This PetSmart is close to my job and I've stopped in twice now both times I was greeted upon entrance and the last visit the cashier was so friendly and sweet asked about what kind of fur baby I had and we chatted about hamsters and their funny little personalities. Small positive interactions like this go a long way in making a place feel welcoming. I've shopped at other locations where I was not greeted once though passing multiple staff or where I got the feeling they were somehow irritated by me. Do not bring a cat here for grooming. My cat was to be bathed with deshedding shampoo, I specifically asked that he be brushed thoroughly and his nails be trimmed. Twenty minutes later I was called and told he was ready to go. In 20 minutes?? He was not well brushed and he was waiting in his kennel, soaking wet. Groomer felt he wouldn't like the high velocity dryer, admitted she did nothing besides towel dried him and did not attempt to brush him again. Told me he was well behaved. She was obviously in a hurry to get us out the door so she could go back to grooming the dog she had on the table. I will not be returning to this store for grooming my cat or my dog. read more

Now that I have a fur baby, I frequent different spots to get treats, food, toys, etc for him. I typically come to this Petsmart to pick up specific chews that he absolutely loves. He loves the Dentley's brand that they carry - specifically the beef cheek rolls and the bully stick swirls. They often have great sales going on to save a few dollars, too. Sometimes I find when it gets busier that they don't always have enough people helping out at the checkouts. That's my one con with this spot. The staff is always really nice and helpful so it will be a repeat spot for me! read more

I called Petsmart ahead of time to see if they had animals up for adoption. The girl who answered me was very short, and appeared annoyed.. even when I asked questions about. That employee referred me to an adoption site (which didn't help because she didn't tell me names of the ones that they were hosting) and so I drove 30 minutes thinking that I would potentially be able to adopt only to find out that it had to be done through the site. The gal on the phone did not tell me anything about this although another Petsmart location (after) did give me information about their cats at the facility so it seems like this individual just didn't want to share more information which was a little frustrating since I drove 30 minutes to visit. read more

Took my 7 year old to pick out a fish and was shocked to see the amount of dead fish in most of their tanks. While looking at the goldfish there was a whole pile of them dead on the bottom of the tank. Needless to say we will not be buying any fish from them. read more

I'd been coming here for years and never had an issue until today. Yoda says it best "Do or do not. There is no try"!! So, I will never step in this Petsmart again and will find actual professional groomers to do the work. Another person had a bad experience two weeks ago and imagine how many others say nothing, walk away, and will never come back. This is a great example of post Covid staffing of getting paid to show up and try your best regardless of a good job or not, then blame the dog for not just sitting there like a stuffed animal and the customer for complaining of not doing the job. Grooming service was terrible. My dog just came home with visible lacerations on his ear and near his groin from them shaving too close and cutting him. They told my husband he was "too squirmy" and that's why they didn't bother to shave his tail and his feet were still unshaved. He's probably going to be traumatized the next time we bring him somewhere else. $80 cut for 6 lb dog. Never had issues like this at other locations but just moved to Plymouth. read more

I have brought my schnauzer to be groomed a Petsmart Plymouth before and had good results, but this last time it was not good. She did not get the skirt lines right. Her front chest looked like a bib that stuck out on the sides like a handle bar mustache. She had her harness on her when I picked her up so I did not notice it. I had to do a major trimming when I got home. From now on, I am not going to assume that every groomer knows how to do a schnauzer cut and stick with ones I know. read more

I have taken my dog to different groomers including many Petsmart's. She got the defurminator treatment (usually comes home she's free for at least a week). After going to the Plymouth location, she came home raining hair. I only had 20 min to brush her and got enough hair to stuff a pillow! Our groomer retired and we decided to try Petsmart out of convenience. I love that they are strict in their rules especially with vaccinations. Groomer was very nice but the cut was terrible though. I annoyingly requested three times that the top remain long and the face be cut short. I wanted to make sure that my two most important items were crystal clear. When I picked her up, she was shaved on top and her tummy was untouched. Her face was cut close like I asked but uneven. I just wanted two things done right and I would have been happy. I expect more from a 90 dollar cut on a 15 pound dog. I'm already looking for another groomer. read more

