One of the things I especially appreciate about Dr. Moy is that he stays up to date with the most current approaches to dentistry and he always includes me in decisions about my treatment plan. Recently, I needed to have a crown replaced as it was beginning to fail. (original injury was a broken tooth as a child, crown had last been replaced 30 years ago). I was thankful that Dr. Moy and team were on the case. While going through the process to replace the crown, Dr. Moy identified an issue in the root structure of the tooth and the surrounding tissue. This required a root canal in addition to the crown replacement, but the tissue surrounding the root needed to heal first. We worked together to monitor and remedy the situation. Throughout the process to remedy the situation, after each step of the treatment plan, the team at Moy Dental would either call or text to see how I was doing. Because of Dr. Moy's experience and expertise, we were able to save the tooth and now I have a new permanent crown. Further back in our history, we worked together to correct a bite issue I was having that was causing me pain. Invisalign Braces, which was a new approach to orthodontia at the time, was the solution for me. This was important to me to have invisible braces as I felt more confident in my work environment with Invisalign vs. traditional braces. He reviewed pictures from my dental history before coming in to examine me. Dr. Ching sat down and reviewed my medical history with me and asked what I wanted out of treatment, as this affects my treatment plan. He talked with my mom and I for 15 minutes or so giving us information and answering questions before he ever looked in my mouth. He seemed very thorough yet gentle in his examination. I felt very at ease and able to trust him, and I will be returning here for surgery next month, and may have an update at that time. UPDATE: I've had 3 surgeries now by Dr. Ching, and my high opinion of him stands. I experienced very little pain with my gum grafts. The nitrous oxide was free upon request, and he was very understanding of my laughter in the middle of the procedure. I chose not to take the antibiotics he prescribed prior to each surgery (as a precaution) and he was perfectly okay with me making that choice, rather than giving me a bad time for not following his directions as a narcissistic doctor would. He's a very caring man, and wanted me to come back for a final checkup. He asked me to bring pictures of the wedding, since it was after the fact. Caring, knowledgeable, gentle. The office staff is just as friendly. They seemingly remember anyone they talk to. My last visit he asked if I had any questions, and I asked him about proxabrushes, since the ones a previous periodontist had given me were helpful. He loaded me up with a bunch for free so I should be set for a few years, anyway (these things cost like $2-3 each at Walgreens). I definitely recommend him to anyone!

After several years as a client, however, everything changed one day when I was grilled by this doctor as to why I wasn't able to make bigger payments. I have only $1000/yr dental "insurance" (if you want to call it that). This amount never seems to suffice. I attempted to explain to her I had been playing catchup with my 401K retirement. I was at that time putting in the maximum, about 40% of my pretax wages into it. Since she drives a Mercedes and obviously needs my $$ to keep up her lifestyle, she didn't believe me at all. Since she wouldn't let me, at the end, she had me in tears. Obviously someone who has very little understanding for a working woman, even though technically she is one. I would recommend her, but only if you have unlimited funds for dental care. They have free parking, if it matters. She does take Dental Dental.

I came last week for a cleaning and from the moment I walked in the door I felt great about the place. Min greeted me warmly and as I walked in, I noticed a baby bouncing around behind the counter. I don't have children myself, but I am so happy to see a business normalize having a child around because childcare is too expensive and complicated for many folks, plus it's so important to see a child have an opportunity to have quality bonding time with their parents. When I went to get x-rays, Jen was efficient and warm, and made sure I had what I needed to feel comfortable. I do t have dental anxiety myself, but I appreciated that Dr. Khalil and Jen checked in on me often to ensure that I was comfortable. At today's appointment, I got a deep cleaning and some cavities filled. Between Dr. Khalil and Jen, their bedside manner was calm and comforting , and I felt very at ease. I have recommended this dentist to my spouse and he's coming here for a second opinion because I feel very strongly about this dentist office. Oh, and they have a BLM sign out front, which is definitely the right move in today's day and age.

But the dentist let me know that I would need dental implants in the future and when I asked him what that would mean, he told me to Google for more information, paused, and then told me more. And I looked at my insurance billing and I don't think even think I had the fluoride treatment but I was "charged" for it. We scheduled a follow-up two weeks out for some fillings but then they cancelled and rescheduled this follow up 3 times. I will not be returning to this office after the third cancellation. This is especially frustrating for someone who has to notify their workplace in advance. Edit: I went to another dentist in San Leandro who told me that I didn't have cavities and didn't need the fillings. Saved myself 200 bucks by getting a second opinion.
