I made an appointment one week ago yesterday 4/3/22 at this store to have them groom my dog in which I was told when I called to double check of the time it was supposed to be today (04/11/22) that there was no such appointment and nor is there anything scheduled for my dog in the future. I sad that's crazy I take the day off which costs me around $275-$300 and then the manager says unfortunately we cannot fit you in today without even asking the grooming staff is they can squeeze it in. No take another day off and it's on them next grooming. What happened to making the customer happy spontaneously and quickly to make them forget it happened and they are so pleased you rectified it and they don't loose time. This is the most valuable thing on this planet and I don't need to burn it with incompetent staff at PETSMART. They have convinced me it takes less time and money to do it myself and I won't be putting my dog around possible sick dogs. A few years back there was a puppy that died on their watch so. Have always been skeptical about leaving my dog there. Besides their prices are getting outrageous for the quality of work you get when they do actually write down your appointment when you call. I'm done with giving them my money. Maybe Amazon can groom my dog? I know Amazon will get any product I used to buy at PETSMART. Can I give them a half a star? read more

We took our 2 year-old Golden mix here to get groomed yesterday. My husband noticed a groomer yelling at a dog in the background and found it odd that she was comfortable doing that in front of customers. Since she wasn't the one grooming our dog, he still checked ours in to be groomed. What a mistake. He came home lethargic, and our assumption was he was tired as he was there for 5 hours and is excitable. By night time, we were concerned something was wrong as he was still not his active self, but figured we would see how he was in the morning. Today, he hasn't been able to go up or down stairs without the help of my husband. My husband had to carry him outside to pee this morning and our dog has hardly moved today other than in an attempt to follow us. You can tell that his hind quarters are in pain as his back legs are shaky and he is having trouble sitting and standing. I feel so awful for him. He has a vet appointment tomorrow, and my hope is that whatever injury this is, is something that will heal on its own. I spoke to the groomer, who said that our dog was tough to manage, but denied any injuries. I spoke to Petsmart manager and was "assured" that there was no mistreatment of our dog, but our dog has had no activity or unusual movement since being at the groomer. I also doubt the manager watches while every dog is groomed. While I'm sure they will continue to deny any fault, there's no doubt in our minds that they injured our dog. Our fear is that he was punished because of his playful, probably uncooperative behavior. We will never go back, and my hope is that you'll take this warning and not bring your pup here either. read more

Petsmart has many products available for pets, and as the commercial goes, "It's the place where pets go," so you can bring your pet along as well. We weren't even aware there was an animal clinic inside until our son and daughter in law brought their puppy here on a trip and she became ill. It was a weekend, of course, so it was wonderful that they were able to get an appointment early in the morning to get their baby treated. Apparently, they use the Banfield pet clinic at their local Petsmart for their vet, and they get her groomed there as well. Nothing like one stop shopping! I had our puppy groomed there once and was not too pleased, but my granddoggie always looks cute. I use a local groomer now and I also have an outside vet and basically use the store just for pet products. It's nice to know they carry the prescription dog food our pet needs just in case of a problem. Very reassuring to know all these services are available 7 days a week just down the street from me in case our vet is not available. read more

I brought my cat here to be groomed. They did a good job getting her clean and even suggested some ways to help improve her coat. The location is very convenient (located next to Target) and the staff is very friendly. I like that they have grooming services, training classes, and adoption events available to anyone. I purchased most of my new puppy's supplies here but I found Petco has a better selection of collars, sweaters, and tags for dogs. I purchased a dog tag at Petsmart and found one I liked better at Petco the next day! All in all, this is a great place to get your essentials but I would visit Petco before I come here. read more

The grooming place in Petsmart Gurnee is awful! I am not a judgmental person, I know people make mistakes but when some untrained, irresponsible, heartless idiot burns my dog multiple times from God only knows what? Yeah you blow dry the dogs but any person with an average IQ should know not to hold the dryer in 1 place for long. I mean, is that how your blow dry your own hair? I'm livid with this trash hole "pet salon". More like pet torture salon. No only did they burn my dog multiple times, but I go the dog park in Lake Villa, duck farms. And I've spoken to several people that refuse to go back to that grooming torture Salon because their dogs have also been burned. July 19th, 2019; Today my friend and I came in to get her dog groomed. It was 5 hours later and we didn't get a call to get him for pick up. So I called to see when he was going to be done and they said we could come in now. We didn't really care that's it took long because he's still a puppy and doesn't do well with other dogs he doesn't know. We get there and we are talking to the lady at the desk about how he was. As she was going over she brings up how he isn't good with other dogs and getting his hair cut and that he needs to get snipped. My friend apologizes for how he was but, this lady was giving us attitude and rolls her eyes after my friend says "yeah, i'm sorry about that". My friend has been taking her dog here since she got him earlier this year. Each time she brings him in, he's even more scared than he was the time before. Neither one of us, as well as her family that tags a long with at times, know what happens after those doors close. But seeing how scared her dog was and how rude the employees are, shows us that we aren't going to be coming back for a grooming again. read more

