Adam (at the Gurnee Pet Supplies Plus_ is the most amazing dog groomer. He groomed Gracie perfectly in every way. I was very nervous since I've had really bad experiences at the Mundelein (Route 60) location. Adam listened to me describing what I wanted for my dog, asked the proper questions and was very gentle and kind. I've never had such a fantastic dog groomer. The store itself seems nice and decently stocked. I couldn't find what I came in looking for (a specific brand of cat treat, Fancy Feast Petites in a certain flavor) but there seemed to be a good selection of other brands/items in general, particularly for dogs. I didn't check out so I can't speak to the friendliness of staff, but they did say hello and wave when I walked in. However, the reasoning for giving three stars is the state of the ferrets' cages. When I saw them, I was shocked. I only saw *one* ferret, not the alleged former two let alone the supposedly current six, but the poor thing's cage was filthy. I decided to see if this was a common occurrence at this store because any pet owner knows it's not really feasible to keep a pet's area 24/7 spotlessly clean and I didn't want to unfairly judge. Doing so, I found four months ago someone else commented on this to which the store responded saying this was due to expansion of inventory of ferrets from two to six "requir[ing] an adjustment to some of our standards and practices" (which I guess means not having the resources to maintain the cages?). I understand short staffing, I understand not being able to maintain cages if there's a lot of animals in there. But there was one singular ferret (pictured sleeping in the pink hammock alone) and a chaotic mess. That can't be healthy for it, surely? Other reviewers mention scores of dead fish which, after seeing this cage, doesn't surprise me. I would hope the owners do a better job of maintaining pet wellbeing instead of shifting blame to changes in standards/practices or allowing customers to blame short staffing. The continued occurrence of this issue speaks to a management problem in my opinion and while I'd like to come back for other cat supplies because of its convenient location, until they fix those issues I don't feel right supporting this store. read more

Adam who groomed my 6 year old beagle was superb. She was shiny and he did an awesome job on her nails, eats, and anal glands!!!

The staff here is a hit or miss. There is barely managers around and the last time I saw one, she was standing around watching as the team members did the work (she had blue hair). I've also seen this same manager throw fits and the few times I've needed a manager to do a return, the worker is usually having to call for one and it takes probably 5 minutes as they are usually in the back office and not on the floor. read more

This has to do with the grooming services. Here we go. I made an online appointment for a wash & brush and that's it, JUST a wash & brush. There were 3 people who were not very welcoming and didn't even greet me (whatever). Dropped my boy off assuming they could see how big and fluffy he is, like most people do. Apparently their eyes weren't working at that time since I received a call telling me there was an up charge for his size (nothing on the website says anything about more $$ due to size) okay fine. I told them that I would pay the additional $10. Here's what really pissed me off. His now $51 grooming bill was over $80 (seriously?). I spoke with the grooming Manager and was told they had to de-shed him because of how much fur he has... no phone call asking me if the charge would be okay. I told the Manager I wasn't paying for a service I didn't request or approve. She then became nasty and reluctantly waived the charge. Then had the nerve say I was trying to get something for free, are you f'n kidding me? Again, I'm paying for something I didn't ask for, approve or order. She told me I wouldn't be able to bring him there again (I'm so heartbroken about that.... Not!). I said no problem I wasn't planning on it. Who wants to take their fur baby and be blindly charged for something you didn't authorize. I spoke with one of the cashiers and was told that the grooming service is not part of PSP. If that is the case then this issue is not against PSP as a store. read more

I use the zignature pork flavor for my dog. This store never has this in any size, when I ask an employee about it all I get is the delivery date! I don't care about that what I asked was if the line was discontinued, also the same problem with Acana pork they don't even offer that, but have the other flavors. I wish this store had adults working there, not college kids no customer service knowledge or skills!!! read more

I give 3 stars because the staff is always friendly; however, here's my issue. I take my dogs there often for the self service bathtubs. I often notice the tubs are not cleaned and I try to do some of it myself....until yesterday all was fine until I noticed when coming out my dogs fur at home that there were sores on his belly. I do most their grooming since I show dogs. I clippered the hair off his belly and immediately realized it was a fungus (I'm also a nurse). I took a picture and showed it to my doctor friend...confirmed fungus and secondary staph/impetigo. So my dog's getting anti final meds/antibiotics and belly scrubs. So we won't be back. The price is good but not if my dogs start getting infections from the wash facilities. read more

