I had high hopes for this place and had saved it for trying with visitors. It was a tourist trap. The price for the food - you could definitely eat better and more authentic Chinese food elsewhere. I believe it's because of the celebrity name that people like it. There are more theatrical things that might be the better choice but just standard Americanized Chinese dishes. We had 5 diffeeent things and everything looked the same color and they tasted like an amateur cooked them. For example the orange crispy beef was literally chewy! The chicken was so saucy and salty that you couldn't manage either 3 scoops of white rice with each bite. The breading was thick and the protein was dry. I had very high hopes for Philippe Chow, but unfortunately the experience was incredibly disappointing, especially given the price point. Our party of six was hosting an out-of-town guest and chose Philippe Chow because of its reputation. We dine out frequently and were looking forward to what we expected would be a memorable evening. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps, hot and sour soup (they were out of wonton soup), beef satay, shrimp satay, walnut shrimp, Peking duck, Shanghai noodles, pork pineapple fried rice, shrimp fried rice, several orders of spring rolls, and Chilean sea bass. The meal started off poorly. The lettuce wraps and hot and sour soup were so unappealing that we sent both back. The Peking duck, one of the restaurant's signature dishes, was carved tableside but was served cold. The accompanying pancakes were only lukewarm, which made the dish even more disappointing. The bright spots of the evening were the noodles, satay, spring rolls, and fried rice. Those dishes were enjoyable and were the only items that met our expectations. To make matters worse, we never received the Chilean sea bass we ordered, which may have helped redeem some of the evening. For a bill approaching $700, the overall quality and execution were simply unacceptable. The most telling part of the experience is that after spending nearly $700 on dinner and another $50 on parking, we left the restaurant and went elsewhere to eat because we were still hungry and unsatisfied. That should never happen at a restaurant operating at this price point. What makes this even more frustrating is that we specifically chose Philippe Chow to entertain an out-of-town guest. Instead of showcasing a great dining experience, we were left embarrassed by a meal that was overwhelmingly lackluster. Sadly, our party will not be returning. With the restaurant's reputation, pricing, and prestige, our expectations were high. If you're in the mood for upscale Asian cuisine, this is the place to go. The atmosphere was nice with views of the water, there was a jazz band playing that night, but not overly loud, and the staff and service were very attentive. The dumpling sampler was delicious and had some of the best veggie dumplings I've ever had. The inside had crunchy veggies instead of a bunch of mush. The chicken and shrimp ones were good too, but I liked the green one the best. I know, right? The Sea Bass was out of this world outstanding. It was sliced into thin pieces and served with two sauces. This fish was melt in your mouth delicious, so whoever prepared this knew what they were doing. And how in the F did they slice that so perfectly? With a diamond knife? The only miss was the Hot and Sour soup... It looked amazing, but alas, it came out and it wasn't hot (temperature). Very attentive, personable, and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. Also want to highlight Jorge, who helped clear our table. Between us we had the dumpling sampler, the scallion pancake, the Chilean sea bass with two kinds of sauces, the shanghai noodles, and he shrimp spring roll. The dumplings were adequate. Although I've heard of Philippe Chow, I hadn't dined here before. For my first dining experience of 2026, they earned a spot in my heart and a five-star review. Honorable mention to our server Victor, the manager, and everyone who made our experience stellar. They were very responsive and corrected any missteps without having to mention it. They do have a bar, and if you'd like, you can dine or just enjoy drinks. This is a good place for solo dining, date night, and group celebrations. Reservations are highly encouraged. Do know that if you order the duck, there can be a 45-minute wait before it is served. Coat check is available. A parking garage is available nearby, as street parking is rare. When the weather supports, there is outdoor seating with fire tables and a scenic view of the Wharf. The appetizers of calamari and wontons (veggie, chicken, and