I often take my Bulldog in for a nail trim (he's a nightmare to do it myself) and they usually do a decent job. However, they do occasionally slip in an unasked for service. For example, my most recent trip to Petsmart I asked for a nail trim ($10 according to their Website), but the groomer billed me for a nail trim and ear cleaning which is $15. I called her on it, but let it slide since I had a $5 coupon with me. It's dishonest, plain and simple. Don't know if that's a directive from management or if they're doing this stuff on their own. Also, there's a weird vibe in the groomer's room when they're busy and several groomers are jammed in there at the same time. I get it, they're busy and stressed, but it tends to spill out to the customer. And... when I gave the cashier my coupon it didn't have the barcode on it, but it did have the code which she entered. Then she got nervous and called a manager to come check the coupon. I told her I had the coupon on my iPhone so I proceeded to open it and show her and the manager. She immediately became defensive. When I showed them the coupon she became even more defensive to which I told her I wasn't mad about it I was just being thorough. She relaxed after that and we exchanged a quick convo about the retail biz. I don't know if this woman is naturally defensive or if the job is making her defensive. She mentioned management gets on her case sometimes. Who knows exactly what that means. This type of thing isn't uncommon today. People just seem shell shocked anymore. lol read more

What is the point of having a rabies dog tag, if it's not significant enough to determine if a dog is up to date on their rabies shot??? It's way too easy to make up a certificate saying they're up to date than it is to have a up to date tag. They refused to simply trim my dogs nails because I did not bring in the certificate. I've been a customer at this location for 51/2 years. If anyone, in my opinion, has any common sense, they would not have their dog groomed here. A few days ago I dropped my dog off at 6pm for grooming. Twenty minutes later I got a call to pick him up because he bit. I was confused because all the years I took him there, I was NEVER told he did that. I arrived and he was back in the kennel. The groomer told me she went to get him out to groom him and then he bit her. I asked for my dog and said I would make an appointment with another groomer at another time. They...meaning three groomers and a store manager told me I can no longer bring my dog back because he bit. I went to get my dog from the kennel and he was soaking wet. The groomer was able to shampoo him, so something happened during or after this step took place. I asked if they could please dry him a little because it was 14 degrees outside and he was already shaking. They all told me I needed to leave now and they could no longer do anything for him. Talk about shock!!!!!! They told my if I didn't leave they were calling the Plymouth Police Department and the police would impound my dog for biting. The only thing I could think about then was, would the police department let them force me out with a wet dog??? One of the groomers said I can give you a hand towel to wrap around him. I wrapped my dog up and brought him home. I took photos of my wet dog and of the light blue hand towel too. I'm a 62 year old dog owner, with a 11 pound shih-poo. He loves a bath and his grooming....need I have to say anymore???? Please think about grooming here. I 'm just wondering how many of them are truly dog lovers. We've been bringing our sweet dog here for many years for cut and shampoo. but we're tired of their games. Years ago they told us we had to bring her every 8 weeks to get a reduced price. Today they claim they never had an 8-week promotion! Tired of PetSmart tricks. Last time we brought her (8 weeks ago) - the next day we noticed an unusual bump on her "wrist" and we rushed her to our vet (do not go to Banfield, their vet - they are not good at diagnosing - missed lung cancer and a kidney infection in our last dog). At our vet the bump was quickly diagnosed as a fast-growing cancer. Catch is, it was already a big bump - but the Petsmart groomer had not noticed OR had not cared to let us know. Also, last year this same Petsmart nicked our dog's back leg - she was bleeding when she got home - bled on the floor at our home...that's how we noticed it. Called this Petsmart and they apologized and offered to treat her (we'd already bandaged her) AND they offered to reimburse us the grooming fee - but PetSmart's 8-week program (which they now claim did not exist!) would have ended up costing us more. Check their tricky pricing and check your dog. read more

