PHO? MORE LIKE FAUX. I honestly have no idea if I even went to the same place as all these other yelpers. I had such a drastically different and terrible experience. Before I even got my food I watched them make their bubble tea which they poured oil and coffee mate into. Please tell me that's not normal. The lady then poured some on her glove and licked it off her glove to taste it. If you're going to lick your glove and keep making food, you're defeating the purpose of wearing a glove. The pho wasn't pho, I don't even know what to call it. The noodles weren't flat rice noodles, they were spaghetti noodles. The broth was disgusting. The beef was old, I couldn't eat it, my friend ate some of it and I really enjoyed holding her hair while she puked all night. This is my go to place for comfort food for over a decade now. I go at least 3-4 times a month. The soups almost never fail you, well balanced flavour, lots of meat, noodles well cooked. Occasionally the broth is a bit too salty or the noodles get overcooked, but that doesn't happen often. Now, the service...other than one friendly guy that I accquanited over the years (who unfortunately is rarely there these days), I've never received any great service. Most servers come off as unpleasant and abrupt, avoidant of eye contact and polite phrases. The vibe is more like "get your sh*t and get out". Now I don't say this in a bad way, given that it is an inexpensive and high turnaround type of restaurant. But I can definitely resonate with lots of other reviews that mention the "rude attitude", especially with one particular individual who seems to have turned off many patrons. It's almost comical to watch her serve with dread and indifference. By the time you say thanks when she brings your food to the table, she's already 3 metres away, never acknowledging your existence. Which makes me feel silly for even saying thank you. Based on my observation though, I don't think she and they in general mean to be rude. It's probably just the way she is and they are. Now, I would imagine this type of behaviour probably has driven away would be regulars... but who am I to say that, judging from the fact that they've moved, upgraded and opened another location in the past few years, maybe this no-frill-with-a-touch-of-rudeness business model has worked well. read more

My friend and I have recently had some .. issues.. trying new cuisine on Davie street. First the Red Burrito fiasco, then I had an inedible churro AND empanada at the House Of Empanadas (where his friends also went and did NOT have a fun time..)... We pass by Pho Goodness all the time and giggle at the name. So cute. Why we were so afraid to try it, I don't know. We avoided it for a couple of months and kept going to Pho Central down the street (stick to what you know!), until we saw the lights were off there. WHAT???! That NEVER happens!! Turns out they were closed for Chinese New Year. It was cold and windy and definitely soup weather, so off to Pho Goodness we went. Pho Goodness is waaay bigger than Pho Central, big enough for a flatscreen tv on their wall! The seating is sort of cramped, but not as bad as Pho Central. (Trust me, I am not hating on Pho Central at all, just making a couple of comparisons ;)) The menu is a smidge pricier, but the food is worth it. :) Our server was friendly. We did have to ask for things for a couple of times, but that's the norm. She poured us fresh tea and smiled a lot. The tv wasn't SO loud, but commercials seemed to be the only background noise. I think music would be good. I had the lemongrass chicken plate, that came with chicken, steamed rice, a fried sunny-side up egg and some salad. I broke the egg over the rice and it was amaaaaazing. Pretty good for 8 bucks! My friend had the beef ball soup and seemed to enjoy it. I finished off with the iced Vietnamese coffee with the condensed milk (force of habit). So yum. Tax and tip for 2 meals and an iced coffee, 22 bucks. Not bad. We'll come back. :) read more

