Kind of a lackluster vibe inside it feels a bit empty and strange how their bar is wide open. That said, I enjoyed my s'mores cold brew. The pecan apple monkey bread danish was a bit dry but yummy flavor. They also had a couple scone options and I'm a sucker for a scone! The three people working were super kind, warm, and friendly, which means the world to me at a coffee shop!!! I feel like they should really redesign the tables inside and have better/more seating. What makes this coffee shop different from other coffee shops is that it has unique drinks. My favorite drink to get there is the Yuzu iced tea. My go to for beans - Philtered Soul hits the spot consistently with it's punch of hazelnut flavor. The drinks are made to order and always a delightful and unique concoction. A must try is the mojito coffee. The seasonal drinks are always fun. Service is nice and generally pretty quick. The space is bare/to the point and has a few seating tables for small groups. My first Philz experience! I was surprised I had never heard about Philz when I realized this coffee shop has a significant following. All their coffee is brewed, no espresso. They have cold brew, iced coffee, and pour overs, plus a significant menu of specialty drinks with flavoring. At first, this kind of reminded me of Mary Lou's (for you New Englanders) but I actually loved my experience. Off the menu, I chose the mojito iced coffee. I love mint and coffee together so I really enjoyed this coffee. I got medium sweetness and medium creaminess. Unlike other places, they don't overdue the sweetness - medium was barely sweet, which is the way I like it. The coffee even had a generous heap of fresh mint leaves (which I guess for $7 makes sense). Everyone who worked here was really friendly and offered to make any adjustments as they handed you your coffee. I'm still an espresso / iced latte fan at heart, but I really enjoyed this elevated brewed coffee cafe. Will stop at Philz next time I have the chance! read more

This location is literally my go to location whenever I want coffee. The people here are super nice and quick at making drinks. I think there was one time I had an issue with the sugar/cream level and they immediately adjusted it on the spot for me. This is why I keep coming back to Philz Coffee. They will always tell you to try your drink before handing you the lid to close your drink in case you're unhappy with it and will adjust it until you're satisfied. My order is always a large mint Mojito iced coffee with regular cream and sugar. Every time I take a sip of the mint Mojito I just think of eating coffee ice cream with just the perfect amount of sugar. I recently got into their seasonal drink, which is the tiramisu latte. I cannot stop talking about their tiramisu latte to my friends and family so I took my cousin here last week. She ordered a hot tiramisu latte because it was cold outside, but I stuck with my original iced tiramisu latte. She took a sip in her eyes lit up. I was like isn't it insanely good? Basically, if no one has ever been to this coffee shop, then they need to because they are so freaking good. I was in search of a caffeinated pick me up before going on with the rest of my day, and in the mood to branch out from my go-to Starbucks. The pastries and other food offerings in the case looked intriguing, although it seemed like Peet's or Starbucks have more options in terms of day-long offerings (sandwiches, salads) and grab-and-go items. For coffee, all of the creations are proprietary to Philz. There is really nothing like an Americano, latte, etc. on offer, rather the menu features the store's own creations. I went with a facsimile of a house blend, a medium-roast Tesora, with cream. The drink, a pour-over, was crafted with care and was smooth. Certainly not as speedy as a coffee with a splash of cream added, but good to change things up. As other reviewers pointed out, there is seating indoors and a few outside tables. My family and I came in for a little break, and we definitely were glad we did! I am not much of a coffee drinker, but the drinks here were extremely smooth and artisanally crafted. Our son also seemed to enjoy the blueberry lemon muffin. While not a lot of seating, there was just enough to allow us to be in a more secluded part of the store so my youngins didn't disturb other patrons. Philz is a favorite of mine and the hubby and I go to the San Diego stores at least twice a week, so it was an easy decision when it came to where we should grab a mid-day pick me up. This location on Chicago Ave was half a mile away from our hotel and an easy walk, so we stopped in and hung out before heading off to our next adventure. My go to in the afternoon is always tea, so I ordered a small hot Istanbul Treat Philz Way with medium cream and honey. Istanbul Treat is my favorite tea at Philz because of the licorice and mint notes. For coffee, I either get the Dancing Haze or Mocha Tesora. The hubby on the other hand orders the Philtered Soul Train in the morning and sticks to their House decaf with light cream, no sugar in the afternoons. It's a large comfortable space with huge windows to watch the city go by, so take a load off and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. read more

I've always wanted to try Philz & finally got the chance to this weekend. Pretty typical coffee prices for the city. Decent sized inside, a few tables before inside and out- nice ambiance clean. Tons of different flavor options which I loved. Another cool this is you get to customize a lot - iced/hot, your level of creaminess, & your level of preferred sweetness. I loved that part never seen it before. I went with Dancing Water & a seasonal Mojito one. Both were good but for some reason watery? I could taste the coffee but it was watery. Don't understand all the positive reviews to be honest. Having had Philz from multiple locations in the Bay Area for years, this location has never lived up to that standard. Popular drinks such as the rosé, ecstatic, mocha tesora do not even come close to the taste and quality as they do in California. The service is also much poorer here. No friendly faces, conversations, etc. This experience is specific to this one barista who I have also seen at every visit. Let's just say this is how he greets us every time "hi .. -_-.." I regularly get my Philz from the Lincoln Park location and LOVE ordering from there. Always consistent, always tasty and well balanced. I was really excited to visit this location when visiting the area, but left very disappointed after my regular order tasted completely different at this location... No refreshing sweetness w the Mint Mojito, almost completely honey and no cold brew in the Honey Haze. I modified my coffees once I got home. Maybe it was because the store closed in 30 minutes?
