My baby has only been seeing Dr. Nam for almost 4 months now and I already feel like this review is long overdue. We started taking our baby since she was born and ever since I met her when she came to check us in the hospital I knew we made the right choice on pediatrician. Dr. Nam is a spectacular doctor who is extremely knowledgeable, yet caring and sensitive to a parent's concerns. She is also very sweet and gentle with babies. Anytime I call or email her about a concern she is very quick to follow up with us and will take us in for a weight check at any time we need reassurance that our baby is growing well. She is very thorough when checking our baby for anything we need to be doing paying attention to, and overall I found that she has great recommendations on baby products. read more

We relocated to this practice (recommended by our OB) after a bad experience with our previous doctor. Dr. Nam was very helpful in explaining any questions I had and explained everything through specific medical terminology while breaking down what each word meant. My daughter and I were kicked out of Dr Lustig's office for saying "no" to the HPV vaccine. I'm a regular parent who vaccinates my kids. Dr Lustig told me I had to leave and find another doctor if I didn't vaccinate my daughter with the HPV. Sometimes I wonder if doctors are educated...or bought when it comes to medicine people don't want in their bodies. Did you know that even with the massive "vaccination" with HPV for ovarian cancers, there is in fact currently an explosion of ovarian cancers today? Makes one wonder. Does this remind you of something? Was he not watching the pharmaceutical companies get loaded pushing the covid shot even after it was obvious that it didn't stop the spread... and still push the covid shot on kids who are not affected in any significant way whatsoever? I walked out of there with my paperwork, never returning to a place where parents are insulted and have absolutely no reign over their child's health. I have my suspicions about his sudden "retirement." Good riddance. I gave the facility 2 stars for being conveniently located with parking. read more

Unbelievable, they have no idea what it is to be a mom, they have no respect and they dont care about your children ! excessively long wait times (whether it's a well visit or a sick visit): the soonest my son was ever seen by a doctor was 30 mins past appointment time, and the longest wait to be seen we experienced was 1 hour 20 mins past appointment time. I get stuff happens but to be consistently severely late shows there's an issue with scheduling and capacity planning. incompetence: took my 15 month old to be seen because he had a fever and then the next day a rash. Dr looked at his rash, hands, and feet, but did not check in his ears or look inside his mouth. He said it was just a viral rash and not to worry it would go away on its own. I asked "at what point should I be concerned if it's not going away?" And he said "if it's not gone in a week or if pus starts coming out of it." 2 days later the rash was getting worse so I took him to urgent care. He had strep throat and an ear infection. Urgent Care doctor was shocked to hear he had been seen 2 days prior as she said that the ear infection looked pretty bad. He also had huge white spots on his throat that again she was surprised a doctor would not have checked for/noticed 2 days prior. That's when I realized... the doctor at Walnut Creek Pediatrics never even checked his ears or inside his mouth when we went 2 days prior. In a separate incident I once called in to tell them my son had a weird rash (months before he had strep) and was instructed to send a picture to an email address and that a dr would review and get back to me within 24 hours. 24 hours later I had no response, so I followed up again via email. Never got a response so a couple days later I called to verify I had the right email address (I did) and they said someone would get back to me by EOD. To this day (months later) I've never gotten a response. Lastly, they are in dire need of a renovation (the office is old and dirty) and they have no way to interact digitally to access files/medical history, message your doctor, etc (besides sending an email to an email alias that apparently isn't monitored) read more

Ok so the office isn't the prettiest. This is true. It's old. Like many homes in Walnut Creek, and it probably requires many permits or city approvals to get much done in regards to updating it. But I will say, what lacks there is surely forgotten by how much we love our kids doctor. Dr. Nam. Originally we were planning to go with Dr. Kong and hadn't heard of Dr. Nam when I was pregnant with my first baby. Kong was referred to us by a friend who had him as child and now kids pediatrician. It so happened when our baby was born he happened to be out and Dr. Nam was working the hospital that weekend. We kind of fell in love with her bubbly, caring, and knowledgeable personality. A mom herself and around our age made her all more relatable. She even had part in after care of my nephews delivery. She knew some of my family already and they of course had nothing but great things to say about her. To be fair, we didn't give Kong a chance. I know he's great also but we decided to continue our care with Nam just by default of her being there that day and our interaction. What really impressed me was after my second child was born premature... right before Thanksgiving of 2021, she called and left the sweetest message to tell me she knew he had arrived. She was going out of town with family but wanted to drop me a quick message to recap what she knew and reiterate the expectation for care from here and that everything would be ok. I don't know, but in my emotional vulnerable and still very hormonal moment, that message brought tears to my eyes and is forever in my heart. With everything going on I didn't have a chance to call her to say he'd arrived but she was already on it. Both our babies continue to thrive and are as healthy as can be. We've followed all of Dr. Nam's instructions and have visited here or there for a rash or cold like symptoms. Sometimes their wait time once in a room is long but I can't help but think they are spending the extra needed time with another family before us just like I might need that day or in the future. Getting in for a Covid or flu shot has always been very fast and easy to schedule. If Dr. Nam isn't there for an urgent visit like when I was worried about my daughters fall. We know we can look to Kong or one of the other doctors to back her. Moral of the story, don't judge a book by its cover. read more

