Came in for a convention of over 900 people. Second stay at hotel and recommended it to many of my colleagues so there was a number of us staying in the hotel. I knew the rooms were small and walls are thin but I liked it enough to stay again. Bell staff and housekeeping staff were very nice. This time was a different experience. Had a broken heater, key card never worked more than a couple hours (regardless of going through screening machines or keeping the key in the safety jacket), we had a horrible mix up between charging my company card vs. personal bank card for final bill. Desk staff did a remarkable job of getting it straightened out but prior to it happening I had decided this hotel will not be for me or my colleagues the next time we are in town. Why not one star? Location and maybe you will have better luck? read more

This was such a fun hotel. Upon entry, you are taken aback. It seems old. The tapestry and carpets are worn in, and the elevator takes forever. But, once you get to your room, it seem so regal. At least, that was my experience. I got a top level, corner room. A tall bed, puffy bed. The ceilings are taller there. The service is always on time. Stayed here for a wedding. Staff was Ok. Most of the Front desk was nice, and the concierge (sp) was very pleasant also. Housekeeping was rude as hell when we asked them for anything. The bathroom had black hairs all over the shelf and in the shower (since we lived within 40 min drive, we opted out of showering till we got home) SO GROSS. Checking out was a very unpleasant experience with the front desk, we were told one thing checking in, then another checking out regarding our bill. We sorted it out, but someone in the "hospitality" industry should know how to be nice to their customers and this guy WAS NOT. Rooms were small - but it wasnt a big hotel to begin with, so no harm there. The Flat screen had a line down the middle that interfered with the view quality, but we only watched television for a couple hours in our down time. THE GOOD PART: The Dubliner bar was fun and their staff was cool. Food was good, just a little pricey, but thats DC for ya. They were the only reason I didn't give this place one star. The location is within walking distance of Union Station too, which was nice. Bottom Line: Wouldnt stay here again unless I was stranded... and/or it was free. read more

Would not recommend. Rooms are very small and have no sound privacy. We checked in on a Thursday. Got to our room and heard every noise from the alley, room next door, and hallway. When we addressed with the hotel they refused to assist or refund. I wish the hotel had better management because it has awesome character and could be a wonderful place to stay. We left the hotel when it became apparent that management didn't care about our satisfaction. We should have listened to the other reviews where people complain about the same thing. Stay away. Very unimpressed. The King room is small, the vents are loud, and you have to pay $55 to have your car parked per day!! Do not do valet parking. You can park your car at Union Station for cheaper or park it at a different garage. $110 for parking for 2 days is robbery. The lobby smells like fish, and you constantly hear sirens outside and doors slamming. Also, there's no view, except for a building of offices directly across that get a clear view of your room if you open the blinds. It has a classic and old styled theme that I found interesting but the only real positives about this hotel are the location and the bed was comfy. read more

I stayed here for 2 nights recently and LOVED it! It was substantially cheaper than anything else in the vicinity (maybe because I booked far in advance but it seems cheaper overall), great location, etc. I feel like they did a good job giving the rooms a B&B feel without the usual creepiness (like you've broken into someone's house and you're sleeping in their bed) I feel when staying in an actual B&B. The wallpaper in the room was HIDEOUS, though, but I rather liked the rest of the decor and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Everything worked just as it should, and the only problems I had were minor (ex. batteries died in the tv remote) and fixed with what was, to me, astonishing speed. The staff was AMAZING. Everyone, from the front desk to the housekeeping to the restaurant staff, were incredibly sweet and polite and helpful, I was really struck by that. Oh and the food at the Dubliner (and therefore, the room service) is excellent. Really really good. I don't usually stay in hotels in DC; I'm from there, so when I come back into town I usually stay with friends but I will absolutely stay here again if I ever need a hotel in the city. read more

The location of Phoenix Park is great if you have business in the Capitol Hill area. It is also so convenient to Union Station that you can easily get anywhere else in the DC area you want for business or sight seeing. The hotel itself is in an older building, as are many in DC. It is quant and well done. The rooms a little small, but well appointed and the beds are big and comfortable. The first night I was there (a Monday) some horribly rude people in the room next to me came back obviously drunk and very loud at 1am, waking me up from a deep sleep (with a sound machine on) and proceed to yell and laugh in their room for 30 minutes. The front desk was responsive to my calls to ask them to quiet, and the next day they moved me to a new room since these rude folks would be there another night and I did not want to be risk losing sleep again. I truly appreciate their responsiveness. I will likely be in DC again for work and will likely stay here again. read more

