. My little Yorkie was scared the first time she was groomed, but had a wonderful experience and now doesn't mind going. Summer takes excellent care of her and treats her gently and lovingly. This store (specifically Summer and Joey) treats dogs the way you would hope that they be treated. read more

We use the grooming salon, and two of the groomers that we use, Bridget and Joannie, are terrific. We had a 14 year old shih tzu, Chewy, who got very cranky and bitey as she declined. There was one episode when Chewy tried to bite the groomer, and the groomer dropped the clippers, and they cut Chewy's abdomen. The groomer took her right to the vet, stayed with her till I got there, & cried as she told me what had happened. PetSmart paid all the vet bills, and after Chewy was cleared to be groomed again, put her with a more experienced groomer, Bridget, who was always so patient and kind with Chewy from then till Chewy's death. Chewy died in January & in June we got a 9 year old Chi from Midwest Chi Rescue, and the same week we got a 6 year old shorkie from the Bloomington shelter. The Chi is very fearful/aggressive. We don't know much of her history, but she does bite when afraid. We have learned how to hand her off at PetSmart (get paperwork done, hand the leash over the counter, and leave so that she doesn't feel she has to protect us) with Bridget and Joannie, who are both just great with both pups. The Shorkie is a love, loves everybody, dispenses kisses, etc. She resists having her nails tried, tho. Our experiences with PetSmart have always been good. We just budget plenty of time on grooming days so that we aren't left in a time crunch. We have always been treated with respect. We also tip well because we do so appreciate the work these ladies are doing for our pups. I just hope they continue working there for years to come! read more

I came in yesterday (7-29-2) with the intention of getting my dog a few things/ odds and ends if you will. My Fiancé and I are just engaged and have been talking about adding a small furry friend to our family! When I walked into PetSmart yesterday I was greeted by the most friendly and kind individual; named Kayla. She asked me if she could help me with anything and I expressed to her what we needed for our dog and if she suggested hamsters or a Guinea pig...and she showed me the Skinny Pigs! Of course we where sold! She was more than helpful helping me gather everything needed to make our new family member comfortable and happy. Giving her knowledge and wisdom with being able to admit if she did not know the answer to the million questions I was asking, but she sure went and figured it out! If I could give them negative stars that I cut out by hand the size of grains of rice I would...and it would likely take less time than it took them to give him a bath and trim his nails. Not only did they defy our request to not kennel him but allow us to keep him with us until they were ready...as they had overbooked and decided to run their salon like a mill...they lied and said they would take him straight away to a bath only for him to not re-appear for 2.5 hours while my wife stood their asking questions about where our dog was and when he would reappear. The entire process took more than 3hours and was only resolved after a call to corporate. Never again. My friends who work at the vet have since recommended Lindsey at The Road Dog who does remote service and NEVER kennels dogs. read more

Store Manager Nick and fish expert Kay gave us really excellent customer service today. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They have very healthy fish and an excellent selection of fish at this store. The 14 day warranty against the loss of fish is the most reasonable warranty I have ever heard of from a pet store. We travel 40 minutes each way to buy our fish from here and it's worth it. The store has a really good selection of food and supplies for all animals including birds, small animals, reptiles, and other exotics. I also think it's really cool that they adopt adult cats from their store instead of selling kittens. Southern Indiana has a real problem with cat overpopulation. They have training, grooming and class options for your dog. They sell fish, reptiles and other small animals. The staff are friendly and always offer help out to the car. I just adopted my first dog and Petsmart has been amazing! They have been really lenient with returns for collars and harnesses that didn't fit and even toys that were supposed to be "tough" material that my dog ripped through in a few minutes. Dorothea has helped us a few times and she is so patient and always helpful! She's really professional and friendly and I feel like we made a connection with her. A man brought in his guinea pig to them to be treated for an upper respiratory infection on a Thursday and came back on Friday to find out they sold his sick and injured baby to someone else!!! Not only did they NOT give that g. pig its care, but ripped it from its loving family's home into someone else's without that family's consent! Furthermore, the owners suspect that the managers are LYING to cover up the fact that the piggy DIED because they were too cheap to take it to a vet overnight, and so instead let their baby DIE!!!! Either way, whether they sold a family's pet to someone else ON PURPOSE without giving it care and waiting for it to be healthy before sending it off to a stranger, or covering up the fact that they let a pet die on their hands and LIED to make the family SOMEHOW feel better that they basically stole a family's pet...Don't come here... This could happen to your dog, your cat, your rodent, your fish, your reptile...Beware and boycott all PetSmarts UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED!!! read more