However, my son just went in for a 12-year-old check up and Dr. Lustig refused to see him because he had not received the HPV vaccine. This place is a total sh*# show. Left us waiting almost an hour for our first visit with a sick kiddo. Totally skipped over us without informing us. Never mind I had a preschool pick up for my older son. They couldn't care less. Super unprofessional staff. No one knows what's going on. I honestly wouldn't trust them with my kids' health. Doubly sad because our supposed to be new pediatrician wasn't there today, Dr. Nam, so I never got to meet her. She's supposed to be great, but the office is subpar. An update to give a shout out to Drs. Nam and Bo! These women are extraordinary. I have two daughters with complex chronic conditions. They are older now but these amazing doctors continue to work with them and they remain our first and best guidance for emergencies, sudden needs for a check up, rushing Covid medicines to a child, attentive personal phone calls in response to a problem discussed on email (moms, they DO read the emails!). Some reviews say they don't have bells and whistles but they personally call you, follow up with drs, send labs, refer when needed, and are not afraid of dealing with very complex cases. They are very knowledgeable doctors with a lot of compassion and experience. They remain as the best primary care we have had in our family. These ARE the doctors to trust with your baby or your kid, especially if your loved ones have unique conditions. Thank you Dr. Nam and Dr. Bo Espinoza! read more

Dr. Lustig has been our 4 kids' pediatrician since we moved to California 8 years ago .. and despite the fact that we've moved throughout the Bay Area several times since then, we still make the drive to Walnut Creek because of the fantastic care we get from Walnut Creek Pediatrics. This is what I love about Dr Lustig: ... that his office staff and nurses are so friendly and kind (special shout out to Alia: You are an amazing nurse and I can tell that you absolutely adore children, even the snotty and whiny ones!!). ... that Dr. Lustig is so respectful of the nurses at John Muir, and I'm impressed by how happy they always are to see him. ... that he always starts with a natural, non-medicated approach to treating my children, instead of rushing to write a prescription ... that he always takes my child's symptoms seriously, even when they are hard to describe ... that I found Dr. Lustig through the Berkeley Parents Network, when his wife posted about what a wonderful doctor her husband is. ... that he took his kids to Kenya for a year to practice medicine while his wife did research for Cal... what an experience! I could go on and on. For our family, he is the perfect mix of Berkeley progressive and Walnut Creek traditional. In years past was 5 stars because of Dr. Lustig. Currently should only be 1 star but gave 2 for past good years. Unfortunately this office has gone down hill, is in desperate need of remodeling or at least a thorough cleaning because it is dirty. The staff is stressed and cranky the overall service is rushed, unaccommodating as though they are being bothered to make an appointment. Plus they charge extra to fill out necessary athletic clearance forms?? After being happy for 15+ years, we are looking for a new doctor. read more

I was new to WC when I was pregnant with my son, so I had no idea where to look for a pediatrician. I asked around and Dr. Lustig came highly recommended. He's been absolutely fantastic! Very caring, very attentive, while also being kindly direct and informative. He reminds me of my own pediatrician, which is probably one of the reasons I like him so much! The office staff is also very friendly and compassionate. Dr. Nam is amazing! We switched to her on a friends recommendation when our now 6 month old was about 3 months and having issues with Acid Reflux. She is always available to answer questions/ offer advice, has such a great disposition, and has been so great to our family. The other thing I love about this practice is that there is always a doctor available to see you for same day appointments even if your assigned physician isn't available. I love Dr Nam!! She is a total doll, and treats my son like he is her own!! Also, she is very smart and has been able to help us through many different situations. It's not hard to get an appt, which I totally appreciate, bc as any mommy knows, everything is usually last minute. The doctors are ok, I guess.. I never felt that I left feeling fully informed or with the paperwork I requested to guide me in my new mommy journey. Not to mention I had appointment fear through the Covid year because the facility is OLD and the exam beds were so filthy. I would secretly wipe down the bed corners before I put baby up there and was embarrassed to tell the doctors of the mess they apparently were ignoring. They essentially dropped me as a client because I couldn't bring myself to take my daughter there. Maybe I was hypersensitive during 2020, but this place was not. We have been taking taking our children to the WC Pediatric Med Grp for over 20 year and Dr. Chula-Lim has been our children's primary physician for most of that time. The clinic is wonderful and Dr. Christina Chula-Lim couldn't be a more professional or caring doctor. Our kids love her, and so do we. The clinic will do everything they can to accommodate routine and emergency visits and requests - alway with a smile. Dr. Chula-Lim's "bedside manner" has been wonderful. She was great when our children were infants and continued to be a trusted person in their lives as they grew into young adults. 20 years ago someone recommended the clinic to us and we are very grateful for it, and even happier we found Dr. Chula-Lim. I don't think you can find a better pediatric group in the bay area. read more

