Purchased an 125gal aquarium November 2024. Prior to purchase, I asked the manager if replacement supplies were sold in the store. The manager replied "yes". It is now February 2025. I live 43 miles away. Went to store to buy replacement lights because I could not find that particular light online. Lady that worked at the store with glasses, brown hair, and blue shirt asked me about 8 questions to see if I was worthy of buying one of their 40 cent goldfish. Seriously. When I told her it was going to die she told me she wouldn't sell it to me. When I said it wasn't going to die but will live in about a 5 gallon tank she said she wouldn't sell it to me. When I said it wasn't going to die and live in a tank that was the size of all the tanks they owned combined, she finally asked me if I knew what "cycling" was to see if I was worthy of buying the fish. When I said no she wouldn't sell me the fish. When I told her I did know what it was after looking it up she asked me multiple other questions and then sold me the fish as long as I promised that I wouldn't harm it. I feel bad for going back on my promise but the fish will be food tomorrow. read more

Super unwelcoming. Maybe they had a long bad day. Hard to say. I walked in at about 5:30 pm to ask about their advertised Express Grooming - a quick bath. Wasn't expecting them to say they didn't have it - despite the giant signage outside the grooming facility and the same point of sale sign on the counter. One groomer walked outside to "see" when I said you've got an advertisement. the same person told me appointments only. Another said, "we close at 5:30". Just be honest. We don't want to bathe your dog now and apparently ever. I'm fully capable of paying for all the "fawncy" grooming. I'm equally capable of making an appointment. My dollars spend just fine. I take my pets to Banfield and have for over a decade. Since they were puppies. I do this because we are well treated. Silly me thought I could take my fur baby to be groomed next to Banfield. It would be convenient I thought. It only takes one time to make someone feel awesome or awful. Congrats! You did it the wrong way. We still need grooming occasionally and I'll drive out of my way to go somewhere else. read more

Watch out for Heather! She will pretend to be helpful but in reality is trying to investigate your knowledge for fish care and ruin your child's dream of a new fish. She refused to sell us a $3 guppy because according to her the water in my fish tank (at my home!) "didn't have enough bacteria." She wanted us to buy a $10 bacteria solution and return in a month for the fish. When I pointed out that the directions on the bottle she was recommending had contradicting instructions, she said they were wrong and didn't want to "send the fish to it's death." I was honestly thinking I was part of a prank at one point because of the absurdity of the whole situation. An ex-employee came up to me and told me that she's like that and suggested to go down the street to Pet Supplies Plus. We ended up going there and had a lovely experience. We even purchased 3 additional pets. From reading another recent review, she's still at it! This happened about 2 months ago. Wasn't going to leave a review but then saw it happen to someone else. A Story like this happened multiple times. We booked an appointment for an express grooming session with the callcenter. Including confirmation a couple days earlier. When I arrived they canceled the appointment because they tried to call but couldn't reach us. And that we cannot confirm an appointment with the call center it has to be directly with the store. Guess who is on the line when you try to reach the store? It's ridiculous that they cannot get their internal organization right. read more

We got our 2 dogs groomed here after months of waiting to get in. When they came out I thought they looked great except for my labradoodle's tail which was left long against her shaved body. After further inspection neither of their ears were cleaned or trimmed, Bobbi our Cavapoo's beard had something black in it that hadn't been washed or trimmed out, Suzie our labradoodle's whole belly was not trimmed at all, both of their bums weren't trimmed, and in between their paws weren't trimmed either. Normally I give the girls a basic trim, so I was excited to get them the full package. It was very disappointing to have so many things missed after spending almost $200. I did call and was told to bring them back in and they'd fix them up. But, I didn't have time to. I just asked to have them removed from their next appointment we had scheduled while there to pick them up. read more

I visited this PetSmart for the first time on Black Friday as I ran out of dry food for my cat. I noticed a sign by the wet cat food that said buy $25 wet food and get $5 off. I thought I would buy some and stock up because of the sale. An older lady rang me up at the register. After I paid, I looked at my receipt and noticed that I didn't get the $5 off and told the employee. She walked back to the cat food and saw the sale sign. She then had to get the manager as she didn't know how to correct their error. This all seemed to take a long time. I Should've known It first started when I checked in. I also check in my puppy Via the App for faster check in time When I got to this location they asked me to to fill out the paper work I had already did online. I asked why they said because the app check in did not work. Okay Cool. So i did the paperwork, handed my puppy to the groomer and they said " if we don't call back by 4:30-5:00 just come by. At 4:25 i didn't get a call yet so i went inside to see if he was ready. One of the groomers asked the groomer I booked if my puppy was ready... he then says " oh that Dog didn't come in" at the point I was in shock that this man said the dog i dropped off myself didn't come in. After all the staff went to the back to "Find my missing baby" they said "we didn't know he was here it will only take an hour' Like No I gave y'all four hours to groom my dog so i refused the service. I Don't think I'll be coming back to this location since they can't keep up with the dogs they have. read more

