Pho Tai Chin Bo Vien Pho with rare steak, brisket, and beef ball 13. Tai Chin Noodle Soup
Marcus F.

I want to say they definitely upgraded the flavor of their broth from when I had originally tried it several years ago. I'm glad I gave them a second chance and realize now I almost missed out on some great pho. The broth was super flavorful. Broth Grade: A I ordered the XL size bowl of pho because I felt a bit under the weather and I was really hungry. There was plenty of noodles. I did wish I had more basil for the size of bowl I had. The meats were standard. Grade: B Service was pretty good. I came during a lunch rush. I was lucky in that I got the last table. Many people were grabbing takeout orders due to the time. I expected a lot and I received what I asked for of the staff. Service Grade: A Thai Iced Tea was ok. It was neither horrible nor great. Grade: B Spring Rolls were decent. The rice paper had a good chew. Grade: B+ Extra Info: The place itself is located on the corner of Old County and Holly across from 7-Eleven. The noise level was fine while I was there. Big groups of over 4 might be challenging so I would call. Decor could be updated. I gave this 4 stars, but for the Peninsula, this may be the best broth I've had in the area! It really deserves a 4.5 for the area, but ratings are in whole numbers. Feel free to message me other places in the San Mateo County I should try.

Nice little family run Vietnamese restaurant. Family lunch. They were able to sit all 13 of us on a long table. Service was fast. Nice menu, generous portions of noodles. Parking can be limited. Enter from Holly street

Our kids love this place and we enjoy it too; it's one of those regular spots for a quick, delicious meal, especially if it's chilly out. My son gets the chicken pho, my wife and daughter each get a bowl of beef pho, and I'll switch between pho and vermicelli depending on how I'm feeling. We usually also all share an order of spring rolls. It's all tasty and the service is super friendly too. It's fun to watch whatever Vietnamese cooking videos is playing on the TV during a meal. We didn't come much until having a bad bowl of pho at another restaurant (SC Noodle House) and were looking for a nearby option to get that experience out of our heads. Since then this has been in our regular family meal rotation. Note that the parking lot can be a little tight but usually there are spots.

Staff was super attentive, food came out quick and everything was delicious. Wasn't busy when we were there on a Tues evening, but they did lots of to-go orders. Def order the Thai iced tea. Will be back!

The pho here is sooo freaking good. The broth is rich and flavorful. Noodles are chewy. Meat is tender, I love their brisket and meatballs. The thai tea is also strong and so good with the pho. The fish tank is so iconic and there's a decent amount of seating. Service is amazing. I love the couple that owns it, they're always attentive and nice. Food also comes out within like a minute of ordering. Overall highly reccomend!!

Decent, friendly, prompt service which is nice and the ambiance is homey but could benefit from a deep cleaning Food is generally good. However, for the price it's at, the food drops to mid tier. 3 "regular" bowls of their watery pho + 1 chow mein was $77.60 before tax and tip. The water seems to be unfiltered tap water and is lukewarm. The water kinda smells like fridge water if you know what I mean. Asked to share and this is the spoon I was given and had to ask for a new one. Cleanliness needs a bit of work here.

Solid solid pho. I think I found my go-to on the peninsula. Their chicken veggie dish is also delicious.

I had such an awful experience here. I ordered the chicken…read morepho, and I was surprised when they told me they don't serve bean sprouts, lemon, basil, or mint.. the traditional toppings that normally come with pho. That really threw me off, especially because I saw a Yelp review before coming that showed bean sprouts with the pho. Secondly, they served my pho with thick, flat noodles instead of the traditional rice noodles you normally expect. I politely asked the waitress if those were the only noodles they offered, and she told me they also have the traditional pho noodles.. you just have to request them. I've honestly never had to ask for regular pho noodles anywhere else, so that was really strange to me. The broth was also very watered down and lacked flavor. The chicken was dark and honestly didn't even look like chicken, which made me not want to eat it. I took two bites of my bowl and ended up leaving very disappointed. I also want to mention that parking was a hassle. There's very limited street parking, which made the experience even more frustrating. I understand that every pho restaurant has its own recipe, and I'm very open-minded when it comes to trying different places. I'm not a picky eater at all, but this experience was just way off from what I'd expect when ordering pho. I'm honestly not sure how this place has so many positive reviews based on the experience I had. The one positive thing I can say is that the customer service was good. The staff was kind and attentive throughout my visit. Unfortunately, the food itself was a 0/10 for me, and I wouldn't come back.

They close at 830pm and we arrived by 745pm, which I know was cutting it close but we were determined to eat very quickly. The place felt cozy, though at some point a bit too hot. Someone came to take our order as soon as we arrived. The lady that took our ordered seemed upset and annoyed. We got the vegetarian pho which was very good the broth had a pleasant taste to it. There was plenty of broth and noodles. We also got the spring rolls which were just okay. They were hard, which makes me think they might have been old. The peanut sauce was not very good from the color to the taste. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is mainly because of the service. It was around 815pm and they were already shutting down everything. One of the ladies in there even had her purse on her arm. They came to bring the check before we were done eating. We rushed to finish our food because at some point I couldn't see anyone anymore and I genuinely thought they had left. From the moment we walked in to the moment we paid and left no one returned a smile to us. They seemed annoyed that we were there . We left the place at 820ish. As soon as we left they locked up. I understand we were some of their last customers but we did not cause them to stay there past their closing time. I did not feel welcome. I don't think I will be coming back.

So, my expectations were low since I had no experience with them although the reviews looked good! Also, and "against" my better judgement, I was going to order their soup to go (which doesn't always work well). However, I was sick and didn't want to leave the house. WOW! What a WONDERFUL SURPRISE! I only ordered their #1 popular item, the Spicy Rice Noodle Beef Soup with veggies. 1) Order was delivered within 15-20 minutes! 2) Everything was fresh & still hot 3) All items were separately bagged and/or combined where it made sense. 4) The beef was tender and delicious (NOT salty either) 5) Even though I mixed it, the entire meal was excellent! I do soup like this a lot in the area, and mostly dining-in, so to experience this kind of quality for take-out was exceptional! I am really looking forward to dining there, in person, and trying other items from, what appears to be, a pretty varied menu!

This place makes me want to visit San Mateo just to eat here!…read more I am currently on a very difficult journey to try everything on the menu, but the problem is I keep wanting to reorder the same staples, especially their famous Cubanos. Everything I've tried has been delicious, and the sauces are seriously amazing. You can tell they're actually fresh. This spot is flavorful, memorable, and absolutely worth going out of your way for.
