I just picked up some pho for me and my hubby and I've got to say that it definitely hit the spot. It is raining outside so it was perfect pho weather, although I can eat it anytime. It was still nice and hot when I got home. The reason for the 4 stars is because coming from Cali there are tons of pho restaurants. They give you a lot more meat and a lot more noodles. Don't get me wrong, it is generously portioned, but I wish all the soups came with beef meat balls. The broth is very good and flavorful. All in all, it is a great place to get some good pho. I like that this place has options other than Pho but the other options are hit or miss for sure. The Pho has good flavor and safe bet. Their summer rolls are very slim and not as well stuffed as some others I've had in the area. Their Beef Chowfoon W/basil (I asked for it spicy since it's not labeled as such on the menu) was amazing! I loved it so much. The noodles were nice a soft and the spice had a right level of kick. I've also had the Ginger Chicken In Clay Pot (a lot of real ginger flavor) and Luc Lac Beef. Not a fan of their Thai Iced Tea, it takes like they made it out of instant tea. I've never been to a Vietnamese restaurant but the people I was with wanted to go. A lot of the dishes looked like a version of Chinese food but I went out of my comfort zone and got the H9 ... rice noodles with vegetables, fried tofu, and curry. I enjoyed it. And I certainly appreciated that it was temperature hot (my pet peeve is being served tepid food). The three other meals that were served were also hot, so kudos for that. I wouldn't go back on my own (I mean, I didn't like it THAT much) but it was quality food and hot so if you like Vietnamese food, it seems like this would be a good place. The one downside was that we were still at our table when the staff started to sweep the floors (in preparation for closing for the night) and they were sweeping in the direction of our table. Really? You're sweeping into us so that the floor dust flies into our face? Really? You couldn't think to yourself: hmmmmm, maybe I should sweep AWAY from the customer's table? Whatever. read more

I received my Pho Dac Biet menu item (D 1) although I had asked that the bean sprouts be steamed, I expected them to be steaming hot. Instead they were just like warm, tepid! When I asked my server to reheat the sprouts, he told me that that he thought they were hot enough!! But finally, he probably felt bad for me.. I don't know, but he brought another batch of steamed bean sprouts and these were piping hot as I hoped! The broth is very fresh and rich with the taste one expects to find from an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. What meat there was, was truly tender, a great cut; however as for quantity of meat, really I've had much more, elsewhere! It's as though it's a rare commodity, and I wonder if I should have haggled for more. I can't even say with any confidence that all the types of meat listed in the dish were actually there!!Hmm!! I used to come here all the time because it was around the corner from my house, nothing special just conveniet. When I moved I continued to come because it was a small operation and I wanted to support. I ordered using their online menu (which I normally do) to find that they raised all their prices to a ridiculous price. So what would be a $20 meal is now $40. Mind you they have tons of people coming In and out of their door. They aren't hurting for business like other businesses are for covid. Considering the amount of time that had passed since my last visit, I thought that maybe this establishment might have changed some of their flaws. I was absolutely incorrect in my assumptions. If anything, this place has become worse than before. It has become nothing more than another mcdonalds based pho restaurant that forget quality of food and charges the same as those who truly appreciate the real rich taste of pho. The noodles here are tasteless and the soup is absolutely horrid. I advise anyone that actually enjoys this place to check out Pho Pasteur by H-Mart off of route 40 or Pho Real off of Briggs Chaney, or Pho VN One, or even just making it at home since they all will taste better than this place. If you eat here for the garbage rice dishes or even their sorry attempt at other Asian dishes, you must obviously have terrible taste in Asian food. I'm one to try to find the good in people. I tried, for several visits to Pho Dat Thanh, to ignore the rude host that slammed down our menus when she sat us. I tried to ignore the hard to believe wait time that it took for me and my dad to simply get a waiter to take our order. I tried to look at the bright side of things when I had to go up to the cashier to practically beg to get our check. But, today was the last straw. I walk in today hopeful that a new manager was hired or that the employees finally extracted the stick out of their assholes. Sadly, that wasn't the case. I was sat down rudely once again. The familiar melody of the menus slapping the table serenaded my ears. I waited and waited. Still no waters, still no one to take our order. 7 minutes go by. Still no one. My father gets up and asks the front cashier if there is someone to take our order. "I'M COMING I'M COMING" Says a waitress that in fact, never came. Finally, a gentlemen takes our order. I notice a few tables get sat next to us. Low and behold they get their pho before us! Now I bet you are thinking maybe they had orders that were just done faster! Well, my friends. How could that be when I see that they have the exact same bowl of soup that I had just ordered? After seeing about 3 tables get their soup before us, me and my dad finally decided to leave. We told the front cashier what had happened as we were walking out and her look of disdain obviously told us that frankly, she did not give 1 shit. This review is not for the employees to read because obviously a manager who lets their employees acts this way towards customers for this long would not care. I am writing this review for the people who are on yelp looking for a good place to eat pho in Columbia. I encourage you to drive 2 minutes further and eat an An Loi, which is what me and my father did. We had a beyond pleasant experience and the staff actually acknowledged us! Who knew! My husband and I used to come here a lot without much of a problem. However, in the last couple of years, their service has pretty much sucked. Last time we went, we had such a long wait before a server came to get our order, while everyone else got their food before we did, although we were seated way before. And not only do they take forever to take your order, but they also never come back to your table to check up on you. We went again today, and were annoyed and disappointed with the service once again. It was around lunch time, and there were only about 3 or 4 other parties seated. It took about 10 minutes for us to get our water, and waited another 5 minutes before we decided to leave. We even made eye contact with the servers, but they never acknowledged us or told any other server to come help us. Thanks for the wait and crappy service. Pho Dat Thanh is a great restaurant. For the paltry sum of $7.5 you get authentic Pho. I always get D-1 large, basically "the works" that includes tendon, brisket, etc. The flavor is spot on with the broth being the clear standout. When mixed with cilantro, lime and some shiracha it is the stuff from heaven. Columbia has a lot of great ethic restaurants and this one is a great addition. My veggies were thrown in the bag like if they were garbage (half was out of the bag) and after that when i asked for an extra bag because i had to take soda cans, i was given a nasty look. I swear this place was probably bought over by a chinese owner who didn't know if they wanted to keep it as a pho restaurant and keep the loyal patrons or turn it into an asian cuisine restaurant. As for the broth, its decent, but totally not worth the lackluster performance of everything else. From the moment you walk in, they're slow. Traditional pho restaurants have their pho already done and ready, pipping hot in huge pots. So why does it take close to 20 mins for a bowl of pho to come out??? Additionally, if you're going to invest in a VIETNAMESE restaurant, it might be best to incorporate at least ONE Vietnamese server/waiter/waitress into your mix, so that actual Vietnamese people can order comfortably?!? Or at least train the workers to understand basic phrases so that the types of meat in pho dont have to be read off the menu to them!!! Go figure, a chinese who doesnt understand viet taking a Vietnamese's order in a Vietnamese restaurant!?! Great. Then when your pho FINALLY comes out, taste the broth, its fine, nothing special and the meats taste odd. Hmmmm, almost like frozen old meat!?! YUM! Just how I like it!!! Food was ok, not authentic, but ok. Service was AWFUL. Waitress came to our table with a serious attitude problem and rolling eyeballs. All we did was sit down and ask about the lunch specials they had (what was recommended, chef's special, etc....). Later, when we asked to have the tab split (there were 6 of us and unfortunately, a majority forgot to bring cash), we asked the bus girl to get our waitress and explained why. Her response was "why don't you just make one person pay?" We explained that we wanted separate checks. She too also gave us the rolling eyeballs and walked off with an attitude to get the waitress. Whenever I'm out with a group, the wait staff normally asks if we want the tabs split before they take the order. Sometimes, we ask for separate checks when we sit down. Unfortunately, for this occasion we forgot to ask when we came in, but I guess we were too busy being shocked by the waitress' nasty bedside manner. I waited tables for 5 and a half years. I didn't like it when people asked me to split checks, but only because I had to figure out who had what and then split them at the computer. Still, I smiled, split the check because I was asked to and it was my job. I NEVER rolled my eyeballs or gave a snooty/smartass remark. I always received a good tip when splitting checks because people were very appreciative for going through the hassle to make things more convenient for them. My co-workers and I did not leave a nice tip at Pho Dat Thanh. When we left, the waitress threw a serious hissy fit. From the judge of the hissy fit, she's received lots of bad tips in her time working there and I am not surprised at all. Food is ok. The Pho isn't really good, but it's hard to find good Pho unless you're willing to drive the distance. I don't recommend this place at all.... read more

