The multi-level garden is the perfect spot to enjoy a flight or glass of wine! We ended our day of wine tasting in Canby and Aurora with a full glass of a bold Red at Pheasant Run. Located in "downtown" Aurora, a small, quaint town; it was the perfect place to end the day. A fan of big reds, which is not what Oregon wine is known for, Pheasant Run buys grapes from Walla Walla in addition to those they grow in Willamette Valley. The results are some bigger reds - Cabs, Merlot, blends - and very satisfying. Located in a historic bank on the edge of town, this tasting room is full of charm. Indoor seating was closed due to the new Covid-19 regulations, but we had always intended on sitting in the garden so it wasn't an issue at all. Carl, the owner, is very friendly and welcoming. Like most tasting rooms in the area, they waive two tasting fees if you purchase three bottles. That's a fantastic deal, especially because the wines are good and you want to enjoy them again! We are already planning another day in Canby and Aurora which is an easy 30 minute drive from Portland but has an atmosphere and scenery that transports you to a completely different place! Serene, beautiful and relaxing - like a mini vacation!

Blessed be the fruit (of the vine). May the bottle open! The covered, tree-shaded lawn was a welcome respite on a surprisingly hot and humid day. We ordered the current flight and were enamored enough with the Getaway Rosé and the Sommer Red to take a couple of bottles home. The owner was a friendly conversationalist who explained (in brief) the history of his tasting room and the colorful history of Aurora. Pheasant Run is conveniently located on a y-shaped corner next to the train tracks and the best of the local antique stores. A perfect home base from which to begin (or end) a day of antiquing.

The hanging baskets of petunias add a splash of vibrant color and help create a lovely setting. Just 35 minutes from Portland, it's a quick and easy escape from the City, immediately transporting you to a vastly different setting that makes you feel like you are hours away! The owner and winemaker, Chris, is super friendly and enthusiastic about making delicious and affordable wines. They offer several flight options and being a fan of reds, I chose the flight that was all red, varying from light to strong, finishing with a blend. Flights are between $12-15, which is so reasonable, and he waives the flight charge if you buy a bottle. We both loved the red blend so each bought the Reliable Red for $28. Running a restaurant or bar during Covid-19 with the ever changing restaurant laws is challenging. Having this outdoor covered space means you can still enjoy a glass of wine and the beauty of the vineyards while supporting a hardworking local business. Service was fantastic! We really enjoyed our time here and the wines. Definitely local grapes which means Pinots, and even though my preference is for big and bold, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the wines. In addition to the wine tasting, they have another structure for hosting weddings and events. One whole wall opens up which means it classifies for outdoor dining - so no worries about having to cancel if you plan an event here. We are really looking forward to coming back in a month or so when the weather is warmer, the vines are more mature and the flowers abundant. As we left, Chris gave us a map and recommendations for other wineries to visit, all that were already on our agenda which made us feel good about our choices. Thanks to the Yelpers and their reviews which put Whiskey Hill on my radar!

Thankfully, we made a Heritage Room reservation and were able to enjoy the outdoors under some umbrella shade. Two of us a wine tasting, 1 grabbed a glass of red, and the other was there for company and some N/A musings. We also had the charcuterie board and cookies, both of which were good overall. I absolutely adore this spot for having N/A options which on this day was an orange creamsicle inspired slush. Service was really accommodating...since I can be quite the slow sipper at times. They definitely did not make us feel rushed. This is such a picturesque spot and I couldn't help but adore the giant tree with the tire swing in the middle. People were absolutely trekking across the lawn to enjoy it. This is a rather family friendly winery and there were tons of families, a bridal shower, and just folks enjoying the day. High high points for an inclusive space. Check it out if you're looking for a cute winery to enjoy!
