i have used the expert appliance center several times, both for repairs and to purchase new appliances. also i have had Jose come in 2x in the last 4 years to check out and clean my now 30 year old GE refrigerator. when i inquired about getting a new one, he told me my current one was functioning well and advised me to keep it. he noted that new appliances are just not as well made. on a different occasion the large wand head on my miehle vacuum stopped working. so i went in to buy a new one, Alexi, the man in the store, told me that they could try to repair it for $40. if it couldn't be fixed, the $40 would be applied to the price of a new wand head (which was well over $100.) well, they fixed it and also showed me how i could open it to clean it more thoroughly than i had been. finally, i recently had to buy a new microwave and figured i might as well buy a new electric range to replace my genuinely antique old one. so they sent me to the internet to find the appliances that i wanted and then return and tell them what i wanted so they would give me their price. they had the items i wanted in stock, were competitive and their installation fee reasonable, which included removing the old appliances and taking them away). we scheduled the installation for a date not far off and they provided, in advance, a certificate of insurance as required by my coop. the delivery was as scheduled and the 2 men who removed the old appliances and installed the new ones were professional, pleasant and efficient. it is really great to have a place like this, where one is dealing face to face with real people in the neighborhood. read more

Very disappointed how they treated a now former long-time customer. I called for troubleshooting and repair of a leaking dishwasher. Being handy, I had changed the door seal that corroded with a brand new original factory seal but still saw a small leak so i called Expert who I used many times before. They sent their dishwasher "expert" who said the seal was perfect, fiddled around, and when he could not fix it, said try it for a couple of weeks to see if seal molded into place, but he didn't think it would so plan to buy a new dishwasher. I told him it looked to me like the door wasn't sealing tightly enough and he insisted it would not turn on if that was the case. A couple of weeks later the leak persisted so I called back and spoke to a manager who said if the tech couldn't fix it, a repair wasn't possible. He said they'd send the same tech out again but he insisted he was positive no repair was possible and there would be another charge. I called a local competitor who did exactly what I suggested to Expert in the first place -- make the door seal tightly -- and what do you know-- no more leak! Of course, now having two techs visits I paid twice for a repair that should have been done the first time. I contacted Expert last week via their online appointment site asking for an apology and for wasting my time and money and a refund. No response. This is no way to treat a 20+ year customer. I'll never use Expert again and will make sure I suggest their competitor to everyone I know. read more

Had this company come to my house on a referral from Choice Home Warranty. I had a slight leak coming from my expansion tank for my boiler. It was a small, pinhole leak. The guy takes one Quick Look at the label on the tank and says "oh, Taiwan, poor quality". Don't ask me how he could determine that just by looking at the outside of the tank. Everything I've read about the average life of an expansion tank says five to ten years. This expansion tank lasted over 13 years, so how could it be "poor quality"? Based on the information that this contractor provided Choice, they denied my claim. Meanwhile this contractor took my $85 and provided nothing in return! I've bought two vacuums from Alex, and he recently sold me a Miele refrigerator and was able to get me a Bosch dishwasher that no one else was able to find, and at a better price. When the fridge arrived it had a (very, very small) dent in the door. It took a long time for him to source a replacement because of supply-chain issues, but he followed through. Tech came out as scheduled. Tried a few things to understand my ice maker problem. He told me the office would call the next day with the price for the required part. They never called, never returned my call. I did not mention the tech's name because i didn't feel it appropriate. I had to ask him to pull up his pants i saw his backside every-time he leaned into the refrigerator. Very unprofessional. My dishwasher was malfunctioning and technicians diagnosed the problem and offered to repair my 20 year old dishwasher. We discussed the cost of repair versus replacing the dishwasher. Replacing seemed to make more sense. A new machine was ordered and arrived. The technicians worked hard to install the new machine and had to struggle with the idiosyncrasies of our old house. I brought my decade-old Miele vacuum cleaner here, and not only did they fix it promptly at a fair price, they also spoke rapturously about my machine's fine build quality, bombproof motor, top notch filtration system and other geeky vacuum stuff that made me realize these guys not only know their business, they love it. Amazing service. I called after work on a Friday night to get help with a GE Profile refrigerator that was climbing well into the 80-degree mark, and after making sure nothing was blocked or clogged behind the fridge. Despite being just around closing time, the owner assured me that someone would be by within the hour (8PM) and that I "would have refrigeration tonight". True to their word, Alex came by at the appointed time with a replacement motherboard in hand (based on the description of the problem I gave over the phone), but then methodically diagnosed the real issue, walking me through every step of the way. Turns out it needed a much less expensive part (which he had in the truck), and the reapir was done in a little over an hour and with no food spoilage. He handed me a card with his cell number to call in case anything happened, and a service guarantee on the work that was done (though it is running fantastic now and I can't imagine needing it). Competent, friendly, responsive and effective, I will be using them for any future repairs and enthusiastically evangelizing them to anyone who will listen. read more

