I get a call today from someone there stating that "whoever took my call Friday didn't know what she was talking about and that she was new to their staff so it was a mistake and that they DO NOT take any cases with ANY LARGE BREED DOGS!?!? Uhmmmmm..... if she works there any schedules them how did she not know? I even asked before we made the appt I specifically asked her if him being a large breed would affect the appt.... She went on to tell me no no it's okay we see large breeds all the time! SOOOO THERE FORE either they just didn't want to put any effort into my dog or they just don't care and I'm sorry but if you ask me or anyone else I called THREE OTHER VETS AND NONE OF THEM HAVE EVER HEARD OF A DOG BEING REJECTED DUE TO HIS SIZE!!!!!! My little pretty kitty Mitzi has been losing weight steadily over the past several months and during her last visit to her regular vet (Bloomfield Cat Clinic), the Dr. thought he may have felt a swelling in her abdomen. He recommended an ultrasound at one of many local vet hospitals. I called around to several and either found little availability, or an expense that seemed to be off the charts - until I happened upon the Allegheny North Veterinary Hospital courtesy of my good friend Google. The women who answered the phone was kind, quick and helpful, unlikely a few of the others I called, who could barely muster an estimate for the procedure and seemed put off at the question all together. She apologized that the doctor was due out of town for a few days, but was nice enough to get me in as soon as possible upon his return. Off we went this morning and were greeted by the same woman +1, and the same level of kindness and service. Dr. Gaiser gave Mitzi a full exam and agreed that he felt a swelling. He took her swiftly into the adjoining room for an ultrasound, where she emerged 30 minutes later. He brought me in a short time later and took me through the results step by step. It didn't hurt that Dr. Gaiser is a dead ringer for a [much younger version of] Tom from Cougar Town, and his bedside manner was stellar, especially given that the news wasn't great. As we wrapped up the appointment I inquired about a particular type of food I saw for sale in the waiting room. The same food my vet sells for $4.25/can was a mere $2.25/can at Allegheny North. With the purchase of four cans plus an ultrasound, full exam and biopsy of Mitzi's liver, my bill came in under $400. PLUS, they take Pet Assure, which is a discount program you can usually get through Living Social that pays for itself in one visit. All in all, 5 stars for service, 5 stars for expertise and 5 stars for price. I'd rather not go back to a veterinary hospital (for obvious reasons), but if I must, Allegheny North is where I'll go.

The vet said our cat's teeth were fine and to "monitor" them. This year we took our cat back and the vet says they need ALL of their canines removed! And quoted over $1000! We've paid for every visit and barely get a discount with pet insurance as well. We called around to get other estimates and are going to North Boro instead for half of the price and they advised our cat had missing teeth as well, which this vet never told us. Be sure to advocate for your pet and avoid this negligence. Two stars for them being very friendly at the beginning.

The X-ray told the whole story about the cat's condition. Dr. Maria Santabene walked me through the prognosis and I made the painful decision to end T.C. Greyson's suffering. The staff was very compassionate and helpful at every step in the process. TC went peacefully and I opted to bring him home to rest near the garden shed in the shade of a tree. VCA provided a very nice bio-degradable bag. Dr. Santabene is not only a rare gem but she is our new vet and our remaining two cats are in good hands.

I took my cat Nika to VCA Wexford Animal Hospital two times. I made an appointment for a…read morenew-patient exam, and then I made an appointment with a vet tech for blood tests. I would prefer that this animal hospital have more evening and weekend hours, but we did get evening or Friday appointments that worked for us. For both appointments, the front staff quickly checked us in, and we used the separate waiting area for cats. The vet techs started our appointments on time. I appreciated that they had familiarized themselves with my cat's previous medical records. For the first appointment, the veterinarian arrived several minutes late, but she was very knowledgeable and nice (even after my cat when being palpated peed on the table!). She did a physical exam on Nika, and we discussed Nika's history of kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, anemia, and UTIs. The vet said that many kidney-disease cats need longer than 2 weeks of antibiotics, which is true and something that my previous veterinarians never said. She recommended a supplement to prevent UTIs. Later, another veterinarian here promptly ordered a refill for a thyroid medication for Nika. Employees at the front desk promptly rang up the fees for the exam, supplement, blood tests, and fecal test. I thought that the prices were OK. A few days later, Dr. Santabene called me about the test results. We spoke for about 16 minutes, and she communicated very thoroughly and politely. Nika's kidney labs were much worse than before, so we increased her lactated ringers (LR) and added a phosphate binder that was ready for pickup hours later. For my upcoming international vacation, Dr. Santabene was still willing to keep Nika at VCA Wexford's pet hotel where the vet techs would administer 100 mLs of lactated ringers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and 150 mLs on Mondays and Fridays (because vet techs do not work on weekends). The employees at the pet hotel took a while to tell me accurate prices, but the final estimate was $1,324.30 - $1,374.30 (which included $344 for 10 fluid therapies, $86 for 10 biohazard waste disposals, $244 for 10 technician office visits, and $650-700 for 13-14 nights in a nice-looking feline boarding condo). However, days later Nika began to show serious symptoms, so I had her euthanized by a different veterinarian. Weeks later Dr. Santabene mailed a handwritten sympathy card to me. For my next pet who has a medical diagnosis, I will probably bring her/him here, because I think that Dr. Santabene has knowledge and empathy that many other vets lack.
