We noticed that purchasing online would give us a great discount (but not if purchased in the store) but it said it could take two hours to fulfill. Terrible!!!!! I purchased a bearded dragon lizard from this store & brought it in to see the vet since Pet Smart was offering a free exam for pets purchased there. I had to wait over an hour to see the dr, even though I had an appointment. At that point I was told the offer only applied to dogs & cats, although I did not see that stated anywhere. (You'd think they'd tell me that rather than waste my time.) The whole thing was ridiculous. They had to call corporate to get permission for my pet to be seen, which was another whole ordeal in itself. Fast forward to the exam, the dr was a young vet, I'm guessing fresh out of school. She was friendly but incredibly inexperienced. The first words she said to me after she introduced herself were, "I'm actually scared of these things," followed by, "Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?" Are you kidding me??!!?? What doctor says that? The entire experience was stressful, not only for me but for my bearded dragon. That was the last time I stepped foot in "Pet Dumb" & I vow never to return again. read more

I recently FOUND a bearded dragon outside my home and did not know what to do! I went to this petsmart and everyone wanted to help. They were extremely knowledgeable when it came to setting up her tank and figuring out what foods were best for her and when i came in about a month later with news of 23 eggs that she had hatched, one of the vets had plenty of information about caring for the eggs and momma. I would have been stuck with google had i not found the help that i did at this store so thank you! My great dane also has coat issues and they have been very informative with that as well. The store is also well organized and CLEAN which you dont see often with pet stores in the area. I go out of my way to go to this petsmart and its worth it! read more

This store is horrible and I wouldn't buy an animal here ever, most of the employees had attitudes and were just rude in general. Employees are all disgusting and do not care for the welfare of their animals. Their leopard geckos and bearded dragons all look malnourished. Their tarantulas and scorpions are all in critter carriers that are meant to be temporary and there is no space for them to move around!! Also their isopods were bone dry and Dubia roaches were all dead and looked like they were there for a long time! I told the lady with white hair about the isopods and the dubia roaches being dead and she goes "well I don't take care of them" with an attitude. Then the guy up at the counter I told him about the tarantula enclosures being too small and he goes "Ok" with a care free attitude and turns around and goes back to lint rolling his jacket. Choose elsewhere if you expect clear communication, courtesy, and an accurate and neat cut for your dog. After receiving feedback on his service, John, the groomer, told me to make sure I never book with him again. Dear reader, I recommend you don't either. Here's the story: John was a nightmare groomer. I was initially impressed by how much time John took to understand how I wanted my mini-schnauzer to look. I thought he was thorough and accommodating. It was an act. I asked for a modified schnauzer cut on my dogs body. I got just that. I asked for something closer to a Teddy cut on her face which is what she usually gets. Instead, my schnauzer looks more like a chihuahua. It looked nothing like what we talked about. I normally pay before pickup because it's easier, but something told me to wait this time and I'm glad I did. Before bring her out a worker, not John, told me that John said he had to cut lower than we talked about because of "knots." I brush my dog regularly so I can't believe there were many more knots than a standard groom. I've never gotten that feedback from a groomer before and my at-home grooming habits have been consistent. When they brought my dog out I didn't recognize her. I was shocked and confused. John was nowhere to be found. A manager came to speak with me and genuinely seemed to want to make things right. For some reason, John called me about 10 minutes after I left to explain why he made such a huge modification to my dog without informing me. No apology for waiting until the last minute. Just an explanation. His explanation was BS. It honesty looked like he made a mistake with her face and had to take it all down to cover up his mistake. John never apologized for his error in judgement or for not telling me ahead of time. He did make sure that I will never return to Petsmart by recommending that next time I book with another groomer. I would give zero if I could. This is specific to PetSmart at Paramus NJ location. My dog is a 15lb well groomed female dog who gets a bath every 10 days. First off groomer was John- worst possible groomer in the world. Lack of skill and love for dogs- shaved my entire dog who had zero knots , is brushed daily and we had a good experience at petsmart in manhattan so decided to try this one close to work. $90 for a 15lb dog with hemp - I pay $60 other places for a haircut for her - this was a shave the dog type of place with lack of talent or manners. Would not recommend to anyone with a small dog and especially John should be removed from the workforce as dogs are not safe with this person. read more

