The they brought me back into pre-op and my nurse Nicole was AMAZING and they put in my IV and my anesthesiologist came in and was super cool, Dr. Potter. Then I don't remember much after that, except waking up in the recovery room and they decided to keep me overnight. The night nurses were great and I had a breakfast sandwich for breakfast, which was actually pretty good. I did some PT and OT before checking out and they were both fantastic. A great experience overall, with super caring nurses and doctors.

I had a 10 hour cervical surgery on a Wednesday and got to my room at 8:30 pm. The next morning (Thursday), the discharge nurse came to talk about releasing me on Friday. I told her my pain was not under control. They did release me at noon on Friday because I passed PT and OT and "upped" my Oxy for pain management. (I really felt like I was being kicked out, and was not given enough information on what to expect going forward.) My pain shifted to my back on Saturday and I ended up in the Methodist ER for 6 hours. They just gave me the same pain meds I had been prescribed and wanted me to take an MRI. I couldn't even lie still I was in so much pain. At 2am, we just walked out without any resolution. It was also a HORRIBLE experience.

The registration process was fairly seamless, and the doctors were kind and focused on my children's experience. When we took my youngest child, it was a little bumpy, or than when we took my oldest last night. However, in both instances, the doctors were beyond excellent. The nurses were kind and responsive as well, but the bedside manner of the doctors was what stood out this trip. One concern I do want to notice is that there seems to be a glitch in their medication ordering system, which did not permit the nurse to get the medication needed within a timely manner. Apparently, this has been going on for days and the health staff have brought this forward for internal review multiple times. I hope this gets fixed as it does. Sit back there a patient's healing process when medical providers have to wait for medication.

My husband is 79, just moved from 11 years in Florida to Mn in January. Terrible healthcare in FL!…read more Zero annual physicals zero cardiologist. So 3 weeks after the 1600 miles he drove in 3 days ( fl to Mn), he had a MASSIVE heart attack right in the office ( 5 minutes fr HCMC ER) of our 25 year primary care doctor! WHAT luck! So in 10 minutes of the EKG test, he was in the ER!!! After 3-4 hours in surgery, one surgeon came out and said," his main artery in the rear of heart was 95% blocked and he would have survived for only 90 minutes... we put in two stints". HCMC ER is nationally rated as " the top ER Level One trauma center and number one in the entire Midwest ". Level one means they can handle anything - - gun shot wounds to head, chest, stomach the most deadly spots, falls out of buildings, MASSIVE car crashes, etc etc. My father taught biochemistry 40 years in a NYC med school and taught us how to care for all others in any situation. My husband post surgery, was hospitalized in HCMC for 4 days and entered their special Cardio Physical Therapy Program = 3X a week/full hour/for 3?months!! The hospital stay was outstanding in ALL respects. The nurses were attentive, and the post heart attack education done by a special doctor was SO excellent... my husband who has been a heavy smoker for 68 years... COLD TURKEY stopped smoking immediately. HCMC's post cardio physical therapy program is Rated NUMBER 1 in the Twin Cities. We agree 100%. First the 4 physical therapist's take your blood pressure and sugar/ glucose level every 15 minutes during the hour session. All of them are joyous, effervescent enthusiastic warm caring GENUINE folk! Just love them all! They play low, any kind of music you want and LIFT your spirits with their laughter. This is a major major reason why my husband recovered so completely. (And he contracted the same deadly pneumonia that killed the famous race car driver after just 5 weeks in physical rehab) We are most most grateful for this rare rare team of great folk.

The cost was NOT exorbitant (though I must admit - wish it was less...) I'm still alive,eh?read more

I feel like I am a very easy going patient, I don't have high expectations but communication and cleanliness are my biggest things. I have had difficulties in the past with poor english speaking nurses and there is nothing worse then looking at junk on the floor and throughout the room and know I am stuck in bed and can't go over and throw things in the garbage, but shouldn't this just be expected. This experience was better then others with clear speaking nurses but the lazier nurses that left needle covers on y bed, garbage on the floor even my blood pressure couch just thrown on the chair so who moves that if I want to sit in the chair, I saw the thermometer dangling inches above the floor, I know they put covers on them but this is just sloppy. I need to share the name of the worse nurse I had B.J. I asked if someone would be available to help me take a walk after breakfast, repose...oh sure, so after breakfast ask for help and am told maybe after lunch, then asked after lunch and was told well your going to be going home today anyway so no walk. Then learned I am going to be discharged today, great news until it wasn't. 3 hours later am told that the hospital pharmacy filled my prescriptions that I would be going home with, but now they are closed (2:30 Sunday afternoon) Because of this my home pharmacy could not fill them as they had already been filled. So I am told I have to stay another night. Seriously? So ok, guess I will be going home Monday so Monday morning Dr comes through for morning rounds and I am told it will probably be after lunch until discharge, ok so repeat of Sunday I ask for a walk after breakfast (Physical therapy) I was told yes, someone would be in soon, 2 hours later asked for a walk again and am told we are bu8sy and you are going home today anyway. I was shocked!!! Isn't this a good thing that I am wanting to get some PT in. So finally about 1:30 nurse comes in and goes over discharge paperwork. Ok got it all covered calling my fiancé I am ready to go, then I look over the paperwork and see I am scheduled for a brain and spine appt then next page I see they have me on gabapentin, I hate that drug and nobody talked to me about adding it. Then look closer and see oh here's the problem, my name is now Cynthia. Now I am very concerned and just need to get out of here before a bigger mistake happens. WOW Hospital is where you need to have 100% trust. Pretty scary knowing that I put my trust in this place.

Usually I absolutely love west health and will come here over anywhere else. This is hands down the most uncomfortable and terrible experience we have had. She needs to go do literally any other job!! I have to give it a 1 because it makes you but if I could it would be zero. Even the respiratory nurse decided to do help us, apologized and did his vitals in the chair because he is unable to walk. how are we supposed to trust someone in health care that lies directly to your face!!!!