I took my dog to be groomed for the first time to this PetSmart and gave explicit instructions of how I wanted my dog groomed. I spent a good five minutes. I picked her up and she was completely shaved. I was so upset. The excuse given, "well she wouldn't stand still" and "it's better for the dog." This dog has been groomed 100's of times by PetSmart groomers. The groomers response., "well take her back to where you used to go". So basically the Groomer was telling me...too bad, so sad, that's how I groom. I won't be back to this PetSmart. I tipped her well anyway because it's hard work to be a groomer. read more

If i could give a 0 star i would. I would not recommend coming to this store for grooming. They are inexperienced and obviously never dealt with a pet that gets excited. They called me 5mins upon leaving to tell me that they could not service my dog because he had the wiggles. Of course i picked my dog up with so many concerning questions because they didn't even bathe him but placed him on the cutting table which is odd. I thought you were supposed to bathe the dog then trim and etc.. they also said that he has a record of having the wiggles but was never reported to me before. I let them know that he was nipped in the nose in January at a different location on my booking information. I feel very Inconvenienced and this could have been avoided by a phone call if they could not handle it. I legitimately drove 40mins to this location to leave with a dog that isn't groomed and the Lead Groomer did not show any compassion. Also, while waiting for my dog there was a dog being groomed and the groomer literally hit the dog and was cursing at him. According to the reviews I'm not the only who has experienced this. I have called corporate and should hear back from the district manager soon. read more

I have been in the fish keeping hobby for 10 years yet these workers are not willing to sell me fish that I would properly care for. The only reason I shop there is because of the limited pet store nears me. They have some of the worst conditions to keep animals in and have very rude employees. They tried their best to get me to not price match with PETCO. Over all will not go there ever again because it's just not worth it. Drive 30 minutes to this store. Gave my mini Goldendoodle a calming pill 30 minutes prior to appointment I get there and let them know he gets a little hyper and that I gave him the calming pill. I also informed them he had mats on his ears and to just cut them out. She informed me that if they couldn't get them out they couldn't bathe him, but cut him. Why? We'll they get tighter if wet. So what's the alternative? Nothing. Really? I've never had that told to me, ever from any PetSmart. I told them to go ahead and try or at least clip him. 2 hours after his scheduled 10:30 am appointment they called and said they have to cancel his appointment because he is too hyper. Really???? I told you that and I have never had a problem at other PetSmarts. I don't think this place had the temperament to handle this type of dog. I've never had this problem before. If I could give this place a zero I would. I had the worse experience at this location. Danielle who is a groomer shaved my dog half way and called me and said that she had fleas. Which was a lie my dog did not have fleas when I brought her to her appointment. I understand the policy but why shave a dog half way when you were suppose to check before doing any grooming. She was rude and had a disgusting attitude she did this to another dog as well when I arrived. read more

I had the worst grooming experience here. I had set up an account with them and given them proof of rabies vaccination months ago in preparation to be able to just drop my dog off, but when I got there they said they had to see another copy of the vaccination, even though I told them I had an account on file with that paperwork. About an hour later I got an email saying to come pick up my dog but when I got there she was still wet and actually smelled worse than when I had brought her in, as if she'd been sprayed with perfume. After I returned home with my dog I got a call from them saying she was ready for pick up. At that point I told the groomer about the issues with my dog when I had picked her up, and all she had to say was "sorry." I definitely could have done a better job just washing my dog myself for a third of the price at PetCo. I've also taken my dog for baths at PetCo for the same price and was much more impressed with the service. Never bringing my dog back to PetSmart for grooming services again. read more

She is awesome at handling my 3 lb chihuahua! Most people (including myself!) have trouble attempting a trim with the tiniest dogs, but now that I found Crystal, I'm not going anywhere else! Puppy Class with Karen was great! We have been in this store over the years, and recently the service has improved. We recently adopted a new puppy and decided to take the PetSmart Training course. If you are reading this, you know that puppy training is as least as much about the human as the canine. Karen worked well with both. She has a great understanding of dog behavior and did a good job with us as well. The class was small (only 2 puppies) and so attention was very individualized. With prior puppies, we have taken group classes with reputable local organizations. Karen's class was superior, and we are very pleased with how she has helped us train our dog. read more

