This is one of my wife and i's favorite places in Maine. We stayed there once and plan on staying every summer. It is right across the street from a beautiful park and beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful; they give out plenty of towels and what you need for the beach. The free breakfast is amazing with one of the best views around. We ate at ship cellars pub downstairs last time and had one of the best scallop dishes I've ever had. The rooms were very comfortable. For the price, overall, hard to find anything better. My boyfriend and I stayed here on Valentine's Day as a quick overnight getaway. We stayed in the Harbor Hill Inn. On arrival, it was easy to find, but parking was not. We, as long as others, were doing laps around the main lot and the mini lot for the Harbor Hill Inn trying to find a spot. We ended up having to park on the street because there were not enough spots at Harbor Hill. When checking in, we were told there are enough spots for each room, yet the lot for our Inn was completely full. We were also told that if we found a spot, we shouldn't move the car. We wanted to explore the area more, so we did have to leave, it is odd to me that an Inn doesn't have a better parking situation for Inn patrons. We thought it would be fun to go to the pub for apps and a drink before our dinner reservation at the main restaurant. Unfortunately, we were met with an hour long wait for 2 at the pub. I do find it interesting when an Inn doesn't open up reservations or spots for their own guests to dine, rather than locals. When we did go to our dinner reservation, we had a nice time. Our waiter was helpful. When the food came, they brought out a wrong dish. The boy that brought it out told us he wished we said something before he put it on the table because now the dish couldn't be used. We weren't able to tell it wasn't the right dish until it was in front of us.... we then waiting 15 minutes for the right food to come out. Our waiter had them remake my meal as well since it got cold, which was nice. The food was great once we finally had it. They also comped 50% of the wrong dish which was also nice. After dinner we had drinks and headed back to our room to go to bed. A phone call woke us up. It was the front desk; they told us that "Someone came into the lobby furious that our room is being so loud. They said that last night, this morning and this evening we have been ridiculously loud." I told the person on the other line that we have been asleep in bed, and we only checked in this evening. I find it curious that the front desk wouldn't look who was in the room and if we had even been there the day prior. Then, instead of offering an apology, they said "well do you hear any noise?" I said earlier the room next to us was making some noise but nothing like they are describing. They then said, "well which side, right or left?" I said I do not know I need to go back to bed. Pretty unbelievable, and something that hasn't even happened to me at a cheap hotel. I wish I walked away feeling better about our stay, but it is in a beautiful location... read more

I feel as if this should have been a much better experience but it satisfied the needs of grabbing a room on the coast with a view and an experience. The room was small for the price but again, I knew we would pay a little more for an INN in York Maine but it was still a little small with a VERY small shower. But there definitely have been a few upgrades to the room we were in. Also there was a cool fireplace with a instafire log in there to use if wanted. The breakfast in the morning was not that great outside of the coffee and eggs ... so we weren't that impressed with that. The service was great though as they were attentive and super nice at every turn while we were there and made it a much more memorable stay. So, if you are looking for a basic place to lay your head then this will suffice but if you are looking for a luxurious INN stay, look around! read more

