Ive been looking for a new nail salon to go to and ive recently got into cat eye. I was walking by Phenomenails one morning and saw from their front door they had many more varities of cat eye colors that most places rarely have. Luckily i was able to do a walk in appointment as they werent too busy. But got busy right at the tail end of my session. I did a walk in on early friday afternoon and had a very specific design and color i wanted. This place had the color but i needed to confirm if they could do the deaign. The technician did a fantastic job catering to my needs and even explaining why they did what they did. On top of selecting this color, they mentioned they wanted to apply another colored coating so that the pink color cat eye i selected will be more aparrant when they finish. The golden heart was the dexor i wanted and they nailed it (pun intended)! It's been so long since ive been so happy with a session. I get compliments everywhere i go. I look forward to coming back for another session!!

Before arriving I made an appointment. I kept seeing Kevin's name throughout the reviews, so I figured ai better play it safe and book him. It was weird from the beginning. The woman who answered the phone sounded as if she had just awoken from a coma and when I made the appointment with her, she didn't even ask for my name. I literally had to ask, "do you need my name?". Anywho, upon arriving, it was a ghost town. Literally. I was shocked they had no customers on a Saturday afternoon. Again, weird. I've never known a good nail salon to have zero customers. I saw one man and one woman doing the nails of a mother and child. I assumed the man was Kevin, so I asked, "how long?". They informed me that "he" would be down soon. Immediately, he basically stomped over and pointed me to his station. He didn't say hello, smile, nothing. He grunted as if I was impeding on his nap or something. I tried to lighten the mood, "I read all about you on Yelp". Nothing. Then I asked, "are you having a good day?". He responds by saying, "yes. Thank you." At this point, I was honestly thinking that I needed to get up and walk out. But being new to the area, I only read about one other salon, that has decent reviews. Additionally, it was already 4PM, and i couldn't risk not being able to get my nails done. So I sat there. I told him what I wanted and he got started. Again, he didn't speak. At all. And it wasn't in the way where a person is just tired and doesn't feel like speaking. And I say this from experience, because I'm introverted. No, he legit acted as if he had an attitude and my being there was bothering him. But one small miracle: I was done in an hour. Great! Let me get the f*** outta here. I paid and took my black behind out. My nails are okay. Not great. But honestly, a lot better than what I was dealing with, I wont even front. Would I return? Hell no. I will take my money elsewhere.

I There was a guy who did my nails and from start to finish it was awful. He was rude, rough and not friendly to me or anyone else that walked in. I have been getting my nails done for a very long time and know how to ask for what I wan (nude pink base with a thick deep French tip). Not only was the color choices wrong every time he showed me a new color, he put three coats making it thick and said that it will make the color what I wanted. Then what did it for me was I asked for French tip and again I know how to ask for what I want. The first time wasn't thick enough, then the second time it wasn't shaped the way I wanted. He told me it wasn't gonna come out how I wanted because of the gel I got. That was the final straw for me. So I asked him to remove the polish from the one French tip nail he was doing and just paid for what was had. I will never step foot in this place again.

Three nails popped off in less than a week after getting them done :( Designs were nice and similar to the pictures i showed. I had an appointment at 1:30 but was told to wait which lasted 20 min from my reservation because they took in people before. Interactions weren't as friendly. I just wouldnt say it's worth it for what I paid for which was $70 which was originally going to be $80

I had a fabulous experience at Phenomenails! Called them mid afternoon after I got out of work unexpectedly early. They had openings so I was able to walk in and get a builder gel mani and regular pedi. The quality is excellent- they really took the time to do a great job. And the foot massage I got with the pedi was ahhhhmazing. I'm so happy with how my nails look. I've definitely found my neighborhood nail place.

An absolute 10/10 experience. Just like the name says, phenomenal experience! Truly. Came in on a Friday for 3:30 pm appointment for 2 pedicures and 1 mani & 1 dip mani. (took ~2 hours total for us both. the staff is very nice, the shop is clean, and the prices are great too! they do a great job, truly. if i lived in oakland, it would definitely be a go to spot.

Quick service, clean salon, but quality of work was mid. I was disappointed on Kevin's ombre design. I appreciate how it's powder and that my nails were shaped perfectly; however, the design could've been done better. Unless, they think it's unrealistic.

I have been coming to Phenomenails for maybe around a year or so since I've been living in this area of Oakland for around 3 years. There are a LOT of salons in the area, but none have been as consistent as Phenomenails in terms of quality of service and lasting power. I am a gel nail girl, and am fairly active with work as I type a lot and do some hand work for other physical activities. I've had some gel mani-pedis that have ended up chipping off easily, or peeling within the week of getting them done, but not so here! The staff is quick, efficient, and the music is never overbearing. They don't offer the most flamboyant styles or artsy nails, but for a solid manicure, whether it's a standard, gel, or dip-powder, they've always done a fantastic job.

