We have been coming to Rocky Point for the past five years, and have exclusively stayed at the Sonoran Sky Resort. We chose this resort specifically for the heated bar pool, which is the only comfortable swimming option year-round. However, after this experience, we will not be returning here. We traveled here with our 2 year old son and are currently expecting another baby. The heated pool is a necessity for us, as young children cannot safely regulate their body temperature in the other "upper" pools, which are unheated, frigidly cold and not surprisingly almost always empty. In all our years coming here, children and adults have coexisted in the heated lower pool without issue. There was never a "nuisance" problem. This year, as my toddler was about to get in, we were stopped by security and told he wasn't allowed. The only sign posted states that children under 3 must wear a swim diaper. Our son was wearing one. When my husband addressed this with management, he was told it is a "new rule" that children are banned from the only heated pool on the property. Telling a family with a toddler (and soon an infant) to use the unheated pools is dismissive and medically soundless. Next year, when we have a 6 month old, we won't be able to use any pool on the property because the resort refuses to heat the family-accessible areas. This arbitrary rule has effectively ruined our vacation. If you are traveling with small children who need a comfortable water temperature, do not stay here. Sonoran Sky has made it clear that they no longer value families here. We will be taking our business elsewhere in the future. read more

The two of us (60-somethings) have stayed at SS about 6x over the years, and give this a solid 4, sometimes a 4.5. The reason for the variation is each condo has the basic same excellent quality amenities, but some things vary in small ways. We always book a two-bedroom/two bath. The Great?: The AC/Heat. The Kitchen Appliances. Washer/Dryer. The View (see the ocean and port, but not the neighbors). The proximity to the Beach and Pools. The Food at La Cantina (American Bar Food) and Cielito Lindo (elevated Mexican, but not stuffy). The Security. The Parking. The Convenience Store. The speed of Check-In and Out. Bathroom Amenities and Towels. Water Pressure and Temperature. SS' Location is between Puerto Peñasco and Cholla Bay. The Elevators. The two Pools and Jacuzzi. The Variable?: WiFi speed and availability (but mostly good). Cable (All have DirecTV: owner decides the package and sometimes only 3 channels come in. The Furniture. Ceiling Fans functionality. Bed Comfort. Pillow Supply. Gym Equipment functionality. The two things that may be a dealbreaker for some would be the loud music played during the day, and the long stairs/ramp down to the food and beverage (besides the lobby snack shop). There is no elevator down to the restaurant. 5 nights/$1700 out the door. We really like it here which is why we always return. read more

Giving this a Mexican 5-star review. I've stayed at a several resorts in Mexico and this place is great! Very family friendly. Spring break was busy enough to keep the bar open all day. Can I get a haillllll yeaaaa! Swim up bar pool water was delightfully warm. Several pools for both children and adults. Shade canopy available for rental including set up/take down, and chairs. Unfortunately our guy bailed on us and we are on day two with no canopy. Fortunately, our room had a small umbrella and chairs, so we've been using that & bumming shade off others. Our room has been amazing! Updated furniture, clean, and stocked with everything we could possibly need. I packed extra laundry detergent and such and it wasn't necessary. Yesterday the cleaning lady stopped by to pick up our trash and deliver extra laundry detergent, dishwasher pack, TP & paper towel. They don't do cleaning (unless you pay extra) but the room has brooms and tile vacuum for personal use. Beware, each room is stocked differently. Resort gym is not the nicest and my boyfriend made the comment that the weights were likely found on the side of the road, butttt, it gets the job done and has a beautiful view of the ocean. I'm not complaining. Any gym that lets in ocean breeze is going to have some rusty equipment and I'm perfectly okay with that. read more

Honestly we are very disappointed with this resort. We rented through Airbnb and were told we could check in at 3. When we got here they said we could not because they were doing repairs so they checked us in at 4 (no big deal) we were a group of women with kids. After check in 4 male employees followed us saying they had "repairs" like changing lightbulbs, it was really uncomfortable we asked them to leave. Outside the security guards were incredibly rude continuously harassing us asking for our wristbands. One night a female employee was ringing the door bell at 11pm, we didn't open the door but it made us feel extremely uneasy. The last night they called us after 11pm we were asleep and said we had to go downstairs for an "unpaid bill" I think the fuck not! In the morning I asked about that and they had no clue what I was talking about! it was a weird experience. The resort and view are nice, but the staff is a joke. Seriously felt uneasy and a little scared most of the time. I'm giving it 1 star for the view.. read more

