Pho Cong in Covington was absolutely delicious. The food was incredibly flavorful, and the broth was hands-down amazing--rich, comforting, and clearly made with care. I ordered the combination plate, and it was worth every penny with generous portions and great variety. The building itself is small and tucked away in a shopping center, but it was packed to the brim when we visited, I can absolutely see why it's such a popular spot. Our waitress was very helpful and kind; although she seemed quite busy and a bit less attentive at times, she came by as much as she could. Pho Cong had been in my bookmarks for awhile, so while on a recent trip to NOLA, I took a detour to see what the most hyped business on the north shore was all about. Their success in the form of local accolades are never-ending, along with countless high ratings across several platforms. My first impression was slightly underwhelming but I have no regrets and I certainly appreciate the effort. The place is family run and located in a strip mall with a handful of tables with a busy crowd of folks at any point of the week. There are a handful of group-friendly tables inside, along with a couple of tables outside. I came during their lunch rush, which resulted in a bit of a wait. When finally seated, I admired the hordes of staff going in and out of the kitchen, along with the waitresses handling groups of all sizes with ease. I ordered a good variety of food to make sure I didn't miss much. In addition to a combination pho dac biet ($17), bo vien ($14) and pho ga with banh mi combo ($18), I also ordered their coconut butterfly shrimp ($7), off menu crispy noodle bird's nest ($16.50), and a plate of fries ($5) for good measure. I noticed a lot of the food skewed on the sweeter side. The pho broth was good overall, but was still a tinge sweet. I was hoping for heartier cuts of the tendon and brisket, but it was a modest portion at best. The sweetness also applied to the sauce in the crispy bird's nest noodle, which reminded me of something I'd find in an American Chinese spot with the stir fry and overall presentation. While I was happy with the bread of the banh mi, the spicy mayo spread (?) threw me off a bit. I was hoping for pate and butter, but that may have to be a request-onyl thing. I started to realize that from the majority of the patrons, the semi-high prices, and the description-first format of the menu (#1), that it's likely that the place was really molding to the westernized palate. It makes sense in a place like Covington, which is not the same Vietnamese scene as say Houston. It also makes sense to have some non- Viet staff to make the place as approachable as possible. And regarding the staff, they were the best part of the experience. Everyone was incredibly friendly and did a good job of keeping the place clean and orderly (#2), while making sure everyone left with a smile on their face. They've clearly done an outstanding job since their start a handful of years ago. I think for folks who are clearly more adept in Vietnamese cuisine, should ensure they know what they're getting into prior to taking the leap. I would never rule out of a future return, but I think I'd have to already be in Covington and to make sure to taper my expectations. __________ (#1) "Vietnamese po-boy" for banh mi, "chunky beef" for bo luc lac, etc (#2) Especially the bathrooms. This is a wonderful little place. It's kind of hidden in the corner of the Rouse's shopping center. Plenty of parking as a result. It gets a little busy at lunchtime but I haven't had trouble getting a table. It's a small space but it doesn't feel crowded even when it's busy. The servers are friendly and willing to answer my rookie questions. The pricing is reasonable for what you get. The pho is excellent. I am not a connoisseur so I can't speak to its' authenticity but it fresh and hot. The meats are nice. The sprouts, jalapenos, basil, etc. on the side are always crunchy and fresh. I always tell myself I am going to try something different but I wind up getting the pho. Highly recommended. I go every chance I get. read more

Avoid Disappointing Food and Misleading Practices. Pho Cong Noodle and Grill in Covington delivers bland, forgettable food that isn't worth the price, but the bigger issue is their misleading handling of king cakes. They claim a strict two-cake limit per customer, yet clearly stockpile large quantities while telling others they're unavailable -- as shown in the photos. To be absolutely clear, this has nothing to do with Dong Phuong Bakery and everything to do with Pho Cong's own choices. If you're going to set limits, enforce them honestly. Between the subpar food and the shady, frustrating experience, this place isn't worth your time or money. read more

I was incredibly impressed with this place. The place was busy (which makes sense because the food is so good) and yet the service was great. I had the spicy beef soup and it was just outstanding. The flavors, the portion size, the tenderness of the beef were all fantastic. My wife and I are New Yorkers who live in Mandeville and we feel this place would do well anywhere in the US, and stand up against any of the top noodle houses we've frequented in NYC. I used to travel to New Orleans to get pho but after having a bad experience at the restaurant I liked I was in search of a new place. One day my sister and mom took me here. The dinning area is a bit small but the staff is consistently friendly and professional. I later found out the chef from my old spot moved to this location. Which made sense because the food wasn't the same at the old spot. I'm home now at Pho Cong. It tastes just as i remembered it when I lived in New Orleans. I order the same thing every time and it's perfect every time. Seafood Pho and Vietnamese egg rolls. The main difference i find about their pho compared to other places I've had is their broth. It's light, delicious flavor that makes you want to drink the left over juices after you finish eating lol. I can also appreciate the fresh veggies which are delectable. Wow usually I'm not very impressed about food but today I was overly impressed by photo Kong noodle in Grill in The Rouses shopping center in Covington.Usually I'm not a fan of all places they all seem to be alike but this one is definitely different. Here's another Vietnamese restaurant on the Northshore and they are doing it right. I ordered the combination pho today and it was delicious! I asked for extra tendon and they did not disappoint; I can feel my bones knitting already! Just kidding, but there was a lot of tendon and it was cooked perfectly. In fact, the bowl was as good as I have had, maybe with the exception of Christian's broth...but he cheats and makes it amazing. The fresh basket included cilantro and basil, along with the bean sprouts and lime, and the jalapeños were fresh and crunchy. This place is out of the way for sure! Traffic and more traffic. Did i mention this place has an unusual way of entering? It's in the large shopping center, tucked in the back. I think I almost got in a car accident. Was it worth it? Totally!!! I really think I found my pho place. The broth was on point. Flavorful and Hearty. Its similar to how my mom makes it at home! I was sooo hungry, I forgot to take pictures of my small pho bowl. My friend and I both got the Pho and Sandwich combo! Amazing deal for $11. The grilled pork banh mi was heavenly! The "butter" they used is definitely homemade. The grilled pork itself was flavorful! The pho can hold its own without any "bejazzed" added to it (siracha and hoisin). I do exactly the same in all my pho...two concentric circles, size of large half-dollars, of siracha and a dime sized dollop of hoisin sauce. Basil, cilantro, bean sprout and slices of jalepenos. Don't forget the squeeze of lemon or lime to add another level of flavor to your dish. I definitely want to try their Vietnamese crepe next time to see how it compares to my mom. I miss my mom's cooking as she is in Dallas and I'm down yonder. read more

Based on the servers recommendation I ordered the house spicy beef pho, it was not spicy at all but very flavorful. It easily could be shared between two people with a shared appetizer. We also ordered the pork bahn mi which did not lack in flavor or meat, we also ordered the lemongrass beef on the side and that was phenomenal! They're banana boba was also very good.
