I failed to see that Doug had sold the place when I initially booked the stay. That being said, the new owner and "manager" need to brush up on their customer service skills pertaining to travel and basic human interpersonal skills. Prior to arrival, I double-checked to make sure my early check-in which I paid a fee for was OK as the receipt is auto generated and showed a check in time of 4pm. The manager replied yes they could do that for me, I mean I paid for it they weren't doing me a favor. I also asked for 2 extra blankets because the area can be cold at night. Those blankets were not in the room as requested (even though staff were in the room when we arrived to make sure everything was perfect) and confirmed they would be. Next, the guests next door who arrived mid-week had 2 dogs (think the hotels policy is 1 dog for that unit but hey I'm not the manager) and he had them off leash running around the property with one charging right up to my dog each time he was near, my dog is currently ill and was not feeling this unwanted behavior. The owner was chatting with this guest upon arrival as he walked the property with the dogs running freely. I'm a huge dog lover & even volunteer with a rescue in NY but this was unsafe for the 2 dogs as much as guests. There was a sign at the pool to be safe by closing the umbrellas when you leave. Let's just say no one cared & I was thankful it wasn't windy. Also, the deck to the unit had a huge overgrown plant with tons of bees so if you are allergic, pack your epi-pen. Lastly, the night before we were to leave my mom was walking through the dimly lit kitchen and fell on the 1 stair leading to the living room, she was in so much pain we had to call EMS at 1030pm. They arrived along with a firetruck, and long story short, she was admitted to the hospital in the wee hours and had surgery the next day then transferred to acute rehab Labor Day through the next week. The following morning I informed the manager of the incident (as no one seemed aware there was an emergency situation on their property) who was distracted and half listening to me until I mentioned I was looking to stay longer but the site is wanting me to book as new guest and asked if she can extend my reservation. She seemed pleased to tell me it would cost the holiday rate which was about $2000 for Sat-Mon but due to this unexpected emergency, I had limited options due to the holiday weekend already started, needing housing that allows dogs & being 4.5hrs from home. When we left Monday, we had some down time waiting for my mom to discharge so I sent an email to the property to let them know we relocated to another hotel but it was shocking that no one checked to see how my mother was doing. She is a healthy woman who fell on their property requiring urgent surgery the next day. The responses were so lacking. The manager seemed to be full of excuses, covering herself, condescending as I have a hugh emotional intelligence and still not one inquiry about my mothers well-being. I work in healthcare and always joke "I have seen it all" well after this stay I truly have! I do hope the staff accept my recommendation to take some customer service classes and to ensure that the property rules are followed. Do yourself a favor, stay elsewhere to enjoy Rye & the surrounding areas.

The rooms are evidently undergoing some renovations; however, I don't think there is anyway to renovate this to today's expectations and standards. The heating and cooling unit is loud enough that if you are trying to watch TV you have to turn the volume up when it kicks in and down when it cycles down. The floor had a downhill tilt (not as noticeable in shoes but definitely if you are barefoot). A laminate wood floor has been added as an "update" at sometime, which would have been the time to level up the slope. The ceiling and areas around the heat/air unit all have crazy gaps and need better trim work. Let's talk ventilation and insulation. I swear the ducts just connect one room to another. We listened to the kids next door carrying on till after 11 and the parents evidently didn't care about other guests and the running up and down the halls and hollering during other times was like they were in our room with us. Our room was over the function room and I think the music was louder in our room than it was when we had been downstairs. The advertised "shared microwave" is just one in the lobby, not even one on each floor by the ice machines. We attended a function on Saturday night in the banquet hall. The serving staff was great and were hustling their butt's off. The food was a giant hit or miss!! Those who had pre-ordered the grilled sirloin had the home run meal. The rest of us struck out. The chicken was pounded so thin that it was dry all the way through except for a silver dollar sized area, those who got the ravioli found them to be under stuffed and lacked any kind of sauce so were also dry. If that wasn't bad enough everything was luke warm, but because I was hungry I ate the broccoli and penne . The salds were good, veggies were crispy. Dressing was spotty on some of them and well dressed on others. For the outrageous meal price for events, I am sure we will not be back. When we checked out there was no " how was your stay inquiry from staff, just a "there are no charges so you are all set"

NO restaurants were open in the entire building with the exception of one for one day out of the 4 we were there for. They charge you for the use of chairs and their coffee and valet $50 per day no matter if you use any of it or not. The room was extremely small which was ok we can handle that, we asked to have our room cleaned each day was only cleaned one day, asked for fresh towels 3 times before we actually finally got them, no blow dryer, had to steel one from another room that was open for renovations. Over all the amount was way over priced for the surrounding dummy area. If you wanna charge top rates at least have things to offer for that top cost. Open your restaurants have more to offer.

