I finally popped in here after hearing about Pharaoh's for years. I came late morning, so a lot of the selection was sold out. I just wanted a sweet treat, so I only needed one. If you want a large amount, get there early! I grabbed a vanilla donut with sprinkles and it was delicious. I'm really simple when it comes to sweets, and it definitely hit the nail on the head. So I haven't actually been to pharaoh donuts. However, somebody at work brought in a couple dozen this morning. He had a box of mixed and a box of glazed donuts. I had one of the glazed donuts and I have to tell you it was the best glazed doughnut I've had in my entire life. Buttery and soft and I'll be dreaming of these donuts and the nice thing is they are just inside St. Louis but they do close early in the afternoon. I wish they had longer hours, but that's OK. Yoooooo. Yall know donuts are my LIFE. I'm so happy to finally get around to trying Pharoah's donuts. I got 2 vanilla sprinkle donuts for my daughters. They were so delicious, soft and perfectly sweet. I have been back twice since then. They are a little pricey. I spent six dollars on two donuts. OMG! Best donuts I have ever had, hands down. In an era when the Dunkin Donut has shrunk and it takes three or four to feel full, Pharaohs is bucking the trend. I walked to the small location in the Central West End. Parking looked limited. They bring the donuts in from another location but they were still warm when I got them! Can't recall if any seating inside but there are sidewalk benches on the street outside. Easy to walk or drive past the small and unassuming storefront so keep your eyes peeled. The ascetic of Pharoahs Donut is not much. They can do much better to make it more appealing. They don't have any decor. The service was nice. There was only one staff member present. I placed an order with them on Too Good To Go with a pick up between 2:30-3 and when I arrived shortly after 2:30 the business was closed.

One of my friends loves this donut place and says it's one of her favorites in Saint Louis so I decided to give it a try! It's a small hole in the wall donut shop in the Central West End (kind of discreetly tucked away into a corner). Inexpensive and no frills. I like the glazed ones' texture! Pharaoh's has become a household staple given how reliable the quality is and how well-priced everything is. It's so easy to overlook it on a walkabout in Maryland Plaza because it's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, but it's definitely worth checking out. Service was quick and good. They've got all the classics and some fun ones that seem to be on rotation/based on season. The classics are as you'd expect them to be. Some of my favorites that I've tried are the cinnamon roll one (the perfect combination between a light, glazed donut and the flavors and swirl of a cinnamon roll) and the apple fritter (just such a solid pick with flavor and texture). They close pretty early and can run out every so often, so it's recommended to grab your donuts earlier in the day if possible! read more

I've been to this donut shop several times. I've usually had the chocolate long johns. Each time I've had them, they are very messy to try and eat and the paper is wrapped around the chocolate side so that when you try and pull it off it removes a lot of the chocolate. The chocolate that is on the long john seems to have a more finely granulated sugar texture. In other words, it's not a smooth type of chocolate. It also doesn't seem to have a very chocolatey flavor to me. I won't say that their donuts are bad. It's just that I guess I prefer a different type of donut. The service is always been prompt and polite. As far as the interior of the shop goes, it's fairly plain with one main glass case with the donuts displayed. read more

*It's true. I didn't believe it, but it's true. This is the best donut in the country! I've lived in this city for 5 years and I've never been here because there is another donut shop much closer to me that is fabulous and I've always thought, how much better could Pharoah's really be to warrant an additional 15minute drive. Well friends, the raves about this place are all warranted and I have been taught my lesson - I just didn't know what a fabulous donut was until now! Their yeast donuts have the perfect mixture of fluff and chew, you get just the slighted hit of of fried goodness, the glaze is sweet with out being overwhelming - though you need a napkin handy like all good donuts. In fact, I've always hated long johns - if you're going to give me THAT much donut it should be filled with custard or jelly, but not here. Their frosting has real flavor and their dough is so good I could eat a donut without frosting and be happy. I now like long johns....but only at Pharaohs. Their Boston Cream was right on with real custard not weird frosting in the middle and their jelly donut was somehow still the weird confectionary jelly but better than what the other places use. They also don't overfill, which I appreciate. Their cake donuts - perfection. There are an unbelievable amount of donut shops in this town, some of which I would give you side eye for bringing to my home, but many of which I'd be happy for. After all - it's hard screw up fried dough and sugar glaze. But screwing up and mastering are two different things and Pharoah's has mastered the donut in a way that in my 40 years of life I had no idea you could. This is the best donut I've had in the country. Unknowingly buying a home far away from this bakery was the best thing the universe has ever done for me because I'm already fearing for my health and waistline now that I know I'm living in the same city as the best donut in America. read more

Don't expect frills, but do expect yummy donuts and friendly service at this dive doughnut shop. Parking is off street by meter. It's a very small store front you can easily drive by, I did. The area was clean. There is no dining in or tables or outside. It's carry out only. The selection was still pretty good at around 930 on a Sunday. There is a single smallish case. My kids got a few varieties. I got a blueberry cake type. The prices were a steal. We took our doughnuts over to another business across the street to enjoy. Love the location, love that it's black-owned, love the donuts, do not love the service. This has become our go-to donut spot because of the location, variety of donuts, and I always love supporting my people. The service has been wacky ~60% of the time I'm there. I almost always walk out with a dozen (or three) donuts, and it always feels like a bit more of an ordeal than it has to be. But still, the donuts are so dang good I keep going back anyway. The donuts are fantastic. Now I ain't going to lie. For a baker's dozen of donuts you're looking at $35-36 dollars IF you ask for a variety without specifying specific donuts. But I imagine it's at least slightly cheaper for, say, a box of 12 glazed. I'm speculating. I personally think $3 per donut is nuts, but the product is great and I love dictating where my money goes, vis-a-vis a family-owned black business. The parking is Maryland Plaza/Euclid parking, so it's only convenient between the hours of 6:00am and 8:30am. But the service is very friendly. Two thumbs up. read more
