I was feening for some really good Pho and decided to stop by here. I ordered Bún bò Huế and Crispy Spring Rolls. The first dish that came out was a FAIL, but not for the reason you may expect. There was a big FLY on the dish. This grossed me out and we had to tell the waitress immediately. I know accidents do happen, but how does the cook and waitress miss a big fly before bringing it to our table. The waitress was apologetic and brought the dish back to the kitchen (they probably just refried it and remove the fly). The spring rolls came back out for take 2. I wasn't really a fan. It was crispy, which was good, but tasted like ham...and there wasn't any ham in there to my knowledge. My main course was the Bún bò Huế. The broth was tasty. It was bold and flavorful. The meat was unfortunately not tender and a bit chewy. I absolutely love Vietnamese food and eat it regularly, but unfortunately this spot did NOT HIT THE SPOT. I grew up with this place and have fond memories of all the Vietnamese foods and desserts. Coming back as an adult, the food quality has really come down and the prices are insanely high. I live in Boston and the Vietnamese there is much cheaper and better than here. Worcester isn't an expensive place. Bahn Hoi here costs $25! In Boston it's usually $15! We ordered delivery from here recently. Our order was lighter than our usual orders but I would say still gave us an adequate impression of this place. To start, we ordered the veggie spring rolls. Our order had been sitting in our fridge until we were able to dig in which caused the rolls to be soggy and obviously detracted from the experience. They provided three with an order which is ideal if your party has three or six people but less than ideal if you are with somebody else. Yes, I can share a spring roll, but I would rather have a WHOLE spring roll, you know? If you're vegan or don't eat seafood, beware that the dipping sauce with which it comes has a strong representation of fish sauce and is extremely fishy. We also ordered pho which was really delicious. There was more than enough for both of us and came packing with tons of veggies and mix ins. I would definitely order pho from here again. We ordered chinese broccoli and tofu which was also good. I liked that it didn't come with a syrupy, goopy sauce that chinese dishes entail. It was flavored by a light sauce and was very enjoyable. Very nice restaurant. We've been meaning to check this out for a while now and so we were happy to swing by. There is a small-ish parking lot in front of restaurant that is shared with a few other store fronts so beware around busy times. Other than that we were able to sit immediately which was nice. The food came out quickly and was nice prepared / plated. I got the spicy beef pho which I wished was more spicy and flavorful. My friend got the sizzling beef which was SO good. I was eating off his plate! The restaurant wasn't too busy and it took a while for our waitress to come say hi, this caused some more delayed because we didn't have a drink menu so she had to go look for a few. The drinks weren't too strong and they were just ok, you could probably pass on these. I'm excited to go Back and try more entrees. The price point for the Pho was about 15, but the entrees were about 20-25 which is a little pricey for the area and broccoli and beef for one. And the team provided a great recommendation for a new dessert bar that opened down town. We did a spontaneous day trip to Worcester and the area, and looked up restaurants in the area and found Pho Dakao, and we're happy we did. The summer rolls were lovely; the Sizzling (Mongolian) Beef prepared to perfection-- the beef was beautifully seasoned and very nice flavorful cuts (we ordered a side of steamed vegetables as well); and the Chicken Curry was delicious as well. The ambiance is a little eclectic, but it gave off a relaxed vibe. The food came super fast, so perhaps not the best date restaurant for a slow, lingering meal; but we'll definitely come back next time we're in Worcester. read more

I grew up with Pho Dakao, it was the spot for Vietnamese long ago when there weren't that many options in this part of town. I've been around since when they were a small and plain restaurant and now they've grown and extended and renovated and was there even when they opened a second restaurant in Framingham. However, nowadays there are many options in Worcester for very true & authentic Vietnamese flavors that don't water down their broths or seasonings and this time around, I still find the food here pretty decent. One thing I don't come here for is the Pho, because I know I could get it better elsewhere but for other dishes like Bun Vermicelli Bowl, or Sizzling Beef, Grilled Pork Chops with Broken Rice, etc. those are the dishes that I go for here. Tonight, I had a bad experience with the water, as it was tasting very plastic-y or chemical-y but our server, Hue, who was very nice and quick on her feet, gave us complimentary water bottles instead. The food isn't to-die-for-spectacular, but that's coming from somebody who has been spoiled by Californian Vietnamese food, but it's still good and they still manage to bring me back once in a blue moon or so. I highly recommend Pho Dakao for those who are pretty new to Vietnamese cuisine as they have the perfect atmosphere to do so with a full bar, booths, plenty of nice & clean space, full team of staff, modernized decor, however, tonight they didn't have any music playing which can be awkward when you are seated near other tables who are eating silently. I'm not the type to even