My online order was left on the cart nearby the unattended cashier booth without supervision. There was no one available to help online ordered customers. I ended up waiting for a while till I found someone walked by. Last time I picked up my online order from this store, 2 items were missing. Let me preface this by saying that my 4 year old Maltese is the sweetest, laziest, good boy that ever lived. He has never shown ANY aggression towards anyone or animal. He will try and play with everything. Has even been sprayed by a skunk trying to befriend it instead of running away or even growl. Went in for a routine vet visit where he bit one of the staff members. The level of roughness they had to be handling him with for him to even bark at them, let alone bite, must've been significant. Every time he's been dropped off he's TERRIFIED to to point of shaking and clinging his paws around our arms. This is a dog who will happily receive pets and snuggles from strangers and let anyone pick him up. How are they actually treating our pets? What are they doing to him to instill such fear and provoke such aggression in a historically nonaggressive, friendly, family companion? THIS IS THE WORST PETSMART EVER!! My dog got bit by another dog as we were leaving, very unprovoked! The lady stopped in her tracks to tell her dog to "be nice" so she clearly knows her dog is aggressive and as soon as she said that her dog went after my dog. My dogs mouth was bleeding and me and the lady had an exchange of words. There was an older female employee working there at the cash register and was just staring the whole time doing NOTHING. I have been going here for over a decade and the customer service has always been top notch (though I haven't tried the vet, training classes or grooming, this review is for the store only). HEARTLESS!! Please do your own home grooming!! I've learned how to groom my own dog and cut his hair so that my dog will be protected & safe! All it takes is to invest in clippers, scissors, some time on a regular basis, patience and most importantly LOVE!!! Be very careful and cautious of injuring your dogs skin & eyes, also check the water temperature so it's not too hot, the temperature of the hair dryer so it's not too hot, and supervise carefully when pets are in the water or are wet so they can't drown, also watching and securing them so that they can't fall from a high place such as a table, to avoid falling groom them on the floor. You can home groom too. Great videos exist on YouTube showing you how to groom safely they key is doing it with LOVE. read more

I was a Petco fan for quite some time, then they opened up a Petsmart that closed down by me and thusly I turned to the supermarket. Since it was my day off I decided to venture out and see what Petsmart was all about...yet again. I do like the layout of this particular store, it's bright, clean, inviting...and labeled well. Since I have a cat, I figured not a whole lot of floor space would be dedicated to them, but I was wrong. The prices on litter and cat food are also far cheaper than supermarket! (I know, supermarket marks it up because it's convenienet....but still!) The guy at the checkout seemed a little off....probably for many reasons...which is why he works there and I work where I work. Didn't really need help with anything (at least here...lol!!!)....so not sure what to expect from the staff. I do recommend going here compared to some other places that are close by! read more

Took my puppy to have a haircut, the called me half way through saying he gets too excited and if he doesn't calm down I'll have to go pick him up. It's almost as if they have never serviced a 5 month old puppy before. Additionally, we asked for a trim, he came back shaved, including all his whiskers, he has a bald patch between his eyes and what hair is left has track lines throughout. Awful services. read more

I stopped bringing my dog for grooming after just event after event. After several visits, I was given a survey to fill out, which after doing so I was immediately contacted by the manager. I've come to find out it was now old staff vs. new staff as the old staff used to either provide services they weren't supposed to or said okay to everything. I also found out that my dog was muzzled and no one ever bothered to tell me about it. Now, I'll stop here and say my dog is a punk, I love her to death, but she is, but we have little kids in the family and the only worry is them getting scratched so if a grown adult as an issue and cannot tell the owner.... Moreover, had I not left a bad review in the survey NO ONE WOULD OF TOLD ME A THING. Every report was how wonderful the dog was and how washing her was easy because she loves being rubbed. Whatever the disconnect, I'm not here for it. After that conversation I decided to try again, twice. The first, honestly it could of been significantly better. Additionally, my doggy's paw's were still full of fur when she went for a full bath and everything else. I pointed out this oversight the second time and it remained overlooked. We haven't been back. She does hate having her paws touched AND SHE WILL LICK SOMEONE AWAY FROM THEM, maybe even bark (which is unlikely). I'm not bringing her back, she's a lab so aside from shedding she's not getting a haircut, so I'm not sure what the issue is supposed to be. But I've tried enough and I'll groom her myself. Why pay for this when I can get treats for her instead? read more

