What an overwhelmingly positive experience I had with Philadelphia Scooters. From reviewing options to answering simple questions to teaching me how to safely ride my new scoot, these guys are legit. I'm a single-speed city bike rider who wanted to reduce the amount I sweat during my work commute from South Philly to North Philly. The 50cc scooter I purchased is the perfect answer. While I agree with the Philly Scooters guys that I will outgrow this bike, it's the perfect introduction to city scooting. Rich was beyond helpful and extremely patient, especially during my test drive sitting in back and having a slight freak out during my first-ever ride. Sean went beyond expectation. A couple hours after leaving the store, I had a small issue with the scoot. Within minutes, Sean rode over to me, assessed and rectified the situation. I had an excellent experience with Philadelphia Scooters on E Passyunk. Firstly, I rescheduled numerous times due to weather and my genuine Buddy 50 needing a jump. One of the fellas even offered to come tow it for a nominal fee. Sean was very understanding about the need to reschedule and was polite when I finally showed up as promised. They also called me before moving forward with any additional work that was outside of our original discussion, which I really appreciated. My scooter was also available for pickup a day early! The Vitality I purchased from Larry (the owner) at Philly Scooters is $1/tank. Sometimes it takes $1.05. And that gets me around all week. Oh yea - and a scooter is the same price as the laptop you are reading this on. Every scooter I see in Philly is from Larry. Vespa's are overpriced and will not be found here. However, you can get that retro look, here too - and with more accessories and better color choice. I choice this place because they offered scooters that were more aggressive-looking than Roman Holiday Vespa's. And Larry threw in a free cover for me because I bought so much! Buyer beware!!! I don't usually leave negative reviews, especially for fun local companies because we need them to support positive recreational hobbies like scooting. That's why it pains me to say the purpose of this review is in the hope that they, Philadelphia Scooters (PS), see it and use it as an opportunity to learn and improve. Fast forward one year after purchasing new scooter from PS and factory recall issue came up. The supplier, Genuine Scooter Co., whom distributes the scooter was insanely helpful and made sure I was covered every step of the way. Genuine Scooter Co. paid for the tow to PS and back, coordinated the repair and were SUPER responsive. I 100% stand behind Genuine's service and very highly recommend them, but I did not get the same kind of care from Philly Scooters... by a long shot. The owner of Philly scooters was dismissive, rude and charged me for work that I did not authorize. My biggest complaint is that after Philly Scooters completed the factory recall repair, they continued unauthorized work on an unrelated issue without notifying me. I only found out when the owner emailed an invoice for the unauthorized work. Had I received a quick call from Philly Scooters, I would have said thanks, I'll take care of it myself. That phone call could have saved me $47.50. I was unable to connect with them after multiple attempts. I asked in an email reply to the unauthorized bill, why did he not call me first to tell me there was an issue or to request authorization for the work. It's been weeks and I still have not received a response. It may not be much to him, but it is to me. BTW, this is a pattern of miscommunication and lack of response from the owner. They have plenty of scooters to choose from and the staff are very knowledgeable, fun to talk to and super helpful. The guys on the floor are excellent! I don't give negative comments easily because they can affect a person's livelihood and well being. I just hope the owner understands that his customers rely on his company and aren't just a paycheck. If this review get a response from Philly Scooters, Cool and thank you!. I went in here with my girlfriend so she could get a helmet. Immediatly I was met by an uppity hipster. He was not very helpful, and talked down to us for not buying our helmets before we bought the bike. He scowled when I told him what kind of scooter I bought, and asked why we didnt come into the store before purchasing. I actually did, and their prices were extremely high. My GF wanted a half helmet, but was pressured by the hispter to get a "cool" 3/4. He pushed that if a motorcycler needs a full helmet, so do scooters.. true, but its not his call to make. PA doesnt have a helmet law. He shoudl have been happy we wanted to spend money in the store.He tried to sell me a helmet, which I did not want, and when I told him I had one orderd and in the mail, he scowled again at me and turned away to my gf. My husband and I have been customers of Philadelphia Scooters for a long time. He purchased his first scooter from them and has purchased two other scooters since. Initially, working with Philadelphia Scooters was great, and my husband referred four other customers to them. However, our last experience with Philadelphia Scooters was so bad that we would never refer anyone to them or buy a scooter there again. Less than four months after buying a 2008 Genuine Stella, we began to have serious issues, particularly with the engine stalling out. We took the scooter back to the shop and were refused service. First, we were told that our warranty was invalid because the scooter was slightly over 500 miles and we hadn't brought it in for its scheduled maintenance. While I agree that we had technically violated the warranty, one would think that a small local business with a pretty selective customer base -- and one that had sold a total of seven scooters through our patronage and references -- would overlook a minor technicality, especially when other shops in the city do. Philadelphia Scooters was not only firm about this but also rude and condescending. Then, after we agreed to pay the full cost of repairs, we were told that they did not have the parts we needed (which at this point, not knowing what the real problem was, were pretty basic parts) and that they weren't going to order them for us. Basically, they didn't want to work on the scooter period. My guess is that, because they get