For the past 8 years my family and I have been vacation at Sonoran Sky Resort. We have always stayed in a 4 bedroom condo, fully furnished and equipped with all the amenities your family needs. (Fully stocked kitchen, laundry room, internet, tv's, etc) The best rooms are perfect size most have their own restrooms. The resort itself has a lot to offer. Four pools: kids pool, normal pool, pool with slide and swim up bar. There are two restaurants located on the site. A fully stocked sports bar and a sit down dinning are (fancy) BOTH race VERY good! Last it's very safe, security is on it! They are very careful with who and what comes in and out of the resort. Lastly they are quick to fix any damages or problems associated with your room. Been staying here for years! We absolutely love it here! We have always had a clean unit (stayed in various ones). Never had an issue. Last year our AC was leaking and they were on top of it! Friendly service, good food, lovely times!!! We love the atmosphere with it being a smaller condo resort. Not a ton of walking to get to the pool or beach!! read more

It's Mexican Luxury for sure!!! The spouse was skeptical bBecause of media. Due to that we did not really spend much time in the city. The staff and bartenders are amazing and at no time did we ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe during our stay. Like any other resort there are rules and when followed you are not confronted by the big huge security guards ;) beach was clean and beautiful!! I cannot say enough great things about the bartenders! Both Hector and Isaac kept our drinks flowing at the swim up bar. We stayed in a condo rented from VRBO which was quite comfortable so we did not have daily housekeeping. Each morning we saw many ladies mopping outside of our door -it's was a lot of mopping and they did it daily the place is very clean the bathrooms were clean the gift shop was open early and had ice and other small things you might need in the kitchen. We rented a condo from Vrbo and it was wonderful. The resort, however, is not very well run. 1-the restaurants and bars do not have regular hours. Even the front desk employees don't know when anything is or will be open. Further the food is just not all that. We had guacamole and chips one night. The guac was definitely processed with chopped onion and tomato sprinkled on it and the chips were out of a bag and stale. My husband had a burger that did not taste like beef. In general, the Mexican breakfast seemed to be better than American breakfast. 2-there are a number of pools but only 2 appeared to be open. One was very cold (unbeaten) and the other was very hot, hot like a spa. 3-I went to ask the Concierge a question about snorkeling and he told me his job was only to talk to people about weddings. 4-one of the days they closed the swim up bar at 3:00, the busiest time of day. read more

Spent a week at Sonoran Sky, room 109. The details of the room indicated that it was handicapped accessible; it is not! The doors to two of the three bathrooms were not wide enough for a wheelchair to fit, the shower did not accommodate a wheelchair, and there was no shower chair. Additionally, the toilet is not ADA compatible height. There were 3 rolls of toilet paper, 1/4 roll of paper towels - for 7 days, the bath towels were old, no bath mats outside the showers, and only one of the four TV's worked. The freezer in the fridge was leaking water into the fridge. If none of the above are important to you, the easy access to the pool and beach was nice. There is handicap parking right outside the room, if you get their early in the day. read more

Very well maintained property. Extremely clean with friendly staff. But If you are going down for a peaceful visit to the ocean, STAY AWAY FROM SONORAN SKY. Most of the rooms are overpriced plus all kinds of fees and taxes. You can do better at many other properties. Big issue with the Sky is the extremely loud noise/music? from their beachfront Tiki Bar. It sits right in front of the hotel and the music runs from about 9am until 7 pm. You can easily hear the noise from a good quarter mile away, if you are walking the beach, so you can imagine sitting on your beachfront patio. If you like all day noise, great place to get drunk and hang in the pool all day. read more

My family and I went to stay here over the weekend, and I was nowhere near pleased with my experience here. The condo I stayed at had a broken window, broken chair, and leaking shower handle. One of my biggest issues was towel usage. They act like they were Ralph Lauren towels. I was charged $50 for 2 ugly towels just because one was a little stained from hair dye. I have to say that I am very disappointed with Sonora Sky resort, especially for it being so new. We spent $1200 for a few days in a four bed room apartment. Our jacuzzi did not work for a couple of days and never heated the water, hence we never used it. On the first day the water heater was off so I had to take a cold shower (I was not happy with that). The water heaters breaker was off. The electric stove was very worn and was a hassle using. I reported the findings to the reception at the resort and all they say was "sorry for that" and continued with there duties........ Dont get me wrong, I do not want to discourage anyone from vacationing in Puerto Pinasco (Rocky Point) I am just recommending that you DO not stay at the Sonora Sky! read more

