I'm not a big fan tomatoe anything. But their tomatoe bisque is outta this world, even for Chicago standards. You gotta have it. And then my martinis... the lemonelle... I tried to make a last minute reservation at 530p but alas its a popular time. After work drinks and dinner is great in the heart of downtown in this busy restaurant. During lunch time the high end clientele of lawyers fill the tables with Daley Plaza nearby and surrounding lawyer offices. This is a good spot for theater patrons as well. At the last minute i was able to get a table near the bar. I miss the famous carictures and the more subtle atmostphere. I find it odd that I am the only one watching the tv and i wanted a comedy with captions but the manager insists on sports. read more

Had horrible service at the Dearborn across the street, so I walked across to Petterino's and was so happy I did! I sat at the bar, and received friendly and attentive service. Bartender gave me a perfect Chianti Classico wine reco. It went great with the salad and pepperoni pizza. Will definitely be back! read more

Ordered Takeout from Petterino's website. Arrived to pick it up, hostess said she would check on it, and then was told to wait. After waiting for more than 30 minutes, was told by a rude and unhelpful manager they had no order from me. From enjoying the theatre , graduation, Birthday, intimate evening to celebrate anniversary, great memories, great friends and great food Prior to the evening; I made a visit to the restaurant to make sure that they'll able to accommodate my diet. The chef, hostess and manager was great and personable. I wanted to have a special evening planned for my Mother. I found out that Petterino's gives perks to the Goodman Theatre customers. The restaurant is adjacent to the theatre. You don't have to go outside to go to the restaurant. I loved the ambience. The atmosphere here is beautiful. I love the classic & elegance. I came with coworkers on a business trip, and we had an absolutely delightful meal. We loved the ambiance--my boss kept saying, "this is so Tony Soprano" again and again; I don't know who that is, but my boss seemed really happy about it... It wasn't hard to get a reservation for 7 people at 7:15pm on a Wednesday night. We were seated quickly, and the ambiance was so nice. The Christmas decorations were up (Dec 4), and it felt warm and inviting. The caricatures on the walls gave it a character and fun personality. The bread was delicious--although I could've had even more for our group of 7 (although I absolutely didn't need more, give the size of the meals). We had calamari, stuffed mushrooms, and the shrimp cocktail as appetizers. The mushrooms were my favorite--slightly crisp from the garlic, and then chewy and flavorful. The other two apps were fine, pretty standard. I had the shrimp & fettuccine entree, which was a huge portion size with maybe 6-7 pieces of shrimp and 4-5 pieces of broccoli. The broccoli seemed to have an extra kick of spice and flavor, which was a nice touch. We also shared the tiramisu and key lime pie. I especially liked the key lime pie--rich but not too rich, and a nice tang of lime. The tiramisu was a generous portion size. Going to see a show in Chicago? Check this restaurant out. It's a really nice restaurant that has reasonable prices for quality food in downtown Chicago. My recommendation is to get their Italian food. This is what they're known for. The meatballs? Decadent and delicious. The bolognese? Filled with amazing homemade pasta ribbons and fresh beef. And the dessert? The perfect way to end the meal. We had their creme brûlée special and it was creamy and delightful. They also had a nice offering of beers, wines, and cocktails. I loved the Right Bee Cider. The service was excellent and ensured we arrived to the theater on time, without rushing us. They were attentive about filling our water and bringing us our food. Was in Chicago with friends this past November and stumbled upon this gem! Upon entering we were greeted by Stephen Fish, the General Manager. He was well dressed, the ultimate professional and clearly a master of his craft. We sat down and ordered a beer at the bar, then ordered one of each of the 3 pizza choices on the menu. The Prosciutto choice was my favorite! He was quick to pass through to see how we were enjoying the food, then we struck up a conversation about some pizza recipes that I use on my grill at home in NJ. I must have struck a nerve, because out comes Ozzy the Executive Chef with questions about my recipe! We joked about having it added to the menu, let's see! Came here to have dinner on a quiet Monday evening. It was raining outside and the two places I wanted to go to were closed due to the rain. 4.5 stars in downtown Chicago must be pretty good I thought why not let's go ahead and check it out. Loved the music and the atmosphere in here it is pretty neat. The food was good - I got the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo. When I walked in, I was greeted with; Sir, keep in mind we close in 9 min. Change them hours to close at 9:51 then!!! The same person was continuously cussing and I didn't appreciate that vibe. Lastly, Yelp and Google show you close at 10, yet all staff insist you close at 9pm. Please update this information online for consistency. Atmosphere is great. Service was good enough. Kids ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and split it. Came served in two bowls already and that was nice. But the fettuccine looked like a clump of dried noodles. Kids said it wasn't that good. Obviously cheap on the Alfredo sauce. Wife and I split the fettuccine with mushroom and it was OK. Nothing mind blowing. We split the fudge brownie for desert and that was good. Food was on the table very fast though they said they were quite busy. The ambience is great with pictures of celebrities donning the wall in caricature. The occasion was my 32nd wedding anniversary. My wife and I had a date to see a show so I looked for restaurants in the theater district within walking distance from the Chicago Theatre. Petterino's seemed like the perfect spot. Located on the corner of Dearborn and State Street, it is within walking distance to the theater with parking conveniently across the street at the mall. I made reservations for two online with special instructions stating that it was an anniversary celebration. They seated us along the wall, which felt kind of spectator like, even though there were tables open throughout the floor. The maître d' made no mention of the anniversary. Disappointing. Our server barely made eye contact, speaking in a low, Lirch like voice ala Addams Family. He mumbled through the specials for the day and came across as if we were interrupting his rest. He never mentioned the anniversary and when asked if there was something special" that they do for anniversaries he didn't have a clue. That would not have been an issue had not the couple sitting next to us, who was also celebrating their 32nd wedding anniversary (what's the odds of that????), told us that they loved the cake that they were served in celebration of their's. I would have thought that all of the service was poor at this establishment yet their server appeared to be a delight. She was engaging, attentive and gracious. She seemed happy they were there and wanted to do everything she could to make their meal memorable. Boy I wish we had her... I ordered the Steak Frites with a Crab Cake appetizer. My wife ordered the Teriyaki Salmon with the Tomato Bisque. The crabcake was delightful with a generous portion of lumped crab meat served on a bed of corn and peppers. The entrée left a lot to be desired. My steak was dreadfully undercooked, tough and poorly seasoned. About 1/4 inch thick, it was adorned with a glob of grilled onions was thrown on top looking more like glass noodles then onions. My wife actually enjoyed her meal, which is why they get more than one star. To close the evening I asked for the check. Only then did my server care to ask if we were going to the show. It was the that my wife asked about the anniversary cake and dumbfounded, he gave us a glassy look and stated he didn't know what we were talking about, never inquiring why we even asked. My comment here is specifically regarding the lunchtime bartender on Superbowl Sunday. We were seated near the bar in one of the booths. The bartender was talking loudly to other employees, enough so that the patrons could hear him. This is our go to place for pre Broadway shows at the Neaderlander(formally the Oriental). They have their system down perfectly for getting you in and out on time with a great meal. My wife likes the almond white fish which is a little big for her, but good for me to finish! I almost always order the Judge Rizi's chicken, which is similar to a light chicken piccata. We usually share a Key Lime pie, which is not overly sweet. Then it's off to a show! read more

