Really neat atmosphere, so so staff, food that keeps you guessing. This was a place I really wanted to keep loving, especially since walking into it you feel like you're going back in time a bit but in a good way. The decor is amazing, and the menu is pretty impressive considering how quickly they're able to get the food out. The staff - eh. We went on a Friday afternoon and even with a reservation and the place being empty, we still got some major league sass from the hostess. Then I watched her do the exact same thing to a nice older couple --- the guy walked up to the host stand of the empty place and with a smile asked 'Would there happen to be any room for us?' and the woman sneered back and with a straight face said no. Foodwise - the chicken parm looked really good. The caesar salad wasn't too impressive. The key lime pie was FANTASTIC. I'd go back just for that. The location and smbiznce is great. Clean, nice bathrooms. However, there were a few issues. We were a party of 8 with a reservation. The concert we were attending at Symphony Hall was running late. They agreed to extend our arrival 30 minutes later, but kept warning us that they could not hold it much longer. When we finally all arrived, this large restaurant was almost empty. So, why all the drama about this? The food was just ok, mediocre. No one at our table was talking about their order. The main grievance was the service!!!! Super poor. One star. Lots of bus help but our waitress was definitely slow and not interested in providing good customer service. Valet parking was too expensive $22. read more

Stopped by Petterino's To Go for breakfast one day as I was surprised to see it inside the old Do-Rite Donuts location when I went over to grab a donut. I ordered an egg and cheese sandwich instead and it was very good for $3! It was on a nicely toasted English muffin, fluffy egg, and flavorful cheddar cheese. Coffee was great too! The Egg & Cheese sandwich and a large iced coffee was like $6, which I thought was a great value in Chicago. The guy working inside was friendly so service was great! He also told me that they will serve Do-Rite Donuts as well so that is always a plus having the best donuts in the city! We snuck in here and grabbed a table in the bar area before a show in a nearby theater. We grabbed multiple apps and a couple of drinks. The place was absolutely packed. Even though being extremely busy, the service was good and the food came out of the kitchen quickly. The three stars is because the menu wasn't very exciting -- very middle of the road. First time I've been back post covid. This place used to be soooo good: homemade bread, great ice tea, I loved their chicken parmigiana. Now it's $4 for a basket of dinner rolls, the ice tea is meh and the chicken parm is too thick and chewy. As a fan of the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants, I had recently tried Petterino's and I was not disappointed. Upon entering the building, I was greeted by the hostess with a smile. The entry had the 50's feeling with the heavy wood and subway tiles on the floor. There was plenty of area to for me to wait for my guest. On right side of the entry was the bar with plenty of seating and on the left of the entry were seats along with a piano. Once my guest arrived, we were seated immediately. We were lucky to be able to sit in a large booth in the back of the room and next to the wait staff area. This did not bother us. On the walls, you will notice the platters of various famous guests who have dined at the restaurant. Our server, Wendell, was fantastic. He had sensed that we were in for a leisure dinner. He was busy with other tables; however, he made sure we had our wine and rolls. Both were great! We went for the 7 After 7 menu which is very reasonable. I would highly suggest this menu. I had ordered the Calamari, Chicken Armando and Peppermint Ice Cream Sundae. My guest had the Mussels, Four Cheese Ravioli and the Peppermint Ice Cream Sundae. Everything was delicious. No complaints at all. I would highly suggest the restaurant for the food and service. I am looking forward to my next visit to this great restaurant. read more

Two of us had dinner. My friend, the local, picked it. The place was toasty warm despite the freezing cold outside. The atmosphere reminded me of the classic Italian restaurants in the old days and I half expected Sinatra to come around the corner. We were seated in a roomy booth which I loved. I started with a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives; it was delicious and much needed after the hectic week. For my appetizer, i had with the Caesar salad which was cheesy. The have the anchovies inside the dressing- the way it was meant to be. I would come back for this salad alone! The salmon main course was good. For dessert I had the homemade chocolate ice cream with candied nuts. I would have preferred more nuts but otherwise it was very good. The ice cream was creamy but also mousse -like. I had lunch here with clients recently. Petterino's is a perfect venue for that. The walls are lined with caricature sketches of various VIPs. People from out of town always like that. I have been coming here from time to time since 2002 and plan to keep going. Thee food is good and satisfying. While not dirt cheap, the entrees are reasonably priced based on the amount of food provided. I have never left here hungry. I was most recently here shortly before Christmas and had the almond crusted whitefish. It was good and came with cauliflower on the side. Service is always excellent. I have never had any complaints. The Servers are friendly and efficient. If there is any down side to eating here, it is that the tables are pretty close together. It is noisy enough that talking across one of the larger tables (we had 9) is not easy. These issues don't bother me much. read more

