As we're approaching a post-pandemic world, Pheasant Run seems to be settled back into its groove. During the winter months, there's plenty of room inside to enjoy a tasting, and the warmer weather brings opportunities for many more customers to sit outside, enjoying music and frequently a food cart in the garden out back. The owner and winemaker, Carl, is a gracious host, and it's always fun to see the new offerings being poured. Aurora is an easy drive from the Portland area - the combination of tasting wine and doing some antiquing makes for a delightful day trip. The multi-level garden is the perfect spot to enjoy a flight or glass of wine! We ended our day of wine tasting in Canby and Aurora with a full glass of a bold Red at Pheasant Run. Located in "downtown" Aurora, a small, quaint town; it was the perfect place to end the day. A fan of big reds, which is not what Oregon wine is known for, Pheasant Run buys grapes from Walla Walla in addition to those they grow in Willamette Valley. The results are some bigger reds - Cabs, Merlot, blends - and very satisfying. Located in a historic bank on the edge of town, this tasting room is full of charm. Indoor seating was closed due to the new Covid-19 regulations, but we had always intended on sitting in the garden so it wasn't an issue at all. Carl, the owner, is very friendly and welcoming. Like most tasting rooms in the area, they waive two tasting fees if you purchase three bottles. That's a fantastic deal, especially because the wines are good and you want to enjoy them again! We are already planning another day in Canby and Aurora which is an easy 30 minute drive from Portland but has an atmosphere and scenery that transports you to a completely different place! Blessed be the fruit (of the vine). May the bottle open! The covered, tree-shaded lawn was a welcome respite on a surprisingly hot and humid day. We ordered the current flight and were enamored enough with the Getaway Rosé and the Sommer Red to take a couple of bottles home. The owner was a friendly conversationalist who explained (in brief) the history of his tasting room and the colorful history of Aurora. Pheasant Run is conveniently located on a y-shaped corner next to the train tracks and the best of the local antique stores. A perfect home base from which to begin (or end) a day of antiquing. read more

Didn't find this place listed originally and was referred by a local. Wonderful reds! The wines were fantastic and the ambiance terrific too. The wine tasting room is in an old historic bank building. They have a red blend wine named Bank Robber, honoring a woman who worked at the bank and then robbed it to win her husband back (the wine was great!) The night we were there they had a singer out back who was terrific. It was a lovely way to enjoy a cool evening, drink some fine wine and enjoy a show. No fee to enjoy the show. We ordered a charcuterie board and it was excellent. A perfect complement to the wine tasting flight we got. Like most places in this region you pay a $10 tasting fee, which is waved if you buy wine. This place requires a 3 bottle purchase to waive the fee and we were only too happy to pay it. We got 2 bottles of their Cab reserve. We could age them (they're that good) but we probably won't . The winery owner was there and both people managing the tasting were knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of locals were there for the singer too and they were welcoming and friendly. What a WONDERFUL new addition to the charming town of Aurora!!! Not only are the new owners kind and warm to meet, they also have found a historic building, Aurora's original bank building, and are lovingly restoring it to its previous old day glory!!! Remember to look for the original windows being restored, the original flooring & BEAUTIFUL hand crafted wine bar made from wine barrels along with the stained, gnarled beauties of old vines behind the bar as decor. And if I'm not mistaken, this building was even used in Bruce Willis' film "Bandits" What a fantastic display! I also overheard they will be adding local artwork soon. Now for the best part, THE WINE of course! Carl (sorry if I didn't get the name right...bad with names) was very informative about the wines he served as it has been in his family. There is an obvious passion behind his words & behind his eyes! MY FAVORITES ~ Bank Vault Sangiovese & the Pheasant Run Chardonnay P.S. Being the only tasting room in Aurora, it's a good place to stop if you are nearby antiquing. The building itself is historic and beautiful, there is plenty of seating and the tasting fees are inexpensive. My husband and I dropped in and tasted the wine, munched on filberts and chatted with the owner. It was a nice experience, the wine was good, but not exciting enough to come to town just to visit the tasting room. We took a couple bottles home. read more

I'll be honest, I wasn't impressed. Their tasting room is quaint and while the hosts did a nice job the wine really wasn't all that. As the Pinot Noir was pretty flat with a wet finish which I'll be honest wasn't to my liking. That said, their reisling and pinot gri were pretty decent, but I was really underwhelmed by their reds which sort of dominates my rating. read more

It's nice to do tasting in an historic building in such a cute town. Great setting. The wines however, not so nice. The Cabernet blended by Tara was drinkable and washed out the foul aftertaste of the other wines before it. I would head to St. Joseph and skip this spot. The hardware store across the street is great so don't miss that. read more

The wine was really good! However.....they might need to visit some more professional wineries to learn a thing or two. The tasting flights are $5 each, a standard and very good price for a tasting. There ate two things that stuck out. First, the size of the tastings, we received beautiful maybe red wine glasses, fairly standard, but the pours were only about half an ounce rather than the standard one or two ounce pour that most tasting rooms will give. Second was the bill. I liked the wines and decided that I wanted to buy some. Most tasting rooms will comp your tasting when you buy a bottle of wine. But this place charged us for our three tastings after buying two bottles of wine for almost $40! While the wine was good, it left me wanting more and a bad taste in my mouth for if I go in again. read more

Cool old bank tasting room. $5.00 tasting fee. Server knew next to nothing about the wines. Could not recommend an order to taste wines. Insulted my wife when she did not like their most popular wine. Started by using a rag to clean my wife's glass, then poured the wine from the dirty glass into another glass. I have been to the Tasting room a few times now, always with a great experience. They have a number of wines, but I am a fan of the Bank Robber Red, which is their blend, and the Cabernet. The tasting room is cozy with a fun back story, and it fits in with the community of Aurora, being in the old bank building. I recently purchased a coupon to go back, I'm sure I will purchase more wine, hopefully they will have more of the 07 Cab. read more

Interesting place, the building is an old building from around the turn of the century. Deone was great and a very fun person with a great friendly personality. Took a chance and while in the area, decided to stop in and try some of the wines. To my husband's surprise, there was. It one he didn't like. While he leans towards the sweeter wines, he found the bold reds quite nice with a smooth finish. Walked out with a nice variety and decided to join the wine club.