The medical service was good, the people were very nice and I was so appreciative of the help they gave my son when we needed it. If I were rating on medical service i would give them a 5 and really that's the most important thing... However the medical billing was confusing and we ended up in a collection situation cause it wasn't clear we owed money and the insurance was complex. This company works with a Collection agency Rash Curtis and associates who has little integrity and no interest in helping people. the employees of Rash Curtis were rude, didn't help us solve our problem and were downright disrespectful. Therefore I have to hold the medical group accountable too. When I inquired with them to see how we could fix the misunderstanding... the medical group said that they now couldn't talk about it and to deal with the evil collection agency. brutal. read more

Here is what I found: 1. the office is older than the hills and 2. seems to be a bit disorganized. Once you get passed those facts, the service and doctors seem fine. All 3 of my children see Dr. Nam who is amazing! She takes the time to listen to all of our concerns and is very caring. I love that she asks about my other children when I am only there with one of them. We've also seen 2 of the other doctors when Dr. Nam wasn't in and they were equally as great. Dr. Chua-Lim has been our pediatrician for almost 20 years. If we could keep her forever, we would. She takes the time to really get to know her patients. She makes a point of making sure that girls don't succumb to the social pressures they encounter at school and through the media. She is great relating to all ages of patients, remembers their individual issues from visit to visit and always follows up on things. Both of my children have been hospitalized at John Muir and Dr. Chua-Lim checked on them constantly. During one of the hospitalizations, Dr. Chua-Lim wasn't satisfied with the way the doctor was handling my daughter's treatment and took over, much to our delight. Just fired my daughters pediatrician Dr. Chua Lim. I called in for an appt because my daughter was throwing up and suffering from severe abdominal pain. We showed up, my daughter has vomit on her because she threw up in the car, they took us into a room and only took her weight, didn't bother to take her temperature. Left us in there for an hour with no pillow and no blanket. No one came in the check on her. After an hour I took her to the restroom, got her dressed and walked out demanding her medical file. The doctor decided that was the time to try and talk to me, had the nerve to say she had come in but we were in the restroom, yeah right, after an hour. My daughter is miserable, she could have been home resting until I got her an appt at urgent care. read more

My children's pediatrician is Dr. Toby Lustig. He is AWSOME! I am a old kaiser holder and when my insurance changed I didn't know which way to go. So I went with "word of mouth" and I am very satisfied I always refer him or his colleagues to friends and family because they are all great caring and actually listen to your needs! My husband and I moved to Walnut Creek from Long Island, NY in Oct of 2011 with our then 15 month old. I was very concerned about looking for a new pediatrician because I liked the doctor we used in NY. Within one minute of meeting Dr Lustig all of my concerns flew out the window. My son has been sick quite often since we moved so we have probably averaged a trip to the doctors office once every 4 to 5 weeks. Dr. Lustig always greets my son and speaks to him like an adult. When one of the doctors was away, we also had Dr. Lustig step in for appointments and he also was wonderful. For me as a mom, it comes down to relationships and professionalism in medical care. The physicians in this practice have treated my children with outstanding care. They bring impressive knowledge and experience that has helped us through some medical challenges our kids faced. This practice does care about my kids, and they have developed relationships with my kids and me over the decades which is invaluable to me. I like having an ongoing history of medical care and relationships with doctors who know my kids well, and have seen them grow up from birth to their teen years. Yes the lobby, offices and exam room are a bit dated. But I have always found them to be clean whenever I've been there. But you know, in some ways for us as a family, it is familiar and homey. As my kids are growing up, I am somewhat sentimental and sad to see us transition away to "the adult doctor" for my eldest. Thankfully I still have one under Dr. Kong's care for now. The office staff has always been helpful to me, and I've never had difficulty with billing. We've always felt welcomed. Dr. Chua-Lim has been our (one and only) pediatrician for our kids for the past 16 years. I have never had a problem with her, or any of the doctors in this practice, and we have kept her as our doctor even as we have moved around the Bay Area. Coming from Oakland for 10 years was a pain, but completely worth it. Now that we are back in the Lamorinda area and are closer to the office - it's even better!