Free wifi is always nice and the front desk will provide you with a cable to plug in if you don't get a good signal. Plush towels & bathrobes were a nice touch. Phoenix Park is a cute boutique hotel with rooms named after well-known Washingtonians. With our party of five, we got an upgrade to a suite, the Kerry Suite to be exact. Our room was two levels, both pretty tiny. Throw in a spiral staircase, and an extra cot and you've got a room that was a little difficult to walk around in. Still, overall ambiance was decent and the hotel was easy to get to by bus. Hotel also has an attached entrance to Dubliner's next door. read more

I was very pleased with my stay at the Phoenix Park Hotel. Every year after the March for Life, a throng of marchers make their way down the hill from the Supreme Court to the Dubliner and the Irish Times. In years past I have often wondered why don't I just get a room at the adjoining Phoenix Park Hotel instead of hurrying to catch the last metro of the evening (while the party is still rocking). I had checked the rates in the past, but at $200+ they always seemed a bit more than I wanted to spend. As the March fell on a Friday this year, it seemed the rates were lower than they had always been in years past. At $126 for Friday, and only $84 for the following night, I saw it as providential, and decided to make a weekend of it. From the night I made the reservation, until the afternoon I checked out, I found the entire staff to be very professional in all regards except one, which I will get to shortly. When I arrived early Friday morning (several hours before check-in), I enquired as to whether or not I could make use of the hotel's valet service before check in. I definitely didn't want my car sitting out on the DC streets all day, subject to parking tickets or worse. The front desk told me that would be fine, and even allowed me to check in early, which was wonderful as I could freshen up, charge my phone and put my bags in my room, rather than having to retrieve them from the car hours later. Having read reviews about small rooms, I have to say I was quite happy with the size. Please see my pictures to judge for yourself. The bed was very comfortable, but it was the pillows that were beyond what I could have dreamed of. Perfectly plump, yet still firm enough to cradle your sleeping head in that "just right" position. After a night out at the Dubliner and the Times, I came back and crashed, and slept soundly through the night. Maybe that was the Jameson. The next morning, I stopped by the front desk to request some toiltries, and they made it to my room before I did. In the limbo between the hotel and the Dubliner is a small dining room for breakfast (It is at an additonal cost). The service was not good and it was terribly overpriced. I had looked forward to the Irish sodabread that accompanied breakfast according to the menu. After I had placed my order, a couple ordered nearby, and I overheard their waitress say they were out of soda bread. She offered an alternative: croissant, English muffin or toast. Sweet! I must have just ordered the last of it. When my food arrived, my server said, "I'm sorry they are out of soda bread, here is some toast." Didn't even ask. So I told her to bring me a croissant instead. To be fair to Phoenix Park, I am not sure if the waitstaff works for the hotel or the restaurant, so no points off PPH's score. The food was okay. Not great. It was not the real Irish breakfast I had hoped for. I could have made a better meal for myself and for a hell of alot less than $23.00. Back upstairs, I lounged around in the super comfy terry cloth robe for awhile, before heading out to hit the town. Leaving the room sometime around 11:00, I was shocked when I found that scattered throughout the hotel's hallways were last night's room service trays which had never been picked up. That is gross, and the only black spot on the service at Phoenix Park. This close to Union Station, the Capitol, the museums and restaurants there was no need to take the car out of parking. Lots to see and do on foot. At the end of the day, I asked the front desk if I could have a later check out and they very politely noted that in the record with no extra charge. I settled in and had another great night's sleep. Sunday morning I had breakfast at Union Station instead of the hotel, and spent a few hours moseying aroud the shops and sights. Came back, brought my bag down, checked out without a hitch and had the valet get the car out of the off-site parking. It takes about 5-10 minutes for one's car to arrive. Forty bucks a day Seems a bit much, but what else are you going to do? Tipped him for his good service and headed back home. In spite of the trays in the hallway, I still feel the hotel deservesd 4.5 stars. Everything else they did showed made me feel like a valued guest, so I will round that up to a 5 in the rankings. I will staying there again this weekend, and we will see if any changes to my score need be made based on my next visist. read more

This is a great hotel with a lot of charm! The rooms are smaller, but definitely cozy and very Irish. The bathroom was excellent and the hotel, overall, is in a great location! I was able to walk here from Union Station as it was so close. The Capitol is also very close by and in walking distance. There is a fishy smell in the elevator for some reason, but wasn't anything that I couldn't handle. I'm assuming it is because the entrance to The Dubliner restaurant is right near it and they do have many fish dishes. I will definitely be returning to this hotel again when I return to D.C.! read more

