I'm understanding the negative reviews on taste and price. I had ordered the small pho with tendon and steak. The price for a very small bowl of pho was steep, I figured it might be worth it? NOPE, possibly the worst tasting broth I've ever had, very metallic and "tinny". No flavor and the portions were freakishly small. The pricing is what really stood out, for the quality and portion, it was a little shocking. The other dish I ordered was the chicken Bun thit nuong, that had some redeeming qualities with taste. I found it interesting that there wasn't any Asian people working there, should have been a red flag in the first place. I would not recommend this place. read more

The restaurant is clean and neat, the service was EXTREMELY fast, and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this place. I had their brisket pho, and it was just the right ratio of brisket and noodles. The portions were perfect too! I've been coming to this place for several years now and stopped coming during the pandemic. I recently stopped by and had lunch with my sisters on one of those hella cold winter days. We each bought a chicken pho and I added meatballs to mine and made it a large instead of the regular. After a few minutes the pho was out and we were ready to eat. I couldn't really tell the size difference except for mine being the only one with meatballs. In the photos you can tell they don't look different in size. This was my top favorite spot for Pho in the peninsula because of the richness of the beef broth and the overall flavor of the pho. Service is good. Not much to it but order and get your food and pay. This last visit I was so disappointed with the flavor of the pho. Watery chicken soup. Too many noodles not enough chicken or meatballs. Extra meatballs were $6.50 for 6 meatballs. Each pho was about $16.50 (5 phos , 1 spring roll was about $105 without tip). I've had $17 pho and this is not even comparable to that. I've been a fan from my first visit but over the years the flavor has declined so drastically it's no longer in the rotation of pho I eat anymore. Prices are rising that makes sense with the current times but make it make sense. Continue to deliver quality and price is not an issue. read more

I'm Vietnamese, I've eaten at many Vietnamese restaurants in the South Bay and in Vietnam. I'm going to cut it short, this place is not good. My first warning sign as that a majority of this menu is written in English instead of Vietnamese with English translations. I was surprised to find they sold banh xeo here, and while it is a large crepe, I find it very disappointing in terms of taste of both the crepe itself and the fish sauce. Also, not very often do I find this served with mostly chicken. I find that it is a way to cost cut from using more expensive and tastier meat options. I got their beef pho and while I ate the whole thing, it is very bland, very weak beef flavor, and for some reason they cut the noodles?! Like it makes it so much harder to eat properly. I think my biggest gripe is how much everything costed for what was being served here. 18 dollars each for the crepe and the pho when it's this bland is kind of insulting considering a little further drive to San Mateo or Palo Alto gets you Gao and Pho Ha Noi. Stopped by this place on a weeknight because my girlfriend and I were hungry and didn't want to cook. We were on our way to something in Redwood city and needed something quick. Besides, for a cold night, a bowl of warm pho usually hits the spot! Overall, it's not much to rave about but it's decent pho. The speed of service does help when one is in a rush. We ordered 2 B17s that only come in a large. Well, I've had larger larges. The flavor was alright, nothing really to gripe about. However, both our pho barely had any beef tripe in them when it was labeled with beef tripe. Lastly, there was a very odd smell coming from the soup spoons that are given to you when ordering pho. It was something along the lines of a detergent smell? All in all, for a quick bite, Pho Dong is alright. Since the pandemic, I haven't written a lot of reviews with quarantine in place and all. Now that things have settled down a little in the county, its time to go out and enjoy restaurants again ! Okay, if you use their restroom or just head to the back where the cashier is, you can see a whole wall of accolades, which are rightly awarded! Upon coming in, you're greeted by who I assume is the general manager/owner; and he's super friendly too! He was greeting the street cleaner and struck friendly conversations with not just me, but also the other diners. He's also very accommodating. For the food, if you think the portions are too small then order a large ‍ the small portions are PERFECT. Add the veggies in your soup like you're supposed to, you'll feel full. The broth was rich and light , not oily or greasy or racked with sodium that I felt food coma. It's really good! This is one of the few places that I can acknowledge and say that it's better than someone of the well known LA pho places I used to go to. During the pandemic it's still take out and they have established a table by the front door with a menu you can see. I went with a straight forward option of grilled pork over vermicelli that typically a rest like this should be able to get right. Overall the staff was nice, the food was okay, nothing to write home about and not of the quality and quantity I would expect for the price. Nice atmosphere. Clean and well tended. Our server was patient and very nice. We had spring rolls and I had beef pho and my friend had a pork banh mi. $44.44 for the meal. Not horrible nowadays. But not awesome. Her sandwich was apparently oddly sweet. The roll was more like a Kaiser bun but warm and made her happy. The carrots seemed to be in a mayo preparation. Not just fresh carrots. Didn't see any of the liver spread. So. Not a traditional sandwich. My pho was good. But the broth was a little oily. It was just ok. The meat was nice and very lean. The large seafood pho was on a small portion side especially for $17.95. I can't imagine how small a regular size bowl will be. If you're a big eater, you will still be hungry. I forgot how consistent Pho Dong is with their food (my regular choices) and their friendly service. It's my local Southern pho and Vietnamese sandwich joint. The meat for the chicken pho is juicy which seems to be in the minority with Pho Ga. Beef pho is always satisfying with rich, full bodied broth. I like that they even sell broth to go! Papaya and cabbage salads are fresh, but the dressing is a bit more on the sweet side- not my thing, but I will just ask for dressing on the side and add lime. The spring rolls are loaded with lettuce and ingredients proportional. There is plenty of comfort food on the menu. Pho Dong is definitely the best if not one of the better Vietnamese spots in Redwood City. read more

