So again on a Saturday afternoon Aug 23rd my wife and I were in Port Townsend at the Pour house We wanted Thai food unfortunately again the second time in a month they are not open so we went to 123 Thai food right around the corner and it's the second time we've been there Because Pho Filling can't stay open,and the food and service are amazing. It is quick. They have 10 people working on staff and the food is great. First off, the lady taking the orders was super flustered because of the wait so she wasn't listening to details. Pho is like pizza. Even not great pho is still pretty good. And that's where this pho hits for me. It was good enough and nice to not have to drive 49 minutes to get it. The service was fine there were plenty of places to sit even at lunch. Watch out they aren't great with a gluten allergy. And they don't have any GF soy sauce We both had the vegetarian pho without the "ham" pieces. The tofu tasted like the fry oil. Don't bother with the spring rolls. It was a rainy, cold Friday night. What better dinner to get than some Pho. I drove in and ordered Take Out (FYI: Fridays are Take Out Only). I was greeted by the lovely host and my Chicken Pho and Pork Bahn Mi were hot, fresh and ready to eat 20 minutes later. The Chicken Pho has a really lovey gingery broth, the noodles were thin rice noodles and a generous portion of bean sprouts were added. I wish there were more aromatics. I'll ask next time! The Pork Bahn Mi was delicious. Soft and crispy French roll, savory spiced pork, cucumber, carrots and cilantro. Overall great portion and flavor! This was my first pho take-out experience during COVID, and it worked out well enough. The vegetables were so packed in their container they were a bit difficult to separate and combine with the broth. Once I got everything together (with some help after making a bit of a mess) it was a nice meal. I was happy it stayed warm all the way back to our place. I do wish the broth had more flavor, even for veg broth this felt a little lacking. The siracha they offer on the side helped a little. My partner got the pork fried rice which he claims was a solid option with nothing particularly notable about it. I was surprised to see how crowded it was, even for a Saturday evening. I think the food is very good. However I drive 25 minutes from Marrowstone Island to eat here and half the time when it is indicating it is open on the web it is closed, which is very frustrating. I understand circumstances get in the way and they may not be able to be open. read more

We looked online and were happy to find a place with good prices, veggie healthful selections and outdoor seating so our mutt could come. Now here is the thing...nowhere on their website or paper menu do they have their hours. So I bring the exhausted, hungry family here at the end of the day. We wait for about 10 minutes until a disinterested server says, "Oh we are closed. You can take it to go." Ah sigh. At 8 pm on a Saturday night? I would not have come if they had posted their hours on their website. So because we are way too tired to figure out what else to do, we decide to order to go. We wait about 15 more minutes take our completely plastically embalmed take-out food (oh mother Earth...forgive us...I just hate single use plastic) back to a hotel room and try to eat pho soup on a towel on the hotel bed which isn't so nice really. So if the food is amazing, then this will all have a somewhat happy ending. Aaaaaaand...(drum roll)...it totally sucks. The veggie pho broth tastes like salt water. Okay a few fresh veggies, I will give them that. The spring roll was a mushy mess with some sort of strange taste and a mystery veggie meat. My husband got some sort of curry that was actually okay, so if you MUST go there, get that! But really, go somewhere else. The food coop is right around the corner. Better choice. I was at the counter for quite awhile before someone finally came to help me.. they asked if anyone had taken my order--nope, no one.. I was probably waiting at the counter for 10 minutes watching people making/prepping food but no one acknowledging me or making a sign that they were coming to take my order. You also pay for your order and then they bring it to you.. which is weird too. Went to this pho place while in town for a wedding.. I was not expecting much in such a small town. For what it is, it is edible and okay, but really far from the typical pho you would get anywhere else. I agree with others, this place is rather bland--but if you want a little bit more than American food, this is an okay place to go. I loved the food here, yes I see the poor reviews but I can't get past how good the food is. They make awesome spring rolls and they give plenty of peanut sauce unlike other pho restaurants. The chicken teriyaki with salad was amazing. I enjoyed the darker colored teriyaki sauce. My husbands kalbi ribs were better than most kalbi ribs we have had and we've tried many places. They could have added a little more cream or sugar to the viet coffee but it's ok. Also they sell bottles of oyster sauce and fish sauce and 6 packs of canned Viet coffee. It's not a good sign when a Pho shop doesn't know what Pho Dac Biet is. After explaining that they call it their "House Special" I requested water to drink and took a seat. It took about 15 mins for the water to arrive and when it did it was tepid and had a peculiar smell/taste. The Pho Dac Biet (house special) arrived and the broth was warm, not hot like it should be and while it smelled good the taste was lack luster at best and the veggies on the side only had 3 leaves of basil for 2 bowls of soup. I cannot recommend this place unless you've never had pho before and you have no idea what good pho tastes like. The only reason I gave this shop 3 stars is because it is the only Vietnamese shop in the area. When you cannot get the main staple soup of the cuisine you're making correct, you deserve less than the more than generous 3 stars I left. read more

This is the basics done right. It's a plain place that is impeccably clean. The food seems to be really fresh. We had no experience with Vietnamese food and relied on our cheerful server, Martha, for guidance. We had wonderful Cream Curry with chicken and Bun Vermacelli noodles with pork and we liked it all. Pho Thao's little kitchen delivers big Vietnamese flavors. We ordered the jalepeno fresh rolls with grilled pork, lemongrass beef, and chicken pho. Everything was delicious. The pho had a flavorful broth that thankfully lacked the salt that is often common. However, the big pieces of chicken & jalepeno made the pho extra difficult to cut/eat. PSA Buyers beware! The owner is a huge cheapskate. He shorts his employees checks all the time or refuses to pay them. He'll burn your food and serve it to you anyways cuz he's too cheap to remake it. He'll drop food on the ground and still serve it. He smokes cigarettes in the kitchen. Wears gloves while smoking and continues to cook with those same gloves. Thaws out meat in the same sink they wash dishes. The Bahn mi ingredients sit out on the counter 9-10 hours a day surrounded by flies. The pho broth is cooled in huge containers in the back, where the ants are real bad, at room temp, just sitting on the ground. Slimy veggies? No problem, serve them anyways. Expired product? Use it anyways, nobody will know. If you like your insides, don't eat here. The place and owner are a joke. read more

Great pho! I had the "beef stew" which is actually just pho with bigger chunks of meat and some added carrots. I know I liked it a lot more than my wife would have if she had been with me. The problem for her (and I'm sure various others) is that some of the meat is a bit fatty and Americans have generally decided that fat is bad, disgusting, etc. But you can work around that ff this is like any other pho place - just order the meats that aren't so fatty. Pho Thao is just across the street from the Pourhouse, which is probably the best place in Port Townsend to get beer. The Pourhouse doesn't offer much in the way of food but they do have menus from Pho Thao and various other local restaurants. You can order a Pho Thao lunch from your table at the Pourhouse and they'll deliver or you can order lunch at Pho Thao and ask them to take it across the street when it's ready. Absolutely delicious! Our family enjoyed the beef pho (meatballs and tendon were delish), shrimp spring rolls (the dipping sauce was a bit too concentrated with peanut butter, for our preferences), a Vietnamese beef sandwich (the husband says this is the best he has ever had), lemongrass beef bun (very generous serving) and bubble drinks (the green tea was our fave).
