I decided to give this place another try after a poor experience years ago. Nothing has changed. I was kept waiting for 30 minutes as she did her moms nails despite me having an appointment. Her daughter did my pedicure and Phinne did my manicure. The exfoliation of my feet during the pedicure was a plus but the application of the polish was substandard. A thick glob was applied to the center of the nail and then spread out. Power tools were used to remove the gel manicure from my fingernails and there were times it was painful as she wore down my nails. My nails are now continuously breaking because she thinned them so much. I will continue to drive to Burlington for better quality. read more

Went for two pedicures with my sister on 9/10/2020. My nail technician, if you can call her that, was face timing the entire time. My sister's pedicure started before me and mine ended at least 15-20 minutes before hers. It was rushed and so sloppy. I could had done the same thing in my own home for free. My water was cold and the cost is ridiculous for the service you get. $80 for two pedicures at this "salon" is out of control. I would not recommend to anyone. Go somewhere else even if you have to drive a bit further. I wish we would had read reviews ahead of time. read more

I have so much to say about this place. First off, the SMELL is disgusting. Something is clearly rotting inside the building it was overpowering. Our appointment was at 545. It's 738 and we JUST left. Prices on website are not correct. She asked for 55 for a full set, 50 for A FILL. Her website states 40 for a full, 23 for fill. ABSOLUTELY INSANE. *RUN*, don't walk away from this mess of a "nail salon". Firstly, before I go down the litany of how horrible this place is, I would like to state that the gentleman who works there is a kind and lovely human being. His coworkers (ie, wife and daughter), not so much. I went to this place a few weeks back to get a last minute mani before my sister's wedding. It was not a good manicure, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and decided to go back this weekend. Hey, nobody is perfect all the time, right? I'm always one to try and give someone a second chance. Just for the sake of efficiency, take a moment to consider the price for this mani/pedi service: $53... and that's before tip. Anyway, the daughter (named Angela who I estimate to be in her very early twenties) did my pedi first. Not only did she unskillfully manage to file my toes nails into jagged, rough edges, but she was also completely indifferent to the level of service and attention she provided. At one point she nipped one of my cuticles so badly that it made me shout and flinch in pain and surprise. She barely even apologized. If that had happened at the salon I used to go to out of state, the tech would've expressed remorse and acknowledged that she hurt me. Ah, but not at Phinne's place! She haphazardly put on my polish (which bubbled over and had to be done a second time... btw, it still came out looking like crap), and then told me to walk across the room for my mani. I brought my own flip-flops, but she never suggested that I put them on before she finished polishing me and seemed pissed off that I even wanted them on. While she was polishing me, I figured she would use those paper/disposable post pedi sandals a lot of places use. Nope, not at Phinne Nails. So when I expressed that I did not feel like walking across the salon in bare feet, she made it pretty obvious that I was somehow messing up her entire afternoon. Is it so bad that a customer doesn't feel like walking in bare feet across a public place of business? Um... no. I'd prefer to keep my feet clean, thank you very much. After basically giving me the stink eye, she shouted something in Vietnamese to her coworkers (really they're her parents, this is truly a family business) and darted out the door. Her father, the kind man I made reference to at the beginning of this review, took over for my mani. He's a lovely man, but he is no manicurist. My nails, which are natural and generally very well taken care of, were basically ruined. Each nail is a different length from the others. All were filed and left with rough, gnarly edges (which catch on freaking everything now) and the polish was all over the place. Polish was applied too thick, so it never dried smooth. I always use a really neutral color on my hands, so painting my fingers is pretty easy to do, unlike darker colors that reveal any mistakes. But alas, even a color as meek as Essie's Ballet Slippers was too much of a challenge for this man to apply even remotely professionally. Meanwhile, don't even get my started on my cuticles... that's just a lost cause. So what was the length of my precious time wasted on this joke of a service? An hour and a half. That's right folks, I sat there for a good chunk of the afternoon listening to the daughter's philosophical perspectives of K-Pop (which she played loudly from her iPhone while telling the room all about the genre) and watching infomercials being blared from the salon's TV. I'm 40 years old. If I'm going to get a mani/pedi, I don't feel like listening to rap in a foreign language - I would actually prefer to enjoy some peace and quiet. Moreover, I'm not interested to learning about Larry King's Omega-3 pills he's peddling on an infomercial styled to look like a news program that's playing loudly over my head on a flatscreen TV. But at Phinne's place, you get to hear all that and so much more... I'm kicking myself that I was stupid enough to not only go back, but pay for this insanely poor mani/pedi. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. IT IS A MASSIVE RIP OFF AND IS STAFFED BY SOME REALLY RUDE INDIVIDUALS. Not to mention, I do a better polishing my own freaking nails, thank you very much. read more

