I need to update my review of this place. Every time I go home to Maryland, my niece and I eat here, and I love it. I even brought my best friend here, and now she eats here on a regular basis. The food is that good. There is plenty of seating, so we have never have had to wait for a table, even at lunch time. Service is always super quick. We usually start out with some type of roll, and the dipping sauce served with the rolls is excellent. Then I always get chicken pho. It is so good, with plenty of chicken and noodles, and it is a huge portion. I love that they provide plenty of accoutrements to go with the pho: Thai basil leaves, limes, jalapeños, and bean sprouts. My niece has become addicted to their pickled onions, and can't eat her rolls without them, but I'm passing on that trend for now. This is a great spot for Vietnamese food, and I'm sure I'll return my next visit to Maryland. read more

My boyfriend and I were considering Pho Dat Thanh to try a new Vietnamese restaurant because we loved a Vietnamese restaurant that is down the street called An Loi. An Loi serves edamame, so I called Pho Dat Thanh to ask if they served it as well because it's one of our favorite appetizers. The lady on the phone said to me "No we don't serve edamame." Which I would have accepted. But she then adds with a condescending tone "This is a Vietnamese restaurant honey..." like I was stupid for asking. She talked to me like I was dumb and now we definitely don't feel welcome there or will be coming in. There was no need for that statement I was just asking. And it's not crazy to ask when another Vietnamese restaurant exists down the street that serves edamame. read more

I was in the area and craving pho and did a search and came across this place. I've never been here before so I called in for a takeout order. They're very efficient there - I called and they said the pho would be ready in 10 minutes. It's a large dining area with a bar and cash register at the front. When I got home I was pleasantly surprised to see there was a lot of sprouts and limes (I love the accouterments of pho) and I did love the meatballs. It might be the best meatball pho I've had. I decided to write this review following my latest take away order experience today. For some reason the container with the chicken in claypot, (my usual order), had a huge crack in it, I discovered it when I got home, the sauce dripped everywhere, and the container left a puddle on my table. This left me frustrated because it could have been easily avoided, if the order was checked before packaging for pick up, I called up the place and was told to just bring it back, not only was I refunded, the manager made me a whole new order free of charge, that shows integrity and a high level of customer service, not to mention the excellent food, I can't recommend this place enough. I used to come here all the time for pho and decided to return and give it another try. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same experience. I'm not sure if there's been a change in management or the chef, but the broth tasted very different and lacked flavor. It was really bland compared to what we remember. There are so many new Pho places opening in Howard County and if they don't step up, not sure if they can attract customers. The service was great and that's what the two stars are for. read more

I saw the Yelp reviews and I was like I need to review myself. First Time here and was in the mood for Pho on a Sunday Evening... Arrived and was greeted and seated. Menu has a lot to offer and good value. The PHO Chicken was delicious. The broth was good, lots of chicken chunks...Nice!!! I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. I love my pho and I'd say I'm a connoisseur. With my credentials out of the way, I'd like to say that this place is one of the only Pho spots I've ever been that has more meat than noodles. Thats great and better than the alternative, but honestly I still want more noodles, haha. Solid broth, pleasant and balanced flavor. Not too bland or oily, but light yet rich. And piping hot when served, which is great. Thai tea was good as well. And their lunch menu items are a good value. Just don't expect more than a couple shrimps if you choose than protein. This is a painful one to write. I have been coming to this exact pho restaurant for over 20 years... We started with the summer rolls. Which are still amazing by themselves. The summer rolls come with a peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was so watered down it had no flavor. I joked about this saying maybe they are low on peanut sauce and are trying to get through the evening. Then the pho came... the broth was flavorless. I reached for the hoisin sauce. When I turned the bottle over the hoisin just leaked out of the bottle. Hoisin is a thick sauce and should never leak out of a bottle. Then I reached for the sriracha again it just leaked out the bottle. Everything was watered down. I went to another table to steal its hoisin sauce and it was just as watered down. If you dine here check the thickness of the sauces before you order. Absolutely terrible. read more