We went here on the opening day and it was delicious! I ordered the pho 20, came with lots of meat, generous portion and good authentic broth. My friend ordered the lemongrass chicken and the chicken was juicy with lots of lemongrass flavour, the rice fresh, came with lots of salad and the best fish sauce we've had outside of Vietnam. Best pho I had in Vancouver ( and I went to quite a few places ) I ordered item 22 which is pho with rare beef and brisket , top notch , the soup base was tasty noodles and beef were excellent and not too fat for the beef. We wanted to order the vegetarian pho for my wife who is vegan but they sold out ( will have to come again to try that) it's a veggie pho base soup with lots of veggies and tofu. Since they were sold out she ordered the rice noodle dish with vegetable and peanut sauce, this one was very tasty and filling. We shared also a veggie spring roll appetizer dish which was also good. 4 Stars for the pho. 2 for the pork bahn mi. I really enjoyed the flavours of the beef pho.... sweet and savoury. Good enough that I didn't need to add any chilis or much flavoring, just a big helping of basil. About 30 minutes after eating a bowl, I had an unquenchable thirst that could not be helped. When that happens for me, I know my meal had MSG in it. Which is fine, I understand it's a flavour enhancer. But I live down the road from Chau Veggie Express, and their pho is amazing (and quicker). The pork bahn mi was tough and chewy. It seemed like the cheapest cut of pork that was available, and then marinated for a couple hours before cooked and My girlfriend thought the veggie pho was pretty good. It was nice that the tofu wasn't too rubbery (her words). Service was top notch! Would I go back? Probably. I don't head out on Davie street often, but I'm sure I'll stop in for lunch now and again. read more

Their Pho is decent - although a little bit salty, I suspect they use MSG. I'm writing this review because I ordered a "vermicelli bowl with lemongrass chicken and no cilantro" to go and I got a "rice dish with lemongrass pork and cilantro" (ok, it was just a few leaves but still). Hmm, how should I put it? The food just isn't great, at least the pho with beef and brisket and combination special aren't. The broth was still bland, the beef didn't look or taste fresh. The brisket had shimmers of off-colour and was pretty tough. The broth to noodles to meat proportions were just off. There was a pool of water at the bottom of the vegetables side plate, and it soaked some of the basil leaves. I didn't finish my food (hardly ever happens), but felt stuffed yet unsatisfied. Having given Pho Goodness a second shot, I don't think I'll go back for anything soupy. How many Pho places can you count in this city alone? Among the MANY (complete UNDERSTATEMENT), this has got to be my favourite! It's even run by its very own Vietnamese family -- yes, it's a FAMILY business! Convenient location? Check. Delicious and authentic pho? Check. Great staff/service? Check. Value for $? Check. 'Convenient' location might not be entirely true for you all, but I reside in the area so it makes perfect sense. They could probably do with a bigger shop as they get more popular. As it is, they're already scrambling to fit everyone in their tiny little space during the rush. It's never an issue for me to wait for a table. I have been going to this place for a while but I plan on never coming back because of bad service. I don't particularly care for supporting a business that celebrates rudeness. Especially when there is another good Pho place right across the street. I was placed on a table closest to the back and nearest to the washroom when an opening of a new table became available to the front. As I requested to be moved up there to the waitress who has worked there for a while, she brazenly insisted that there was no difference. The food here, specifically the pho is really good, truly a 3.5 star but the restaurant itself and I have a love/hate relationship. The staff is friendly and helpful and the place is clean w/really good food but it's small and there's a large flat screen t.v. on the wall blaring cops or the like and it's super annoying. Why not have some chill music or even the travel channel on a lower volume setting; but it's always spike t.v. super loud. Pretty good pho\broth. Only one size for $7.50 (basically a large.) I also had an order of the fried pork spring roles which were pretty good. Service is meh, what you would expect at a non-westernized pho restaurant. These guys probably wish they had a bigger space because it's always packed when I walk by. But this one has a particularly good broth, and they're very happy to accommodate special requests (I am generally grain-free, and they happily do my soup with extra veggies instead of noodles). Popped by Pho Goodness upon a serious craving for Vietnamese and was pleasantly surprised to find tasty, savory soup, yummy rolls and friendly quick service. The salad rolls are really not that great as others here commented. I think they make them in advance so the rice paper hardens a bit. They aren't bad, just not the greatest (I had better). The pork roll is made on the spot and it is yummy. Prices are very fair. They accept cards. Parking outside on Davie is not expensive. All in all a good experience; would come here again. read more

