On our drive up to Sacramento, we didn't miss an opportunity to eat at Pho Vallejo! When we arrived the place was packed, but we were able to snag a table right away. There's one thing that I come for (because I can't find it anywhere else) and it's their fried shrimp cake. If there's one thing I recommend ordering when you come here it's that! For my main I got the vermicelli bowl with bbq beef and egg roll. My girlfriend got their pho. Both were really good and the portion sizes and value is totally there. They don't skimp on the meats and don't trip if you ask for extra fish sauce. I think I learned that I don't like vermicelli bowls as much as I do rice plates and pho. While it's done well, I'd opt for the rice plates or pho instead. The service here is still top notch. The food comes out ridiculously quick and is what I would call a true hidden gem in Vallejo. I order the flank and brisket pho, it was maybe 6.5 or 7 out of 10. I'm used to a more flavorful pho and this was alright. The plum drink 9/10. It's my favorite pairing anytime I order pho. When craving pho that's opened on a Tuesday I go here or pho #1. I believe both are under the same ownership from what I was told. It is clean and easy to park in the area. Beware of terrible drivers here.. they speed through the parking lot. For the pho and rice plates I always love it. Portions are generous, and always consistent. For the bun Bo hue, it was my first time trying it here. The server said the exact thing as the server at Pho #1, "the bun Bo hue is not made traditionally." I asked what made this different, and they responded that they didn't have the right noodles for it, and there isn't any blood cubes. You know what though, it was not bad. Number 3 they stopped serving the small sized Pho forcing you to order larger size and paying more. Number 4 the thai tea is smaller and the price is more. I ordered a small chicken noodle soup. A crispy fried shrimp rolls and a beef pho. First the chicken in the chicken soup was like rubber. Very much like overcooked abalone. The menu is filled with many Vietnamese standards, but since our family loves pho, we ordered four Pho Special #1. I guess what makes it special is added beef balls. Located in a Gateway Plaza, this is a great central location to have a great shopping day paired with a delicious meal. There is a ton of parking, Target, Costco, and Ulta near by. I could really spend all day around here. We stopped by on Sunday around 3 pm. This restaurant is pretty large as it has a whole separate dining area, has a covered outdoor patio vibe but it's indoors. We ordered spring rolls, a large flank & meatball pho, and bbq chicken plate with shrimp cakes. Everything was so flavorful! Takeaway highlights: shrimp cakes are unique and must try! Pho is damn near perfect and a large for $14, can't beat the price. Peanut sauce was a tad too sweet. Service was super sweet and very fast. Ordered my usual- seafood soup, grilled beef with shrimp cake and egg; I think this is #59. And also v2- lemongrass with tofu, right amount of spicyness or there's more chili oil in the table if you wanted more spicyness in life! The broth was so flavorful I didn't even add any sauces to it, and even forgot about adding lemon until halfway through when I went to add more beansprouts. They're very attentive. The table next to me got good service too. I was surprised how large the "small" bowl of pho was. I ordered the Dac biet (#2). I think my pho had more than one piece of each type of meat this time. A little unusual the pho was served in a large stainless steel bowl. The Thai ice tea was a bit sweet for my taste but still enjoyable. Very glad I stopped by to try them again in person vs what I got from delivery. The food is decent, but the prices they charge for Vietnamese food are much higher compared to their neighbors. Mind you, there are plenty of other pho spots in the area. We got spring rolls, fried egg rolls, chicken wings (all apps) and a rice plate that had grilled chicken, egg, and shrimp cake. All the food came out right away, one right after the other. I like to eat everything together, so I appreciate when the main entree and apps are served at once. I like how tightly they roll their spring rolls, and the peanut sauce that came with it was nice and peanutty. Not overly sweet. The spring roll has pork and shrimp though, so just FYI because I thought it was shrimp only. I don't care for the pork they roll into this as it's pretty dry. The eggrolls are kinda thin compared to other spots, but they are tasty and fried well. My daughter tore these up so can't complain too much but 4 eggrolls for $9 is steep. We are a chicken wing family so if it's on the menu, we're gonna order it. I loooooove Asian fried chicken. The batter tends to be on the lighter crispier side and this was no exception. You get 5 WHOLE wings! I've seen the recent price increases over the years, but this place charges $15.50 for an order now!!!! Kind of ridiculous. Most other places only charge about $10-12 for an order, so once again, super steep pricing here. Our rice plate was good but our grilled chicken was served in one piece instead of diced. I feel like the marinade and char gets all over the chicken better when it's diced, so the flavor wasn't even throughout. It was a tad bit salty in some bites too. I appreciate the big slices of cucumber and the shredded lettuce salad on the side though. So good with the nuoc mam (sweet fish sauce). Rice plates are served with a side of chicken broth. You can really taste the MSG and I love it! It's a nice side to wash everything else down. Located in one of the "better" parts of Vallejo, so I guess they reserve the right to charge a premium. There's a ton of parking around since it's in the Target plaza, and I do appreciate their covered outdoor seating. You can only enter through the restaurant, so no randoms will bother you if you're outside. They took the time to decorate the outdoor area too, so it's a vibe if you don't want to sit inside. I'll be honest, this is not one of my fav Viet spots, but I do think it's a decent one especially if you're newer to the cuisine. Don't sleep on their chili oil, they have some on each table.