Get the Wonton Soup, it's so delicious, excellent flavor, and the best wontons I've ever had. We could eat that every day. Another favorite is the grilled pork over vermicelli, large size, lots of flavors in the pork, and tasty dressing. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

One thing I dislike about restaurants is when they don't tell you up front if there's a surcharge for something. Came here with my co-worker and she ordered the steak noodles and asked if she could have the rare steak on the side, of course the waitress said yes but it was until the very end that they charge my coworker a dollar fifty but never told her. The waitress also asked if we wanted water or tea, so we ordered tea, once again there's a surcharge of $2 that we were not told of, and tea isn't listed on the menu as being charged beverage item. The noodles had a weird texture to it as that wasn't cooked thoroughly and the broth wasn't that great with weird fatty pieces floating in it. The egg rolls tasted plain and the service wasn't all that great. We had to flag her down for more hot water, and she didn'task if we needed a to go box for any of our items. I'm a regular. They always have seating available and friendly service. I will say that they go very light on the diced vegetables in the pho, (limited green onion, and cilantro) however the pho is pretty solid. I recommend going earlier in the day - when I go at night time the soup always seems to be less fresh. I came here on a Friday night around 6pm for dinner with a few friends and the restaurant wasn't too busy. This place is near the Caltrain station so there was a lot of parking in the area. They do takeout and also have tables set out outside for dine-in option. There's a decent amount of offerings on the menu, but since I wasn't too hungry I only ordered the spring roll. The spring roll had a decent amount of green, rice noodle, shrimp and pork in it and went really well with the peanut sauce they provided. My friends ordered a fried noodle dish and a tofu and eggplant dish which I also got to try. The tofu and eggplant dish was enjoyable and my friend thought the fried noodle dish was a little on the blender side (also needed more sauce towards the end to soften the noodles). Overall the food was pretty good and fairly standard. The waitress was nice and came by to fill our water and was pretty attentive. Overall I had a pretty good experience and would come back again to try out more of their dishes next time! read more

Use the fork, after ya enjoy the juices with the spoon to bring the fill level down a bit. Just stick the fork in there, twirl it round.. it's gonna capture some meat and a bit of pepper, if you've added it into the mix. So friggin tasty. Yup, I'll be back. I tried this place for the first time because May's Vietnamese was closed today. I never post negative reviews because I feel it's unnecessary but I had to after this experience. Ordered for pick up just to get home and see that they forgot an item. My husband drove all the way back to pick up the missing item and you would think they would have refunded us for the inconvenience of having to go back, but no. I ordered 2 chicken phos which were 16.50 each! Way too overpriced for the actual quality/ quantity. I ordered imperial rolls and got 3 freaking rolls for $10.95 what a freaking rip off! I will never go back. I recommend May's Vietnamese on Broadway and Jefferson. Better quality, more quantity and better prices. Updating my review; they actually did give me a refund for the wings. They didn't say anything in that moment but today I checked my bank account and saw the refund. I appreciate that but this place is still overpriced for what it's really worth. read more