Some of the best pho broth I've ever had. No lie. The portions are huge, the price is great, and the area is perfect for people watching. If you're gluten-free (like myself) the back of the menu has a list of items to choose from - including all pho minus beef balls. I can handle that. My boyfriend and I both ordered the special (mine without beef balls) and easily could have split the bowl. The broth was clear, yet flavorful. You didn't need to add a bunch of hot sauce or chili oil (even though the chili oil was very good). I could see this place getting packed during normal meal hours, we were here Sunday at 2pm so had an easy time. I wish we had a place like this near me! Good Pho, good prices and the place is bright & clean looking (compared to some other Pho places I've been). Ordered the Pho 35 (Grilled Lemon Chicken with rice, salad and fried Salad Roll) and the Pho 49 (Short Ribs with Noodles and Fried Salad Roll). Both were good, tasty and of a good sized portion. Fish sauce used for dipping was light and delicate, not overpowering. There were a number of customers getting orders to go. and all the tables were filled (note, there are only 10 tables for this small space). Service could have been a tad faster, but it was OK. Walls, floors & windows were clean. You could see into the kitchen and how/what they were cooking. Considering each Pho meal ordered was $7.95, it was good value for the money. Only giving it a 3 Star at this point - I'll be back to try some other dishes and to see if it goes up or down. read more

This is a really delicious pho place with quick and brisk service. Although I normally prefer my pho with a ton of Sriracha, the broth at Pho Goodness was so good that I forwent the Sriracha for at least half of the bowl. It's also near a bunch of shops and restaurants so great for tourists. Some other perks include a giant TV screen for sports and several tables big enough to accommodate groups of 4. In the front of the store, there is also bar-like seating for those looking to get in a quick bite alone for lunch or dinner. read more

This is the best Vietnamese food I've had in Vancouver, although I must admit I have not tried too many places. A bit pricey and certainly not the healthiest. The pork vermicelli is my go to, and while it's delicious, you can tell it is not the best for your waistline. It has bacon in it. The chicken vermicelli is also good, but the chicken has the skin on it. The salad rolls are outstanding, and there are lots of veggies in the vermicelli. Overall excellent, but would get 5 stars if the prices were more reasonable, and the food was healthier. read more

Pho Goodness was our first stop to warm up on a chilly day. I tend to sample pho in cities I visit and this broth is among the best. Good pho place considering it is in Downtown. First impression was negative, apparently clean but actually dirty. I was invited to take a seat and the waitress was 'cleaning' the table that another guy was leaving at that time. She just grabbed some noodles with her hand and put them in the cloth which was used rift after to wipe the table. The were many globs of sauce on the table... The food itself was good. I came for pho and I ordered the number 20, the one with all the goodness! There is only one size by 9 bucks. The portion is good and came plenty of meat, mostly rare meat on top, and just a couple of tripe pieces. Tasted good, a little bit salty. Hands down, my favorite Pho spot! I always get #27 (seafood pho) with veggie spring rolls to start & I'm never disappointed! The portions are big, delicious and the price point is great. I'm a big fan of Vermicelli bowls at Vietnamese restaurants, and I've gotta say, they do it really well here! I got the Grilled Lemongrass Pork with Spring Roll on Vermicelli (9.75) and it was delicious! There was an ample amount of pickled veggies and beansprouts, as well as grilled pork itself! The pork had a light sweetness to it, an a slight chewiness that reminded me of short ribs. The spring roll was also quite crispy and had a delicious filling consisting of pickled carrot, daikon, and some mushrooms. Unfortunately, it was a bit on the oilier side. The price is a bit on the steeper side here, but it's quite damn tasty and filling! read more

One of the better Pho places on Davie Street to get a solid vegetarian version of the Vietnamese soup. The veg broth is clean tasting, not oily or salty and actually has some flavour to it. If they ever decided to do it up with some lotus root, this might be the best place in the west end! My lunching partners always get the rare beef pho and are never disappointed. Spring Rolls, Veg Salad Rolls and Banh Mi Chay are solid but nothing out of the ordinary. I really enjoy the service here, especially at lunch time, it is fast and reliable. There are line ups but they mitigate the waiting time by taking orders while you wait for a seat, then deliver the goods within a few minutes of sitting down.