shrimp) were great. My kiss of the dragon sidecar was very refreshing and worth ordering again. Dining here with others presents an opportunity to share and explore the menu. I found the shrimp fried rice and broccoli à la carte items to be enough for the table, with leftovers for the next day. The crispy duck entree comes with thin wraps. Went here with my best friend after work we wanted to have a nice meal at the Wharf and we were in the mood for some Asian food. We saw that Philippe Chow is top rated and decided to visit. Our waiter Andre was very nice and had great recommendations for appetizers. We decided to get the scallion, pancake and fried pork dumplings. Both of them were delicious. I really enjoyed the scallion pancakes and the vinegar sauce that I came with. He also suggested that we get two entrées to share because the food is family style but medium sized. We decided on the sesame chicken and the filet mignon with green beans both of the dishes were absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the sesame chicken. I would definitely get that again. If you're a beef person, I think the filet mignon is the best way to go. They also gave us a complementary bowl of white rice, which was nice surprise. I like the restaurant in the ambience of it was cool and the music outside was popping. I do suggest getting two appetizers and two entrées, if you're with two people. I took my parents to Philippe Chow for Christmas Eve for the second year in a row, and it is officially becoming our holiday tradition. We started at the bar, where Blanca was amazing. She made a great espresso martini for me, a perfectly crafted Woodford Old Fashioned for my dad, and a delicious chocolate martini for my mom. We also enjoyed the chicken and beef satay, vegetable dumplings, and spicy edamame. The ambiance was beautiful and festive with a stunning Christmas tree, great holiday music, softly dimmed lighting, and a cozy view of the fire pits outside. I visited Philippe Chow for a work dinner and we went with the Golden Tasting Menu ($115) plus the Peking Duck upgrade. As someone who's gluten-free (and doesn't eat pork), I really appreciated that I could enjoy almost all of the courses--everything except the dumplings, spring rolls, vegetable lo mein, chocolate trilogy cake, and spare ribs. We also had branzino instead of Chilean sea bass, which was a great swap. Everything I tried was delicious -- the Beijing Chicken, Filet Mignon, Spicy Prawns, vegetable fried rice, veggie stir fry, and sautéed broccoli were definite standouts. For drinks, I started with an Espresso Martini with tequila (yum!) and then tried the Split King. I asked if it was sweet and was told "not too sweet," but it ended up being very sweet for my taste. If you prefer refreshing, less sugary cocktails, I'd pass on this one. Service was phenomenal! The staff was warm, attentive, and incredibly allergy-aware. They clearly flagged what I could and couldn't eat and made me feel totally taken care of. For a group of ~30, they kept everything running smoothly without ever feeling rushed. We dined in a private room that comfortably seats 30. The space is chic and upscale, but very dim, with more of a romantic, moody vibe. Attended the Moët & Satay event at Philippe Chow expecting a bit more than what we experienced. The social media promotion gave a mix and mingle, buffet style vibe with opportunities to socialize or be seated but it felt more like regular dining. There was some initial confusion at check-in when we were given a standard menu despite having event reservations. It was corrected, but we were first seated at a very small corner table that didn't seem suitable for a champagne bucket and four-course meal. After expressing our concerns, they did move us, which we appreciated. The food was just okay, the Moët was honestly the highlight. Overall, it didn't feel like an "experience" as advertised. Disappointing experience at Phillipe Chow when we came here for my birthday. We all ordered the Golden Tasting Experience which unfortunately somehow took 4 hours to get through. The food was not even hot when it came out. I will say the appetizers on the tasting menu were pretty good, but the main entrees were lacking besides the spicy prawns. The Beijing Chicken was extremely sweet and the filet mignon with green beans wasn't seasoned well. The biggest disappointment though was the Peking Duck we got as a $20 add-on for the tasting menu. I'm not sure how you make Peking Duck chewy, but they somehow managed to do it. Dessert was decent overall though. Just when you think that many restaurants consider customer service an options or a nice feature it