Fried shrimp cake, and a wrong #11. Both where the roaches were at. :(

Updated pictures with white mold inside of their table cup of chili. Along with the pictures of cockroaches from 2024. Food was just ok. $18 for a large bowl. Used to be $15 but hey, is what it is. At least the pho wasnt moldy.

I ordered through Uber Eats and I have to say for delivery service the food was great!! Probably would have been way better in person ! I got the beef noodle soup and it tasted amazing. Everything was packed tightly so no spill. The beef was so tender and cooked as soon as I put it in the broth and the vegetables smelled fresh! Everything I ordered was great and everything perfectly separated for me to put together. I recommend this place at least for delivery. I'll see when I can stop by and have a meal in person.

This is my go-to spot for lunch when I'm craving pho. No frills, just good food. Ample parking in the plaza.

This is a sleeper. Pretty clean Tiny place next to 99 Ranch, FC. Simple menu, quick service, fast cooking. Apps, Rolls, Pho, Bun, Rice, coffees and teas are on a consolidated menu. I ordered #3 Pho and the hot broth was excellent. As well as garnishes Grilled Pork with Cha Gio rolls on bun rice noodles was delicious. Marinated and grilled Pork flavor was really exquisite. Almost a bit sweet since it gets caramelized on the grill. Nice thin fat trim accentuated the grill char with toasted peanuts. Crisp, Fried Spring rolls were very good, filled with a moist peppery pork and carrot and glass noodle filling that did not get soggy, and was seasoned perfectly. Overall one of the best tasting Viet Cafe meals ever in the SFBA, including the venerable Tu Lan in the tenderloin across from the Moscone Center. Apparently they have bahn mi sandos too

Dropped by on weekday around 7pm and the place was half full with a mixture of people. The place was clean and service was prompt and polite. Food was served within 10 minutes or so for the entire table. This place is the most affordable in the area for Vietnamese food by several dollars and flavor is spot on. The pho broth was clean and delicious. Other dishes were well liked. Definitely be a favorite for the area.

Really good food for a no frills joint. We were looking for a quick bite as we were driving through. We chanced it and gave this little place a try. It's great for fresh, hot and tasty Vietnamese fare. Would go again.

This is my family's go to pho spot in the area. Customer service is about average and the food comes out fast. Broth is tasty, with a strong beef flavor and minimal star anise/clove aroma that we prefer. Easy parking in the plaza, free wifi, and located next to 99 Ranch to go do groceries after you eat. Bowl of pho is $14-16 each

We order pho and a beef stew, both were good but maybe a little more oily than we prefer. The waiter was friendly and the food came out fast. The restaurant fills up fast with a weekday lunch crowd, but isn't too busy or loud. The plug in air freshener is too strong, the waitress wouldn't unplug it but turned it down which helped.

For the san Mateo region it's so HARD finding really authentic asian food. This feels like home and truly is good quality for miles. ma&pa shop are always a great go to when missing comfort food. This place I will always come back to. My favorites are the imperial rolls and soups. Really delicious and hits the spot. Coffee you can definitely taste the coffee and not full of condensed milk which we love. Service is quick and flawless. Ample room for seating inside room for groups and family. Always sweet and kind service.