so much maintenance and repair business (hence the weeks to month long wait times), they feel that they can pick and choose what they'd like to do, based on what's convenient for them? However, to us it was pretty surprising considering that we bought the scooter from them and they're the only Genuine dealer in Philadelphia. After being sent on our way, we went to another Philadelphia scooter dealer, who managed to figure out the problem (faulty air valve), cut us a few deals after hearing about the raw one we got from Philadelphia Scooters, and helped us get in touch with Genuine about the bad scooter we'd been sold. Throughout this process, Philadelphia Scooters remained unresponsive when we needed their assistance and pretty much shut us out about the fact that, regardless of our warranty invalidation, the scooter was bad when they sold it to us. We will never go to or refer anyone to Philadelphia Scooters again. Not only were we treated unfairly, but we also found that the staff was rude, condescending, unhelpful and unresponsive as soon as there was a problem. This was ultimately a situation that was not their fault but Genuine's; however, the treatment we received there means that they will be the ones to lose our business. read more

Total 5 star operation. My man Dan Blank is a decent honest fellow for sure! And The bearded guy is always chipper. I didn't deal them out of business, but they worked with me and threw in the swag. It was a very good deal and easy to get! Happy to keep it local and in the hood. Had a small problem I probably should have found, but they fixed it straight away without making me feel like a fool. I bought new for the dealer support and am sure it will happen here so I am very satisfied on that front. Anyone who wants to complain about the folks at Phila. I got a new GTS 300 here. Aside from some kind of battery/alarm issue I am 100% happy with the buy and the service. These guys are a little strange, sort of rough around the edges. I've purchased two scooters over the years from Philly Scooters, and the team there has been great. I've had many service issues (just the scoot itself, not Philly Scooters' issue) and mods with my scoot, and Sean, Dan and Larry have always been super helpful and friendly. Where people may get frustrated is when they expect a scooter to work just like a car. Any scooter on the market will not be as reliable or well-made as the cheapest car, but these guys completely stand by their products and are wizards at fixing issues. They have been very fair on pricing and service turnover, and as long as you have reasonable expectations, you'll have a great experience here. I'm a smaller girl and they were trying to sell me something that was clearly too big for me. Thankfully that experience led me to find Philadelphia Scooters. I purchased a Stella 150cc a month ago. They told me head right over (as long as it was safe) and they would help me out. I waited all of 15 or 20 minutes and my tire was plugged and good as new! I'm completely new to the scooter world. I recently moved to Philly and decided to ditch the car and buy a scooter. So, I did a little research, flirted with Craigslist, and finally decided to go check out some dealerships. My first stop was Vespa of Philadelphia at the Piazza in Northern Liberties. When I first walked in the man who greeted me reminded me of a car salesman. He gave me very little "actual" information about the scooter but instead focused on deterring me from considering any other options. At one point he actually said "what do I have to do to get you to ride home on a scooter today?" He was hesitant to even write out the terms for me and muttered something about me not coming back. When comparing the pro's and con's of a Vespa vs. a less expensive Buddy, his only argument was that the Buddy was smaller, dinkier, and "not a Vespa." Unsatisfied with Vespa of Philadelphia, I decided to check out these smaller scooters at Philadelphia Scooters. As soon as I walked in, Sean greeted me and asked if I had any questions. I told him what I was looking for and he patiently answered all of my questions. Sean explained all the options available at his shop and was happy to give me pamphlets to take home in order to make an informed decision. When I finally decided to buy my scooter, Philadelphia Scooter was able to help me with financing and my loan was approved in less than a day. After purchasing my Buddy, these guys literally taught me how to ride the thing. I just got my learner's permit a few hours before-hand and I didn't even know how to use the throttle. I own a 2005 Vespa 200cc. I had gas pouring from my fuel tank onto my exhaust pipe. I visited the shop and explained the situation. They told me to bring it in and they would take a look at it on Sat., and I would most like get it back on Tuesday. They suggested I have it towed in. They totally discouraged me from riding it in, however, I rode it in anyway......bad decision but I made it! Once I got it there, they resolved the issue within a hour. After just completing my second scooter purchase from these guys I figured it was time for me to get off my butt and give them some public recognition. I've gone from knowing nothing about the scooter world to owning 2 different scooters in two months. Every single experience in the shop has been positive. From the initial "information gathering" to the return trips for more questions, to the first purchase, to the first engine break-in service, to the trade-in, to the second purchase. I bought a "getting around town" scooter from them around 2 months ago. To say that it served me well would be an understatement. In fact, it served me too well. It was just enough to show me how much I was going to love scooting and how much more I was going to love it as my capabilities increased.Wanting just to get around town quickly turned into wanting to tour, take road-trips, and get out on the open road. Information gathering was incredible. Absolutely no pressure from anyone when I was there....some could interpret it as indifference in a sales environment - that's how low-pressure it is. If you have questions, just speak up and ask these guys! Don't be afraid of what you don't know. Just ask. After finally pulling the trigger on my first ride I started racking up the miles. I wanted to get out on the open road and explore. And, while