I've only been here twice, but they both happened to be within a week... For the same thing. I bought my daughter a male Betta (we named him Pepper, lol) and he died about 2 or 3 days later. They offer a 14 day warranty (for a fish, lol), so I brought in zombie Pepper and exchanged him for Pepper 2. Pepper 2 died a few days later... I don't think I am doing anything wrong and it is simply a Betta. I have gone to this location multiple times to get supplies for my aquarium. In general for decorations they carry a lot of low quality items which are probably not the safest to put in the tank. The staff in the fish area are extremely unknowledgeable about tank maintenance as well as different kinds of fish. I was going to buy snails once, and a worker tried to sell me a dead snail insisting it was alive and pushing the bottom with her finger out of the water. She claimed that because it didn't smell bad it was probably alive and got annoyed when I asked for a different snail. In their tanks they have way too many different kinds of fish mixed together which are not compatible, and there are always dead ones floating in each tank. They are all extremely dirty and you can even see parasites on some of the fish. They are clearly stressed and sick. I would never buy a fish from this location for fear of it infecting my tank. Lastly the pricing per fish is on average around a dollar higher than petco which takes very nice care of their fish from what I have seen. read more

New to area and scheduled my dog for grooming two weeks ago. They called night before to cancel. Rescheduled for today. Brought my dog home and found that he wouldn't open one eye. Ugh, this Petsmart is so sad! It's sparse and old, and sorely in need of an update. The floors aren't tiled throughout, and there always seems to be doggie accidents. The stock is super-thin -- it feels short on selection with everything, except for dog food. The other Durham Petsmart is better by far. All the associates I've dealt with here have been super-friendly, but honestly, that's about the only thing this location has going for it. read more

As other reviewers have stated, there is something off putting about this location. It never seems really clean and could really use a remodel. The dog toys also seem to be really understocked at times. That said, the employees are pretty friendly and this location is super close to home. The store is really convenient and I bring the dog with me to pick up a new chew toy every couple of weeks (the clearance bins are a pretty good deal). I haven't used the grooming services at this location, so I can't comment on their services. I've been generally pleased with other PetSmart grooming locations in the past. read more

Typical big box store with pet items. The grooming services have been decent and the people seem to love animals, but the customer service is just plain terrible. I've "made appointments" only to be told they couldn't accommodate me because they got too busy. Recently they lost my dog's records (my name and phone number was in system with no animals linked to it). They were eventually able to find one dog but not the other. They had to cancel my service and had the nerve to say it was my fault - I should always keep my dog's vaccine records in the car. The convenient hours are not so convenient when you have to come back another time - I'll just stick to scheduling with the groomer next door to my vet. read more

Okay so I've went to this Petsmart for years and my experience there has always been so, so, but the past couple of times have been really good though and the staff is always super helpful and nice. However my visit last week was horrible and by far the worst one I've had. I have whites or dumpy tree frogs and I need to go to the pet store every week or so to get more crickets, well my usual local pet store didn't have any so we went here to get some. They didn't have any of the live crickets so they gave us this Bugco Bug Box that was supposed to have live crickets in it, as well as food and water which I thought was really cool and I also will say the design was really cute. So we thought okay cool well buy it and we did. So when we got home we decided to put them in the bug cage only to find dun dun dun! There we no crickets in the box which if I didn't have any extra frog food on hand would have really sucked because I was leaving for the beach that week and leaving my babies with a friend. Basically long story short, we were skamed 5 bucks out of some crickets and were pretty pissed. I don't know if this was a petsmart problem or a Bugco problem with the most recent shipment but either way its not okay and I really hope this problem gets fixed and serves as a warning to other amphibian and reptile owners. If this hadent happened I would have gave at least 3 stars, but alas this experience ruined it for me. read more

A few years ago, I had a bad experience with a groomer at PetSmart, but since the location is so convenient, I thought I would give them another try. Our appointment was at 7 a.m., and we got there at 6:50. Three dogs and three owners who all had 7 a.m. appointments were waiting in the cramped, smelly office until the receptionist/groomer(?) finally arrived, at 7:10. No greeting, no apologies for getting there late. She clearly was annoyed she had to be at work at this ungodly hour. She turned on the computers, tapping impatiently on the keys, complaining that it took so long to warm up. Obviously, I thought, that is why you should have arrived well ahead of the customers! After a few more minutes, she still didn't feel like looking up from the screen which still didn't display the schedule. I decided that I no longer felt confident to entrust my precious puppy to that business and told her to cancel my appointment. She just muttered, okay. She clearly couldn't care less whether I remained a customer or not. What a waste of time, but I am glad I walked out. I won't be back, PetSmart. read more

This business is extremely high priced for merchandise. Cedar shavings for pet bedding is $13 a bag. If you go to Tractor Supply the same bedding is $7 a bag. Dog food is over priced here as well. Tractor supply carrys the same brands for much less. It was worth the trip to Tractor Supply to get the items I needed. The dog igloo was outrageously priced, but guess who had it cheaper.....half the price...Tractor Supply. Unless you are just looking to give your money away and you have plenty to blow, then I do not recommend shopping here. read more