I am not a pho fan, so I never get pho at pho spots. I always get the bun, which is like a salad over vermicelli noodles + a protein. I've been to Pho Dat Thanh and have had their bun before, so the other day when I was hankering for some bun, I returned. I decided to eat in and was seated quickly. I ordered the bun with bbq pork and spring rolls. My meal came out quickly and it looked amazing - there was SO MUCH of it! I guess I should have asked if there was a lunch portion bun, because what I had seemed like the dinner size. I poured the sauce over the bowl and got to work. I immediately noticed that I didn't like the spring rolls - something was definitely off with the taste of them. Also I noticed that given the sheer amount of vermicelli noodles, I would have liked more sauce. The pork was really good though and I inhaled those along with the leafy stuff and carrots. I ended up leaving quite a bit of noodles in my bowl. Checking out was fairly simple. I will return here - the service is good and the facility is clean, and the food is fundamentally fine. This place was once owned by another Vietnamese opener over 20 years ago. My mom and I use to go there every so often, Since returning to the area after retiring from the military, I decided to take my mom here after shopping. Needless to say the ambiance / vibe wasn't the same. No one greeted us when we walked in, it was about 3-5 min and we ended up seating ourselves. There wasn't anything on the menu that stood out so we got the Vietnamese crepe aka bạn xạo. although it was hearty it just didn't taste right. It wasn't cooked in coconut oil like it normally is and it wasn't as crispy. They served it with the "cheaper" lettuce and the dipping sauce was VERY off. We both also got the iced vietnamese coffee which of course wasn't vietnamese coffee. You could definitely taste it was another "off" brand. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend this spot if you're in the mood for "authentic" vietnamese food as the new owners are not Vietnamese and are just "keeping" up with the "typical" vietnamese food items. read more