York Harbor Inn is a historic inn and restaurant that opened in York, Maine in April 1980. It was founded by Garry Dominguez and his family. The roots of the inn, however, date all the way back to 1637. In the early 1800s, a fishing community on the Isles of Shoals, ten miles off the coast, dismantled their homes and brought them to York. It was at this time that the York Harbor Inn's post and beam fireplaced "Cabin Room" (circa 1637) was carefully dismantled by its owners and transported by barge to York Harbor from the Isles of Shoals where it had been used as a sail loft for the refitting of ships sails. By the late 1800s, the property was known as the Hillcroft Inn and was operated by the Smith family with a handful of guest rooms, a dining room and a tavern dubbed "The Cellar". The Colligan family purchased the inn in the 1940s and ran it until the Dominguez family purchased it in 1978. Since that time, the Dominguezes have purchased a number of nearby historic buildings. As of 2025, the York Harbor Inn comprises two campuses with seven lodging properties and three onsite dining options. My extended family and I visited the York Harbor Inn this past summer while we were on a week-long vacation in York. We had dinner at the inn's 1637 Main Dining Room. The dining room is connected to the historic Cabin Room which features a beautiful original field stone fireplace. There are also beautiful views of the York Harbor. For cocktails, I had the "Tiger Maple" (Bulleit bourbon, orange marmalade, lemon, Maine maple syrup, fresh rosemary) while my wife had the "Harbor Beach Lemonade" (blueberry vodka, lemonade, blueberry juice, lemon, rosemary). For entrees, I had the "Broiled Sea Scallops" (fresh native sea scallops topped with buttered crumbs broiled in wine & lemon) with a side of chive mashed potatoes and green beans, my wife had the "Pan Seared Lemon Caper Sea Scallops" (large native sea scallops pan seared & deglazed with white wine lemon & capers, served over cream corn & pickled onion tomato relish), our older son had the "Kids' Shells & Red Sauce", and our younger son had the "Kids' Chicken Tenders" (w/ French fries). We all really enjoyed our meals; our other family members enjoyed their selections too! Delicious food & drinks, historic decor, beautiful views and friendly staff! We visited Harbor Inn during our first trip to Maine and unfortunately had one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. After being seated, we waited approximately 15 minutes before anyone came to our table with water, menus, or to take drink orders. We eventually asked for water and were informed that the bartender, Corey, would also be serving our table. Initially, Corey was friendly and spent time talking with us and offering recommendations for places to visit in York. However, service quickly deteriorated. After another 30 minutes, she took our order, but roughly 20 minutes later returned and explained that she could not read her own handwriting and was having trouble entering our order into the system. Our table of seven had to repeat our orders multiple times while another staff member stood by without assisting. At one point, a member of our group attempted to help clarify the order, and Corey responded by calling them a "bitch." This was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Our table was seated near the service area, and we could also hear conversations about our group, including comments expressing frustration that we were upset after waiting over an hour and a half for our food order to be entered. Eventually, a different server delivered our meals. When Corey later returned to check on us, she commented, "I hope you don't get me fired," and stated that we were making her nervous. Rather than acknowledging the service issues, it felt as though responsibility was being shifted onto the customers. Throughout the evening, Corey appeared impaired. She struggled to speak clearly, could not read her own writing, had difficulty entering orders, and at one point even suggested that having two glasses of wine before driving home would be "no problem." Several staff members witnessed this behavior, yet no one appeared to intervene. No manager ever came to our table to apologize, address the situation, or check on our experience. What concerns me most is not just the behavior of one employee, but the apparent lack of management oversight. Mistakes happen, and poor service can be forgiven. However, allowing an employee who appears impaired to continue serving customers, while other staff members observe the situation and take no action, reflects a serious lapse in professionalism and customer care. Maine was wonderful, and we look forward to returning. Unfortunately, Harbor Inn will not be part of any future visit. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and reviews what occurred that evening so that other customers do not have a similar experience. read more

