Dr. Rush was my pediatrician and now he's my son's pediatrician 15 years after I stopped seeing him myself. He remembered my family and was truly interested in how everyone was doing. He was there at the hospital each morning after my son was born and has been so helpful through our first month of appointments. He will answer every question you have and cut through a lot of the conflicting information online. I am genuinely skeptical of the motivation behind some of the bad reviews- although it can be difficult to get an appointment on short notice. I recommend taking those with a grain of salt. I have suggested Dr. Rush to friends with babies and would trust him unconditionally with my child! read more

I love this office the staff is very friendly welcoming and easy to talk to. the RN is great there too and Dr. rush is just a wonderful Doctor. I chose this office when I delivered my baby at John Muir and now that I'm moving out of state I'm going to have to look for another Dr. But overall I've never had any issues and Would recommend Dr Rush to any one. Dr. Rush was my pediatrician when I was little. I remember crying and crying when my mom decided to change doctors. I remember I had a mad crush on him because he always had me laughing. His office back then was always cheery and bright. Im 45 now and I wish my kids had physicians they were receptive to as much as I was him. Back then Triaminic was all the rage, but my mom continued to smoke in the house. So nothing they did would really stop the ear infections. Dr. Rush was great then, Im sure he still is now! Dr. Rush was my pediatrician and now he takes care of my son. I cannot say enough good things about him! My son has a rare autoimmune blood disorder, and Dr. Rush picked it up at the sight of first symptoms. He is an excellent listener and always has my son's best interest at heart. We had a very uncomfortable and inappropriate well-child check for my daughter when she was 8. Dr. Rush didn't explain or ask about anything he was doing to my daughter. He touched her genitals and was then very shorts with her when she sat up to see what he was doing. She clearly wanted him to stop and was uncomfortable but he told her to lay back down . He seemed very easily agitated and was not communicating. I was in shock. Looking back I wish I would have stood up for my daughter and gotten her out of there right away. He should have a nurse or staff in the room when doing a physical exam. He should be talking us through it and asking permission during the checkup. The genital exam should only be a visual one - not touching. We switched pediatricians after that visit. Dr. Holden in Walnut Creek is wonderful! read more

He is great for many reasons but I don't think he would acknowledge a vaccine reaction. When reactions listed on the package insert are observed, they must be reported. I felt compelled to write a review mostly because I read the bad ones written here. All I will say is we've been seeing Dr Rush for 13 years. He has ALWAYS properly diagnosed my kids, he always errs on the side of caution and orders tests, xrays, trips to specialists when he deemed it necessary. He adores kids and is probably the hardest working dr ever. When I was in the hospital having our second child he was making rounds at 4 am before goin to see his regular patients at the office. He works late, I've NEVER not gotten an appointment the same day when they've needed to be seen. I love this dr. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a top notch pediatrician. He absolutely knows his stuff. I don't know all of the staff but Maryann and Jennifer are both top notch too! read more

I love Dr Rush! He's been my baby's pediatrician since he was born. Several nurses at John Muir WC recommended him to me. I can see why. He's a sweet man and incredibly efficient. You can tell he loves babies/kids. His staff have been really nice and accommodating as well. We had to take our baby to the ER late one night for breathing issues. Dr Rush and his staff were able to see us for a follow up visit the next morning. Oh, and they will not see you if you're more than 10 minutes late, which is completely understandable, to keep all appointments on time. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seen and we are in and out in a timely fashion. They run a well oiled machine!! Highly recommend! read more

He is the best. People that have negative reviews on here are either anti-vax or just think they know better than someone that went to medical school and has decades of experience. The review mentioning that he was inappropriate is absurd and just insane. He is a medical doctor. They are supposed to thoroughly examine all areas of the body, including genitals. It is not inappropriate. It is a medical exam. Quit making it into something that it isn't. I have watched him multiple times with my children and he is 100% just doing WHAT DOCTORS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. If you don't want a healthcare provider to be hands on, you need to speak up and say that you aren't comfortable with that. It is ok if someone isn't comfortable but don't act like he is doing something wrong. You are the one with the issue. Peoples' ignorance is baffling. By far the best pediatrician you could ever have for your kid(s). Both of my kids have been patients of his since birth (now 3 and 5) and now my third, who will be here soon. Dr. Rush is awesome! He actually takes his time to care for my little girl. Dr. Rush answers all my questions thoroughly and I do not feel rushed. I also love that he directly speaks to her too; He always asks her if he has any questions for him. (She's 6). So I absolutely love that. He makes my daughter feel very comfortable by asking her about her day, school, activities etc.. While doing his check ups. Finally, I loooove that they have a nurse just in case I have any quick questions I can just call and ask her. Not sure, what the bad review was about.. I had changed my son's doctors when he was still young. I have to say that i absolutly LOVE Dr. Rush. As a fist time mother I had many questions and the little thing that would show up on his body I was concerned. Dr. Rush had the time and patience to explain to me what it was and why I shouldn't be worried. He even makes my 3 year old feel very comfortable going in for visits. He becomes more of a friend to my son than his doctor. The office staff are very nice.. When you call to make a appointment for a sick visit you speak to an advise nurse first, which I think is actually pretty good because sometimes it's something minor that can be taken care of at home in which they give you at home advice, but if they feel that an appointment is needed they will let you do a same day appointment. Hands down HE IS A GREAT PEDIATRICIAN! read more