I recently stayed here for one weeknight in April 2021. I was traveling solo (senior citizen male) and arriving by train at DC's Union Station. I booked the room online, on the morning of my arrival in DC. I got a king bed room with a good view out the front of the building, and my room cost just $125 including tax and fees. I was very pleased. It was a good stay. This historic, upscale hotel has a beautiful lobby, but it's not large. Ditto for he room. It was not spacious, but it was good. During the pandemic there was food and other services available on a certain floor, upstairs in the hotel, but I did not visit it. There is a lively, popular Irish pub on the ground floor of this hotel, but again I did not use the restaurant. I had dinner at an outdoor cafe in the Dupont Circle neighborhood and I had a sit-down breakfast at Corner Bakery restaurant, a block away from the hotel. In total this was a very good experience. I highly recommend the Phoenix Park hotel at this price. Maybe it's a lower price, just due to the pandemic? read more

Well, I stayed here one night and their HVAC system was broken. The room was tiny and outdated as well. Unfortunately, I stayed on the top floor and it was hotter than sin out and in the room! The Phoenix Park Hotel has an identity crisis. It desperately wants to be a 4 star hotel, and it superficially has implemented many of the attributes you'd expect to see at 4 star hotels--doorman, pool, business center, bathrobes/irons in the room, "300 thread-count Egyptian Cotton Linens" (as advertised on its website), etc. In addition, it has a prime location just a block away from Union Station and a few blocks from the Capitol that should support higher room rates. The problem is that the hotel has implemented the attributes on the cheap, so it still feels like a 2 star hotel. Among its attributes that are inconsistent with a higher star ranking: * incredibly outdated decor. It's like how my grandparents decorated their home in the 1950s. * poor noiseproofing. I begged the front desk staffer to give me a quiet room on check-in, and I got Room 620, which has only a single one-foot-wide window that looks onto a brick wall. I didn't hear a ton of outside noise with this setup, though I can see why outside noise would be a issue for other rooms. Still, I could hear virtually every sound from my next-door neighbor's room. * front desk staff was not up-to-par. A few other minor details I didn't like: the air conditioning fan blasted right at my pillow (it was so bad I turned off the air conditioning) and a bedside clock so bright that I had to cover it up at night. Still, I was satisfied overall with my stay. Why? Because I paid a two-star price for the hotel. Thanks to an Expedia special, I paid $93 per night + tax, which was a great deal for its location and amenities. If I had paid a four-star price for the hotel ($200+/night), I would have felt massively overcharged. So I think your enjoyment will directly depend on what you expect from the hotel. Expect a 2 star experience and pay a 2 star price, and you'll probably think you got a great deal. Expect a 4 star experience and pay a 4 star price, and you're likely to be disappointed. read more

We planned a stay at the historic Phoenix Park for our elopement, and after the initial ceremony location fell through, they allowed us to hold the ceremony right there in one of their suites! Hotel was gorgeous, and the staff was incredibly courteous and kind. Spotless, with hand sanitizer stations easily accessible throughout :) Would definitely stay here again. We stayed somewhere else in the beginning of our trip but I wish we'd been here the entire time. Our room was upgraded to a suite and there was a personalized note with some treats left for us when we got to the room after checking in. There is an on-site restaurant but we took advantage of the nice weather and walked to dinner a little further away. Lots of places are within less than a mile and a half so any Uber/lyft rides are cheap. read more

My husband and I stayed here four nights around Christmas, as a present to each other, a vacation before going to see family. The next 2 nights Christmas Eve and Christmas we stayed at a hotel near family in Richmond VA, at a 4 star hotel, and with a huge room but we both agreed we slept much better and enjoyed our time at the Phoenix more. It was a short walk to and from the train station. The staff was was friendly and helpful. The Dubliner had a great menu with yummy food and fair prices and so we opted to eat there 3 of the nights. There was a Corner Bakery nearby for a less expensive breakfast. The wifi was free, a great feature. The decor was sweet and charming. Walking to museums was easy from this location. I booked 6 months out and found prices I was pleased with. The Postal Museum across the street was a really good and worth going into, especially if you have a few hours before your train. The bell man will hold your bags for you after you check out so you can site see. The bed was the best! The bed is the most important thing about a hotel stay. The bed was tall, with down comforter, down pillows, great mattress and restful content sleep. We both were crazy about the bed. There were just a few small negatives. I wanted to put some drinks in the fridge and found it was not cold and seemed to have mold. There was a slight mildew like smell in the room. My husband felt the small size of the room was hard to pack & unpack in. There was no chocolate mints or Bailies on the pillow like previous commenters mentioned. I wished there was an included breakfast, but there was a continual on Christmas Eve. read more

