Wanted to take my fiance out to dinner and found Pho Tam on Yelp. Good reviews and close by...why not? Easy to locate and parking was sufficient. We walked in and met the funniest lady working. Not sure if she's the owner or what, but she made the experience good from the get-go. We ordered egg rolls and the Specialty Pho, and they hit the spot. Good portion of meat, noodles, and broth. The broth was savory and clean. Meat was good quality. Egg rolls hot and crunchy with a spectacular sauce. Overall, the meal with delicious and filling. The interior was nice. Not elevated like some fancy place, but more homey and welcoming. It was clean and set a chill tone. Again, I have to comment on how friendly and fun the host/owner was. She truly did make the experience so fun. I'll definitely be coming back based on how sweet she was. The excellence of the food is a bonus on top. read more

Worst customer service experience I've ever had. This was my first and last visit. I clearly explained that I do not eat pork, but my order still contained ingredients I did not request. When I politely asked for it to be corrected, the employee became rude, yelled at me, and told me to leave. My two-year-old daughter started crying because of the yelling. Other customers witnessed the incident. I left feeling embarrassed and disappointed. Customers with dietary restrictions deserve respect and understanding. Went in to eat with my fiancé, but unfortunately another customer ruined my experience with her complaints about food containing pork when asked for only beef (Her bowl didn't contain any pork which was stated many times) She pulls her phone out to record 'cue the dramatics' and pulls the "my daughter" card lolll my gosh her daughter didn't cry once in the store so her review is completely misrepresented considering we HAD to witness this entire interaction go down. Her worries about the so called pork, was actually BEEF tripe. I decided to speak up and let her know, but I don't think anything could've gotten through her thick, manipulative skull so I should've just stayed quiet! However, the employee didn't deserve that. The front desk forgot my banh mi last night from Uber Eats, so I called them to verify what happened and what they could do. The lady on the phone told me to just pick it up, but her voice was so loud even though it was their mistake. That's the reason I use Uber Eats, I don't want to order and pay again for someone else's error. I told her I would pick it up when I'm free. I asked for her name, I think she said Dianne, and of course I gave my name too. When I got the food, I asked if I could get a second banh mi since it was their mistake and she made me feel humiliated with the way she talked to me. She should have been calmer, especially because it was her mistake. If I asked her, "Can I just get two since you were wrong?" she didn't need to respond in such a high-pitched tone. I couldn't handle how she talked to me, so I took a video to remember how it made me feel. I really like their food and I love Vietnamese food, but this experience was humiliating. Okay. This place is off the beaten path. About a mile off the 8 but keep going it is so worth it. It is a hole in the wall. It doesn't look like much from the outsider and most people would pass it by. That would be a mistake. The food is superb. The place is clean and the service is just right. This place is a bit hidden, but honestly so good! Out of all the local pho spots in El Cajon, this one has become our favorite. I ordered the mixed seafood pho and my husband got the special combo pho, we were both super happy with our bowls. We also tried the spring rolls and everything was fresh and delicious. Our waiter was extremely kind and welcoming. The restaurant is clean, cozy, and our food came out quickly. To finish off the night, we ordered Thai milk tea and it was the perfect cherry on top. Summary: The food here is not only flavorful, but very affordable! We ordered 3 large phos, one combination crepe, and the fried tofu appetizer. Service: We were greeted by Diane when we came in. She quickly asked us if we wanted to start with any appetizers. When we let her know that it was our first time visiting, she kindly let us know that she would give us some more time to look over the menu. While we looked over the menu, she brought us over a carrier of sauces: hoisin sauce, sriracha, and soy sauce. I noticed right away that the sauces all looked brand new and completely clean. Usually when I go out to eat, the sriracha and hoisin sauce bottles have crusty spots on them where the sauce comes out. Food: we ordered the rare filet mignon and brisket pho. It was so flavorful that I did not even need to add hoisin and sriracha. They also brought an extra large plate of veggies for our pho. We never had to ask for extra because the portions given were so generous. We also ordered the combination crepe, which had shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts stuffed inside. This was also great! It was my first time trying it but the outside was crispy and flavorful, and the filling had a good amount of meat and veggies. The fried tofu itself was flavorful, but I was disappointed that the onions and jalapeños cooked with the tofu were still raw. Because of that, I couldn't eat the onions- it would've been too harsh of a flavor. Ambiance: it is very quiet here, and they play instrumental music from recent pop songs. I initially came in wanting the bun thit nuong but she insisted on the pho, which I am very glad that I ordered it! Like a 3.5+ Pretty standard Vietnamese food! Definitely want to come and try a rice plate. I got the combo pho without tendon but extra meatball. The broth was a teeny bit sweet but I fixed it with adding their SPICY chili oil. They have two kinds; a red lighter in color and the dark one. The lighter one is like a sweet chili. Anyway I enjoyed it after drowning my soup in hot sauce & jalapeños. My mom got the shaking beef and loved how tender the meat was. My dad got the teriyaki plate and if you're hungry, I'd recommend getting something other than those because the portions aren't as huge. They have indoor & outdoor seating. The outside was definitely beautiful especially with all their plants but I did get a ton of bug bites so if you decide on dining out make sure you use some bug spray lol read more
