We eat breakfast here everytime we visit Red Deer. The food is great and so are the staff. I'm not sure how Phil's find the friendliest people in Red Deer but we hope they keep doing so. The restaurant is bright, spacious and clean. The interior is a little old fashioned but that is all part of its charm. Takeout Order. Breakfast or Brunch, Phil's is the place! I got introduced to Phil's on my last trip to Red Deer as it was highly recommended by my girlfriends family. After looking at the menu I decided to stick with the classic, Eggs Benedict (eggs prepared soft) and a side of hash browns. When the order arrived, I opened up my meal and felt I was about to be disappointed as the presentation was nothing special. I was wrong. I took my fork and knife and cut into my eggs and they were perfectly cooked the way I like it. The creamy yolk popped open and spread out all across the English muffin and mingled right in with the hollandaise sauce. I took my first bite. It was declicious. The English muffin was incredibly fluffy and the hollandaise sauce was creamy and delicate. I was thoroughly surprised seeing as the presentation didn't do justice. I'm inclined to give this restaurant 5 stars but I have only had takeout from Phil's. I'll leave the last star for their service. This is a perfect example of how not to judge a book by its cover. read more

Went back to Phil's recently with a couple of friends. It was a little later in the afternoon, we didn't have to wait, but the restaurant was pretty busy. I ordered a coffee, and some apple cinnamon pancakes (the three not the five) with a side order of bacon. Actually all of my friends decided to sub apple cinnamon pancakes in their breakfasts instead of the regular buttermilk. Let me tell you the apple cinnamon pancakes are always worth it. I'm not sure why I ordered the bacon since the three stack of pancakes were filling enough. The rest of the menu always has some really delicious looking options, like the eggs benedict, but I always default to the pancakes. They're always good. read more

Oh Phil you beautiful SOB! I Love this restaurant. There are so many menu choices it is difficult to decide. Crepes? Waffles? Pancakes? Omelettes? You can have it all. I always go for the potato pancakes with a side of pork chubbies. Delicious!! The food is always fresh and hot and served with a smile. Came here for my mom's birthday with her church friends. Excellent service for our large group. I had Ruben and it was good. The big hit was the Sheppard's pie baked potato. Just like it says. A baked potato make into a personal Sheppards pie. Will make this at home some day. The other special was a chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms and spinach and baked with cheese. This also was well liked. Talking to the Phil's veterans, they often have interesting and original specials here. read more

Customer service was non existent. The servers made fun of my husbands name because it wasn't a classical "white" male name, as they called us to our table. When we first walked in and asked for a table, we heard them making fun of us for calling ahead to ask for a table, as if it wasn't a completely normal thing to do. I am appalled that a manager would allow this unprofessional nature to happen. It also took them 15 minutes to come take our order even though we were being extra polite to look past how they originally treated us. read more

Sat at our table for close to 30 min before someone took our order. Waited another 60 and our food was not even cooked. Two families came in after us by about 20 min. They got served, ate and left. Manager gave some bills hit excuse that our food was not ready due to when it's put in the computer. As we were leaving an hour and a half later the manager said our food was just coming up. Phil's used to be the best breakfast place in town. It's been going down hill for the past few years. Incorrectly cooked eggs(they can't cook a medium egg with soft yolk for their lives, don't bother asking. just ask for 8min poached egg if you don't like your whites runny or your yolk hard as a rock. There is no in-between for these people) , undercooked hashbrown, rude waitresses, blaming the customer for ordering their eggs correctly is the standard fair here. By the way I say standard fair because I have been holding out hope against hope that they would change their ways and go back to how Phil's was 5-10 years ago. But after 5 years of terrible food and service I'm calling it quits. This review will be my last association with Phil's Diner. I'm sorry Phil. It's not me its you. read more

Went here with my family for dinner , the staff were super friendly !! Downside food was absolutely disgusting , tasteless , bland and darn right awful ! Overpriced for a place that is so dam old and I wouldn't mind paying high if the food actually tasted good ! My husband had the fish and chips and the plate was swimming in grease , my kids had the fries and pancakes and couldn't eat either as they said it was disgusting and I mean fries are fries they wouldn't even eat them ! I had the turkey club which had processed cheap ass cheese and had no flavour what so ever ! So disgusted with the food $60 for 2 kids and 2 adults and we all drank water ! Phil's. The original coffee shop with all day breakfast and the unlimited coffee carafe. The servers screw up a lot but usually make good. The only issue, when you mess up the same meal three times maybe offer up a discount? Or just pay for it. 5's only because I just can't quit you Phil's! read more

Very disappointed with Phils. Paid just under 30.00 for two gluten free waffles they were so dry and hard they were gross. Because my husband is celiac I am used to paying 3 times more for gluten free food but this was ridiculous . We will never be back. read more

I used to love this place. I would try to visit once a week if possible. Now it's garbage food and coffee. The service had still been great up until I stopped visiting but obviously the owner/management is getting cheap in the quality of product they buy and the cooks just simply can't cook. read more