We stayed this past week for 5 days at the Phoenix. We had a great experience there! Our view was amazing. One window was of the National Guard Memorial Museum, another was the postal museum, and the third was Union Station. Amazing location, nice size room for in DC. You pay for the location, but it can't be beat. 4 minute walk to Union Station means easy access to the Metro, buses, & Amtrak. Tons of food options at Union Station or stay at the hotel for dinner. We chose to go to Union Station. However, the staff was great. We were able to store our luggage before check in & after checkout so we could go sightseeing easily. We will stay again. read more

We arranged a room block for our out of town wedding guests at The Phoenix Park Hotel. From the start, Tracy Zahn was on top of things. She worked with me to secure the right amount of rooms at an amazing room rate, and coordinated with our guests directly on special requests. The hotel was ideally located for our Capitol Hill wedding and provided guests with easy access to many of the city's nearby sights. The location couldn't have been more perfect. As we neared our wedding date, Tracy was in almost daily contact with me to see if there was anything they could do to make our day even better. They delivered welcome bags to each of our guests upon check-in, which we heard from friends and family that this a smooth process. We also received positive feedback from guests regarding the dining options provided through The Dubliner. We were able to utilize two of their bi-level suites as "get ready" rooms and they provided access to their upstairs bar area and grand stair case as the staging of our "first look." Tracy also coordinated with several of our vendors as well (florist dropping of bouquets, transportation services, etc.) We stayed in their Penthouse Suite the night of our wedding and were surprised with a bottle of champagne and sweet note of congrats from Tracy. On a separate note from our wedding activities, I lost my Aggie ring (college ring) during the chaos of the wedding day. My Aggie ring is something I've worn every day since receiving it 17 years ago. I was crushed when we realized it was missing. I assumed it was gone forever - we searched everywhere for it. I emailed Tracy to see if by chance it had been found. While we were on our honeymoon, her team never stopped looking. In fact, 10 days after our wedding, the ring was found and returned. I was (still am) so appreciative of the entire staff for keeping up the search. So, I highly recommend The Phoenix Park for any stay in DC! Their team is a class act. read more

Location is the best part of this hotel. You can walk to the Capitol so easily. Union Station is a hop and a skip away. It is definitely clean and comfortable, but don't expect anything too crazy. It is obvious that it's a very old building, but so are most buildings in the NE. The front desk staff was a tad slow in checking us in but we were also a group of 8 with 8 different rooms, so I suppose there could be some complications from that. Most people complain about noise so they provide you with ear plugs, but I didn't have that problem in my room. However, 2 rooms in our party had A/C problems and their rooms were 80 degrees. For the price, it's probably worth it. read more

I did an event at the hotel in the Powerscourt Room. What a great staff!!! The entire process was smooth from the booking to the billing. The Banquet staff, in particular the manager and bartender, really made the event go smoothly. They were attentive to our needs and made us feel important. You can tell they love their jobs and the hotel. The hotel itself has a lovely old Ireland charm to it that you can't find anywhere else in the city. From the moment you step in you feel like you have been transported to a different country. I wish I had had the chance to stay there. I will definitely be back!! read more

I have not been an overnight guest there, however I am in a position to review their banquet services, which are outstanding. I work for an attorney who is the president of a club that produces monthly lunches, attendance at which is conditioned on the proximity to Capitol Hill, so the location is perfect. Secondly, the food is the best mass produced banquet food I've had. We typically serve chicken breast, which can be dry, but the chef manages to serve it partially on the bone, thus it's juicy but still easy to slice and eat. The quality and presentation is restaurant worthy; the desserts (cheesecake, mini chocolate mousse) are also delicious. Tracy and Cassell, the banquet managers, are a delight to work with. Attendance has increased since we've been holding our regular lunches there and the members have expressed their approval of the entire experience. read more

Make sure you request a room toward the front. My room was off the alley adjacent to two bars. I heard bins of bottles all night long. First the bars emptying their trash, the trucks to collect them. The rooms are small and feel a little unkempt. It's cheap but you get what you pay for. read more

This hotel is right next to the train station, which is really helpful. However, I wouldn't feel safe walking from the hotel to anywhere else after dark, so in retrospect I would have stayed somewhere else on the red line. The room and the hotel were fine but dated. My toilet seat was dirty, and the toilet paper dispenser fell off of the wall and rolled behind the toilet immediately. Room service was Irish food, and it was poorly done and delivered late, with the room service folks not realizing that the drink wasn't a twist off and taking another 45 min to deliver a can opener. The staff were very nice, but I wouldn't stay here again. read more