We just took a "midweek weekend" and had our first stay at York Harbor Inn. We couldn't have asked for a nicer time. EVERYONE from the people I spoke with on the phone, to those at the desk, and those in the restaurants were incredibly friendly and helpful. So much so, that my husband, friend who was with us, and I kept commenting on it to each other. We got an email the day of our reservation saying that pipes had burst in the building we had for our reservation (they have four (I think it's four) buildings that comprise the inn) and they gave us options for other rooms. They upgraded us to a really lovely room. The location is excellent - across the street from the ocean. The furnishings were old (in a good way), heavy, wood pieces that really contributed to the place feeling warm and homey. The beds were superior. The shower pressure was strong. The sharing living room with fire place was so comfortable. The breakfast was top shelf. Homemade coffee cake and apple cake and blueberry muffins. Homemade pancakes one morning. Everything about breakfast was great - and included in the room cost. They have a restaurant and a pub in the main building. We ate at both. The staff were wonderful. The servings were more than ample (the bean and goat cheese salad was enormous, and the mussels appetizer was super generous). I had the ravioli with seafood, which was delicious. My husband loved the mussels. The crab cakes were truly full of crab meat, not filler. Our servers were relaxed, helpful, and friendly - making our dining even more enjoyable. My husband and I have been celebrating our anniversary every May for the past five years at the York Harbor Inn, and it has become an incredibly special tradition. The charm of this inn, with its stunning Victorian and Georgian architecture, makes it a wonderful place to unwind and reconnect. What I love most about the inn is how so many of the buildings have been preserved as homes. The living room areas--full of historical character and charm--are often so quiet and underused. I never quite understand why, because there's nothing better than curling up with a good book by the fireplace, enveloped by the cozy atmosphere. Over the years, we've had the pleasure of staying in a few of the beautiful inns on the property. We've spent time in The Chapman Cottage, The Harbor Crest Inn (twice now, once with our dog Gatsby), and The Harbor Hill Inn. So far, The Harbor Crest Inn holds a special place in my heart. The downstairs living rooms provide a peaceful retreat, and being able to bring our dog made it all the more special. One of the highlights of our stay is always the delicious breakfast served each morning. The dining area, with its beautiful views, makes even the simple act of enjoying a meal feel like an event. Whether you're admiring the stunning wallpaper or the charming fireplace, there's always something lovely to take in while you enjoy your meal. This year, we dined at the restaurant upstairs a few times, and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff--especially Noelle--was beyond kind. Noelle was an angel sent from above; her warmth and kindness were truly touching, and her presence made the experience even more memorable. There was another staff member at The Harbor Crest Inn who was incredibly kind, and her genuine warmth touched my heart in a deep way. Sometimes, I believe God places angels in our paths to offer kindness and comfort, and she certainly did that for me. I'll never forget her kindness. The beach area across from the inn is another wonderful gift. Watching the sunrises and sunsets while walking along the shore was truly peaceful. The walks back to the Harbor Crest Inn were lovely too--there are so many safe, car-free areas to explore, and we even ventured out to the island, which was both relaxing and exhilarating. In fact, my heart rate dropped to 67, a sure sign of how deeply relaxed and present I felt during this anniversary getaway. This trip was exactly what my husband and I needed, and I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience it at the York Harbor Inn. It's a perfect place to rest, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of Maine. I'm already looking forward to our next visit! read more

For an authentic, history-rich hotel in one of Maine's most gorgeous and welcoming communities, York Harbor Inn is easily the very best. We stayed in Room 35 (and recommend it), where we fell asleep to the comforting sound of waves, and woke to one of the most delicious and varied breakfasts we've ever enjoyed at a hotel. The view of the ocean from our room...? Magnificent. The wonderful beach across the street is often overlooked by visitors to York, and - in a way - it's a hidden treasure. Being just a few steps from the path leading to it (and to Cliff Walk) was a bonus, as a hotel guest. (On busy summer days, parking can be challenging near the beach... the beach has a very small parking lot (holds less than 20 cars, at best. Parking along the nearby street is fairly limited as well, unless you're okay with a long walk.) The staff at York Harbor Inn were an absolute delight to chat with. They're eager to share tips, from how to make the very most from the hotel's delicious buffet-style breakfast, to the hotel's amazing history. Though this was our first visit, we instantly felt at home. If you're looking for a sleek, cookie-cutter, modern hotel... this is definitely not that. It is a series of historic homes from the 18th century, with all the quirks and nuances you'd expect. Likewise, to accommodate a private bathroom for each guest room, the rooms may seem small to some visitors. However, for a rich experience in one of America's most historic hotels, across the street from one of Maine's most charming beaches... Well, this is among your very best choices. Stayed here over the weekend while in Maine for a week in June. Really wish we would have picked another place. This inn had none of the charm you'd want or expect from an independent inn. They have a few homes and buildings strung along the area. So you check in at the main building and go from there. Our room was in a cottage about a mile down the road. No issue there. Sign at the desk mentioned if you needed assistance with luggage to ask. So I asked and was told it was only for the main building. We were on our own. You get to the cottage and there's scaffolding on the corner go all the way up the building. We get to the room and there are two fireplaces. One in the sleeping room and one in the bathroom. The one in the sleeping room didn't work. Another thing that didn't work was the heat or ac. If there was ac. I don't think the room even had ac. No one ever mentioned that to us. Room would have been alight if those things worked or were available. We paid over $300 a night and it really wasn't worth it. Not with the lack of amenities. Breakfast was included each morning at the main building. Went down the first morning. It was nothing great or possible. Bagged eggs, subpar most likely store bought pastries and bad juice. If it would have been a steller breakfast I would have forgiven everything else. Rooms didn't even have a coffee maker. Had to go downstairs for it. Hotel also had fresh cookies every night, in the main building. Couldn't they have had that in every building? If you weren't in the main inn you were forgotten or an after thought. Was really odd. Wish we would have stayed anywhere else. read more

