    Delicious breakfast prepared by Ryan!
    Joy G.

By far the best B&B stay I've ever stayed at! As soon as you pull up the driveway and get an eyeful of the front of the house, you'll notice all these cool details in the architecture and landscaping. Both the interior and the outside are a true testament to host Ryan's commitment to preserving and showing off the original bones. I had a hard time choosing which suite, since they all looked fantastic, but after having the option of two rooms, we went with the Dogwood Suite, which had glorious morning light, a clawfoot tub to soak in, a dressing room with a chaise lounge (that I didn't know I needed until now), and a super comfy bed. I wish we had more than two nights to properly explore the first floor. Staying here, we were able to get a feel for the local arts community - even the soap in our bathroom was made locally. I'm usually not a huge breakfast person but every night I was here, I went to bed really looking forward to whatever Ryan would whip up. Our first morning, we had baked eggs and goat cheese; the next day, the most unbelievable French toast that I had to pack the leftovers for the road. The breakfast came with fruit and jam made from Orchard Hill Farm - I had to get some as gifts. Convenient location to Portsmouth and Portland, as well as Ogunquit, Wells, Kennebunkport. Well worth a stop even if you're planning on venturing further into Maine. I 100% recommend this place! It's perfect for anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, etc. We're already planning our next trip here, maybe for a murder mystery weekend. As all the other reviews emphasize, Ryan is an awesome host and steward. We so appreciated all his recommendations for what to do/eat in the area.

Wonderful, beautifully preserved and decorated mansion. Extremely gracious hosts who go above and beyond to please. Highly recommend. Baby, bridal shower, girls night out, couples getaway or the tea party..they do it all with class.

Amazing! That is the one word to describe the Lady Mary Inn. I have attended multiple events at the Lady Mary Inn, from a murder mystery event with my siblings, to high tea with friends fundraising the North Berwick Public Library. Every event has been spectacular, from the food to the decor. Both Ryan and Steve put time and effort into every event they host, ensuring that everyone (including those with food allergies such as myself) are able to eat the food they provide without worry and fully enjoy the event. I have, and will continue to recommend the Lady Mary Inn to all who are looking to visit the North Berwick area and the Seacoast area in general. Highly recommend 10/10.

We especially loved the large salt water hot tub and mid-day snacks (mixed nuts and large chocolate chip cookies - which were delicious). They also offer a mixed drink and wine at the self serve bar during the day. We stayed in the King 7 room and it was spacious. We loved the rain shower head. I also highly recommend the chocolate sampler box add on! We had the chocolate and champagne available at check in which was a nice touch. The hot tub was often quiet around 8pm and made for the perfect end of evening activity. They have an ample selection of towels and robes by the pool that are available to use. We also enjoyed a couples massage offered by the inn. Breakfast was very yummy! Each day there is a large selection of options you can pick and choose from. They had the breakfast offering for the day displayed and then you check off what you want with a marker on a short form. The inn is about a 10 minute walk from Footbridge beach, which was awesome. Overall I would recommend for any weekend getaway or celebration!

The staff is exceptional, Pete has this place running like a top! This time we stayed in Barn Suite 2 and I think this may now be my new favorite room. The shower is unbelievable and the room well appointed. And breakfast? The best! They make scones daily and each day is a different main breakfast. They also provide ice tea and either a sangria or other type drink along with house made cookies (best I've ever had) as well as Whoopie pies and mixed nuts and snack mix.

We inquired about rooms and rates at several places, but nothing felt quite right. As we leisurely walked around, we spotted the Candleshop Inn on a quiet side street. The Inn is quaint and old fashioned, yet beautifully kept and sparklingly clean. The owners are warm and welcoming; they feel like family, yet give you space to rest and relax. Barbara and Michael are gracious hosts who make their guests feel like old friends. The rooms are comfortable, the grounds nicely kept, and the bathrooms spotless, but the Inn's crowning glory is the front porch. The wide farmer's porch sports 5 or 6 rocking chairs, gentle breezes, and a lovely view. It poured the night we were there, and even the rain was gorgeous from the front porch. The Inn also features a back porch and a meditation garden, as well as lovely common areas stocked with books and games. One note, though: the rooms have no televisions. In fact, the only TV in the place is tiny, situated in a little sitting room downstairs. I doubt there's cable, though I didn't check, and only a VHS player. This didn't detract from our visit in any way--I would recommend that you bring a laptop and a subscription to Netflix if you want to watch movies. Breakfast is served at eight by the lovely ladies at the Inn. Cold and hot cereals, muffins and breads, frittatta or pancakes, and bagels with lox, capers, and cream cheese grace the table along with freshly cut seasonal fruit and strong coffee. I highly recommend the Candleshop Inn if you are looking to stay somewhere quiet, beautiful, and peaceful with a personal touch. We loved it so much that we stayed again on Sunday night despite the fact that we both had to work Monday morning. We wanted to savor every moment, so we stayed up late, then rose at 4 am to drive back to Cambridge!

The rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable, and the daily breakfast is generous and delicious. We also loved the thoughtful extras: a cozy tea bar, complimentary bikes, beach towels, and even Tommy Bahama chairs for the beach. Those little touches made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable. Location is great--close to a small beach and also the town. There are several restaurants even closer you can walk to as well. If you're looking for a place in Kennebunkport that truly goes above and beyond, the Harbor Inn is it.

It isn't super close to Old Port, but it's about a 20-25 minute walk, even faster if you have a car or bike. Our host, David, was so gracious and kind. He gave us all kinds of tips on where to eat, what to see, and which neighborhoods to check out. And the breakfast options. Holy moly. These are some of the things David made: lobster souffle; turkey bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast puff pastry; raspberry custard; pancakes with wild blueberry compote; lobster home fries. Honestly, some of our best meals in Portland were eaten right in this very B&B. He even puts snacks in the second floor lounge area (there's also tea and chips) every day, and on an especially hot day he put out a pitcher of pink lemonade. It seems like almost all the cooking and cleaning is done by him. I'm not sure how he manages it and yet everything is flawless, but there you go. Reserve your room early because it was booked solid the whole time we were there. Totally worth it.
