Humans are not necessarily selfish by nature, but environmental adaptation often influences many to lean towards self-focused, self-preservationists behaviors. I had very humble beginnings, had to make do with very little. Spam was a frequent protein for our meals, and I ate everything on my plate, because it wasn't much and we couldn't afford to waste. My young childhood growing up in a one parent household in Tallahassee, FL is probably at the root of me not wanting to share this, because I don't want to share long waits and a packed restaurant with everyone, I want to keep it all to myself. But, I am taking a leap of faith that my group centered behavior will reward my brains pleasure centers and fill me with self rewarding feelings as a result of sharing my thoughts about this gem in THE Dell. Koi's simply has the best sushi my son and I have ever had. We love our sushi, and we've eaten it everywhere within 50 miles of Slidell, and obviously all over the country, FL,WA,NC, SC, CA, etc.... The specialty rolls at Koi's are simply a work of art, and in a class all to their own. Nowhere comes close in my opinion. The flavor profiles can be so diverse and deliciously contrasting, every bite we take, we look at each other and simply cannot resist saying "O.M.G, so freaking good"! Our go to favorites are the Assassin, Independence, and the Rip Curl. My son swears that Nobu downtown New Orleans has the best quality ingredients for nigiri or sashimi lovers, but if you like great quality ingredients with a flavor adventure in every bite with your specialty roll selections, Koi's for the win. Do not sleep on this place, Slidell. Service is consistently great here as well. Friendly, timely, efficient, and we've seen similar faces for years now, which only helps validate this place is truly special. My perspective, they all feel invested in the guest experience, and I'm just grateful we have the opportunity to enjoy their service and food creations. Oh, did I mention EXCELLENT VALUE as well? What a great find! I love sushi but my husband doesn't. Koi's serves Chinese food as well as Sushi. Great drinks, great service and great food. I had a roll and a spicy tuna hand roll that was stuffed with yummy tuna. Husband had some kind of Chinese dish that was full of meat and shrimp. It was a huge portion and enough to take home for tomorrow. I can't wait to go back. My new favorite sushi spot in Slidell. read more

Stopped here for a quick dinner while passing through Slidell. The reviews were mixed and I may know why. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was busy, but there were more open than filled tables. Still, it took awhile for our waitress to take our drink order. Right after, she took our food order. I estimate that we waited a good 30 minutes for our food to arrive. So long that she gave us another drink on the house. We were first told that they were making a fresh batch of fried rice for us, then it was fresh egg rolls. Well, obviously we want freshly cooked food! But, it should not have taken that long. The shrimp Kung Pao had a good flavor and so did the egg rolls (very crispy, fresh and tasty). The General Tso's chicken sauce had a different twang to it, hard to describe. And I have never been asked if I wanted dark or white meat and if I wanted it sauced or sauce on the side. I was thrown by that and ordered white with sauce on the side. The chicken tasted dry that way. Maybe it would have been better with dark meat and sauced?! Also, the fried rice that accompanied both dishes had a good flavor, but the consistency of stuffing. The restaurant itself had a locals kind of vibe. It did look a bit dingy and had a grease smell. I would say that it could benefit from a deep cleaning. read more

1st time at Koi's! Friday night date night. We were greeted and welcomed immediately and we chose to sit at the bar. I had the Mongolian Beef and my husband had the duck. Everything was incredible! The service was extremely slow, and unfortunately, the food didn't meet expectations either.