Stay away from "The Little House," vacation rental at Plaice Cove in Hampton NH…read more The view from the deck was magnificent... until the backhoe showed up to fix the neighbor's sea wall, obstructing the beach, filling the air with noise, ruining the last 4 days of our vacation. Owner was unresponsive for over a week until threatened, and ultimately declined to offer even a modest refund. The Little House is dangerous for kids. Exposed electric wires/outlets/junction boxes, and there are hundreds of nails sticking through the wall (they are holding up the vinyl siding and stick through into the interior by about 1 inch). Thank goodness my 2-year-old did not stumble while close to the wall or it would have meant a trip to the hospital. Are there no building codes in New Hampshire? Also, you must climb over jagged boulders to get from the cottage to the beach because there is no direct path/stairs/walkway. The listing on HomeAway.com talks about a "short-stay guest/storage/laundry room" and provides some carefully staged pictures. In case you were wondering, the "short stay" room is actually a garage with a couple of beds set up in there, and there are rusty sharp tools strewn about. My daughter slept there. My aunt who is recovering from cancer slept there, and when I made up her bed a big black bug crawled out of the blanket. I was stressed out the whole vacation. The beach at Plaice Cove is rocky & rough, better buy some aqua socks if you want to swim. Many more details of this disappointing rental: http://958-ocean-blvd-nightmare.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-little-house-at-958-12-ocean.html I recommend you look elsewhere for your vacation.

They went above snd beyond to make sure all of our questions were answered, were quick to respond to any texts, and they made my partner and I feel so incredibly welcome! We stayed in The Den which was such a cozy little place. The whole space was very well thought out, bed was quite comfortable and there were even some fresh eggs waiting in the fridge for us! The cedar soaking tub they had was such a lovely addition and it was so great to use after a long full day. They also had an entire welcome binder outlining local restaurant, attractions, and other places of interest. The on-site yoga classes and farm store (with fresh muffins, baked bread and local crafts) were just the cherry on top!!! All of this doesn't even mention how incredibly convenient the location was, when we stepped out of our door, you wouldn't know that you were only a 15 or so minute drive from Portsmouth because it really was such a peaceful, calming place. All around if we have ANY reason to be staying in or around Portsmouth again, you can bet I won't be looking any further than Shilo Farm!!!

When we arrived and we were driving down Shiloh Farms driveway, Amylyn was waving us in and it was just a wonderful welcome to a fun farm experience! Jonas came out to welcome us and they both asked if we wanted to meet their dog Shasta...they explained she's big but friendly. She was; and so happy and silly, we even got her to roll over. This farm feels well protected with this beautiful girl manning the farm. In any event they showed us around and everything is so well designed and everywhere you walk there is art. I love farm swings as I remember them at my grandparents farm and one of their swings fit both of us and we had a blast swinging amongst the friendly chickens, singing and laughing. I just felt healthier amongst all the nature and beauty and had no idea how much the sounds of a farm would delight us. This was exactly the unique farm experience I was seeking for my kiddo. She chose a farm experience over amusement park experience or more beach time and here we couldn't get away from the animals, in a great way. Goats, chickens (so happy and fun), cats, and of course Shasta and friendly proprietors that went out of their way for my kiddo. We fully intended to use the fire pit but the first day we had been at the beach all day and conked out early. And the second night was rainy and we were tired from a lot of travel but we did have an excellent night sleep, listening to the rain. And with the yoga, I never inquired as we do some at home on YouTube and I'm awkward doing it and really we're here for the animals. We just got done running with the goats and collecting eggs from the chicken coop, all the while being educated in a kid friendly way about the animals, their food, the different species, and all about the different colored eggs. Fascinating. And BONUS, they shared/gave my daughter a little book about one of their goats, named Olaf that is about bullying and conquering it and a coloring book she spent a-lot of time on yesterday . I can't thank Amylyn and Jonas enough for providing such an interactive, relaxing, and fun time at a beautifully designed property that delights the eye with all the art (much created from trees and other resources on the property. Their love of animals, their farm, each other and what they do makes for a warm and loving experience. Their stories about the animals are so cool- their chickens don't get eaten, they live their full lives, and what happy and healthy chickens they are. Luna, the goat had a stroke a while back and they lovingly got her back in action after quite the recovery. Happy people doing what they love on this farm. We are lucky they love it so much they want to share it The location is AMAZING.. a couple miles from gorgeous beaches (that's definitely my thing so we got the best of both worlds here) Pics are on the way
