Misrepresented a dish on the menu by verbally saying that they cook chow mein like lo mein with soft noodles. When I ordered I asked specifically about the ingredients, but it came out with all broken hard noodle strings. Worst, the man at front desk (the owner?) seemed to have a self-hatred attitude about his own race. He was only snappy to Asian customers, including myself. I had the sweet and sour pork lunch. It was really good. However, it only came with soup and rice. I thought that was a way too little for the 16 $ price. I had to pay extra for tea and appetizer (20$)! I got the fried shrimp and they were the frozen out of the box crap you get at safeway. The tea was hot water. We come here often, the employees are great, the atmosphere is lovely. I hope this isn't racist to say but it feels very Chinese. It feels like when we walk in we're immersed in the culture, it feels like a privilege that they can share it with us in the middle of Sequim. The decor, the mood, the family members bring out the food, it feels very personal and it's lovely. We had Christmas dinner here last year, it was a special time. Every time we go, we look forward to it. Taste is great, mood/ambiance is so nice, service is so respectful and kind... honestly they make me want to tip them larger everytime we go! My family of 4 came here for dinner last weekend while visiting from out of town, though I have been here one other time previously. Both times the food was absolutely phenomenal. Awesome experience. Spouse and I popped in last night before we headed to an event in Port Angeles. Our first time in, and it was great. I was a little concerned based on some of the other reviews, but my experience was nothing like those other reviews. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and they did not hesitate to provide us with excellent service. The decor was very nice and well thought and was very calming and relaxing for a small town reataurant. There was an issue with their phones, and many local customers came in to let them know, with one customer even helping contact the phone company for them, so their fan base locally is very loyal. The food was excellent. Everything was made from scratch and not from frozen. my spouse loved the orange chicken, and I had the Chow Ho Fun (thick rice noodleds with pork and scallions and spouts). They were very authentic and had amazing flavor. We tried their pork bbq buns, and we were really impressed. Very hand made and just great flavor. I am not sure why people are saying the staff is rude-- this place seems to have very friendly people if you are also polite. I am also not sure why someone would have been rude about chopsticks-- I had no issue and with a quick google, was able to produce the butchered work for chopsticks in busted mandarin; they accomadated me without issue and hepped me even correct my Mandarin. Two people, two entrees (one curry, one chicken/veggie dish combo), and one appetizer = $77 No drinks ordered, as we 'thought' the hot tea was complimentary as it is at every Chinese restaurant I've ever been to, but it's not free at Fortune Star, they charge you for it. The Wonton soup broth was very bland. My dish was Chicken with Garlic Sauce over "vegetables". All I got was julienned zucchini for vegetables, boring and bland. We went out last night for a family dinner with my mother who was visiting. This was the first time any of us had visited. We were all impressed with the atmosphere. It would be a great date night restaurant. The tables all had spotless table clothes with glass tops. There was a large wall fountain and candles. Service was very professional. Every one in the family raved about how great their food was. I had kung pao chicken, and it was the best I've had in over a decade. Lots of chicken, fresh vegetables and the perfect amount of sauce. We all had leftovers. If you haven't visited you're missing out. I also like another Chinese restaurant nearby but the atmosphere at Fortune Star is better if that's important to you. read more

Service was fine but the food was just plain bad. As others have said the General Tso's is not even real chicken. The egg drop soup was sweet and had corn kernels in it (couldn't tell if they were supposed to be in there or not). The texture was really off on everything, and to top it off my fortune cookie didn't even have a fortune. Would not recommend. read more

