I walked up to find a couple of people working there who I take to be ownership. Notably, the reason I hadn't visited before is that I often travel on Sunday and they're closed on Sunday. You can run a business however you want I guess, but Sunday does seem like a time where a lot of people would want to be able to purchase some ice cream. In substance, the gelato selection was very good. They had a few non-dairy options. I picked several flavors that were wildly different, but was recommended to try something more consonant, which I suspect reflects a difference in thought processes between the more masculine high-decoupling mind and a contrasting holistic approach. Having said that, I went with the recommendation for what tasted like a very ripe banana flavor, as well as a tiramisu cream that definitely tasted like high quality tiramisu, and a pure hazelnut flavor. It was a high quality smooth dessert, and in relative terms, the price was less than what you'd pay at a high-end place in a big city. And while I can't say I've been to Italy, this gelato was as good as you'd get in any of the American places I've been to, so it's a great stop here in Charleston.

The best gelato I've ever had! You can tell the ingredients are fresh and authentic. I was able to…read moretest out some flavors of gelato before ordering. Great service and ample seating inside.

As soon as we walked…read morethrough the door, we were greeted with a warm smile from an older gentleman who made us feel instantly welcome. The cashier was also very patient, answering all of our questions about the milk teas, toppings, and yogurt drinks. After scanning the menu one more time, we ordered three drinks: * Mango Milk Tea with boba pearls (50% sugar) * Brown Sugar Milk Tea with boba pearls (75% sugar) * Taro Milk Tea with boba pearls instead of coconut jelly/nata de coco (25% sugar) My daughter loved her mango drink -- perfectly sweetened to her taste and full of real mango chunks. My sons enjoyed the brown sugar milk tea, which reminded them of taho (a Filipino comfort food made of soft tofu, brown sugar syrup, and pearls) because of the syrup that coated the cup. I had the taro milk tea at 25% sugar, and let me just say... it was slurpy-licious! Next time, I'm definitely going to try a drink with ube (purple yam) and of course the Halo-Halo -- the ultimate Filipino shaved ice dessert layered with sweet ingredients which needs to be "mix mix" (halo-halo) before enjoying. Who would have thought red beans can be in a dessert?!?! It's a must try for sure! We'll definitely be back to Shake Your Boba -- simply decorated yet very clean. What makes it even more special is that it's Filipino-owned. Remember the older gentleman who greeted us? He turned out to be the father/father-in-law of the owners. Such a genuinely kind man -- we had a nice chat with him while waiting for our drinks.

(My favorite is the galaxy tea and the Ube creme brûlée bubble waffle). Everything we tried was soft, fresh, and flavorful without being overly sweet, which I really appreciated. You can tell this is the kind of place that's been doing things the same (and doing them well) for a long time. The prices were also surprisingly great, and had they been listed, I would have purchased a lot more. It's a small, old-school bakery that's clearly been a local favorite for generations, and that charm is part of what makes it special. That said, as first-time visitors, it was a little tough to navigate. Nothing is labeled, no menu, no prices, so we had to ask a few questions and rely on recommendations. Maybe it was just a busy Saturday morning, but the young woman helping us didn't seem thrilled that I was taking photos and asking about the pastries. I get that most of their customers are probably regulars who already know what they want, but for those of us just passing through, a little guidance (and patience) would go a long way. Even with that experience, I'd still recommend stopping by. The pastries really are that good, the prices are fair, and it's the kind of nostalgic, old fashioned bakery that's getting harder to find these days.