was a great experience at Phillipe Chow putting this first and foremost. Big thank you to Victor and the entire staff for making this a great visit. More on this later on. On a recent trip to Nashville I saw Phillipe Chow and said to myself I would not mind trying this place out. Never got a chance in Nashville but got lucky to see there was one in DC. We decided to check out a few items on the menu. Okay we ordered a lot of items on the menu that included salt and pepper calamari, dumpling sampler, mandarin red chili chicken, crispy duck, shrimp fried rice, chicken fried rice, fortune cookie red velvet cake, and chocolate trilogy cake. Yes, it eventually ended up getting packaged up and the leftovers are always coming home. I am a fan of calamari, and I think many of us have become accustomed to it prepared Rhode Island style (peppers, lemon, marinara) but I enjoy it more salt and pepper style. Fried lightly with a nice crunch and despite wanting to dive in, I warn you that it will be coming out hot. This was the perfect appetizer to me as I am a bit of a calamari snob. We also decided to go with the dumpling sampler of shrimp, veggie, and chicken. The choices of appetizers can actually form a full meal and is great if you or the party you are with want to sample a bit of everything. Now on to the main course. I went with the Mandarin Red Chili Chicken. I do wish it had a bit more kick but I also understand that spice levels are very subjective. No regret on going with this. Now back to customer service. There was a small mix up as we got chicken fried rice instead of the shrimp fried rice. It was a quick fix and no harm, no foul as the correct order came out quickly with no interruption to our meal. I decided to celebrate my birthday dinner here with my sister and a couple of close friends. I wanted Asian food, so decided this would be the spot and I liked the ambiance and menu when I researched online. I will say the service was impeccable. Our waitress was really attentive and made me feel special. She gave us all complimentary champagne and then also gave me a red velvet cake at the end of the night. I was also in the middle of two other tables celebrating birthdays, and they also received similar service. All the waitstaff worked together to clear the tables and check in, so that was great. The food was decent. I would say there were more limited options overall for a Chinese restaurant, but there were a few classic dishes. We had the glazed ribs to start, and those were pretty thick slabs of pork. I thought they could have been a bit more marinated and seasoned, but they weren't bad. For entrees, my sister and I split the pineapple fried rice with chicken and the sesame chicken. Both dishes were delicious and enough to share between two people. The pineapple fried rice actually was served in a sliced pineapple so the presentation was great, and the sesame chicken satisfied my cravings. I came here for dinner. For drinks I had the lychee martini and the paradise bay. The lychee martini didn't taste like other lychee martini's I've had and I wasn't a fan of the cream in it. I liked the paradise bay cocktail. It was sweet and fruity. The truffle pork soup dumplings and Beijing chicken were good but there wasn't anything special about them. The crispy beef was probably my favorite from the dishes I tried. I liked the flavor and the crispiness of it. The salt and pepper prawns were good but it was a bit overpriced for what it was. After an event downtown, my homegirl and I wanted a nice chill place to grab a cocktail and maybe a little something to snack on. After checking out a bunch of places in the Wharf area, I decided that Philippe Chow would be a good spot. We sat at the bar and unfortunately weren't greeted right away as there was only 1 bartender and the bar manager working. However, the rest of the service for the evening was great. I ordered the We Are Gathered drink and shrimp spring rolls. Both were super delicious. My friend ordered the crispy duck rolls (which were amazing) and the salt and pepper eggplant (which came with a spicy Marinera sauce). Everything was excellent. The ambiance was great! I went with outdoor dinning because the weather was amazing. I had a delish strawberry lemon drop , chicken wonton soup, 9 spice prawns , green beans in garlic sauce, white rice, and beijing chicken. My favorites were the 9 spice prawns 10 out of 10 , the flavorful string beans , and strawberry lemon drop. The service was impeccable. My server Anthony provided excellent food recommendations and made me feel comfortable in my solo dinning experience. The management staff came over to check in on my care.