Weak version of a big-box pet store. The staff are very nice and it's easy to get their attention, but sometimes don't know much. Prices are a little high for this sort of place, about 25% more than the on-line alternative. Avoid any open boxes; they put returned, broken merchandise back on the shelves and give the usual line that a customer opened the box to inspect the contents. Probably an ok place to buy dog food, but things like aquarium equipment are better bought elsewhere. read more

This is a review for Petsmart dog grooming. I lived in Bloomington for 2 years while in grad school and tried multiple groomers before settling with Petsmart. I have a cocker spaniel who needs a haircut every 6-8 weeks. She is also a rescue who has a bad hip, which makes grooming uncomfortable for her. She used to seem traumatized when she left the groomer. By chance, we started seeing Sierra at Petsmart and I noticed that my dog never seemed upset or hurt when we left. She also looked beautiful. (The first time she went was the day before our engagement photo shoot)! It was a pleasure to work with Sierra and I highly recommend her. I also really like that you can make appointments online and receive confirmations and reminders via text message. Super convenient! We are moving to a much bigger city and I don't know that we will continue to use Petsmart for grooming, but in Bloomington, we found it to be a great option. read more

Stopped by and they had two, I was going to be in town for a couple hours and it's winter so I asked if I could pay for it and pick it up before they close on my way back home. They told me they could not do that and I would either have to take it immediately then or risk coming back later. Associate assured me they hadn't sold any recently and doubt they do. I came back two hours later to both dragons sold. So overpriced on their stuff anyway, will not be back. Going to buy local instead. read more

This review is for PetSmart Grooming. I took my Labrador Retriever and my Golden Doodle in for grooming and both left in worse condition than they were brought in. My Golden Doodle was groomed at PetSmart several months ago, and while not perfect, her haircut was acceptable and the staff member that cared for her seemed caring and kind. My Labrador Retriever needed a bath and nail trim. I paid for his service before seeing him, but it wasn't until I got him home that I realized how bad he smelled....there is no way he had a bath unless PetSmart was recycling bath water of every other stinky dog they bathed today....I received a call about the Golden Doodle about 30 minutes after I dropped her off. The groomer claimed that the dog was uncooperative and tried to bite her. My dog is easily frightened but is never aggressive. If the groomer had been patient with her she would have been fine. Still, I understand that sometimes things don't work out and wasn't angry or upset....until......I saw my dog! A single leg was shaved! The groomer wouldn't look me in the eye, didn't apologize or even comment. Now I need to find someone to try to salvage the appearance of my traumatized Golden Doodle and deodorize my stinky Labrador Retriever! Never again will they set foot in PetSmart. read more

I signed my German Shepherd up for puppy class. My dog barked a lot. The trainers (who claimed to be a German Shepherd expert) way of dealing with this was to have me constantly give my dog treats. Basically rewarding her for barking. After several weeks of this, the trainer suggested I put my dog on Xanax. We took our dog to our Vet. She told us we shouldn't have gone to PetSmart training and to go to Bloomingpaws. We took our puppy there and the behaviorist said we have a completely normal German Shepherd and Xanax was not required. We are currently enrolled in training there. PetSmart was a waste of $200. read more

Although the cages for the reptiles are very small, they seem that they are pretty well taken care of. Habitats are kept clean and the animals seldom look unhealthy. Lots of choices as far as cat food goes, and the prices are considerably affordable. Wish there were more fish options i.e. saltwater, but I understand the challenges that come with keeping saltwater life in store. Staff is always really friendly and very diverse, which is refreshing to see from a corporate-type business. read more

I have had my 13 year old, very hairy malamute mix groomed by Summer on several occasions. My dog comes home very happy & relaxed & prances around as if he's proud of his new hairdo! Took my dog my goldendoodle to Petsmart for grooming in Bloomington Indiana. When I called to book her no one told me that the store prices by the breed of the dog. When the groomer called to tell me my dog was done he mentioned well by the way we charge $28 additional because her hair was tangled. I was shocked to find out the total charge for a grooming was $105 and some change, Which did not include nails. When I went in to pick her up he showed me the amount of hair they shaved off, so I'm not sure why they charged the extra just to shave her they didn't detangle her, they just shaved her. This place is so unprofessional. I will not be bringing my dog back!! Would not recommend this place. read more

