    Thai tea

The servers are so friendly here! I felt so welcomed and the restaurant is so clean. Every staff member super friendly and asking if I'm doing ok. Thai tea was a bit sweet for my liking but the pho was wonderful! Can't wait to bring people here, thank you for treating me so kindly

Pho was very good. The broth was light and not greasy. The tendon was melt in your mouth tender. A regular size was very filling and the large looks like a competition contest size. The wings were nice, hot and crispy but the flavor was missing something. Maybe marinating? Msg? They accept credit cards and cash.

By my count, this is the fifth pho place in San Diego I've visited since I moved back here in November. This one is my favorite so far. Naturally, the broth is among my favorites. But also, the soup has a lot more green onion than most other places, which I also like. Plus, they have an extra large special that has a giant beef rib. The texture of the rib meat is exquisite. It might sound weirdly specific, but I appreciate restaurants that have a special extra large portion of whatever their main specialty is. I don't eat quite as much as I used to when I was younger, but I still find myself ordering two entrees or an entree and other stuff quite often. Like, if a default large is not enough, I have to get a large and fresh rolls or a large and a bahn mi when I'm hungry. But sometimes I don't want a bahn mi, I just want more pho. I like that they have boba tea. Finally, I'm not sensitive to service quality, but I guess I have to admit that service at pho places is somewhat hit or miss. I've been to places where I feel like I'm inconveniencing the owner by walking in. Even on this metric, this joint is pretty good. The owner seems to care and the employees are friendly. I like the big water vase things.

Stopped by a pho spot in National City recently. Service was good and the staff were friendly and attentive. The pho itself was above average overall -- good portion size and solid flavor. For my taste, the broth could have been a little hotter temperature-wise, and it leaned slightly on the sweeter side with not as much herbal depth as I usually like in pho. Still enjoyable, just not the most complex broth I've had. I also ordered egg rolls, which tasted good, but they came out after I had already finished my pho, so the timing could have been better. Overall still a good experience with friendly service and decent pho. I'd come back and give it another try!

i usually go to the same pho spot but i decided to try this place since the reviews are so good :0! one of my friends got the pho kha special which came with a beef rib and it kinda seemed overcooked and chewy. the pho broth was pretty good though, but i'd say it's too salty for my taste. we also tried the spicy chicken wings since everyone was raving about it in the reviews :o but i'd say it had an off flavor, maybe from the oil they were frying in? other than that, i liked the spice! the egg rolls were delish though and their nuoc mam was delish :p the service was good and friendly, but a bit busy and we ended up getting up to pay at the front.

Ordered to-go lunch shrimp spring rolls and matcha boba with rainbow jelly. I didn't call ahead but they took my to-go order and was ready quickly! That was greatly appreciated because I was limited with time and there were people eating at the restaurant and also could hear more to go orders being placed over the phone. The restaurant has a casual ambiance and I've had their pho here before which is also very good. The peanut sauce was really yummy and they included 3 different chili sauces and that was the best part I love me some spice with my peanut sauce. Yum!

Was craving some pho and came across this gem hidden in a small strip mall in national city. Ordered the chicken pho and a salty lemonade. The pho was hands down the tastiest bowl of chicken soup I've had in my life! There were a generous amount of tender chicken slices and perfectly cooked noodles in the bowl as well. First time in my life that I finished an entire bowl. The salty lemonade was also outstanding with bits of pickled salty lemon pieces in it. Yum! Definitely on my to go again list

    Sad looking ox tail ):

Food is good but QA needs to be better. I ordered deliver through DoorDash- pho with tendon, brisket and ox tail, bo kho, and banh mi thit nguoi. Pho- the broth is a little oily and salty, but the flavor was good. I ended up scraping the oil off the top and adding water to the broth, so all is good. However, the ox tail was super small and sad looking and the tendon was missing.. what a shame. The oxtail was still very yummy, tender and flavorful despite this. Bo kho - very good, I recommend it. Banh mi thit nguoi- I wouldn't suggest getting the banh mi here. First of all, I ordered thit nguoi but they gave me all cha lua. Maybe they think customers don't know the difference? R they ran out? But these two meats are not the same. There wasn't enough do chua and at some points I just got full bites of pate. Overall- I would suggest trying this place is you like a heavy, flavorful pho that may be a bit oily. Don't get the banh mi. My family is from the north so we prefer to cleaner broth, so it really just comes down to a personal preference.