Only because I couldn't leave 0 stars... was told it would take 7/10 days to get a part... paid 1/2 the cost... we had to call them after 14 days... they would check and call back, no one did... after 2 days called again and was told if part wasn't in by the end of the week they would call the company and let us know... yeah right... still didn't hear back... we called again and were told it should be shortly... after another few days of nobody calling us we called again and said it was ridiculous we wanted our money back.... was told they would refund the money less a service charge ( what service) by check... another few weeks and we're still waiting... these guys are horrible businessmen and liars, would stay far away from ever doing business with them... read more

I called for a repair on my freezer and had a very knowledgable technician (Jose) who identified the problem, repaired it, and went above and beyond to make sure it would not happen again. Excellent Repair Service, and a true fixture of the neighborhood. We have bought our Miele vacuum cleaner there, and had only one minor repair need after almost 10 years of use. The vacuum itself isn't even broken, it was just a push button on the rod/nozzle. A few other appliances we didn't buy there, got repaired professionally and for a reasonable price. The store's owner is always helpful with advice, and never tries to upsell you any products you don't need. I called on a Saturday with multiple issues with two different kitchen appliances. Within 2 days, they were at my home, immediately identifying the issues, providing me next steps, and offering to come back if my building couldn't complete what needed to happen. Expert Appliance Center was the third company to look at my dishwasher, and they were the only ones to tell me that I didn't need to replace my dishwasher. They identified that the problem had to do with the water pressure from my building and not the appliance at all. For my ice maker, they quickly made a repair and called the freezer manufacturer to confirm that nothing else was wrong. I would use them again in a second, but hopefully nothing else breaks :) read more

Well this sucks. I updated my review, and the original review I did is gone now. Thanks so much, Yelp. What a lousy design! I have a 13 year-old range from Imperial with 2 ovens. One oven would stop lighting after it had been on very hot (over 400) for over an hour. Imperial told me to bring in a certified Imperial repair person. I called every one listed on their website in my area, but none would work on a residential model. I called Imperial back again, and they told me I needed a part to fix this, so I bought it on Amazon. It came with a schematic, but no instructions, and it was completely different from our existing parts. I couldn't figure out how to do it, so I called Imperial back, but they refused to help. With no one to help and at my wits end, my wife suggested I call Expert Appliance. They sent Mark out in a few days to take a look. We agreed to a reasonable price of $350 and Mark came back in a few days to install it. Mark took a long time to figure out what this part was to replace, and it was a difficult installation. Wiring had to be changed, and since the new part was a little bigger and didn't align properly, a metal bracket had to be reversed, trimmed, and new holes drilled. Mark worked through it though, and got it working with the new part. We were happy, and later that night, we used the oven to bake potatoes - very hot, and very long. The oven again failed to relight after over an hour. I was furious. The part that Imperial had said we needed and had such a hard time getting installed didn't fix the problem at all. I contacted Expert Appliance again and got another appointment a few days later. Mark came out and decided the problem was the solenoid valve that controls the gas flow. The valve stopped opening when it was very hot, he theorized, causing my problem. They offered to replace that part for $200 (again not unreasonable) and I agreed. A week later Mark came back to install the new valve. Of course nothing goes easily, and the new valve was slightly larger than the old one, but he worked through all the problems, and the new valve fixed the relighting problem. Kudos to Mark for his knowledge, skill and perseverance, and to Expert Appliance for a good value and a job well done. read more