Additionally, they serve generous servings that are suitable for sharing by two or three people.Three persons can eat their enormous dish of wanton soup. From the dining room to the reception area, the service is excellent.They are really polite.The dining area is tidy and spotless. I adore how understated their wall decorations are.Since it's a Chinese restaurant, I was just curious as to why there aren't chopsticks and perhaps some free tea.One of the staff members came to the reception area and handed us my husband's sweater and don, which he had forgotten. It also had a layer of seaweed wrapping the shrimp and kept the tofu skin nice and crispy. I was thoroughly disappointed by the fried dumplings. They were store bought and not made by the restaurant. Such an easy thing to make! Why lower your standards by buying them pre-made and just heating them? The Singapore curry Mei-Fun was very good. Lots of chicken, shrimp, pork and beef. I also liked the fact that there weren't bean sprouts in the dish. The hot and sour soup wasn't as good as Dynasty restaurant. We also ordered eggplant and fried tofu. We got broccoli and fried tofu. Out of eggplant? Why couldn't you let us know? Why do we need to drive all the way home to find out you gave us something we didn't order? We were originally planning on going to a different Chinese place, but it was closed, so we decided to try Fortune Star. We honestly wish we would have kept driving. I awarded it 3 stars, 1 for being open and having plenty of parking spots, another for quick seating and nice ambiance, last star because the food was good. However, the portions were very small and it was expensive. We paid $49 (before tip) for 3 lunch specials, although the chow mein didn't come with rice or soup, and we walked out starving. Had to go to Safe Way to grab a frozen pizza. We will not be back. read more

When I think about Chinese take-out, I imagine huge portions of delicious food with plenty of leftovers. Which is what I was hoping for during our mini-vacation in Sequim. However, I was greeted with a to-go box that was half the size of a traditional box. HALF THE SIZE!?! Total bummer. I was not happy to say the least. Not a good start. When I sat down to enjoy my portion of food I discovered it also did not include the eggroll listed on the menu. I was in for a treat. Was it the best Mongolian Beef I've ever had? Probably, yes. Was the hot and sour soup to die for? Yep. And was the fried rice delicious and well-seasoned? Check. The food was incredible! They just need to adjust the portion sizes and/or their consistency and accuracy. All told, it's still definitely worth a visit. read more

This place reminds me the Chinese restaurants in the '80 down the the "Combination Meal Options". I absolutely love it. In each option, you get one cup of soup, one egg roll, two dumplings and a main course. For part of two, we ordered Sesame Chicken combo with Hot and sour soup, and fried rice. And a House Special crispy noodle, and salt and pepper pork chop. Food came really quickly. Hot and sour soup is in brown soy sauce based sauce. It is so '80s, it sends me back to my childhood. The egg roll is piping hot and has rice noodle in it. Very authentic. The dumpling were steamed or boiled, not greasy. Just enough to wet our appetite. Main course sesame chicken is crispy with a coat of yummy sesame based sauce. It has some broccoli so it's healthy. They cut salt and peppered pork chop into bite size so it is easy for our chopsticks and fingers. It came with jalapeño pepper slices and decorative red bell pepper. Again it has vegetable, very healthy. House special crispy noodle has mix vegetable with shrimps, beef slices, and yummy sauce over crispy noodles. We had so much food there was enough leftover for another meal. What a deal. read more

You will not get what you ordered. Your take out order will be ramen noodles you can cook at home. They will smile at you and lie about what you ordered and charge you full price. My mom and I have tried to eat here several times, but every time we get yesterdays dried up pork or beef, or the pork fried rice is just rice drenched in soy sauce. The lady on the phone said yes, but didn't sound enthusiastic and said that they're closing soon. We came to a full restaurant where pretty much every other table was taken. Our waitress rushed us through the menu and seemed pretty annoyed when I was trying to explain to her what dish I was looking for (simply the noodles on the picture attached). I was a bit skeptical of this place but it was a pleasant surprise. For how small of a town Sequim is, we have had surprisingly good luck finding excellent ethnic cuisine. Lots of locally owned and operated restaurants around here are quite delicious. We tried 4 things: 1) Fried Spring Rolls - hot, crispy vegetarian spring rolls served with a brown dipping sauce. Good. 2) Shrimp Chow Fun - better than any chow fun I tried dining at MANY ethnic restaurants in Chinatown in San Francisco, and where I live in Florida. Came with a good amount of shrimp and the noodles were well seasoned/coated in sauce. Quite good. 3) Garlic Baby Bok-Choy - Generous amount of bok choy and garlic - very tasty. Bok choy was tender, well flavored, and in a light colored thin sauce. 4) Vegetable MuShu - As good or better than most MuShu's I have tried. Comes with the sauce and pancakes. And at the end of dinner in addition to the fortune cookies that every chinese restaurant gives you, this restaurant gives you cake-like bread split down the middle filled with whip cream. All in all I would return, and thought this was a great little find. I'd give it a 4.5/5 but I am rounding it up to 5.