I called 3 days in advance to make an appointment for 3 pedicures and manicures. They were able to accommodate us. We came and they were promptly ready for us. During our session, there were a lot of walk in and they told them to come back at a certain time to ensure they weren't rushing. So I really appreciated that. They took their time with my pedicure and manicure. I forgot who the manicurist's name but she was really patient with me and allowed me to change the color three time cause it didn't look good with my skin tone. The place is also really clean and it has a serene calm vibe to it. Will definitely come back here

How does this place have good reviews? Lol I've never had Gel X nails pop off in 5 hours until I came here! It's not on me since my last set lasted 3 weeks from another salon. The guy kept roughly yanking my arm to bring my hand closer and the blue light kept falling on my shoulder. As 3 nails popped off overnight I went back the next morning (had to cancel my plans) and they fixed it for me only to have 2 other ones pop off the same night, and the rest the following 2 days. Even worse while I was curing it under the lamp he got impatient and STARTED CUTTING HIS OWN NAILS in front of me with the same equipment!!! These must be fake reviews or a new owner cause ain't no way this place is 4.5 stars at the time of this review. When I called for a refund they kept trying to talk me back into returning a third time to get it fixed as if I had all the time in the world, knowing chances are they would pop off again. They only gave me a 50% refund initially and said they'd give me the rest of it if keeps happening (not surprisingly of course they kept coming out). That means if they miraculously didn't pop off they would've still been fine leaving me walking around with Frankenstein nails to keep 50% of the money. The salon itself just felt sticky and uncomfortably dirty too. Horrible experience!!

I called for a same-day fill appt. and I am glad they had availability. The reviews were pretty good and I did not want to go back to the shop I had been to previously on Lakeshore. The guy fixed the nails that were not uniformly shaped and did a great fill. I like the colors, though I originally wanted a nude pink instead of white polish. They are pretty well done, and will likely go back if I don't get my car back soon (f@$&?ng catalytic converter!). read more

I can't say enough good things! I believe it was Kevin who did my nails today. My friend and I both wanted a bunch of different and elaborate designs. Kevin made such quick work of it. He asked confirmation of each design every step of the way. At one point one of the nails didn't look how I wanted (the color I chose ended up looking bad next to the rest of my nails). Kevin, without hesitation, quickly changed the color/design only for it to get smudged with the top coat. Kevin had another appointment (my friend) and says, go sit down with my coworker and we'll fix it right now. I kept saying "no, it's okay, don't worry" and Kevin just let me know "no, we're going to fix it". I can't say enough how much I appreciate this team's attention to detail. As a shy, non-confrontational person it's so nice to have someone who proactively changes something/fixes something without me having to say it AND who doesn't make me feel bad about it. I cannot recommend this place enough!! Kevin is simply the best. I have been here twice and both times he hit it out the park. I showed him a picture and he executed, this last time he did dip nails! The price was 55, which is reasonable. Parking can be a little tough but not terrible. Go seen Kevin, I recommend calling before and booking him. read more

I showed up at a last minute appointment, in literally 15 mins, and they took me in for a classic mani pedi. The lady who gave me the pedicure did a great foot massage. Clean salon, comfy new-ish chairs. I'm not too sure about the brand of nail paint they use, but maybe I'm not with it. I'll go back for sure. read more

Was walking by when I spotted this new nail shop. I needed to kill time until traffic calmed down... the shop looked clean, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did! Was posted impressed with the intricate attn to detail and time tandem whilst doing dip offer, I was also skeptical however they did not disappoint!!! Nails lasted 4 plus weeks then I got one chip! All this time no chipped away tips ! Oh and cash or Venmo gets a no tax/fee where as with credit card there is a fee. read more

Attention to detail! I finally decided I didn't like how my nails turned out at another salon. They were lumpy and inconsistent looking. I gave this place a try and they came out exactly how I wanted them to. I got an overlay on my natural nails. They did a good job filling in my nails that had uneven shapes and my tech kept comparing my fingers to make sure they both looked the same. My acrylic isn't too thick and it's smooth all around. This cost me $55 before tip. Everyone was nice and they also take venmo. I will be glad to come back read more

I went to this salon for the first time this week. I got dip nails which I had never gotten before and the nail technician dipped my fingers directly into the powder color. It wasn't until talking with a friend later that I learned that this is a really unsanitary process. Other than that my nails looked good and I was happy with them but only 2 days after getting them done, I had a large chunk missing from my thumb nail and the tips of my nails were starting to chip on multiple nails. Now I am 4 days out from getting them done and they look like I got them done 4 WEEKS ago! Not a good experience with dip at this salon. read more