We've had the puppy plan for my dog since August 2016 and they still call her the wrong name. I've asked multiple times for them to change it in Banfield and it's been almost a year and they still have not changed it. Now when I go to the groomers once a month there, they ALWAYS ask for my dog's rabies information. I give it to them EVERY time and they never take note of it. so today I had an appointment at PetSmart and my appointment was cancelled because one of the employees got bit, I hope she is ok but that's not fair I have to cancel and nobody else can continue customer service.l asked the person I was speaking to if someone else can take over she said no because everyone else is going home ...this just doesn't make any sense and I really don't even want to give them one star because they don't even deserve that but I have to select something. read more

Our pup's mixed-breed is completely unknown, and there are no grooming prices listed online except for À la cart services. So when we called to make an appointment, all we wanted was a nail grind and bath. They recommended their $25 package that will give us the bath, nail grind, and teeth brushing, so we signed our pup up for that. When we arrived I even asked how much it will be..."$25". Now many of you are probably saying we should have known better at Petsmart, including myself now, but that's why we asked how much it would be 3 times in total. They knew it was our first time, to the point that they and I quote "took it slow with our pup". The bill ended up being $70. When I asked them what the $42 was, they responded that it was the "base pay for a lab breed aka the oatmeal bath & that the $25 is an add-on package". Honestly, we still don't fully understand how that would work with other packages (like the O2-infused bath packages). So to make things right, the staff member changed her breed in their system from a lab to a pit bull - which brought the bill down to $60. Now here's our final gripe: we have NO idea what her breed is. Even on our pup's original medical records her breed is unknown. She is a medium-sized shorthaired dog, but for the price to be different based on BREED is not right. We would recommend that it be based on weight (and hair) rather than only the breed. The cost of service should never be omitted or avoided. In a way, we just felt like we had been scammed, and that is the reason for our review. The reason we did not give lower than a 3-star rating is because there was nothing wrong with the way they did the grooming. We paid our bill, but have they lost a returning customer due to our experience. read more

She argued with me about doing/looking at my dogs anal glands even though I was willing to pay for it, then refused to do it until I left and went to pay which makes me think she didn't do it at all. Used to take our dogs here all the time until videos started surfacing of dogs being mistreated during grooming.. no longer take our dogs or any of our animals. We use local groomers. I still pick up dog/cat food from here and last couple times I've been standing in line i blatantly see the girls ripping around smalls dogs who ARE cooperating and not fighting back. I think that is so insane to treat any animals like that! And in plain sight! Imagine what goes on the back. Disgusting. Take your animals elsewhere! read more

Just left PetSmart Gurnee for the last time. Had a 7am appointment to have my 14 yo cocker spaniel groomed. She has gone there routinely since she was a puppy. While checking in they asked any new health issues. I said she was put on a water pill for heart failure. (She is 14) They said they could no longer take her because of new policies regarding heart issues. Confirmed by manager. So I took the day off, showed up at 7am and brought the dog back home. I was told to find a new groomer-perhaps at a vets office. The dog is used to this place. Just want to warn pet owners that if you have an older dog ask ahead of time if they make Pets marts cut to be groomed. They had no problem taking my money for the past 14 yrs. We have to sign a waiver every time we go, what's the difference? My dog has a seizure disorder that seems more serious than taking a water pill. Never to step foot in the door again. Have already told 6 people who could not believe it. Its not just me! read more

Took my dog to the groomers and they did a great job. However, when I went to pick him up, his leash was nowhere to be found. The woman seemed annoyed about the situation, which I did not appreciate. So I had to buy a brand new leash on top of the grooming cost. The grooming was great, but the customer service in the afternoon hours could use some work. read more

They're groomers are very good! Our Persian kitty who needs special care was given the 5 star treatment with Natasia. She knows my kitty and has done great with my kitty. I like how they give a little review of how it went, " She love the brushing, a limitless scared of the blower", etc. others too have worked with and been very pleased and they are polite, so I will come back again and again. read more