write reviews but the service I received that day was terrible. This weekend I stopped by here to get some pho. From the beginning they were very dismissive but I didn't really care because I just wanted to eat and leave. I'm eating the pho and I find a fly in my noodles. I walk up to one of the guys cleaning up the tables to let him know and he tells one of the waitresses to come to me. She comes and I show her the fly in pho. Proceeds to ask me if I want another one, I decline, she gives me a dirty look and walks away without saying anything else. She walks into the kitchen and I hear her mocking me. So I'm debating whether I should catch an attitude because I think I was pretty chill in the first place about finding a fly in my pho. So as I'm waiting at my table she comes back doesn't even acknowledge me and tells me friend that we're all set and we can just go and she makes a shooing gesture. No apology or anything. I don't think this place is anything to write home about. I could be wrong; I came in for some pho and sat at the bar, the people around me seemed to be regulars who knew the bartender well. I ordered the seafood noodle soup. The soup was not as good as expected. I'm actually not sure if it was pho as the menu is a little tricky about what is pho and what isn't which irks me. It didn't taste authentic to me. It had very limited seafood and a lot of imitation crab. Not too fond of a facility putting imitation crab in front of their 'seafood' dish. The bartender was nice but paid very little attention to me, and had me wait for a good 10 minutes with my hands crossed to ask me if I was done and another 10 minutes to give me my receipt. I'm guessing it was the chef that let us down though. I've never paid so much for such tasteless food. A decent choice for some authentic Vietnamese food here in Worcester. Since we were just passing by its hard to compare the food to other local restaurants, but based on the other Vietnamese food I've had in other cities Pho Dakao leaves quite a bit to be desired. The best part is definitely the flagship bowl of pho, the portion of meat and noodles are quite generous and they served it quite hot. If that's all you're intending to get its a pretty good choice. However, both the Soft Shell Crabs and Grill Chicken Plate were a bit underwhelming. The crabs were about 4-5 pieces in total which is bit more premium considering the $13-14 price tag. However they were deep fried quite nicely but I thought they had way too much pepper and onions. The chicken plate is drier than what we would have liked and the rice is a bit too much. The service could have been better as well. I remember it was a bit of wait for the server to get our checks but I mean given its a traditional Vietnamese restaurant usually service aren't on their list of higher priorities. Overall its a nice place in the area where there's a major Asian Supermarket but definitely nothing too memorable in this visit to Pho Dakao. read more

We ordered: - Chicken Papaya salad - Special Beef Pho - Bún Bò Hu (spicy beef noodle soup) - Salty Limeade - Vietnamese Ice Coffee The chicken papaya salad was delicious, however, they did over sauce it, so it was bit too salty and for the price we paid, thought it would be slightly bigger. The special beef pho was good - the broth was tasty. The Bún Bò Hu definitely had some kick to it. At first when you try it, it doesn't see too spicy but as you keep eating it, the heat definitely kicks in! Very flavourful and tasty! Seating and service here was very quick and attentive, they have attractive modern decor with a large neon sign and a drink menu. Due to it being late in the night and very close to closing I opted out of drinks. I ordered hot tea and pho tai, the staff was friendly and fast. My order came in short time and it was quite large. The broth was strong and flavorful, the meat not as rare as I hoped but it was still good texture. The noodles they used were thin ...I just wish there were more. I also regret not adding beef balls into my pho I think that would have tasted really good. The iced coffee was on the sweeter side so if you favor sweets you'll like it. This roll is dull and only consist of iceberg lettuce. When it was brought out, you can tell it just came out of the microwave. The peanut sauce doesn't even taste like real peanut sauce. Pho Special: It's pretty bland. There's not a lot of flavor to it. The meat was chewy, and the noodles were undercook. Nothing extraordinary about this bowl of pho. I couldn't finish the dish. Vietnamese ice coffee: this coffee is pretty good. I have no comments. Staff/Service: the staff here are friendly. They came by and ask how I was doing and if I need anything else. This kind of service are not usually offered at Vietnamese pho places. Price: the price was decent. Similar to other pho restaurants. Overall: got to remember that this restaurant is located in a predominantly white city; therefore, their dishes matched the community's pallet. I sit here eating the soft shell crab appetizer and it's better than I expected. Seasoned perfectly and fried to perfection. I got the Pho with chicken and vegetables and it was so good. Since it's down the street from my house, I've been coming here for many years. This place is a hit or miss when it comes down to food. There's days that it's absolutely tasty then days where it's not great. I would also recommend paying in cash here. I had a situation where the waitress wasn't a good server so I decided to give her 15% for tip. She didn't smile or ask if we needed anything else, also rushed us to leave.