The employees at the York Harbor Inn said that they have many families and couples who return every year. After only going once, I can definitely see why! All of the employees were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We were welcomed with delicious fudgy brownies upon arrival late in the evening. They handed us a map to make sure that we, who had never been to York before, knew where to visit. While York is a beautiful town, I particularly enjoyed the Inn's location, directly across from the cliff walk with access to the beach. It is surrounded by trees, giving it a cozy atmosphere. I liked how close we were to Long Sands and Kittery. The rooms were very clean and welcoming. The complementary breakfast was delicious. I loved their homemade granola and delicious blueberry muffins. read more

Restaurant review only here as we arrive here cruising our boat. What a fun spot this is! The restaurant has the look of an elegant four masted full rigged ship. Lots of nautical features and decor as well as the full wood paneled interior. Large high bar with lots of alcohol choices. Whenever I'm at any bar with my wife, I ask if the bartender can make a margarita with gold patron, Cointreau, lime juice and splash of water. Most places just give a deer in the headlights look and say no. This place was more than happy to make the drink exactly the way we wanted it. Food is well prepared with clearly fresh ingredients and plated nicely. If you're in York, I'm not sure you will do much better for a nice dinner than this spot. read more

Went to the Ship's Cellar at York Harbor Inn. Had the special of fried clams appetizer. It was delicious! The clams had medium size bellies and not gritty or sandy at all. Tender and sweet and the coating was great. Also had the large caesar salad which was good size for sharing with my husband and myself. Mussels were good and tasty with a garlic wine sauce but portion was small . Overall good food with a nice atmosphere with beautiful woodwork and the feel and look of the inside of a ship. We had a fantastic evening at 1623 York Harbor main dining room! The ocean view of the sunset was breathtaking while we ate warm homemade bread, garlic, and whipped butter! We enjoy the very affordable fine dining experience by starting with the Provincial PEI mussels and Ahi Tuna appetizers. We were so happy with the great tasty wine and our entrees of Apple Cider Salmon and the Lobster stuffed chicken. The service was impeccable as well! Can't wait to come back read more

Its a nice spot with nice interior but it was very loud in there and the server would only stand at one end of the long table with all 8 of us. So difficult to hear server. I had the Salmon and mashed potatoes which were both good (salmon would have been better if cooked just a little less) but the herb butter sauce was rather bland. read more

Great location, high overlooking York harbor. We had lunch there over labor day weekend. We shared a large Ceasar salad. It was very fresh, well sauced, not vinegary or tart with lots of anchovies. Enough for 3 people as an appetizer. I had the french onion soup. The cheese on top was burnt, very smokey and Inedible. I scooped it out and ate the soup underneath which was a decent flavor. I ordered the ribeye to share. The overall flavor was very good. Very tender cut with great flavor. However the presentation was not. It was grey, no crust on it. It was a 14oz steak but there was a large 3-4 OZ chunk of fat on the end. Could have trimmed that easily instead of selling it to a customer as a quality product. My wife had the tahini vegetable burger & fries and she liked it alot. Total price for 3 was $95, no booze. A mix bag of great food with burnt and bad presentation. Some say 3 stars was too much but I also considered the beautiful hill top location and the nice harbor walk trail right infront of the Inn where we walked through the park down to the harbor & back (about 1 mile) with scenic views of a classic new england setting out of Norman Rockwell painting. read more

The management was very rude during my stay. especsialy when dining at the dining in the Ships Celler Pub.