One of our go-to Vietnamese eateries. They have done well to keep going through the pandemic, but it seems the quality and the flavors of the food have declined somewhat since we first started frequenting them. Located in a strip mall setting, this establishment is very non-descript with a clean environment but minimalistic decor. Service is quick to greet you and get you seated. During the meal it is hit or miss how much attention you might get. And afterwards they can be pleasant enough but they always eye the tip and will actually say something to you if they feel they didn't get enough. Kinda rude at that point. Food is prepared and presented well and comes out pretty quick after placing an order. Vegetable ingredients are actually top notch in freshness and quality. Serving temperatures are good, as are the portion sizes. Flavor has been excellent in the past, with smokey grilled meats, sweet and tangy Chinese-style chicken entrees, and peppery/salty fried meats and seafoods. Lately however the quality of our favorite dish, the salt & pepper pork chops, has noticeably declined with more fatty and bony pieces of meat and hardly any flavor compared to before. Hopefully they can recover, improve their service, and return to their previous flavorful standards because many of the items are still quite delicious. There is also a cute little bar, and it is also very spacious so they can accommodate larger parties. Each sip of the warm broth creates a soothing sensation when traveling down my throat leaving a stream of spice and flavor. They give you a heaping plate of garnishes as well so each bite welcomes a mix of fresh cilantro, jalapeños, basil, and bean sprouts! The bowl sometimes overfills a little because I am so excited and dump everything in, but I am not complaining! And don't be fooled, the chicken might look chunky but it shredded into smaller morsels easily- a sign of good against the grain slicing! In addition to the delicious and savory pho, the exceptionally fast service and the hospitality of the wait staff only added to my positive experience here. I was a bit hesitant to eat here with all the polarizing reviews, but I was cautiously optimistic and it turned out to be a great place to eat! We arrived on a Sunday afternoon. The place was fairly empty for being the lunch hour and we were seated promptly. They have an extensive menu with more than just Vietnamese food; they have general tso and seasame chicken as well which actuality looked quite good. But, we came here with a purpose to order pho. The servers were on top of their game. We had at least 3 different people aid us throughout our meal, all pretty pleasant overall. We ordered our spring rolls and coffee to start and our pho a handful of minutes later. Much to our disappointment, it all came out at once. We should have specified, but it would have been nice to get our pho after our appetizer. It worked out though because we were able to let our soup steep even longer with all the delicious accompaniments. The summer rolls were delicious. I enjoyed the pork way more than shrimp I have had at other locations. The pork was flavored, almost in a bbq'ed way and it was delicious. They served it with a spicy peanut sauce which elevated the flavor even more with its salty sweetness. The iced coffee was a new one for us and a bit confusing. There was a "top contraption" which actually steeped the coffee. It took about 5 minutes for mine to complete, but it slowly filtered down into the cup much like a coffee maker. We didn't realize the condensed milk was already at the bottom of the coffee cup.i normally see it in with the cup of ice, but I appreciated this way much more. I was able to mix the condensed milk in with the coffee prior to pouring it over the ice. All in all, a fun little experience. Lastly, the pho. Was it the best I have ever had? No, but I was pleased with it. I feel like it was missing a depth in flavor which I get elsewhere but it was light and refreshing. The restaurant was nice enough to allow my request off half noodles and more broth - the noodles don't normally do much for me. I loved that they served cilantro with the herbs and toppings I enjoy what flavors it brings to pho. The Jalapenos had no heat, which isn't their fault, but I wish there was a spicy option, Sriracha doesn't cut it for me. I may have missed that on the menu though. The meat was a bit tough and overcooked, but still tasty. I enjoyed this place. I would certainly come back. Plus, their Chinese options intrigue me. My husband had a hankering for pho since it was cold on Black Friday, and since we haven't been here before I told him we should give it a try. The restaurant is spacious and bright. After we sat down, our server came and got our drink order. My husband ordered a Coke. Minutes passed and he had still not gotten it. It appeared that our waiter forgot as he was standing at the counter for awhile. I'm not sure if he overheard us, but he remembered a short while later. I had perused the menu prior to our visit and I was in the mood for the banh hoi (steamed, woven, fine rice vermicelli noodles that is typically topped with chopped scallions). When I've had it elsewhere in the past, it is typically eaten with beef or roasted pork, and served with fish sauce. I ordered the Bo Dun Banh Hoi (Grilled Slice Beef Wrapped with Onion - served with vermicelli, basil, lettuce in rice paper, & dipped in peanut sauce. It also came with a stack of rice papers to wrap them up in. Unfortunately, the rice papers were so wet. The noodle was moist and not dry which is how it should be. I have never had the beef rolled up and didn't care for the flavor. It was not what I was expecting. I was kind of disappointed with the whole dish. My husband took a bite and thought it was decent. He ordered a small bowl of pho of eye round (tai) and thought it was good and comparable to other restaurants. He did indicate that it appeared there was slightly more meat compared to other places. They didn't put the raw white onions which he liked which was a nice plus for him. I took a sample of the broth and thought the seasoning was overpowering. I prefer it to be milder. I did comment how fresh the bean sprouts looked. To close, I will most likely not be coming back since I did not enjoy the authenticity of the dish I had. read more

Amazing! My wife was in the mood for some Pho and we were in the area so, checking Yelp of course, we decided to try Pho Dat Thanh. Was really great! This was at the beginning of July, just after Maryland ended all pandemic restrictions. But they asked that you wear masks inside except when eating, and they even took our temperatures just inside the door (yes, pretty useless, but it tells us that they are rightfully concerned). The restaurant was empty when we first got there, but it was early on a Friday evening (a few more tables filled by the time we left). Sat down and ordered and our food came within just a few minutes. The portions were, as others have said, pretty generous, and it all tasted great. The service was great. Topped my meal off with the Thai tea w/ boba and boom bam life was grand. The inside decor was very very basic but clean. Great pho and fast service. I came with my bookclub and we called ahead to let them know there would be 15 of us. They had all the seating and setups ready when we arrived and were very fast in taking our order and bringing out the food. It was some people in our groups' first time at a Pho place and I think everyone enjoyed their food. The names of the dishes are written in Vietnamese, so I had to read the descriptions, that took a little time, but I found what I wanted. Since this was my first time here I wanted to start with something I was familiar with and it was delicious.
