It's our first week in Anchorage and I was craving Pho. This place had one of the highest ratings and so we came. I ordered an order of egg rolls, Pho Tai (beef noodle soup) and the lemongrass chicken. Let me start with the egg rolls. They were hot, fresh, and tasty, but I do prefer a more traditional roll with more pork, carrot, and vermicelli. They were served with a side of sweet chili glaze, which is always good, but when I eat Vietnamese I am quite fond of the Nuoc Cham fish sauce for dipping as it is a little acidic, a little sweet, a little spicy, and strong garlic notes. That was my only disappointment with the egg rolls. Next, the Pho Tai. I'm from Texas and Pho is super cheap, so imagine my surprise when it was a $12 bowl of Pho. But it was worth every penny. The broth was very flavorful and rich. The meat was a good portion size, as was the noodles. The sprouts, cilantro, and basil were fresh. Only thing lacking were a few jalapeño slices. It was delicious. I ordered my daughter some Lemongrass chicken, as this is her favorite. I didn't care for it, as it tasted like the chicken was tossed in some Thai tom yum soup seasoning and stir fried with some bell peppers. Usually this item is made with chicken thigh and grilled and you get a little charbroiled flavor with the sweet tartness from the lemongrass, but not too Much. It was over spiced and over salted. I had a wonderful experience and looking forward to exploring a few More items on the menu. read more

As a self proclaimed pho junkie, I've tried about every pho joint in Anchorage. Pho Vietnam 8 is by far the best even compared to the other Pho Vietnam places l. They're flexible enough to take changes in stride (ie no cilantro...aka the devil's weed...and extra basil). I usually stick to beef pho as opposed to chicken, but everything I've had here has been good. The staff is great. If my time in Anchorage wasn't over they'd be yelling, "Norm!!!" when I walked into the place. I'm there that much. read more

Tried this place for lunch today, a Vietnamese and Thai restaurant. I went with my favorite, Pad Thai with shrimp, medium spicy. Really loved it, huge shrimp and lots of noodles with not too many veggies. One of my co-workers had the pho with beef. The bowl was huge. He loved it but couldn't finish it all. We also had a crab wonton appetizer which was delicious. Filled with real crab meat, not imitation. Would go here again. read more

If you want authentic Vietnamese Phò don't expect It form this place. I figured with the Name of the place I would experience at lease hints of Cinnamon, star anise and ginger. Didn't even get jalapeños with the herb plate to garnish. For some this might be the broth for you, to me it seemed more of a Lao flavored broth, strong on the beef broth side. Nothing wrong with A Lao version of this dish, just not what I anticipated on eating. read more

We really enjoyed this little pho place. I ordered the Vietnamese crepe (bahn xeo). It came with a lot of fresh lettuce, cilantro and Thai basil. I was eating it when the waitress brought a second one and said there are 2 in an order. It was enough for 2 whole meals. It was delicious. My husband had pho and the broth was super good. He only ate 1/2 because he ate some of my bahn xeo. read more

I just noticed this place on Fireweed on my way to the movies and decided to stop for dinner. I have to say it was a great decision. The restaurant is clean, the service is prompt, and food is delicious! My friend ordered the standard pho with the raw meat and it's the first time I have seen him finish a plate of pho! The quantity was perfect and the flavor was just simply delicious ( I tried it). I was in the mood for something different so I ordered the stir fry egg noodles with chicken, shrimp, and beef. Wow! Pho Vietnam 8. To start off I am going to say what they are most popular is the pho, and the pho I have not had. That being said I have heard a lot about how good this place is so I decided to give it a shot! On my quest to find the best Thai food in town I decided to get a dish of all my favorites to go and feast like a king! Only to get home and find that I should have just ordered from a tried and true source... All of the food was edible, but none of it was very good. They all seem to lack spice and even some lacking on paid for ingredients. Worst Penang in the state, and others again edible but not worth paying for. I am still curious about the pho but will definitely not return for the Thai food. read more

Ordered from GrubHub. Driver was fine, food was terrible. Ordered the chicken curry. Order took over an hour and a half, driver said their kitchen was behind. Chicken had horrible freezer burn taste but that's ok because there was very little of anything in the curry. The curry was pure liquid with no taste. Worst meal I've had in awhile. Yuck. read more

I usually come here for the Thai food, and not the Pho. I've never actually tried the Pho, I'm not much of a soup fan in general. Anyway, the food here is great. The restaurant is clean and was remodeled within the last year or so. I think this is one of Pho Vietnam's newest locations. The chef here is really good and the food is better than the other Pho Vietnam locations I've tried. The staff is always friendly and make you feel welcome. Every time I've been here it's never been crowded, which is also one of the reasons I like this location. The service is prompt, the food hot and fresh, and the restaurant is clean. What more can you ask for? It's close to my work, so I'll definitely keep this on my list of places to go for lunch. read more

Great local place! Servers were so friendly and accommodating. Called ahead as we had a big group coming and they told us it was fine to come on in. The pho and thai tea that I had really hit the spot. Didn't get a chance to try any appetizers but they had a good variety on the menu. We even got banh mi to go (to eat on the go the next day) and they were also great! Lots of meat, no complaints there. I wish the bread was a little bit better quality but that's probably due to us eating it the next day. read more

The quality of the food here depends on who happens to be working at the time. Unfortunately today, the food was not great. The oxtail was tough on our oxtail pho, and the shrimp fried rice was blander than usual. But what really brought me down was that when we got our bill, we realized they charged us more per item than what it said on the menu. The shrimp pad Thai was supposedly $12, but we were charged $15. The oxtail pho is supposed to be $12 and we were charged $13. I didn't even bother looking at the other items as that was upsetting enough. Hopefully others will have a better experience here than we did today, but for us, this will be the last time we eat here. read more