I have been coming to Phinne Nail Salon for over 5 years. Every 3 weeks, I have gone in and received the best, most intricate manicure. I purposely come back to Vermont when I leave to get my nails done by her. We have received nothing but the utmost care when it comes to pedicures for men and women. The prices are steep, it was $65, but they included a light massage and exfoliated my feet, which in other places, they charge separately. Horrible!!!! Wow!!!! First off was scheduled with Zac since I was told he gave a stellar foot massage!! I arrive at the salon with a picture of nail art I would like done- I was with Angela who personally was nice but said "no nail art, no one but my mom can do it!!" The mom was there but had no time to do it! The actual pedicure was just ok, to top it off the actual foot massage was 10 seconds per foot!!! Very happy! Unless you head off to Burlington, there aren't many options for nail salons in the area, unless you're headed off to the spa, but really... who regularly manicures their nails at a spa?! Dont get me wrong, that's a nice treat, but when you're going for a monthly mani/pedi... what do you look for? Clean shop, good service, and quality service! Phinne Nail Salon has all of that. They all do a great job, Saphe is my "go to girl", perfection every time, but I've never had any bad service from anyone. The shop is clean, that's really important, and they're entertaining. Once you're a 'regular', you feel like family... they know whats going on with you and you keep up with them, it's like visiting with friends when you go, entertaining to say the least! I would recommend making an appointment! They're generally very busy and unfortunately that takes away from the 'walk in' business, but come on... generally it's a good sign when a business is constantly busy, that means... GOOD PRODUCT! I have been to a lot of nail salons and Phinne is the best by far. I have had my gel nails for 2 years and never had any problems. She does such a great job I only go for a fill every 3 weeks. I also have had pedicures and her husband gives the most complete massage of the legs and feet. One of the reviews said their pedicure was terrible from Phinne's husband and they are so way off on that. By the way the going rate for pedicures is $35. I highly recommend Phinne. I love it here. The prices are a little on the high end, but if you get a pedicure, it comes with a great massage chair and a long foot and leg massage. I went for a pedicure today. Have been there before, so she knows me. I always tip 20% and so on. Called today for a gel pedicure.....just gel polish on natural toe nails......$65.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I questioned her she said, oh yeah, shellac is $65.00. Then I checked her website and it said pedicure $35.00. I can't attest to the skills of the female owner, but the guy she had working when I went did a terrible job all around. Not only were my nails cut brutally short and uneven, but the paint job was all smeared, there was no top coat (or even a second coat of polish) put on, and the leg "massaging" was one of the most nightmarishly rough experiences I've ever had... at a salon. Worst of all, they charged 35$ for a pedicure, which is more expensive than what they list on their website, making them either dishonest or lazy. And now I'm going to need to spend at least another 35$ on drinks to get over the unprofessional manhandling that happens at this place. read more

Agree that it's the worst manicure I ever had. Plus, they overcharged me by $10 and "forgot" to give me a massage. My nails were uneven, jaggedy and smeary. We've been here a few times and will NEVER go back. I called to make an appointment for this morning at 8 AM. Three people in my house heard me make the apt. for four on Wed. morning at 8AM and so we woke up early to go get our nails done. After waiting outside in the cold for 45 minutes, the owner and his wife showed up and didn't even apologize, telling me that I didn't have an apt. He then proceeded to tell me that I made an apt for the next day, and that I was wrong, yelling that he wouldn't do our nails. He was incredibly rude and lost our business for good. The young lady that did my mani/pedi did an excellent job and was lovely. The other woman working was loudly FaceTiming with someone or singing to herself with earphones in the whole time; it was incredibly annoying (while with a customer. Unbelievable). That could have been tolerable to return (as long as I didn't get that woman) but the price for a regular mani/pedi is $53. I would need the whole experience to be exceptional for that price so I won't return. read more