This was our first dining opportunity at Petterino's. The manager Justin was super friendly, giving us a history of the restaurant and the caricatures. Better yet was the food and the service we received from Bailey our server. She knew the menu inside and out and made super suggestions. My wife is 100% Italian and loved the sauce. The Strawberry desert was fantastic. We could not have chosen a better place, especially just being in town 1 night. Highly suggest Petterino's. BRAVO!! read more

I was so very disappointed have been to this restaurant for years. Last time I was there was before COVID I must admit. At that time the food was amazing. Now the food was very low quality, the menu which was amazing before is now a piece of paper. The only offered one steak. This time I had the pasta which was nothing but mush so overcooked. I had mushroom fettuccine which was like brown paste with mushrooms. I had to ask for bread and I got four pieces of dried out focaccia, I remember when they used to give you a basket of bread with many different choices in it. Looks like I will have to find a different restaurant when I go to the theater. The service was also very slow and I noticed my waittess never asked me how I like to food. The only thing I took away from Petterinos today was bad breath!! We have been dining here for years prior to matinee theater. It was our go to place. Always delicious and predictable. Today we dined for lunch. There is new ownership, a new menu and new staff. Very disappointed. The coffee was cold, Diet Coke syrupy, and my ravioli was flat as a pancake! It was over cooked so there was no filling to be found. Sauce just ok at best. Service was ok but had a weird waitress. I long for my old Petterinos. You have some work to do to get it up to previous standards. I won't be dining here anytime soon. In fact, cancelling my reservation for July prior to theater. read more

We came here for a late lunch on a date day in the city. Late lunch because Someone forgot to make a pre-theater dinner reservation until the day before. Forget that! But as it turned out, lunch was perfect. Even though we were almost the only ones in the restaurant at 3 pm, the service was impeccable and the food wonderful. Chicken Pot Pie for me, Fish and Chips for the hubby. I thought that would be sort of a light lunch but I was wrong. A beautiful portion of puff pastry, asparagus, carrots, onion, all-white meat chicken chunks in a creamy sauce was delicious (but not light in any sense of the word except for color). Delicious. It was accompanied by a perfect salad and bread basket. The fish and chips was lightly battered cod and french fries, a fairly enormous portion (what is dinner like?? - goodness) and very tasty. The atmosphere, replete with caricatures and coziness, is really something special, even at lunch. Someday I'll come by when the place is full and experience that vibe; I expect it will be just as nice. This is one place that I think is not over-hyped at all. read more

Service at the restaurant was horrible. We had to find a waiter and when we did we ordered two glasses of wine and magically, we got one right and one wrong. Then I got the bartender to give us the right class of wine for the wrong one. And when our dinner came out, we never got bread with our meal and we watched other people get bread with theirs. We frequently go to Petterino's for dinner before seeing Broadway shows, so I have been here many times. Each time, the food is phenomenal and the service is excellent. I was so happy that Petterino's was able to accommodate a large group for my recent birthday celebration. As I planned this event well in advance, the reservation numbers fluctuated over time and the staff was very flexible each time I needed a change. My guests all enjoyed the restaurant and I was happy to try the special offerings on their Chicago Restaurant Week menu. I had the Italian poutine, gnocchi, and pound cake, all of which were phenomenal. Our server did a great job keeping up with our larger party. The service was a little disjointed at times, such as when only half of the party received their entrees, but these things can happen with a big group! Overall, the meal was enjoyable and I am happy I chose Petterino's. We will definitely be back before our next Broadway production! read more

What an amazing find! I got lucky and was able to get 2 seats at the bar as soon as I walked in during dinner rush, it was first come first serve and they do offer the full menu at the bar. The place was busy but I imagine that is nothing out of the ordinary for them! The ambiance and environment were so nice and the live piano player was a great addition. The drinks were good and the food was yum, prices were a bit high but I think that's due to the restaurants location so it wasn't much of a surprise. Would highly recommend if you are in the area, this is definitely a good place to go eat and have a drink before a show as the theaters are right around the corner! read more