Warning Store does not follow Covid protocols, Went there on Monday to bath sister dog a bath. first, there was black grease or something else, My sister's dog got very sick. Bathing area has not been clean look like at least in days, bathing area tub was full of dog hair and crud, and best of all towel hamper was overflowing with dirty towels at least a 2-day supplies of towels, way 2 many for 1-day use, Protocols is to clean after every use. The corporation does not give a damn I called and ask to speak with a supervisor 4 days later, Nobody bothered to return my call. If you are not afraid of getting COVID then this may be a place for you. If you are afraid of getting COVID warning to stay far away. Also, I did speak with the manager who said he never notice the mess. I then said you been here all day and never look in the bath area. The manager needs to be fired. Excellent selection and very friendly and helpful staff. The store is well layed out and it's easy to find items and there is always staff around asking if you need help. The curbside pickup is very convenient and I've been using it about 80% of the time since COVID restrictions were implemented. You just order on the website, they will contact you if there's any issues. Once you get the email confirmation, you just park in their spots and call the store and someone brings your stuff out a few minutes later. I come here because they carry Fromm, but I've stopped bringing my dog due to lack of cleanliness. I always expect random dog treats in a pet shop, but there are price tag, pieces of plastic, tags, unidentifiable powders/grit, etc., all over the floor. I went there to get salmon oil for my dog. Again there wasn't any oil in stock of any brand they carry, The shelves very low on stock, no one around to ask a question. I always go to this store, I haven't seen the store manager in a while. He was a really nice man very fiendly, & helpful. My point being I never had stock issues like this store does. Then when u ask if u will recv stock. Next Wednesday I can't tell u how many times I have been told that! (Annoying).. Went into the gurnee location today for first time. I just adopted 2 small puppies so I needed stuff for them. I asked Libbey on the register to see if they had slip leads, she had no idea what I was talking about nor did she offer to have someone else help me. As im checking out again with Libbey she asked if I had a rewards phone number to.put in, I said no that it was my first time in store. She didn't offer to set me up with one. Then I asked when I could expect a new shipment of food, she didn't know and didn't try to find out. Basically everything I asked her she wasn't willing to help. Bad customer service. read more

Also, the check out lanes are usually backed up at lunch time and takes a long time to get waited on. We volunteer for a rescue and I brought a foster pup in for a self bath. The poor pup completely freaked out. Craig the store manager came to my rescue. While I was panicked and almost in tears, he told me another way to do it and eventually I had a clean pup. I am grateful for Craig's calm demeanor and rescue. Have you ever heard of a 6-HOUR DOG GROOMING????!!! If not, this is definitely the place to go. This place is really ONE OF A KIND. We brought our beloved pet dog for grooming appt at 10:30am and was promised a 2-4hour waiting time. So we expect the grooming to be done by 2:30pm. We came back at 3pm to give them more than enough time. OMG! When we asked if our dog is ready, we were surprised that they have not groomed him yet & we're told to wait for another hour. It seemed that they totally forgot our dog. Mind you, this is with prescheduled USELESS appointment, huh. It could've been far worse if we dont have an appt., they would probably have asked us to pick up our pet the next day for a SIMPLE dog grooming. 1st visit; I took my dog here solely for the pet dog wash. I went to the register & bought the 5 punch card & they gave me a towel & told me to go to the back & wash him. I walked back, walked my 70 pound dog into the elevated wash tub, took off his collars & put on the noose. When I went to turn the water on it wasn't turning on, so after struggling for a few minutes (because the staff couldn't have been inconvenienced to show me how their facilities work) I discover the water hasn't been turned on. Since there were no employees near I had to leash up my already anxious dog, get him out of the tub, find an employee, and repeat all of the previous steps with a worked up dog. 2nd visit; both of my dogs needed a nail trim and I needed to wash one of them. I went to the counter & had them punch my card & told them I needed 2 nail trims. They told me I had to go to grooming for the nail trim. I gave the groomer the dogs vaccination records & the first dog. I told her my other dog had to go outside could I leave the other with her & she said no problem. I came back in & traded dogs with her. She spent probably 20 minutes trying to cut my male dogs nails with no luck (it happens, he's a husky). What upset me was that I was still charged full price & when I got home neither of my dogs looked as if they had nail trims! The one that she claimed to have cut didn't even have raw edges and there was a long tip before the quick even started. $20 wasted bc I had to take them elsewhere anyway. When I went to wash the dog this time I had the same problem & had to drag 2 dogs around with me to find an employee. You're better off going to the libertyville location if you made the same mistake I did & bought a 5 wash card. I only hope that I'm allowed to use my punch card there since the employee who sold it to me said she thought I could but wasn't willing to find out for sure. read more

Pet stores treat there pets terrible and I would never recommend buying a living pet from them. Their ferret was living alone and with no where to climb around (ferrets should never be alone they need companionship. ) the ferrets tank was also kinda broken. their bearded dragon looked weak and sickly and possibly stunted. If you are thinking of buying a live animal I strongly recommend getting one from a pet expo or from a breeder online. They have much healthier pets. read more

Excellent customer service. I placed an online order yesterday at 4:30 for curbside pickup, got a confirmation email but never got the email saying it was ready. So I called at around 6:58, found out it was ready and that the store closed at 7. The girl I spoke to asked how far away I lived and was kind enough to wait 10-15 minutes for me to get there. My cat is diabetic and his auto shipment of food was running late. Thanks to her act of kindness he didn't have to skip a meal. read more

This place is amazing. I have gone here before but didn't get a chance to look around because I had to grab a few treats quick. Today I had to go and see if they had the special food for my dog Fromm that I normally buy from ma and pa local businesses. Don't get me wrong I love supporting local small businesses but this place is so convenient. It is right next to Mariano's where I go to lunch weekly and has my dogs food. I work down the street so during my lunch break sometimes is the only time I have to pick up things. One of the gentlemen in the store asked me if I needed help and I said yes do you have Fromm. He showed me it and asked if I needed any more help. I said yes could you carry the bag because I threw my back out. He not only carried it to the register but out to my car as well. They have great customer service. Not only did he help me but he noticed an elderly lady in the checkout and said to the cashier bring someone else to the front to help her to her car just in case she needs it.