I will have to remove the best sushi in Slidell crown from the other restaurant and give it to Koi's. Their sushi is fresh and delicious, but also reasonably priced. There is a variety of rolls to choose from and they are generous with their portions. My favorite roll is the Angel Roll: tuna, snow crab, avocado, with eel sauce on top, known as a Metairie Roll at most spots in New Orleans. I also enjoy the Supa Dupa Roll when I am visiting with my mother, she only eats non raw rolls. The name should let you know it is a huge roll, boy is it ever, I would suggest getting it made into a small roll. Finally we truly enjoy their egg rolls, a must try with their homemade duck sauce. This is a great restaurant off of Airport Rd. in Slidell. The restaurant is always clean and the staff friendly. Note: They are closed on Mondays. Definitely my new sushi spot in Slidell. I am writing this review wishing I was back in Slidell so that I could order the shrimp and lobster sauce plate with fried rice and wonton, plus egg drop soup. I have been a fan of this place since it open. Actually, I am not sure, but it seems like a new extension of the former South Seas Chinese that used to be on hwy 190 w (disclaimer: this could be untrue but the food tastes the same). The to-go situation is like a well-oiled machine over there. Just know they are always busy for a reason. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the indoor dining isn't a 5-star experience, considering decor and furniture, however know that my standards are pretty high since I've dined at some fine dining establishments so it's hard to see past shabby stuff. Went here for the first time last night to get take out, ordered ahead wanted good sushi and better Chinese as most places in slidell aren't that great! Was tempted to drive to NoLA to Sake! So glad I didn't make the trek. Koi's was wonderful!!! We ordered 4 sushi specialty rolls and 3 entries off the Chinese menu side! Was so good and portions very nice on Sushi and huge on the Chinese! Wonderful will be my go-to in the future! Well worth the drive from Oak Harbor! Had a lemon zest salmon roll - outstanding! And the Mr. TSO's chicken and the Walnut Shrimp the best I have had anywhere! And that includes China town in NYC! And LA, CA! So glad we have left overs from ordering too much! read more

Koi's Asian Cuisine was that of a fish, very wet with an odd flavor. We initially got the so called "Boo Boo Delights" which mind you, were very delightful, but not something I'd call my boo boo. We also got a California roll, which stood for what it was, a typical California roll. For entrees we got both the sweet and sour chicken and the sesame chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was more so a gallon of sweet and sour sauce to go with your chicken, which typically wouldn't have been a problem were the tang of the sauce not equivalent to that of a sock soaked with gym sweat. For this particular sauce, there should have been about 1/4th of the amount. The sesame chicken had a good flavor, but the same problem with the amount of sauce. Both entrees came with fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was not tried, but the fried rice was very decent. Our server was delightful though she had only been there for 2 or so weeks, but the restaurant was a tad bit dirty and left something to be desired. Overall, Bruce's Chinese Kitchen or Imperial Chopsticks are much better options for the price point as well as the same amount of food. read more

We try to make it here at least once a week. The food is fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem here in Slidell. We have eaten sushi from Alaska to Texas and this place is impressive. So fresh and tasty. They are very creative with their sushi rolls. Generous servings and the flavors are off the chain. The service will not disappoint. We absolutely love this place. Try the orange beef and ask for it lightly fried. Ate at Koi's for the first time. This place offers happy hour from 3-6 on beer and certain rolls. Our waitress told us about it but didn't say what time it ended. When we went to order which took awhile for her to come back we were told happy hour had ended. We all Enjoyed the crab salad (beautiful presentation) and the shrimp toast. Everyone at the table also gave thumbs up to the crunchy rolls, each person at the table ordered a speciality roll. Each roll had a beautiful presentation along with large portion. When one persons' roll was brought to the table the waitress said,oh I put 2 on the tray would you like them. My mother in law said sure and of course the waitress knew she would not eat it or would anyone at our table since we obviously over ordered. When I bill came the waitress charged us for her error and charged us the full $15.00 for it. I know we accepted it but she should have informed us we would be charged especially almost the most expensive roll on the menu. Just not a fan how that was presented to us. I really wish I was able to do half stars. I would fully give 3.5 but the price of food is what pushed me to 4 star over a 3. I also appreciate a place that gives you all the options. This place stays true to the Asian fusion with some Chinese and Japanese menu items. To be clear, I've been to this location numerous times but never reviewed. The selection wowed me but never hooked me. It's a great "cheap eat" but not a regular hang. After not wanting to drive for 30-45 minutes one way for my preferred sushi haunts and getting let down by the new kid on the block a few weeks ago, I thought it was time to try a old spot with a redesigned menu. First thing, the location is easy to get to. The place is clean and the staff are nice and offer prompt service. When we sat down I ordered a small wonton soup ($2.50) and a salmon zest sushi roll ($10). The soup came out instantly. VERY porky but good flavored broth. It was a fine dinner. The meal didn't wow me but also didn't disappoint. It cure the craving? Ehh not for long but it was sushi. My biggest problem with this place is the soy sauce. It's NOT Kikkoman. There's no way. It tastes different then every other low sodium Kikkoman at every other sushi restaurant ever. I forgot that I had beef with the soy sauce until I dipped my first piece in the substance. It tasted more like the spicy ponzu sauce with the roll than soy. So if you like Kikkoman, bring some with you. Another thing, though the value of this restaurant is completely untouched by competition, I really wonder if they look for sustainable fish sources. I happily pay more for meat that's been sourced responsibly. read more

