I came with my friend because we had a craving for Thai food. The service was good, the server was welcoming. The place is not too big but is decorated in a charming way. We ordered three dishes which was the Chicken Satay, Sweet Sol, Chicken Pad Thai, , and Coconut rice. The Chicken Satay was a bit dry but with the sauce it was still pretty good. The Sweet Sol was fried well and the inside was tender without bones. The last dish we had was the Chicken Pad Thai which is one of my favorites in Thai cuisine. It had the right amount of seasoning and the noodles were just right. The coconut rice was a good accompaniment to the dishes. It is quaint and homey and the dishes coming out of the kitchen are cooked to order, with telltale signs like fresh herbs, tender crisp veggies and proteins that are delectable and taste marinated and cooked quickly at high heat not stewed or slow cooked. My pumpkin chicken red curry had a perfect kick of thai chilis, with milder ingredients like basil, green beans and bell peppers. Chicken and pumpkin portions. were generous. Rice was slightly more sticky and glutinous than I prefer, giving an indication of being prepped and cooked in advance and in bulk- It perfectly complimented the curry adding some appetizing texture and viscosity to the dish. The Prig King Beef that I took to go was amazing reheated the next day. The string beans and beef were the stars, accented by kaffir lime, basil and chili paste. Of course, being me, I have to shout out the service, best illustrated by the way the singular service person hustled amongst the tables despite wearing an orthopedic boot that ought to have slowed him down. He kept my glass full of perfectly brewed lack iced tea. The addition of fresh lime and a tiny sprig of fresh clipped mint spoke to the level of detail that this restaurant goes to enhance customer experience. It's the little details and this tiny eatery does great take out, but the dine in experience is definitely on a five star level and a reasonably priced one, at that. read more

Tom yum is my favorite thing to order at all Thai restaurants. This iteration is great, I'm a big fan of the large chunks of onion since it's a bit more of a unique take but I liked how the flavor profile worked out. My go to item would be ordering the pad thai with beef. Since I been back they have updated the menus once with the lunch specials at $15 now. This is my first time eating here since the updated menu. The pad Thai today was a bit watery and ketchupy for me. I requested a 9 spicy and got a 6 spicy with a 10 sweet.I also ordered a coke with the price coming out to 22.47. Double wammy in my book. We also had an appointment for our son on a Friday evening, so it really limited our options of where to go that was kind of convenient. It was ready in the promised timeframe and I peaked and saw all their orders they had cooked. Pad see yew with chicken ($14.50) seems like the going price around the area. It was piping hot and a good portion. Some places will use Chinese broccoli, and some will use American broccoli, I can go either way with my preference but here they use the latter. Overall it was a decent option, but was missing that wok hei taste, and perhaps could've used a little more seasoning. My husband always orders their Thai fried rice with chicken ($14.50), which he said is always pretty standard. We had the roti with green curry (5/5) as an appeteizer and the lunch portions of yellow curry with chicken (5/5) and chicken chow mein (3/5). I thought the Roti and Yellow Curry with chicken were delicious. My friend thought his chicken chow mein was bland and created for middle america. I've been to Thailand and have a pretty high standard for Thai food. We don't have many great options for Thai food in the Peninsula but Charm Thai Eatery may be the best of the local choices. Always really like this place. Their food is amazing. Unfortunately, they've been putting so much water in their Thai curry that I can't really eat it anymore (most recently ordered it Friday and it tasted like nothing and I threw it away). I've never eaten there in person, but I probably DoorDash from them 30 times. It's just a bit too water down and the last meal kind of made me icked out. Honestly commenting this so maybe that they realize that they shouldn't be doing this to their food. They are Pad Thai also fantastic. Happy they're also making new locations. They have great food. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. We ordered a beef pad sew, crab fried rice, chicken red curry, and crispy fish with sweet garlic sauce. The beef was very dry and the noodles were overcooked/broken. The crab fried rice was mushy. The chicken red curry had the right flavor, but it was watery. Loved everything I ordered and the Crispy Garlic Fish; really addicting! Lovely soft, white, juicy fish inside and sweet, burnt, crispy garlic breading on that outside. Loved it! The sweet sauce pairs well with fish and garlic. The Crab Fried Rice is filled with lovely little chunks of crab and cooked perfectly, presented with gorgeously sliced cucumbers. I really found my fav here folks. I really love this rice! The Pad Se-Ew I customized with prawns and loved it. Another fantastic entree. Charm Thai is a neighborhood Thai restaurant located in a small building right off El Camino Real in San Mateo. The cooking here was casual and rustic, and we started with the Papaya Salad, a sweet, salty, sour mixture of shredded papaya, carrots, green beans, and tomatoes, all topped with crushed peanuts and served with lettuce leaves. The Spicy Pork Salad (Yum Moo Yang) was made of grilled marinated pork shoulder mixed in a salty, sour, spicy chile-lime dressing, along with plenty of aromatics including kaffir lime leaves, red onions, and mint. For our mains, the Pad Ped Seafood was a stir-fried mixture of fish balls, prawns, calamari, mussels, fried sole fillets, onions, bell peppers, and green beans, all in a sticky, savory sauce; and the Crab Pad Thai were stir-fried rice noodles with (just a touch of) crab meat, eggs, and green onions, served with crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, carrots, and lime. The only disappointing dish was the Crispy Fish with Sweet Garlic, a house special dish of breaded, deep-fried sole fillets sautéed with a sweet garlic sauce. The breading on the sole was too thick and heavy, and the sweet garlic sauce barely added any flavor and simply made the breading lose its crispy texture. My go to Thai spot in the bay! I've been recently watching White Lotus every Sunday and since it takes place in Thailand, it has become a weekly tradition to order Thai food on Sunday nights. The red curry is amazing and so is the Pat Thai. I always get it on level five spicy and it's so hot and delicious. I'm obsessed. It's a cute small spot located in downtown. I tried charm Thai during the pandemic and it has easily become a staple in our rotation. This review is for their take out food and service, not even sure if the sit down is open anymore. The food is tasty, warm and fresh. They usually take 15-20 mins to get the food ready and pick up is smooth. I like their pad see ew. I'm not a spicy girl so I usually get a 1/5 spice level.