I literally CANNOT for the life of me, understand why people have said he isn't a good pediatrician or doesn't cares about kids??? My daughter is 6 months old and he has been seeing her since day 1. Dr Rush has always, and I mean always, been pleasant, caring, reassuring...I could really just go on and on about this mans bedside manner. He and his staff are amazing. He listens and gives great insight. I have nothing but great things to say about them all. There have been times when I've called in a panic (I'm a new mom, I'm sure you get it) and I've spoke with Mary Anne who is the head nurse. She is just as competent and informative as any doctor I've spoke to. My daughter does very well in their care and I will continue to be a patient of Dr Rush for any future children I have. read more

We arrived to our 8am appointment at 8:15am. Even though we left plenty of time, there was traffic and an accident nearby. My husband and I both took time off of work to come to this appointment and it was a big deal for both of us to do this. We explained this to the receptionist and we apologized for being late. She said we have to reschedule. She said the 8:30am came early and so Dr. Rush is seeing them early and will ask him if he will make an exception to see us after the 8:30 appointment. She asked him and he said no. I basically begged the receptionist to explain to him that taking off of work is very hard for us and please can he see us (meanwhile the 8:30 appointment left and no one was in the waiting room). She said, the doctor said no. Very disappointed at his decision considering the circumstance. We will not be using him as our pediatrician. read more

I'm not sure why this doctor gets so much raves. Maybe it's because he is the highest producing pediatrician for his hospital. He has poor clinical judgement when it comes to the care of my baby and he has the worst bedside manner. I don't even think he likes kids. If you want a caring pediatrician that takes the time to talk to you about the health of your baby and is spending more than 5 minutes with you in the room I would look elsewhere. Uncaring! My baby has been with him since newborn (4 years old now) she has major medical issues and could have permanent damage because of his poor clinical decisions!!!! Dr Rush has been caring for our two year old daughter since birth and we couldn't be happier. His office staff is accommodating and Dr Rush himself is kind with parents and children and really seems to focus his attention on the child, which I like. I also like that HE delivers the immunizations, not a nurse or other staff member. Because that is such a big part of the visits during the early years, I thought that was important. He allows Mom to hold baby while she's getting the shots which seems to minimize the trauma. I would highly recommend Dr Rush. read more

I had a great experience yesterday, my 8th grader is scheduled to leave for her 8th grade trip to D.C., Baltimore & N.Y. Friday at 3am, she has a cough due to seasonal asthma, and we were told again if our child was sick when they showed up to leave, they would not be allowed on the trip. Since she isn't sick, but the cough sounds bad, I asked if I could get a note explaining her issue and saying she is not sick. Jennifer at the front desk immediately put me with Marianne, who wrote such a great note (I thought of Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde, when she got the client's alibi, but wouldn't give it to the head attorney, saying, "it's a REALLY good alibi!". That's how good the note was. So thank you to the staff at Dr. Rush's for coming through for me so quickly and efficiently! We love you guys! read more

Dr. Rush is great. Very thoughtful when interacting with my 14 year old. Always respectful when engaging with me and asking if I have any questions or concerns. Dr. Rush was instrumental in proactively ordering a full peanut and tree nut allergy panel when my son had an allergic reaction at age 3. This provided us great insight He provides excellent recommendations of specialists when needed whether this be allergists, therapy, etc. Very much appreciate his approach. read more

BEST BY FAR, The best pediatrician I have ever had. I had four children. Two that he helped bring into this world while on vacation. Wisest Doctor I ever saw. My second, born dead, not only is healthy, but a brilliant mechanical engineer for Boing, but an incredible mother of a very severely disabled child and a very healthy 1 year old. Happily married. The other child he helped with, again while on his vacation is a deaf, fully functional Bio-electrical engeener with hisMasters, working towards his doctorate. Dr Rush was not only there for their birth, but as an incredible leader to insidights in raising my highly gifted, yet handicapped children. I so loved how he told me that the saying that children are born without an instruction guide was so untrue. That all the instructions were within us, we just had to follow that feeling. When I failed to do so where the only times I regret. He also taught me the importance of teaching Sandbox play, or social skills. I still quote him to my kids and family to this day. read more

Dr. Rush has been our pediatrician for 14 years. What makes that remarkable is that for 5 years he maintained a connection to our daughter while we were living out of state. Days before we moved she was diagnosed with a heart defect; he managed her care and coordinated with our Michigan doctors. Even the cardiologists at Children's Hospital in Oakland and at University of Michigan marveled that he had identified the defect so early and continued to watch over her care after we'd essentially left the practice. More than 1 top-rated doctor told us they'd never seen anything like it. When we moved back we were thrilled to have him back as the "go to" pediatrician for our girls. Dr. Rush provides exceptional care to our kids but more importantly they feel that they are more than "patients" to him. Our youngest has said, "Dr. Rush loves us." This review is about 13 years overdue. As a former Trauma/Level 1 SICU CCRN I specifically look for a blended approach of humanity and clinical excellence in medical professionals. We were referred to Dr. Rush several years ago and both my children have grown up with him as their pediatrician. One time, while I was grounded in Chicago during 9/11 for a week, our son had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. As his condition worsened (started bottoming out) my wife went into his office without an appointment after an ER and an Urgent Care center visit. The ER caused the issue and the Urgent Care doc was 'lost' as to what was going on. Within 5 minutes Dr. Rush knew specifically what was transpiring and took steps to reverse the serious reaction. That said, my wife was very relieved and I too - from Chicago when I could get through on the phone. I cannot say enough about him, his professionalism and bedside manner.