When you pay to have your dogs nails and anal glands expelled you would expect to have your dogs nails and anal glands expelled.. Nails, done.. One clipped blood vessel but done.. Anal glands on the other hand... When my dogs' been sharting up a storm and they "supposedly" expel his anal glands and tell you "nothing really came out" you should start to really consider their experience or lack their of.. About 5 mins after I left he begins to shart. Didn't think much of it, maybe some leftovers? But he's been sharting non-stop since.. We've had this problem with the secaucus location and also had a problem with one of their staff there being a brute with our pug.. If you're tugging on the dogs leg obviously the dog will tug it back.. You don't continue to tug on the leg.. It makes the dog uncomfortable and makes him panic.. Anyways, point is be leery of what you pay for.. You obviously don't know what they do in the back room where you can't see them and to pay for a service and not receive it really pisses me off.. I've taken my dog here twice. For the sheer fact that it's easier to do the online booking for the groomer while I'm in my office. Yesterday they allowed me to book a slot for 8pm, which I knew was weird because usually if I look even late afternoon there are no time slots left. They call me telling me telling me that's too late. It's a 2-3 hour process, which I understand but then why did it allow me to book that service. Then 2 minutes later another girl calls saying same thing. That being said. As I have the girl on the phone I ask if they have availability the following day (Wednesday). She says sure. Puts me in for 7pm. I get a text and email confirming the appointment. Keep in mind my dog is a 3.5lb chihuahua who they've finished in 45 min both times because she doesn't fight them. She just needs a basic bath and sanitary trim. No real grooming. She could air dry in less that 2 hours. It is now Wednesday at 5:25. I get a Call saying ... you guessed it " it's a 2-3 hour process. 7pm is too late ". So my only response was are you going to tell me the same thing every day ? You offered me that time slot on the phone. How are you telling me it's not possible ? And she tells me to come in earlier. I am unable to come in early I just got home from office. Planned the rest of my evening around 7pm. And she just says " ok well if you can come earlier it's up to you ". Am I being punked ??? So unprofessional! Get it together pet smart this will be the last time I'm going. Only reason I'm still showing up at my LATE 7pm appointment is because I work til 11pm next two days and all day Saturday ! Who doesn't love animals? Anytime I go here, it just puts me in a better mood then when I first walked into the store. I love to spoil my cat and 9 out 10 times I end up leaving with something for her. Staff is extremely friendly and are always willing to help out. They have tons of small to large animals that you can adopt on site. They even have a veterinary facility on site now which is a plus because you can shop for your pet, while they are being treated too. Awesome place to go look at different pets or just to kill some time. read more

When we show up with our dog from out of town after a long car ride there was one small sign on printer paper that said "closed on Sundays" even though yelp and online and their voicemail says they're open on Sundays. The parking lot can get full very fast over the weekend, especially if there is an event or demonstration going on. PetSmart shares lot space with DSW and Staples. You can blame the DSW crowd for lack of parking spaces. But if you have some patience, or if you don't mind parking on the Staples' side, then you'll be in PetSmart in no time. I prefer PetSmart over Petco. I like the setup at PetSmart. It's brighter and it makes me feel better to shop there. I have a 14 year-old Yorkie. His diet is very specific and they have everything I need to make sure my little guy enjoys the rest of his days in relative good health. I haven't tried their grooming service yet, but I'll be making an appointment in a few months. They offer a lot of services here aside from grooming such as obedience training and boarding. However spaces are limited so you should definitely give them a call. Added bonus, they offer a complimentary rewards card. Don't forget to opt-out after the first email... read more

My shih tzu haircuts there were a hundred dollars. last time she brought there left with an unfinished hair cut and a bald spot which the groomer insisted was there before brought her to the vet it was razor burn! I took my 10 month old Pomeranian,Simba, there today to get groomed. He's bites. I warned the girls that sometimes it happens. They were all so understanding. I normally would go to Nicole with my old Pomeranian that passed away last year. When I made the appointment on line her name didn't come up. So I made an appointment with I think her name is Daniele? She did a great job with my wild puppy. He's not shedding. He smells great and he bit her. She was very sweet with telling me. I've been grooming my dog here for the past 2 years and they always do a great job. The groomers are all friendly. I feel like Petsmart gets a bad rap sometimes because they are not a private groomer but they always do a fantastic job and the prices are reasonable. As much as we love our pets we can't all afford to go to high end fancy groomers. This last time we waited to get our dog groomed a little to long and some of his hair was matted, they cleaned him up so well and Charlie looked like a million bucks when they were all done! I love that they give you a little report of how your dog did, what products they used, and how his coat and skin is. They have convenient online appointments to make life easier. Weekends are typically very busy and have to be booked a little in advance. I am always happy with how my dog comes out after his grooming. read more