I buy all my "brick and mortar" pet supplies here. The prices aren't too bad -- a bit higher than online, but that is to be expected. I cannot speak for the cats, fish, etc., but they have a good selection of dog food, toys, crates, beds, etc. Once my puppy accidentally peed on the floor. While trying to find something to clean it up with (there are towels and spray bottles hanging in specific locations), one of the employees actually helped me clean it up. Totally did not expect that! The staff is friendly, though I have heard through friends that the dog training is lacking (apparently all you need is a day course to be "certified"). I highly suggest going to your local humane society for training anyways. read more

My review pertains only to the grooming operation. I highly encourage you NOT to bring your dog here. With my mom's dog, a poodle-bichon mix, I had taken him there for a few years and thought we had established a professional relationship. Then one day I picked him up after a grooming and they said he had done well. as soon as I got him home I found he had two ticks, engorged and the other was the remaining half of one that had been clipped. Then I did a more in depth look over him and found a one inch gash on his flank from what I assume to be the clippers. Now, I understand that he can be wiggly and accidents happen. What I find intolerable is that they weren't upfront about the cut or the ticks. They were completely unprofessional in trying to hide those things from me. I had to take him to the vet when I described the injury on the phone and had to get an antibacterial ointment to put on it. With my dog, a toy poodle, I took her there the day before the aforementioned incident. It was her first grooming session and I explained that she was a puppy mill rescue with some anxiety issues and they assured me they would go slow and make sure she didn't get overwhelmed. Less than an hour later I received a phone call that I had to come get her because she bit one of the groomers. Now this dog has been submissive and has never bitten someone before or after this incident. I calmly asked them what happened before the bite and they reluctantly told me that she had slipped out of the restraint while they were bathing her and then they accidentally dropped her as she was slippery from the soap. The groomer lunged to catch her and that is when she bit. It was out of fear not of aggression, but since they have a no bite policy they wouldn't work with her. I understand why they have this policy, but you can't put a dog in an unfamiliar environment, drop a six pound dog four feet and expect her not to be scared. They wouldn't even have a different worker finish rinsing the soap off. I got there and my poor dog was soapy and soaking wet in cage, shaking and wining. Then they had the gall to try and charge me for a "bath". I refused. I had to rush home and finish bathing her. I started taking her some where else and they groomer said she is her best behaved client and her favorite. They even want to use her as a model dog for new hair cut styles. So that incident was clearly because of extenuating circumstances not because of her behavior. If you want your dog treated right, DO NOT take them to pet smart groomers!!! read more