my smaller scooter could get me there if it tried really hard, it just wasn't cutting it. I started thinking "motorcycle." When you start to factor storage, comfort, fuel economy, and comfort for a passenger into your decision you start looking at very large, very expensive motorcycles as your ideal options. After a less than encouraging visit to a local motorcycle shop resulting in leaving empty handed I thought "let's see what happens at Philadelphia Scooters." There's something to be said for being known by your first name when you walk into a business. You instantly feel as if you're among friends. After a quick catching up we got down to business. I love my scooter but I need more. Can we talk about a trade-in? We talked about what I was looking for and they had something in the shop that fit my needs perfectly. Very fair value on the trade-in and an equally fair price on the new ride and we had a deal. I can't stress this enough - this shop is fantastic. They are very busy and they don't service bikes on the weekends so you're going to have to schedule your service out a bit. They're also interested in keeping you safe on the road so, yes, they will inject some personal opinions into their answers to your questions (do I need a full face helmet? Well, how much of your face do you actually like?) but I'd rather that than to have gone into the shop a complete newb to this world and come out unprepared. If I had a team of brothers, this is how I would assume they would treat me if they owned a scooter store. They are nice, never condescend (I'm sure some of my questions have been borderline absurd), and always go above and beyond to help when I need it. I have owned my scooter for a year (purchased there), and whenever I need help I can count on these guys. Recently, someone in my neighborhood stole my battery and did some relatively substantial vandalism to my scooter while they were at it. Philadelphia scooter went above and beyond when I needed someone most, staying open beyond their store hours, and helped me get back on the road. I refer all my friends to them, and no one has yet been disappointed with their service or prices. We're pretty damn lucky to have them in our city. I am brand-new to the scooter world and just passed the motorcycle safety course. I went to the shop on an exploratory visit with a million questions and Sean was extremely patient, kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. I never felt pressured to buy anything and he was brutally honest in what I needed and didn't need. I enjoyed the shop experience so much that I went back today to buy a scooter + accessories. The guys at this shop are my new favorite people. I bought a new scooter recently and I have nothing but love for my fellow 2 wheel machine. I needed an adjustment shortly after my purchase and even though I could sense they were very busy, they made sure I was taken care of. The staff is uber friendly, easy to talk to and are all about building customer relationships. I walk in and feel like I've known them forever. These guys can offer knowledge, advice and stories from their own riding experiences, personal ownership of their own scooters and 9 years of selling and fixing in the shop. This place absolutely wrecks of genuine heart. Ask Sean how many bikes he owns and if that answer doesn't win you over, then I don't know what will. Tip #1: If you happen to buy a scooter with the restriction still on, I recommend shelling the extra $ to take it off. Makes a huge difference in driving and performance. Both side happened to be rude at some point, but I only saw Philadelphia's Scooter staff (Sean) apologizing for hes behavior. He was certainly out of line, but knew it and backed down, not the customer (I could be wrong, but that's what I saw, I was busy being an awesome client). That being said I had a good experience shopping there, as a foreign student I was lost in the paperwork, and Sean was of a great help, even though it led me to my first DMV experience haha! Love these guys. I bought a Stella from them over the summer and my whole experience was great. Sean helped me choose what to get (color, mostly), answered my off-the-wall questions and wasn't bothered by my crude sense of humor. Larry was an excellent teacher when I needed to learn manually gearing. Dan helped me get gloves that keep my hands warm and laughs at my jokes. I've come back a few times for different things and they are always willing to help me. I got stranded one day and frantically called Sean who calmly talked me through things and got me on my way. I stopped over today because I had a flat tire on my Honda Helix scooter. Now I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined and am capable of most major and minor maintenance on my motorcycles and scooters but apparently I goofed this one up. Anyway, I brought the scooter in on the back of my truck and the guys came out to look at it, checked for leaks and everything but couldn't find anything. Apparently I had been riding it around with the tire pressure so low that coming around a turn it just unset the bead. So these guys filled the tires for me, set the pressure correct in both the front and rear and sent me on my way. When I went in the shop to settle up, they said no charge even though I wasted about 10-15 minutes of their time! Awesome place -- I'll def go back and would recommend them very highly. I have purchased two scooters from this shop. Sure, the scooters are awesome, but the staff made the buying experiences great. I didn't feel rushed into either purchase, and everything - from the components of the scoots to different models and payment arrangements and where to get the bikes tagged - was explained to me clearly. This shop also does (or at least did when I bought my last scooter a few years back) maintenance like oil changes and repairs. Great scooter shop in south philly. I brougth my moped here from Arizona, and it had sat all winter. Needless to say, it needed a bit of annual mainteance. The shop facilitated picking up my scooter at my house ($65) and gave it a tune up, replaced the battery and a tire, replaced the weights in the transmission and cleaned out the carbuerator. I also was able to pick up a sweet helmet there! Just a great shop with top notch customer service, a vast selection of mopeds and gear and great cycle service! read more