I came again for dinner with my family and everything was consistently good as usual. We even got to try a couple new things we haven't tried before. We ordered our three favorite rolls to start than for entrees got the filet pho, big gao fried rice and house fried rice Pho Roll 5/5 stuffed with flavorful ribeye, crispy shallots on top add a nice crunch and the fish sauce dip is the perfect perfect compliment and not overly fishy at all Imperial Roll 5/5 always served hot and when you wrap the lettuce, Thai basil and mint (all served with) around the roll it creates the best bite Fresh Shrimp Roll 5/5 something simple just executed so well. The shrimp is plump and juicy with all of the fresh veggies and rice noodles. The peanut sauce is savory snd sweet Filet Mignon Pho 4.5/5 just nitpicking, the beef could've been a little more tender. But that was the only thing I could pick out. The broth was deep and umami. The accompaniments turned it into a flavor bomb. The noodles had the right amount of chew and were so satisfying Big GAO Fried Rice 4.5/5 big portioned served with a big piece of bone marrow. When all mixed with the steak and rice it creates a perfect bit. I do wish the salad it came with was dressed but the raw veggies serve as a good palate cleanser between bites House fried rice 5/5 first time getting this and was genuinely surprised how good it was. Another fairly simple dish just executed perfectly. The Chinese sausage was sweet and reminded me of a Filipino longanisa. The shrimp and egg were both cooked well too and the seasoning of the rice was savory and flavorful The service was quick as usual and we were lucky to get there when the place wasn't packed yet. We came on a Thursday and we were one of the first in line even though we arrived just five minutes before opening. The dining room had energy but wasn't loud. We just see amazing looking plates being brought to everyone around us. I've tried a couple dishes here that weren't for me in the past but once you know what you like here and see the things GAO does especially well, you'll never have a bad experience

Parking is not easy around the area, but there are parking lots close by. Food: 3/5 We order 4 dishes: - Imperial rolls $16 3.5/5 (5 small egg rolls with 2 piece of lettuce, herbs, and dipping sauce) decent, but expensive. - Garlic noodles 3.5/5 pretty standard, not amazing - Banh Khot $21 2.5/5 (2 piece of lettuce, herbs, and sauce) pretty sad tbh. Taste was ok, but 1 shrimp and thin batter is disappointing. - Shaking Beef with rice $40 4/5. This was the best dish of the night. The marinaded beef was tender and a good balance of flavors. *On a side note, they don't give you enough lettuce for the Imperial rolls and Banh Khot. If you want more, that'll be $4.50 for a late of lettuce. Also, they don't have any sauce or condiments on the table like they do at traditional Viet restaurants. Service: 3/5 I only have it a 3, and not lower, because the guy that was helping the waiter did a great job. The waiter we had seemed like he was high or on something. Every interaction was awkward. He was not engaging, didn't smile, and took way too long when we asked for chilli paste. He literally forgot about it immediately after we asked. I kept giving him the look, but it didn't register. The Latin guy helping him should have been the waiter and our waiter should have been helping him. Atmospher: 2/5 We sat upstairs. Decent restaurant design. Was really LOUD where we sat. There was an obnoxious group sitting behind us. Overall: 3/5 This was our second time here. First time wasn't great either, but they just opened at the time, and we figure we'd give them another shot. With tip, the bill was about $120. For a Vietnamese restaurant to charge that much and not deliver on what's supposed to be an elevated experience is disappointing. The restaurant is gimmicky, fall short on the dishes that aren't readily available on the peninsula, and the service did not meet expectations.

That really threw me off, especially because I saw a Yelp review before coming that showed bean sprouts with the pho. Secondly, they served my pho with thick, flat noodles instead of the traditional rice noodles you normally expect. I politely asked the waitress if those were the only noodles they offered, and she told me they also have the traditional pho noodles.. you just have to request them. I've honestly never had to ask for regular pho noodles anywhere else, so that was really strange to me. The broth was also very watered down and lacked flavor. The chicken was dark and honestly didn't even look like chicken, which made me not want to eat it. I took two bites of my bowl and ended up leaving very disappointed. I also want to mention that parking was a hassle. There's very limited street parking, which made the experience even more frustrating. I understand that every pho restaurant has its own recipe, and I'm very open-minded when it comes to trying different places. I'm not a picky eater at all, but this experience was just way off from what I'd expect when ordering pho. I'm honestly not sure how this place has so many positive reviews based on the experience I had. The one positive thing I can say is that the customer service was good. The staff was kind and attentive throughout my visit. Unfortunately, the food itself was a 0/10 for me, and I wouldn't come back.

And everything we had was excellent! My personal favorites were the sizzling wagyu loin, which was perfectly cooked and abundantly juicy and flavorful, and the warm, tasty keema curry. I'd also never had cold pho before, but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.