This is my second time coming here. It was still as good as I remembered I was impressed by how fresh everything tasted. The broth is rich and flavorful without being heavy, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and the portions are generous--exactly what you want from a great pho spot. The service was incredibly fast, too. I barely had time to sit down before my bowl arrived steaming hot, and the staff was kind, attentive, and efficient the entire time. The atmosphere is cozy warm and welcoming, perfect for a rainy day. But the real star? Their blended Vietnamese coffee. SO good. It's creamy, bold, not overly sweet, and honestly one of the best I've had in San Diego. I'd come back for the coffee alone.

First time here. Friendly staff. We ordered oxtail pho. Delicious. Broth was very flavorful. We arrived just in time when it wasn't quite busy. By the time we finished there were people waiting. Server was attentive and kept our water filled. Inside was small but roomy enough. Definitely will be back when in San Diego again.

They only have a few selections on their menu. They specialize in the beef rib bone Cambodian…read morenoodle soup and they have huge spring rolls. The meat on the bones was so tender, it fell right off of the bone. Their broth is so delicious. Don't forget to taste that before you put in that bomb ass house chili oil. And to all the Cambodians from a Cambodian, it tastes better than most of your momas house, j/k, but I'm not, lol. The chili oil sauce is spicy, but that's how I like it. And oh, that sugar cane drink completed the whole meal. It was good and not too sweet, just the way I like it. The owners were great. They were so sweet and welcoming. Don't forget to order some of their Chili oil house sauce for the house. I would definitely come back again if I am in the San Diego area. I highly recommend this place. "If you're going to get Vietnamese food, go to the one on Sweetwater" - my Elderly Aunt…read more Now, my elderly aunt (in her 80's) hardly ever voices her opinion. She was raised to be soft-spoken. So, if she insists on going to a specific restaurant for Vietnamese food, then you know that the place is good. Spoiler alert: she was right. As an out-of-towner, nothing makes me happier than trying a family-owned business, especially when it's recommended by someone (bonus points, when it's someone who's culinary POV I respect). I was meeting up with my Godson & his family. When my aunt overheard that we would be going to meet at a nearby Vietnamese restaurant in National City (which will remain unnamed), she insisted that we go to the one on "Sweetwater" (Pho Mai Cali & Grill) instead. FOOD: Eggrolls - 8.5 / 10 Warm, crispy. Just how I like them. I always appreciate when they are served alongside their signature Vietnamese sweet + sour sauce. The fish sauce is especially pronounced & very welcome. #8 (Pho with Rare Steak + Meatball) - 8.9 / 10 Rich, beefy, umami broth. The steak is tender. The meatballs have an interesting spongy texture. Plenty of long, chewy rice noodles. I don't always get pho when I go to a Vietnamese restaurant (I know, I know, I'm weird). So, when I get pho, it is a big compliment & a vote of confidence. I liked it & would gladly come back. Huge shout-out to the entire team. Service was phenomenal. We were a group of 7 waiting on 2 (coming from work). Our female server was beyond gracious with the numerous times she check-in on us. Especially with not saying a word that we went quite a bit over their closing time (I hate doing that, but it was others in my party that arrived later, & I was overly generous with gratuity in cash). Please support family-owned businesses like Pho Mai Cali & Grill. I would happily come back any day of the week.

I've stopped here plenty of times for a quick Vietnamese coffee run before my tee time next door…read more Since the shop is still fairly new, the interior isn't the most visually appealing and definitely has more of a mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall vibe. That said, the food always looks amazing, and there's usually a steady stream of customers whenever I stop by. One thing that surprised me was the coffee. It's noticeably lighter in color, almost as if cream or milk has already been added, compared to the traditional dark, strong Vietnamese coffee made with espresso and condensed milk. It's a different style than what I'm used to, but still worth trying if you're curious. The place is small, with fewer than six tables, so it's more of a quick spot to grab pho or satisfy a Vietnamese food craving rather than somewhere to hang out for a long meal. Again, it's definitely smaller than most pho restaurants, but sometimes those are the places that surprise you the most.