DON'T STAY HERE! Visited 8/9/2019 for 4 nights. The surrounding area is amazing with beautiful beach views, cool ocean breeze, and plenty of sun to keep your tan on point. However, here at the Sonoran Sky Resort the security staff and beach patrol guy was RUDE and tried to extort my family for cash for grilling on the beach. We tried to grill in their designated bbq patio area and they harassed us non stop in the middle of the day for no apparent reason. We got scolded for tossing a football back and forth in the pool. They follow you around like you're little kids not doing anything wrong. Just for enjoying yourselves and having a good time. Will I go back to Puerto Peñasco, YES, without a doubt. But, will I stay here, NEVER AGAIN! If I could give negative stars, I would give negative 5. Save yourself the drama and look elsewhere. Good luck... read more

So, the resort it self is beautiful. However, when we went to enjoy the ADULT pool on our first day ( remind you we rented the 4 bdrm penthouse) #1 we had a ton of children jumping in w floaters, toys and diapers as the parents drank at the bar #2 after we ordered a ton of food at the POOL BAR we were told we could not eat up at the bar but back at our chairs. Understandably we did, then a few minutes later a very RIDE security guard named MARCO came up and told us to move, when we asked why he said NO GET OUT! As a mom I asked why we are being told this after ordering $200+ food , this security guard then proceeds to threaten us by first asking our room#, then to my Son said "you better watch it" and 30 minutes later as we walked by after packing up Salida "good luck to you". A threat to a US CITIZEN IN MEXICO. Unbelievable. Gong to corporate for this and not going to sign on my closing at what I thought would be a vacation home in the Sonoran Sky. read more

The security is very rude and made our family feel mistreated and discriminated if we where at the pool they had a problem if we where at the bbq area there was a problem. Second year visiting this place and will definitely be our last. The rooms are very nice however in speaking to people in my group (20 of us) I found we all shared the same complaint, some of the amenities didn't work. Most of the staff is rude or give you dirty looks especially the security staff. Everywhere we went they would follow and they had a problem if we did anything. We weren't allowed to bbq on the property in the designated area even after staff told us we could. We attempted to bbq on the beach because the staff said we could, well that was a big mistake. Police were called and we were fined. We were traveling with elderly people and kids. Are plans were to relax and enjoy the beach. We in no way were being destructive or loud. This place is definitely not family friendly nor tourist friendly. Save your money and time look elsewhere! read more

PLEASE READ THIS...I was at the sonoran sky this past weekend. The resort itself and view there are outstanding! However, the security staff gets a 1* because that is the lowest rating available. They act like they own the place. Specifically, the security guard "in charge." I dont know his name but its the guy that walks around wearing a black polo shirt/ tan pants. He scolded us for playing with a football in the pool. Then tried to extort us for $300 for bbq'ing on the beach. The real Mexican cops eventually showed up and they told us the resort security and the beach patrol guy are working together to tax people . If they try to charge you or extort you for some nonsense rule they made up on the fly, dont pay them! Tell them you will be reporting them to the resort management. On Sunday, the same security guard yelled at a male resort guest for wearing a tshirt while in the pool with his family. The security guard made him leave the pool and threatened to evict him. There is absolutely no reason why resort guests should be treated like that after paying a couple thousand dollars to stay there for vacation. I will definitely go back to Puerto Peñasco but never again to the Sonoran Sky/ Sun resorts. Two thumbs down and ZERO stars. read more

