I would NEVER use Philco Plumbing again. Our radiators were not getting hot so he sent one of his workers, they opened one valve that we did not see in three minutes and charged us $200?!? Then proceeded to send us a quote as he recommended to replace our entire boiler system for thousands of dollars. We called another plumber who bled/flushed our radiators in 20 minutes and took the air out of our radiator system for less than the cost of Philco's first visit and everything worked great. In addition we wanted a line snaked and he wanted charge us $300 because we had a clogged drain, which we declined. If you want a plumber that is going to overcharge you and not fix your problem, call Philco! read more

Worked with Alex, one of the owners, who replaced a sink drain in our bathroom pedestal sink--standard job but a tight squeeze to get in behind the pedestal. Alex was super responsive, clear, and communicative. He let me know when he would be there and texted when he was on his way, was right on time. Based on the photos I sent him, he came with the parts with him, explained what he was going to do, and got right to work. Unfortunately my bathroom was installed with a non-standard size of pipe, so he had to leave and find the right size for us, apparently it wasn't easy to find. Once that was figured out the repair went quickly and smoothly. The quality of the work seems to be excellent, and he left the bathroom super clean and ready to use. Overall, it was a very good experience. I was quoted $275 max and it ended up being $325, presumably for the extra running around time to find the odd-size pipe. read more

We had a problem with our seat this past Saturday. Called a couple of other plumbers who blew us off because they were too busy. "Too busy"? WTF? So I did a little research and saw that Philco had some good reviews. So I figured why not. I have them a call and boom! I'm speaking to Phil! He said sure he could come by today but would I mind giving him a couple of hours because he had a couple of jobs scheduled. Now that's reasonable! True to his word, a few hours later a Philco truck stopped in front of our place and his associate, Tommy, jumped out and got to work. He assessed the problem, checked the system and started troubleshooting. We live in an old and rickety brownstone with systems that seem like they were designed by a mad scientist on a tab of acid. But Tommy isolated the issue and tried the least intrusive/most obvious solution first (as he should) and that turned out to be the solution. Basically, he just had to bleed the system. The thing is that we'd been told that had already been done. And perhaps it had. But Tommy did it repeatedly until he proved that the system was up and running. He also answered our questions without making us feel stupid. And he looked at a couple of other issues we had and offered a few suggestions for follow up. Bottom line: we needed a plumber on a weekend to fix our heat and Philco came through. I can easily recommend them. read more

Have used Philco 3 times within 7 months - for 3 separate problems. Found online when I had an emergency situation. Plumber showed up next day. Everything about this connection worked from phone call to job completion. 5 months later, I had a different plumbing issue! Again, start to finish left me reassured. 1 month later - another disaster! Called on a Sunday, Monday 9AM they showed up. Within 1.5 hours, another problem solved. I called these guys first thin in the morning. All sounded goo and the guy promised someone would be at my building in an hour and a half. I called back two hours later and her said he was working on getting a guy out to me and he'd call back with an ETA. I called back at 3:00 to find out what to expect and could only get voicemail which was not returned. So my impression of Philco is that they are utterly unreliable and you should not waste your time calling them. Get someone who will actually show up instead. I really don't understand why you can't give zero stars on these things. It's not that they even did a bad job, it's that they didn't do anything and jerked me around so that I lost a day of work for no reason at all. read more

Had a leak under our kitchen sink on a weekend and put a request out on Yelp. Philco was the first to respond (by far) and Alec called and walked me through options. He wasn't pushy, and didn't commit to a quote upfront without looking at the situation live which I felt was fair. I had other quotes come through much later from other plumbing services, which ended up being higher than what Alec ended up charging. He was courteous, clear and honest about what he saw, and identified another problem area that clearly needed fixing also. The issue was fixed quickly and professionally at a reasonable cost. The company ripped me of for an unfinished job and kept it off their records. The job was to disconnect my washer and the gas dryer, take the appliances out of the closet, open the washer's cover so that I could unlock the washer's door from the inside, close the cover, put and reconnect everything back. The company is held by a father and his son. The father came with his assistant, spent 40 mins, forgot or didn't bother to reconnect the vent pipe and charged me $550 (!!!) payable directly to the company's owner via Zelle. The next day the son couldn't even find the invoice for the job and claimed it was done by another company. Then how come my payment went to a person who's listed as the company's CEO? When I mentioned the disconnected vent pipe, the son says it could've been accidently broken. What a coincidence it got broken within a single day! Of course, it was also my fault that I agreed to pay that much without shopping around first as I later found out the job should've cost $300 max. read more

My experience with Philco plumbing was terrible - the father is interested in charging you maximum fees for a shoddy, minimal fix. We called Philco to fix a leaking bathroom sink issue. He told us a small pipe had to be replaced and charged $200 for maybe 10 min of work. The sink started leaking again 2 weeks later so we called them back. The son was fantastic and told us the problem was the bigger pipe under the sink which was rusted and needed to be completely replaced and that he was going to have his father come with the new part and install it free of charge. The father came, told us that tape covering the pipe was the "adequate" fix, and refused to install the new pipe unless we paid, completely contradictory to what his son had said. Of course, the tape did not hold, and the leaking began again but I'd rather pay more for any other plumber rather than pay someone who knows the real fix but tries to do the most inexpensive, minimal work. read more