This was a bit of a strange experience. The staff really tries but perhaps maybe 20 years ago their efforts would be more appreciated. This is a dated property with some almost impossible stairs to navigate. If you have any mobility issues at all the Main Inn rooms are a bit treacherous to reach. Also the ceiling was slanted so the space between your body and the ceiling was just a couple of feet and made getting out of the bed without crawling all over your partner virtually impossible. The food here is lacking...seriously lacking. We ate both properties walking a ways to get to the other. The Shrimp dish there was just a few overcooked shrimp swimming in a sea of butter. Not good. The restaurant in the main inn was not much better. We could have spent a bit more time looking for a local place where the same money could have gone a lot farther. Listening to Van Halen 80s rock at breakfast and dinner really set the tone for the entire stay. It was as if they played what the staff wanted to hear as opposed to what guests might enjoy. The room and bath were clean and there was a nice patio but there have been some power lines erected right in front which really affects the view. This hotel is not too far from some pretty lighthouses which is nice. Nice towels! read more

The last time I went to the restaurant, they had a cheap insert in the menu asking us to donate money to buy beer for the staff. Could you possibly get more low class? How about this, buy your own beer for your employees! Overall, the food has gone downhill over the years. Bed is super comfortable and room is fairly large and renovated. Bathroom is also renovated and huge. The Inn is really cute (we were in the main building). Staff is lovely. Fyi, no elevators so it's stairs only. Having experienced it, I'd only do the first floor or second floor only. Inn's location is perfect for the beach and park on the ocean across the street. Love the free bottled cold water every day and walking across the street instead of trying to find parking. They have a dog friendly Inn too if you have dogs. Gluten free for their restaurants needs some work. I ordered a supposedly gluten free seafood flatbread for dinner and paid the price with issues and was up all night. The breakfast had nothing gluten free so they made eggs which had so much salt in them that I couldn't eat them. The cook said she didn't use pepper but apparently she decided that eggs and milk and minimal salt weren't good enough- and used soo much salt that they were inedible. Tried to see about even having yoghurt but they use an off brand, at least when we were there so gave up on the GF quest at the hotel and we went to the Greenery in Ogunquit and got a wonderful gf breakfast. We went over to The Landing nearby and Robert Maine for lunch and dinner and had excellent gluten free meals elsewhere the rest of the visit. AC in the room wasn't working when we arrived in 90 degree heat so they got a new unit in the room which worked like a charm. Staff was so helpful. We stayed in the 388 suite. The pictures on the website make this look much bigger than it is. We paid about $370 to stay here for the night and it is nowhere near that quality.. We didn't even sit on the couch because it was so disgusting and dirty. Not sure if it was human "DNA" or dog slobber or a combination of both. I would describe the suite as an upscale double room motel six. Don't even get me started on the disgusting food from the Ship Bottom tavern. My bestie & I were traveling up the Maine coast in September 2020. Found this B&B on Airbnb & it looked so cute, I couldn't help but book it. *Location/Parking: Location is right across from ocean. In the summer/fall months there is lots of trees, so I admit, it was hard to see much water from our room. But so easy to just cross the street for a little stroll. Downtown is about 1 mile, & the lighthouse along with most restaurants were within 3-4 miles. Plenty of parking & no charge. *Rooms: Our room was spacious with one queen bed. Had a small mini fridge, Keurig, & a small tv (w/cable). Appeared clean. The bathrooms are outdated, but this is an older building. We had an outdoor balcony that was perfect for an afternoon tea. *Staff: The two gentlemen that checked us in were so nice. They showed us the local map, gave us bottled water, told us about breakfast the next day, recommended restaurants, etc. The lady whom served us breakfast the next morning was also pleasant. However, the girl that checked us out was rude. Did not want us anywhere near her. When I tried to hand her the keys, she very rudely pointed to a basket, as if we had a disease or something....& we were the ones with a negative covid test. *Food: Due to covid they couldn't do their normal breakfast buffet. However, they had a grab & go with: sausage, egg & cheese English muffins, croissants, fruit, muffins, pastries & coffee. The SEC English muffin was sadly cold, even though it appeared under a heat lamp. Everything else was good. There was seating out back. Overall was a nice stay. I knocked off a star for the rude checkout lady (I believe she is b/t 25-35 y.o.) & the cold breakfast sandwich. However, they did a pretty good job with accommodations despite covid. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. First, the rooms are disgusting. Absolutely filthy. I'm talking worse than the basement of a fraternity house disgusting. There were spider webs and dust caked all over the walls, floors and corners. The bedding also looked like it was never changed and the blankets never washed. I've never refused to sleep in a hotel bed before, but I had no choice so I bit the bullet. I ended up sleeping full clothed from head to toe with a hoodie on. Now let's talk about the bathroom. Besides the uneven flooring, and what I believe was dried blood (no biggie!), there was also a nice layer of dirt on the bottom of the bathtub. I refused to step in barefoot so I wore flip flops like I was at the communal shower at the YMCA. The sink area also had some nice left over hairs from some other patrons so that was nice of them. From all the great reviews I would've though this place was a hidden gem. However, this place a DUMP. I have never been to a worse hotel in my life. I think it's on par with a motel in the ghetto. A Must Stay I can't say enough about this place. This love affair began when I say the Inn featured in Chronicle and decided to go and visit it. From then on, yearly, for our anniversary, my husband and I would go there to celebrate. We stroke up a friendship with the manager, Paul Gagnon, and he is one of the most customer service focus person I have ever met! Our 25th anniversary was coming up and I told him that we're looking for a place to hold it but wanted the ceremony to be outside and he said that we should hold it at the Inn because they use the Manly Reservation accross the street for outside ceremony. Paul and I worked through covid the make this day happen and it finally did. This man would call me even on his day off to tell me about an idea that he has to make my day even better. He takes his job very serious and takes to heart the planning, he made it so much easier to work with and plan every detail. Our celebration went well even when there was a power outage, my guests were unaware, Paul switched to plan B so fast that I didn't even notice. Cocktail hour was held at the Reservation site instead of the Inn. My guests enjoyed themselves greatly and when the ights came back on we proceeded insided and continued celebrating. Everything was still on time whci made Paul very happy. Most of my overnight guests stayed at the Inn or Chapman Cottage where I stayed, so I know he has made a few more clients for life besides us. The main dining room is wonderful. The food is fabulous. I visited this past weekend with a few friends . The only issue was the music that was playing. There was a man playing a guitar. The music was very loud, to the point that we could not even hear what we were saying to each other. Whatever kind of music he was playing was not well liked either. I had asked to have the music turned down a number of times but it was not until I spoke with the manager that it was finally turned down. It was very unpleasant music. I am VERY disappointed in the provisions provided to the guests that bring their dog. When I checked in at the Main desk there were cookies and lemonade and water and ice. I was told to find my room I had to drive half a mile, away from the beach, to another set of old houses which is where I would find our room. It took me 15 minutes of wandering around, found no staff to ask, but finally found the room. No cookies or lemonade. I found a cooler in the foyer with iced bottled water. I'm really looking forward to breakfast, it's supposed to be in a dining room back in the check-in building that is half a mile away! I checked out what the house I'm staying in has in the way of breakfast and I found coffee to make and maybe they'll fill the pastry container. What a disappointing first day of our Maine vacation. If you don't want pets then just say so. The rules are ridiculous, no pets on bed, on white(really?) furniture and no barking. Don't invite patrons who do have dogs, charge extra and treat them like 2nd rate citizens . This was not a $325 experience. And just a mention to management that the carpet in room 503 is a tripping hazard. It feels like you rolled a carpet on top of old area rugs, it is so lumpy. Sure hope the rest of Maine is TRULY dog friendly. Update: it's morning, no coffee, no nothing. Got to shower, dress, drive to the check in house for at least coffee!. So disappointing! read more

Nice rooms. , pet friendly, great breakfast buffet, good restaurants. Staff was great, grounds well kept, near ocean.

Location and property are beautiful. Room was small but nice. No substantive curtains on the window so it was very bright, early in the morning, which made it hard to sleep in. There was a wedding hosted at the inn that ran until 9 pm on Sunday night. The music was so loud my room was vibrating and I could hear the music and wedding guests' conversations. Wedding guests were milling about until after 11 pm and it was very loud. York Harbor Inn should be more transparent about planned weddings and events with hotel guests so they are not disturbed. YHI should also enforce quiet hours. Service was lovely. read more