I've never had a worse experience at a nail salon. We had appointments for gel manicures. There were two people working. One woman was FaceTiming the ENTIRE time (very loudly), completely ignoring her surroundings to talk to someone on the phone while servicing a client. The other woman did my nails, three coats of polish and two of top coat? Can't wait for that to fall off in a day or two! Got nail polish on my skin, which wasn't noticed or corrected. When she told me to wash my hands, I kid you not, she left the building. Left. I watched out the window as she legit drove away. My friend and I were baffled. I usually go to a nail salon located in a nearby town, but thought I should try Phinne since I live in Waterbury and it is local. I went in this morning as a walk-in. When I walked through the door and said I would like a pedicure, I was rudely told, "We don't have time." The woman appeared incredulous that I would even venture to try to walk in. And that was it. I understand I should have made an appointment in advance--that is not the issue. It's the way they handled it. You never say, "We don't have time for you" to a customer. You see if you can find a solution, like "Would you like to make an appointment? We can fit you in at such-and-such time." Apparently they don't need new business, judging by how eager they were to get rid of me. I will gladly be returning to the other nail salon and will never try Phinne again. read more

Awful, awful service. Useless, incompetent, and unfriendly staff. My niece and I tried to go here this summer to get a pedicure. We were walk-ins, and understood that we might need to make an appointment, but we decided to see if they could fit us in somewhere during the day anyway. We came in at about 1:30pm and stood at the door for about 8 minutes before someone bothered to acknowledge us (one person who worked there was sitting right next to the door and saw us come in). I asked if we could get pedicures, and they rudely told me that we couldn't because someone was coming in at 3pm. Makes total sense right?! So then I asked why we couldn't if the appointment was an hour and half away while there was only one other customer getting their nails done at the time and four staff working. They said they needed the entire space for the appointment, and didn't even offer to find an opening for us the next day or the day after, so we left and will never try to go there again. Never again! The first problem was that they got our reservation wrong and only had us reserved for two and not three so they had to scramble to set up for the three of us. I had never had my nails done there before but my mom had. No one welcomed us or told us where to go. We each sat in a chair and was never once instructed what to do with our feet. My feet were just pushed into the bath like I was supposed to know when my feet were supposed to be soaking. I had the guy and he kept his head down and had a scowl on his face the whole time like he was being forced to be caring for me. Then, they guy started cutting my nails and cuticles and cut my toe! I had blood running down my toe and what does he do? He puts my foot back in the bath! The toe finally stopped bleeding and he proceeded to file my nails which hurt like crazy! He then proceeded to file my cuticles with the same file that was used for my mother and sister!!! After which, he proceeded to clean the file in my foot bath with my feet still in the tub! Seriously??? To top it all off, while my mother and I were having our toes dried under the lights, their lunch arrived from one of the local oriental places. Their "food area" which consists of a few drawers and a small fridge and microwave is less than three feet from where we were sitting. Six people were all gathered at our backs putting food in dishes (food that smelled disgusting) and then they proceeded to eat their food at the very same tables that customers sit at to have their manicures. I had an excellent experience at Phinne Nail Salon! I am from NJ but was in VT for my wedding in September. My husband and I walked in without appointments and they were able to get us both done (he got a manicure!) I never ever get my nails done, so this was my first experience in a salon in over 5 years. Needless to say, I was not really looking forward to it and viewed it as a pre-wedding chore. I ended up having a genuinely enjoyable time! Phinne and her family and employees are all as skilled in their fields as they are fun to be around. We had great conversations and lots of laughs and the time passed quickly. My husband loved it too and even said we should go back just for fun when we are in Vermont again! The attention to detail in my manicure was impeccable. Angela (I hope I remember her name correctly!) is awesome with colors and was able to achieve exactly the look I was going for just on my description and her expertise. This review is based solely on customer service as I ended up not having my pedicure. When I called to make the appt, I found the gentleman who answered to be very "gruff", but I decided o overlook that. My appt. was for 10 a.m. when the shop opens. Another lady (who also had an appt at 10) and I were there at 10, but the door was locked. At about 10:10 the owner showed up as did another woman who also had an appt. So, 3 of us, one provider. when asked, she said that her husband and daughter were "on their way". I waited about another 5 minutes and decided that the whole thing was making me too grumpy too enjoy the pedicure at that point anyway. As a customer I feel an obligation to be there on time. I also consider my time to be valuable. Apparently they don't. I won't ever go there again. It really is a shame that it is the only place in Waterbury that provides such a service. read more