So very good! We actually have been to this spot a few times and it is always so very good! The steaks in particular are delicious and the menu overall has for variety of items- the location is great also located downtown on Randall street near the Goodman Theatre. I was visiting Chicago to see my mom. We planned to have a day in downtown Chicago on Sunday, which we did. Once we got down there, we shopped a little bit and after a while we started to get really hungry. I stumbled across this place at first, but my mom wasn't really feeling Italian, so we first stopped by a place a couple blocks down. We didn't even get service there, so we got up and left. We once again passed this place and decided to go in. Service review; It was packed wall to wall with people (around dinner time), but were seated in less then 2 minutes after walking in. We were SO happy because we were starving. Our waiter was very quick and really friendly, he got our drinks and appetizers out in a quick manner and though it was busy he still came to check on us every so often. Food review; I ordered the gnocchi, and a cup of the special corn chowder. And my mom ordered the side or lobster Mac n' cheese. Once we ordered, it only took about 10 minutes for outer food to arrive. Let's just put it this way, it was DELICIOUS!!! The food is on the pricier side, but that is expected because of the central downtown location. FIVE STARS!! When I visit Chicago again, I will be going here. YUM!!! read more

Peterino's food reflects its primo location in the heart of Chicago's Theatre District. The two Sunday lunches I've eaten there recently, before shows, have included some real showstoppers. The atmosphere is convivial with banquettes so close you can ask the folks at the next table what they're eating, if it looks mouthwatering. Service is prompt and welcoming. Main course portions are generous. And, my Great Lakes Whitefish was perfectly cooked both times - not dry, not oily, not mushy, flavorful and well-presented with broccolini and garlic mashed potatoes. Save room for dessert, Pionono (pictured below). It looked so good, when it came to the table next to mine, that I asked my waiter if I could change my dessert order, exactly what the table on my other side did, when they saw mine. The valet parking is a bonus. What impresses as much as the food is the staff's thoughtfulness. Open Table showed no tables open for the time I needed, so I called the restaurant using the cell phone number on which I'd made the first reservation and left a message. In a few hours, I got a text message confirming my table at the time I needed. Five star food and five star service. read more

The ambience is nice and cozy with caricatures all over the walls. The food and service is great, except for 1 little problem we faced was the Busser. I was here with 2 collegues and he was very rude to 1 of them. While clearing the large plates, he literally slide the bread that my collegue was eating onto a small one. We heard the clinging sound of the dishes and felt it was highly inappropriate. He could've requested or just let the plates be. Apart from this glitch, the food was really delicious. The shrimp cocktail, chicken armada or rizzo's, and the white fish are really worth trying. For dessert, Tiramisu will hit the spot just right. read more

We just had a post wedding lunch here because it's one of our favorite places but a few things have changed and not for the better. First, the music. Holy crap, it's classic Italian restaurant with an old fashioned upscale look and the music today was loud horrible pop music, because reasons. We asked the waiter, a lovely and very helpful gentleman, who selects the music and he said whomever is working the host desk basically. Uh, no. This is a place which caters to judges and attorneys for lunch and to Goodman theater patrons for lunch and dinner, crappy B96 radio is so out of place it was nauseating. You don't have to play solely Frank Sinatra but for the love of God do not let whomever is standing up front select the tunes. You have created a theme restaurant here, keep that in mind and certainly look around at your clientele. Every single person there was over 45-55. No one looked like they enjoyed that drivel. Second, the sizing on the cups and bowls of soup have literally been cut in half since we were there a few months ago but the prices are the same. Again, no. The cup is a ramekin and the bowl is a cup. Bite me, Lettuce. Seriously. On the plus side the food was tasty and the service was great but unless the music is addressed we won't be back and it has been our go to for celebrations and wonderful days out for years. read more

Pretty standard nice Italian/Steakhouse food. Nothing too crazy, but everything is very solid, and reasonably priced for the city. Nice bread and Parmesan crisps on the table which is always nice. I got the Filet Trio with Parmesan crust cooked medium rare. It was really good crust, and the meat was cooked excellently. It came with mashed potatoes with crunch onion straws on it which was a good textural experience. Other notable piece is that it is right across the street from the Oriental theater! read more