This review is less about the store itself, but the grooming salon. We've brought our boxer there many times, never had a problem, always complimentary and thorough. Tonight, my husband called and said "I think our dog might have fleas." I panicked, as anyone who has never had to deal with fleas might. I called at 6:30 pm to see if they could get her in for a treatment. It was too late at that point, but they gave me some suggestions on what to do. I then called back to ask another question, and I spoke with Debbie. She completely talked me off the ledge. She explained how to see if she did indeed have fleas, how to treat her, told me that she probably didn't have them, but if she did, we'd get it resolved right away. Thank you, Debbie, for calming me down and making me realize that everything would be okay! I'll continue to give PetSmart our business as I trust she's in great, caring hands!!! Ive brought my Poodle/ Bichon to be groomed a few times and the last time I took her was my last time. When I picked her up I was told that she was biting, my first thought was she viciously bit someone come to find out she was nibbly for the majority of the groom but it was play biting, i was also told that I need to work with her so it doesn't get worse in the future and that she's a really sweet girl but has a weird way of showing it. They need to learn the difference between biting and nibbling. They are expensive. I wouldn't recommend them at all. read more

Asked for carryout help and felt I was bothering them I waited no one came to help. They held my purchase at checkout while I got my car and I carried it out myself. I really like this place. They have everything I need for my dog, cat and seven fish. Though I never need help in the dog or cat departments, I do in the fish and let me tell you, they are awesome! Kylie used to breed bettas and helped me pick the perfect plants for my tank it was a lot more affordable than I thought and Casey is the fish guru! The other employees that I have interacted with have been great too. Every time I have been there the cashier had a smile. My only complaint is that sometimes the other customers get really rude with the staff and each other, thats really awkward to be around when shopping. read more

I took my dogs there to get their nails trimmed. I usually go to a different groomer in the area, but in a hurry and figured I would try Petsmart for the first time. I was very dissatisfied. As soon as the girl began handling the dog she put her leg against my terrier mix, reached over the dog pinning her with one arm against her leg and quickly started trying to Dremel the nails. Of course, having never been "manhandled" in this manner, my 15 lb. dog started to freak out a little, pulling her paws away and moving around, as I had warned the girl that she wouldn't like the Dremel. She paused long enough to ask for help and grab the regular clippers - so between the TWO employees physically holding my dog still they were able to complete the job. It went the same exact way with my other approximately 25 lb. beagle mix, but they insisted on completing his with the Dremel that he was clearly scared of (because they charge a couple more dollars for the Dremel). I have obviously switched back to my old groomer, who, not only does not have to even hold my dogs still, but doesn't charge as much and is much friendlier. She simply puts them on the table, calmly pets them and says hello then slowly picks up each paw and takes her time and makes sure everybody is comfortable, no manhandling required! read more

This review concerns only their pricing policy at the store (and I imagine this holds true accross the chain). I went there to buy a crate for my mini Schnauzer (which I had to get right then cuz my sitter was suddenly requiring it and I was leaving for 10 days). I was shocked at the price for a metal dog crate 24" x 18" x19" - $61.99!!!!! I was standing there with my mouth open when an Associate came by and I asked her why such a high price for a simple wire crate? She told me to go to petsmart.com and look up the price there. So fortunately I had a smartphone and looked it up. On the website, the crate was priced at a reasonable $24.99!!! She said that I should go to check-out and show them the price on my phone and they would give me the web price. So I did and saved $37.00!!! So this policy actively super rips off all who do not know it and reaps the store a HUGE profit. So take your phones or tablet if you shop at PetSmart or go elsewhere. There were three groomers there when I brought my two puppies in tonight. My female had been there before and never had a problem, but the two 20-something groomers could not handle her. The more experienced one had to step in. Neither of the two novices had the sense to talk to the dog. The experienced one went back to the dog who she was actually working on and the two less skilled did my male pup by themselves. They could not keep him still b cause neither knew how to hold a dog. They did manage to make him need a whole lot of Styptic ointment. For some reason they muzzled them both, seven and five months, even though they told me that they don't muzzle dogs under 10 months. I've never seen them use muzzles before. Buy male managed to take it off for most of the time which neither of them noticed. He was calmer for he two paws without it, but they put it back on him for his last two toes, making a completely docile puppy manic. They advertise having professional groomers, but only one of the three appeared to have skills and sadly she was not working on my dog. My last trip to the groomer at Pet Supplies Plus down the street went much smoother. The dog was happy, no blood, and they're cheaper by $2 per dog, now that PetSmart raised its prices. read more