I love this place, I've been looking for a nail salon after moving that was close by. I've tried a few on Grand Ave and most of the time leave feeling slightly disappointed. Kevin did my nails and he was so meticulous and gentle, he took so much care and corrected the bulky acrylic I had previously done and shaped them how I wanted and even took some time to do my cuticles which have been overlooked by others. On top of that they have a great selection of colors and his family is very welcoming and nice too! All of the equipment is new and cared for. I will definitely be returning. This was hands down the greatest nail salon experience I have had since moving to the Bay Area. I didn't catch the name of my nail techs but my pedicure was done to perfection and so were my nails. I had come in for a fill (and a fix, because of a bad nail experience at a different salon) and the time and attention that was given to my nails was incredible. My new set came out looking a million times better, were perfectly shaped and the design I asked for was done beautifully. On top of the great service, it was a peaceful and relaxing environment. Got a dip manicure for the first time and a regular pedicure. AMAZING job, they both look great and I wasn't rushed. They have a ton of color options and some really unique ones too (not just pinks, reds, etc.). There are a lot of nails salons in the area but this is by far the best one I've been too and will be coming back. read more

Just wanna show love to my favorite salon. Always have a very relaxing time here, it's never super busy (I tend to go on week days). I've done dip, gel, full sets...every mani has been exactly what I've asked for. I do keep it pretty simple, usually just one color, but it's always clean and fast. I've had appointments with most of the techs who work there, but mostly with Kevin! I think he said he's been doing nails for 15 years?? It shows. Price feels reasonable. Don't sleep on this spot! read more

Loved my nails. They did dipping powder and it lasting so long and my nails were not damaged like they usually are with gel. My pedicure also lasted for 3 weeks and I only got regular polish. I will definitely be back! read more

1st time here and I will for sure be coming back for gel manicures/pedicures. I believe Tung did my nails and he is a perfectionist! He was super detail oriented and efficient. It took him about 40 min to finish my manicure. Not only that, but the inside is super clean. read more

Great nail salon. I had Tim do my nails and he did a great job. He has a very careful hand and made sure I was happy every step of the way. The only critique is that since they are a new salon they are still getting the vibe right. Ambiance was a little off because of music. Maybe this is a place where you bring headphones or read a quick article. I still highly recommend this place for the perfect nail job. read more

Had a very rude first time! I walked in to ask about a fill in and judging me by the color of my skin said " It's $60 I know it's really expensive. You might want to go somewhere else...." like WTF i didn't even utter the words that I couldn't pay for it nor showed any expression of shock! Just because of the color of my skin you think I cannot pay a measly $60!!! Do you know what I do and what the hell I make ! Not coming back to this racist salon!!!! read more

I'm used to private studios when I've gotten my lashes done in the past, but the building interior is so large, with high ceilings, that it doesn't matter that there are other people around. It gives Grecian vibes with these big ornate columns in the room. The aesthetics are cute and pretty in the shop too. I always appreciate the little touches in the bathroom.

I wish I had a more glamorous photo to share of my eyelash extensions but I decided to just take one now on a whim for this review. So this is what my lashes look like, straight out of bed, no brushing. This is it and it looks great. This photo is taken a couple days after a fill. Hayley is very good and I get the impression that she takes a lot of pride in her work. She's actually pretty fast given that she lashes almost every single lash, if not every single lash. I would know since I used to get "one to one" lashes with her. I am pretty particular about my extensions. And for me, her extensions last a long time. They still look really amazing at the end of 4 weeks. I also personally like them "not too long" since I also wear glasses and I like a mix of lashes. Hayley is really wonderful at what she does. I appreciate that she allows me to relax and sometimes even fall asleep during the fills. Even at 39 weeks pregnant with a giant belly, she offers these wedge pillows to make you more comfortable so you can lie on your side for the fills--which I think is very thoughtful and kind of her, especially because it seems like an inconvenience for her to be lashing at a weird angle. I actually have tried a few of the other technicians (Sandy and Daisy) and they are also very nice and good at what they do. Hayley is my favorite though so I will be getting my lashes done by her for as long as she is working! I've been with her for four years now. I highly recommend her. I'm sure she also provides other services that are wonderful, but I have yet to try them. Thanks Hayley!

The sugarer uses a single ball of sugar paste throughout the session, no double dipping, no wooden sticks, and no cloth strips to throw away. It's clean, efficient, and more environmentally friendly.