For an average pet store, this place isn't too bad. I come here for toys, treats, cat food, and grooming. I used to get my dog food here but switched to NutriSource, which they do not carry. The staff is friendly however they are not always too informative on the products and animals they sell. Almost every time I visit, I see anywhere between 4-10 bearded dragons all housed together in a 5 gallon tank. Most hobby herpetologists know that it is impossible to create an atmosphere that has a hot and a cool side in such a small enclosure. Single hatchlings do best in at *least* a 20 gallon tank but will outgrow that fast and should eventually be housed in 40+ gallon enclosures. I understand these are not meant to be 'permanent' enclosures, but the bare minimum is done, which I don't think is acceptable for a company that can afford to better house these animals. In several of the reptile habitats, I see they use calcium sand as a substrate, which can actually be lethal. Too much calcium intake will cause alkalosis and hypercalcemia. If a reptile is housed in an enclosure that is filled with calcium sand, you cannot monitor the accidental intake which is dangerous. Alkalosis results in renal failure or metatastic calcification and hypercalcemia can lead to nerve, muscle, and tissue damage; fyi. Pet stores like Petsmart house their reptiles on this substrate because they sell it and most unsuspecting parents that want to purchase a reptile for their child is well, unsuspecting and trusting. Because why would a bag that states it is non-toxic be toxic? Another thing I've noticed is that sometimes, their tortoises and turtles are housed with multiple other species. This is never recommended, even for experienced herpetologists. I've seen Russian tortoises housed with Red-footed tortoises. These two tortoises require two separate types of habitats. What ends up happening is one suffers because they cannot thrive in the other's atmosphere. Red-footed require a lot of moisture and humidity while Russians require a much dryer climate. In the end, what I see (and not just in Petsmart but at Petco's as well) is that they acclimate the Red-footed and put a lot of water and raise the humidity, but the Russian ends up getting an upper respiratory infection and pass away quickly after being purchased. On a better note, I do like their grooming services as they are normally inexpensive and quick. I usually take my dog to get his nails trimmed and his ears cleaned and it would normally cost about $15. I applaud anyone that can tolerate my dog and his skittishness when it comes to nail trimming and they do a great job. There was only one time that I noticed one of his nails was cut too short and he was bleeding but out of the other 20 times or so I went, this has not happened so it may have been a fluke or he may have jerked his foot. The staff in the grooming salon are always very good with my dog and make it as easy as possible for him. read more

I have always went here to get my dogs nails trimmed. However, today they declined to cut my dogs nails today because they didn't have verification that my dog had her rabies shot. It has never been an issue in the past, and now all of a sudden they can't help me. My dog has had her rabies shots & apparently they couldn't find my dogs records when they called my dog's animal hospital (which could be blamed due to having an abnormal name/last name which gets misspelled everywhere I go). Very disappointing service. At least be consistent with your standards. read more

Twice in the last month I've been in this store and picked up merchandise from a bin with a price on it, only to be given a much higher price at the register. This happened today with bully sticks - in a bin marked $9.99. At the register I was being charged $36 for two of them. When I showed the clerk where I got them, which was full of the same merchandise, he just said "yeh that's a mistake, the real price is $18 each". He was very dismissive and no apology. I left without purchasing them, or anything else. And they just lost a customer. I find it odd that this never happens to me at any other store except this one, but yet the clerk blamed me both times. read more

I have been bringing my Cavalier King Charles to the Plymouth, Minnesota grooming facility for five years. Never a problem until recently. I get the defurminator grooming and it is very pricey (I spend $80.00 every 6 - 7 weeks). My dog is passive and lets anyone do anything to him without a whimper. He came home from his last grooming with an inflamed eye from what I was never able to find out. Not one employee cared enough about it to even talk to the groomer who had done his grooming that day. She didn't provide me with the usual "report card" after grooming either, which in hindsight is sketchy. His eye looked terrible for 24 hours and I know it hurt because all he wanted to do is sleep. What I am the most disappointed in is that every employee I talked to about this just didn't care. The "acting manager" never once empathized or showed the least bit of concern for my dog. I had to call back two days later to talk to the "real manager" and she was just as bad. No empathy whatsoever. In my opinion they both should find another career. They stink at this one. For some reason the store has been losing groomers like crazy and they are bringing in groomers from God knows where to fill in. The groomer that was responsible for my dog was not even an employee at that location. I will NEVER take my dog there again. read more

Wanted to add a good review of the store. I have been going there since 2008 and have had an overall good experience. The store has everything my dogs need. My dogs have been through the puppy training and it has had the same person since then and she does a great job. I also take my dogs to their grooming department and have had consistently good service - again they have long term help there. They always confirm safety protocols such as verification of my dogs rabies status, they take time to understand how I want my dogs groomed and then do a terrific job. My dogs never come home stressed and always look great! If I had a complaint it is that the grooming can be costly with all of the add-ons. I cannot speak to their vet services (as my dogs go elsewhere) and to the other animal products or services, though the overall store seems well run and clean with many long-term employees which for me speaks to consistency and good service. read more