After 2 or more successful grooming at the store I picked up my two Yorkie yesterday, after another grooming and both had wounds to the abdomen area. I received a refund, but that was not the point. There is no excuse for multiple wounds, accidents happen but this was complete disregard for a dogs comfort and care. Their report care said they were wiggly............perhaps in discomfort. #HoboIsMissing My family member, Hobo, is missing. She has been sold to another unsuspecting customer because of the negligence, irresponsibility, lies and incorrect information given to me by the management of the Blomington Indiana PetSmart. This morning I had the chance to speak with David Harshey, the store's manager about the situation with my lost guinea pig, Hobo. My pet is MISSING. I can't say that David did or said anything that truly helped the situation. He told me that both his customer service manager Carie and manager April Stewart had cause to lie to me. David explained to me that Carie lied to me because she was trying to doing me a favor by breaking store policy and telling me that they would hold my returned pet and I would be able to claim her once she was healthy again. Had I known the truth of the situation and the policies set by PetSmart, I would have never allowed her to be returned to the store. David also said that Carie had attempted to contact me this past Thursday and left a voicemail message for me letting me know I could pick up my pet. I never received a call, nor did I receive a voicemail. When I asked that he check his facts and pull the detailed phone report so he could see that I was never called he told me that Carie had no reason to lie. This is the same Carie he said was trying to do me a favor by lying to me. I'm sorry. You can't tell me she was helping me in once sense by lying and then try and convince me that she has no reason to lie about a situation. Either you are, or you are not a liar. Once you lie everything you say is in question. There is no 'good' or 'helpful' lie. David and I also spoke about interactions with April Stewart (another manager in the Bloomington store) and her conduct during the situation when I was informed that the store had sold me pet to someone else. He told me that April had EVERY reason to lie because our situation had been escalated to the corporate level and she wouldn't want to get in trouble. I'm left asking myself what kind of people does this store employ? I'll add another layer of bizarreness to this story. Nearly 2 weeks ago now, on a Friday night I called the store to inquire about symptoms Hobo was having and the policy on sick pets that were sold. When I called I asked to speak with a manager, the man who answered the phone, Kyle, assured me that he was a manager and that there would be no issue with the same guinea pig being returned to me. The next day Chris and I went in the store to purchase pet supplies. While we were in the store we stopped to look at the piggies in the display and noticed one of them seemed to be hurt. I stopped a man wearing a nametag that said Kyle and I asked if he worked there. This was also the same man I saw standing behind the #3 register as we walked into the store. He said that he did work there and asked how he could help me. I pointed out the issue and he assured me that someone would take a look at her. When I went back into the store this past Saturday to check on Hobo and what the vet said about her, I noticed Kyle standing back in the grooming area of the store... back behind the glass doors. Now, here is where things really get bizarre. When speaking with David, the store manager, he informed me that they do not have a manager named Kyle. They don't even have an employee named Kyle in the store. At this point I was rather concerned because this person was answering the store phone and tending to the floor as a manager. I told him to check his store surveillance tapes and I gave a rather detailed description of the person, only to be told they don't have security cameras in the store. Bottom line, this store's employees have no issue lying to you about the health, care and policies regarding your pet's care, but they also allow random people to stand behind registers, answer phones and tend to customers. I will never spend another cent in this, or any other PetSmart, store location. I will also try and prevent any other person I know from using PetSmart. They have lied to me, condoned the lies that prevented me from knowing the facts about the care of my guinea pig and then they sold her to another family. They have also refused to contact the people who purchased her and explain their screw up. I have received absolutely no help from management on any level in regards to getting my family member back. read more

While many of the animals cost more than what you could get in the animal trade, the people that work there are very friendly and know what they're talking about. They helped me set up my 55 gallon aquarium and following their advise, I still have a tank full of healthy fish months later. read more

PetSmart as a whole is a terrible business and treats their animals horribly, not just this location I'm assuming. I've had a few hamsters before and I know enough to know that they are NOT supposed to have wire wheels, as it damages their feet thus discouraging them to run, making them overweight. Many of their animals also have unchecked underlying illnesses, most commonly cancer, yet they don't tell you about it and leave them untreated. The prettier fish aren't given proper tanks, but instead plastic cups. The cats don't have nearly enough room, even though the entire place is more than capable to provide more space, seeing that it a whole warehouse. They also don't know where their birds are imported from, or at least don't let it be known, their birds can be coming from all over and you wouldn't know where (Which is a big deal) Strongly recommend to NEVER support such an awful business, adopt from shelters and professional breeders. read more