Simply outstanding. I called ahead to see if they were open, and an employee answered very kindly and welcomed me to stop by. They are located on the same shopping center where A&P use to be and are between Dunkin Donuts and OverEasy breakfast place. Clean store and very organized. I was greeted immediately by the owner, and I told him I was hoping to change the very beaten up power cord on my vacuum. Everything works on it still (it is a 15 year old, 90.00 Dirt Devil). Well, a new cord and labor was estimated at 60.00. Which is certainly reasonable as many parts have to taken apart. He saw I was hesitant and told me I may want to consider buying a new one for about the same price! He had one about the exact same one with some extra options for 90.00 or a smaller one for 60.00. He taught me about how the feature to turn the brushes off while vacuuming bare floors is desired to not kick up dust. He was very knowledgeable, professional. He told me he started in Brooklyn in 1988, and they have many great men working there over 20 years. (You just don't find this all too often). I made my purchase, and he helped me carry my old one back to my car. I left to have breakfast next door, then saw a Yelp check in offer... I went back to ask if this could still be used. Without any hesitation, he gave me my discount back in cash. I feel like a million bucks, and they deliver red carpet treatment! Aces. First of all, the repairman, Jose, was excellent and professional. It was the person who answered the phone, Alex, who was totally unprofessional and nasty. I had to call back the next day to say that the problem was still occurring. Jose had told me the day before that if it happened, just call and he would come back. No problem. Well, when I did ,Alex immediately gave me attitude. When I asked to please not have me wait long because I already waited three weeks, he said "It's your fault you waited three weeks." They are the most committed repair company I have ever had. My refrigerator stopped working, the technician came, they ordered the part, the part came, replaced the part, excellent. I paid a very far price for the whole thing and was very happy with the repair. The same day the freezer in the same unit stopped working...... the story is very long, it took several visits and two more parts, they solved the problem. They were very patient and gracious during this whole process. And all the necessary repairs and parts covered under the warranty of the first repair. Stick to appliances with them. I'm giving two stars for the two good experiences I had using them for Miele vacuum overhauls at work. I'm really unhappy with how they handled my recent stereo repair, and my receiver still has the same problem I brought it in with $80 later. The volume knob has been turning down by itself for years now. It's the only thing wrong with it and I don't want to replace it just for that, plus I'm sentimentally attached. Called Expert Center, was assured they can repair stereo parts. Lug the thing in from my house (it's big, it's heavy, I am neither.) Only when I get there do they tell me that "it might take two weeks." Okay, no problem, I am not in a hurry. Two weeks later, I call to check. "Our guy had personal problem. Next week he come in. I call you." No call back. Call the following week. "He's looking at it today. I call you." No call back. Call the following week after that, this is a full month after I have dropped it off with them. I'm ready to take it off their hands, get my $20 assessment fee back and bring it to the Gowanus Fixers Collective which happens to be meeting that night! But no, "the guy" has apparently been in that very day, all it needs is a new belt, do I approve the repair? Yes I do. When will it be ready? "I call you." No call back. Another week later, I call, the repair is supposedly complete. I go, pay the remaining $50, lug the amp home. When I get around to hooking it back up to the stereo system, the knob turns itself right back down! Not fixed! I call Expert Center, the guy will not refund my money without looking at the machine, I lug it all the way back to the store and show him a video I made on my ipod touch of the knob still turning itself down. "We fix it, I call you." No call back. A week later, I call, the re-repair is supposedly complete. The new belt was not threaded properly and slipped off somehow. They have offered to deliver it to my apartment, which is a nice offer, we schedule a time in the evening after I get home from work. I leave work early and rush home, I call them, now suddenly they are unable to bring it to me that night, we must reschedule for the following Monday. I call the following Monday and we schedule the delivery. I then am told the following statement, which I consider highly suspect: "I looked at it myself, it worked perfectly. If it does it again when you set it up at home, the guy said it is a problem with your system, like a short in one of the wires or something like that." I asked if they had reproduced the problem in the shop when I brought it in the first time, and he said yes. So how is that a problem with my system? Of course when I hooked it back up the volume knob turned itself right back down. Even if the problem is a short in my wire somewhere, I think it's pretty crappy that I never got a call back in the whole two months it took them to not do my repair. read more

The five-star rating is for ERC's appliance and electronics sales. I haven't used them for repair. Part of that is because what they sell at ERC is top-notch. Alex advised me early on to invest in quality products, and I must say that's paid off, because nothing has ever gone wrong with anything I've purchased from ERC (which to date includes a washing machine, a dryer, a dishwasher, and vacuum cleaner). My review is only regarding Miele. I own a Miele W/D, dishwasher, and vacuum. All are fantastic. The owner of this place really knows his Miele - knows the settings, the little tricks to get the machines to work even better, what products are useful and which are unnecessary. He sells all these products for the same price as online, and carries speciality European washer detergent (Persil and Perwoll Black). The only person I have met who knows more about Miele is the actual Miele rep at the NYC A&D building's Miele showroom. read more

I called Expert Center because my GE Profile refrigerator broke. Alex provided really great customer service over the phone (which is something you don't get often in Brooklyn). My technician was Sandro. He was really great. Professional and Knowledgeable. I was lucky that they were able to fix my refrigerator (it's the best it has worked in a year now). Sandro must have been troubleshooting it for close to two hours. I should also mentioned I called another company before them and they told me to throw it out. In the end they saved me thousands.