Pho and the other food is good but my wife and I had a very awkward and confrontational experience here. after we finished our meal, we ordered two thai iced tea with bubbles to go. they came out and i'm certain that the condensed milk they used was rotten--the drinks had a nasty smell and taste to it. so we called the waitress over and said that these drinks are bad and if we could have them replaced. she said she would get the manager. so the manager comes and the first thing he says is that he's been making those drinks all day and not a single person has complained. we both stared at him and dared him to try the drinks! he stared at us for a good 10 seconds (pure awkwardness) and said that he won't refund us but he will make us another drink. a very awkward and uncomfortable experience... read more

Thought it was odd that the staff was speaking Chinese as we walked in, but it all became clear once the food came out. No nice way to put it: the pho was bland. The noodles and beef tasted fine, but the broth was missing all the requisite flavors of Vietnam's signature soup dish. I feel it would have been perfectly acceptable if they labeled it beef rice noodle soup instead of pho. On the other hand, the hu tieu was passable. I'm hoping the rice entrees and dry noodle dishes are more promising. The food is good, the service leaves A LOT to be desired. The wait can be long if you're there at prime lunch or dinner hour. And if you get seated, you may or may not get your server's attention. Once, my husband went to order take out for me on his way home from work. Why did it take 30 minutes for him to get his food? That being said, my husband and I have it in one of our top restaurants to go to. Why? We love the spring rolls there. Pho is pho like many of the other pho restaurants in this area... but they give you cilantro AND basil among other things in the condiment plate. The only restaurant that I know that does that. They have good lunch specials, decent amount of food and a good price. The vermicelli bowls are awesome. Crispy beef, veggie pan fried noodles, five flavored (not fried) tofu are some of our norms. So yes, we acknowledge the poor service but the food brings us back each time. 3 stars might be harsh, but we've been here so many times that I feel it justified.