Walking around Chicago and decided to stop here for lunch. What a great choice. It's a bit fancy but not over the top. The menu prices were very reasonable. We ordered the meatball sub and crispy chicken sandwich. Both were served with yummy fries and were delicious. The atmosphere and decor were great. AMAZING PASTA! First off the service was amazing the moment we stepped foot in the restaurant the staff was so nice to us. The food came out super fast and it looked beautiful. The food is better than one might expect for a restaurant that is capitalizing on its location. I particularly like the Caesar salad, which is a classical style without any of the odd deconstruction that is in vogue. My grilled trout was excellent, as was my companion's almond-crusted whitefish. Service is friendly and extremely efficient, because the place is geared to filling up and getting patrons out in time for their show. This was a wonderful Italian restaurant. I went with my family and we were not disappointed. We called in and made a reservation and accommodations were made for us fairly quickly on a Saturday evening in the city. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by the iconic feel of a 80's restaurant with their red velvet booths. Trish was our server and she did an amazing job! The fried calamari was wonderful however the serving size was not enough for 4 people I would recommend it for 2 people. But it was one of the best calamari dishes I've tried. The fries were great! Really crunchy! My rigatoni was just okay, I felt as though the pasta was undercooked just a little bit but I didn't want to bring it up to trish since she was doing such a wonderful job. Wish I ordered something else The salmon was very good with a Smokey flavoring. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. However my favorite was the chicken Parmesan. Though my dining companion could complete her meal before my meal arrived, good conversation lightened the mood. The free-fall decline of my expectation for this restaurant began when my food arrived. My risotto did not have saffron or cheese in it! The food was quite bland. When I questioned it with management, she told me that the server had described it wrong and that it was the Christmas special he had described. I then asked our waiter, who said the saffron was in there, followed by you don't put cheese on seafood. Really?! Stopped in for a dink and a quick bite before a show at the Goodman Theatre next door. As we only had a little over an hour before the show, we decided to grab a tall tale in the bar area. Bartender came around quickly to take our order. I opened for a Sidecar, it was acceptable. My date had the Windy City Martini (a dirty Martini with blue cheesed stuffed olives), he shared a sip and it was delicious (though a little much on the olive juice for me). For snacks, we chose the slider trio, tater tots and fried burrata. The sliders were very good, tater tots were huge in comparison to normal tater tots, The horseradish sauce with the sliders was dynamite. Burrata left something to be desired. I love burrata, but the frying of it only made it creamier and I feel like it detracted from the flavor. Service was timely, I felt like our bartender, Jose P., was very conscious of the fact we were going to the show and got us out efficiently. All in all a very satisfying quick trip. read more

We were going to a show at the Goodman and got there early, so we decided to have a drink at Petterino's....we were graciously welcomed by our bartender Izzy and were able to choose a nice pub table by an open window with a beautiful breeze. We had planned on having dinner at another Italian restaurant, and Jason happened - he introduced himself as the manager and brought over a menu for us to review. He was very informative and friendly....one look at the menu and I was sold! Jason set up the reservation for us after the show and was I happy we changed our plans. The food was terrific! I had the braised short rib dish and my husband had the seafood pasta. We started with a grilled calamari salad, which was to die for, but then the pasta came and we indulged....so, so wonderful. We even had a chance to meet the chef, Chef Monica and were able to let her know how wonderful everything else was. On top of that, the bartender Jesse (and Izzy) were right on top of their game and served exceptional drinks. Jackie, our service, was impeccable and so friendly.