The whole experience itself was amazing the beach is beautiful and it's definitely worth the drive! This was our first time in Puerto Peñasco and the view was gorgeous! The only reason I'm giving a one star review is because of all the employees in Sonoran sky, not one person was friendly there, they talk to us like we are stupid, when we got to our room 1502 the refrigerator was broken from a handle and it wasn't getting cold when we brought it up to the lady in the front desk she said "well don't open in from the handle use the sides" also the dishwasher was never used and water was overflowing from it when we called the front desk they said they will send someone to fix it and an hour later they came up and they just took the water out didn't even bother to fix it! Most of the appliances did NOT work! And when we tried to use the grill outside it also did not work when we brought it up to them they said that " it wasn't allowed" the next day we could see someone from the pool to the balcony grilling! They just LIE!!!!! And to top it all off THEY WERE ACCUSING US OF SOMETHING WE DIDNT EVEN DO!!!!!!!! first of all we were their with our kids and family second we have never done shit like that!! All because we were next to the people that left all that and apparently they asume we were with them!!!!! WE TRAVELED SO FAR TO BE TREATED LIKE SHIT!!!! Never again will I stay their again! I've been going with my family for 3 years, every time we go there are minor things but ALWAYS SOMETHING! See we are Mexican American so when we are in Mexico we speak Spanish, so apparently for Sonoran Sky that is a bad thing! We just went for labor day weekend and will not be going for a 4th time. Again we are pretty friendly and understanding that everyone has hard days at work but this year was worst than other years and we reached our limit. From the moment we checked in they are just rude nit-picking on every little thing including how different you do your signature. Once we received the condo (309), it wasn't the one we reserved. The bedroom didn't have the bunk beds that showed on the pictures, the refrigerator wouldn't get cold and the showers were so hard/hot you had to shower fast. Again, we didn't want to call the front desk because they are so rude so we stuck it out. The first day we go to the pool, the security guard "Marcos" started telling us no ice coolers (even though there were ice coolers next to the pool) according to them only owners can take them because they make the rules. Fine we took the ice cooler back to the condo. Not 10 minutes later another guy tells us you can't have fruit/food in the pool bar, only peanuts and chips, we understood and took it out. 10 minutes after that, the people next to us in the pool are eating and passing food across the pool and nothing happens to them because they are "owners." Fast forward 15 minutes later we have the same peanuts and we move them so they won't get wet, here comes "Marcos" and yells at us telling us "I saw you put a peanut in your mouth" ugh by this time we were so upset! we told him the other security guard told us we could have them there. We called a manager because at that point we felt we were just being focused on and there were people smoking in the pool even though there was a clear sign stating you couldn't in the pool area! We told the guys we were going to adhere to every rule they had for us, but please just to leave us alone I mean we are in vacation we just want to enjoy our time. This guy "Marcos" is so rude and arrogant even after all that he would pass by and checked us to make sure we were not doing anything "bad." We honestly did feel harassed, we will no longer be accepting this behavior from them. If anything if we continue to lease their condos they will continue treating people this way. We stayed here with friends 3 years ago and had a great time. Made reservations this time and had to change from a 2 to a 3 bedroom suite and the reservation clerk was very helpful. Went this time , april of 2018, and were very disappointed. The place wasn't even half full so word must be getting around how much it's going downhill. No upkeep or maintenance is being done, just basic cleaning. The furniture is nearly worn out, master bathroom flooded when showering, 3 bed/3 bath for 5 adults and 3 kids on the sofa beds and they left 1 roll of toilet paper in each bathroom for 3 days. The day after we checked in they stopped the second half of our party as they arrived saying they could visit us but not stay as we needed to pay more money as the kids were all 12 or older. Never mind that 3 of the people weren't there the first night but we still had to pay for them. I will point out the manager was fighting with my wife and guests that are all Mexican but when I showed up with the reservation form showing I had disclosed all ages and he was nice to me (I'm white). I've heard resorts down there like white American guests but not Hispanic guests from the US so I'm not sure what that's all about. The drink prices at the bar have also gotten pretty high. On a positive note, the working employees were courteous and helpful. But we don't plan on repeating, we'll try a different place next time. read more

DONT STAY HERE.. We planned another family trip this year and stayed at this hotel last year with really no big issues but OMG we stayed this past weekend and it was horrible. First security is watching and following you like your a criminal. You can't take your own bbq to the designated area they make you go and buy charcoal even if it's windy AF. Then now all of a sudden you can't bbq on the beach and that's not posted anywhere. You have the hotel security and beach security harassing you and trying to extort you for money to pay the "fines"!! I'm sorry if this ever happens to U don't pay these fines they are full of s&$t let them call the cops... Then you can't have fun at the pool because someone might complain but mind u no one was complaining and everyone in the pool at the time was with us or the ones that weren't joined us We pay to much money to stay at a place that harasses us and tries to tell us they are going to kick us out.. for what "having a good time"! And we watched "the head of security " talk shit to another man who was in the pool with his kids. Who he eventually left because of the issue. That wanna be cop is rude and VERY disrespectful I hope the owners read all these reviews and get rid of him and a few more... I wish I would of read the yelp reviews before I booked here this year.. DO NOT STAY HERE. I have stayed in this resort 1 other time out of my numerous Rocky Point visits, we usually stay at Las Paloma's, this go around will be our last stay ever at any Sonoran "sky, sun or sea etc" resort. We were discriminated against immediately because apparently the condo we rented is known to be a place where the owners are typically pretty rowdy and the management (Marcos & his security guard Victor) are a joke. They called the resort owners at 1 AM saying that we were in the pool, which one of our guests that did get in and got right back out, big deal. The next day we spilt a beer on the outside patio, so we used the hose to hose it off and the next thing we know security is outside the door saying we are being kicked out, because of the pool incident....come to find out the management also told the condo owners that we damaged a beach hut, news to us. I would have liked to been informed of this so we could have defended ourselves, since we were intoxicated and couldn't drive home that night, the owners were "gracious" enough to let us stay until the morning, wow, I'm so glad we payed hundreds of dollars (over $600) to drive to another country and be told to leave the next morning. The security guard also told us that we had "Trump" attitudes, and bragged about getting other vacationers kicked out the week before, so just do yourself a favor, and stay somewhere else.