I used my yelp to find this place after some shopping with my sister and her kids. The review sounds pretty good so we heading there for a late lunch. We were told we were on time for happy hours which starts from 4pm to 6pm by how hostess/waitress. My sister doesn't like raw fish so the Becky I think that's her name recommend that we can order anything and the chef can fried it. That's a first for me since most sushi place has a menu that only offers certain sushi specials that are fried and we can't just order anything else in the menu to be fried. "Becky" recommend the crawfish rolls to be fried so that's what we ordered for my sister. Koi's also has a Chinese menu for lunch special that we also order. We ordered the Imperial lunch special. It was so delish! The veggies taste fresh and the shrimp and beef with the amazing brown sauce was on point. Definitely I will come back for that. We also order the Sweet and Sour soup It was the worse soup I had. The soup was way too think and all you can taste is the sourness and the pork. I should have stay with the egg drop soup. I think because I am so used to Kyoto 2 in Elmwood that we go fairly regular that I'm being bias. Don't get me wrong, our sushi was good but really nothing to brag about with all the reviews on yelp people were posting. We ordered from the happy hours, crunchy rolls, snow crab rolls, spicy crawfish rolls and bbq eels rolls. This place was not the cleanest. They insisted they have gluten free food. They used regular soy sauce and claimed it was gluten free. I was very specific about cooking my food in separate pans, and re-confirmed with them and I told them I would get very sick. They insisted their soy sauce was gluten free and it was cooked separate. Even so, I ordered their curry since lait Chinese restaurants don't use soy sauce in curry. My food came, and it was vey bland as if no curry powder was put in it and it was brown brown. I asked again if there is soy sauce and was told it's gluten free soy sauce. I relaxed and stared eating. Within 1 minutes, I got bloated and sick and asked to see which soy sauce they used. The soy sauce didn't say gluten free on it. And my body doesn't lie. My systems are still going on as it has only been an hour. I will be sick for three days or so. I will get fever, joint pain, stomach issues and pain. I asked to owner why he thought the soy sauce was gluten free--he said a customer told him. I asked the owner if he used a clean pan. He sows every discharge is made in a clean washed pan. Seriously! Since when do Chinese restaurants wash each pan after every stir fry dish??? They may wipe them. That's it. But these owners didn't care about being honest or for listening to me. My waitress was great and I sent her back multiple times to ask questions as I didn't want to be sick! And the result is I will be sick for days. Then the owner comes and says how can I make you happy? I told him it's not my happiness, but my health that is affected and he cannot reverse it. If you are on the food business, you should know how to handle food allergies and not be so careless with peoples lives and Heath!! They insisted they had gluten free when I asked multiple times and I told them I am a Celiac! All to sell one more entre? We paid the whole bill except my entre even though my husband and only ate a little bit of his. Eat here if you want. But I cannot recommend this place to anyone when the owners show this type lack of care. I wonder what their kitchen looks like....?? The one start is for the waitress.
