Not a bad hotel located near the Capital and Union Station. If you have meetings in the area it is convenient, otherwise I would chose a hotel closer to Dupon Circle. The rooms are top notch and on par with a Marriot, but the gym was closed for renovation although their website did not reflect this. read more

Adorable building on the corner, about one block away from the train station. We got there before check in time, so we asked if they can hold our bags till we can check in after 3:00 pm. The were very understanding and she looked in the computer and was able to find a room that was ready for use. We were an hour earlier then check-in time. We were on the 7th floor. In the corner, facing the post office/union station area. Room was small but we were able to get around. Clean but the ottomen was with a broken leg. so we couldn't sit on it. We did however put our luggage on it without it falling down. Elevators are small. They offered free coffee in the morning, Their vending machines are on the 6th floor, and for a dollar you can get a can of pepsi or coke, instead of paying $4.00 dollars for a small bottle of evian water that they have in the room. I had brought two smart water pints from my store so i was drinking that. read more

Location is fabulous- just a few blocks from Union Station- so if you're looking for convenience, this is the spot! I think your experience definitely depends on the occasion and the room you choose. I know their suites are tremendous- great views and fabulous decor. We stayed in a standard room and it was very very small- which was fine- but just unexpected. The valet service was a bit frustrating-- there's really not much room to wait for a valet- and once you get to the spot to wait, they aren't always there to greet you. If at all possible, I'd recommend finding garage parking on another block. I did order room service- and it was super late (took 90 minutes) which was pretty inconvenient as I was almost late to work. Staff was nice, just wasn't thrilled with the experience. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights over last weekend and I must say, had a wonderful stay. We were able to check in early on Thursday around noon as we had arrived early from BWI via the MARC train. Union Station is right across the street which made arrival, as well as a quick coffee in the AM, quite convenient. Everyone we dealt with, from check in to check out was very friendly and very accommodating. We were given the Kerry Suite, which is 2 levels with a spiral staircase. The decor is traditional Irish, with floral brocade wallpaper and drapes. On the first level there was a queen sofabed, a desk, and a flat panel TV. The stairs led to the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The bathroom was also on this floor. The suite is small even though spread out over 2 floors. Not too small, just not large. It was a perfect place to call home for 3 days while sightseeing in DC. The location could not be better with it's proximity to Union Station and the metro. We walked most everywhere, as it is also convenient to the Penn Quarter, Capitol Hill, and Chinatown. To get to the White House we did call downstairs for a cab as it was 6:30AM for a 7:30AM tour. When we got downstairs we were greeted by a charming man who drove us there in a beautiful Lincoln Town Car for the same price as a taxi. Apparently he has a lot of clients that stay at the Phoenix Park and was there at that right time to be able to offer us a luxury ride. It was a nice little perk to arrive at the White House in style. Overall we had a great time at the Phoenix Park and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable clean and slightly upscale hotel in a great location. read more

This hotel is on par with a motel six. Except the rate is higher and they THINK they have a good product. We got put into a suite and so many things were wrong with this room. The TV was green, the fan didn't work, the AC was broken...and the best of all...THERE WAS MOLD ALL OVER THE PLACE! It smelled terrible. I started getting an allergy attack right off the bat. We did go back to the front desk and they moved us to another room. Which was better. Funny thing is we went there as a VIP bc we wanted to make them a hotel convention. We took a tour of the place and a lot of the rooms smelled like mold. Some of the rooms we closet size. Only fitting a bed and small desk. They gave us a "basket" of goodies that consisted of 3 chocolate bars, 2 granola fruit bars, 1 small pack of cheese crackers, 2 mini waters and 2 sodas. Really? Wow....just wow. They said the place was getting a make over so we decide to give them a try bc of their location and proximity to our other hotels. The worst part of the whole thing...they lie. The sales guy agreed to let us take over (and by take over I mean we sold every damn room in the place) the hotel and have the ballroom space for 24 hours for 2 nights. They then went back on their word and said "in the contract, it states that we only have to give them to you until 11:59pm." They did this 1 WEEK BEFORE THE CONVENTION!!! Kind of screwed us. Going back on your word...not professional AT ALL! Also, wall units for heat and AC. Really? 1970 is calling and they like their product back! Can you say super dry in those rooms, which is funny bc of all the mold! Oh and did I mention construction going on outside. Hope you enjoy being woken up at 6am with banging. There are so many other beautiful and well equipped locations all of varieties in DC in any neighborhood. I highly recommend using one of them...ESPECIALLY if you want to throw anything special at all. read more

We chose this hotel for its proximity to Union Station, and the reasonable price. It's a very cute boutique Irish hotel. The staff is very curteous, and held our baggage for us until check in time (we even got in early). The rooms are small, but we were fortunate enough to get a room on the top floor, so it had high ceilings and additional windows on the top of the wall. The bed is also raised up high, which makes it fun. And there is a heat lamp in the bathroom. The room temperature was also easy to control. Downside is there is some traffic noise at night, But I would stay here again, it was too easy to get around. Definitely felt safe. read more

I stayed at the Phoenix Park Hotel on and off for a month while my house was undergoing construction, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Though I chose it initially because of its location, I continued to return because it is extremely clean, the staff is warm and helpful, and I love the way the rooms feel. Beautiful blue walls, marble countertops, lovely fixtures. Super modern and cozy. The beds are super comfortable, the decor is well-done, and staying here has made the annoyance of having to be out of my house MUCH more tolerable. If you're very sensitive to outside noise, I'd ask for a room on the non-street side of the building. This is a city though, so noise should be expected. (Perk: They do provide ear plugs in every room!) I have recommended this hotel to friends from out of town and would happily choose to come here again. read more

I stayed here last summer and thought the rooms were nice and cozy, the staff was super friendly, and the room rates were on par considering the convenient location (across the street from Union Station). This is not a modern hotel with room service or even a bar. However, there are so many good places to eat within a 2 minute walk that it doesn't matter. Stayed at the Phoenix Park Hotel for the Inauguration. A lovely hotel with a great location in DC. Beautiful and clean! The staff was friendly and very helpful. We had a small miscommunication with my guests arriving before me but it was remedied quickly. The Dubliner Pub is part of the hotel. We ate breakfast here each morning and the food was very good. We had only one waiter who was unbelievably rude but we just kinda laughed it off as the rest of our experience was so positive. The Dubliner had been taken over for a private event on one night, but we were able to order food to go and take to our room. The rooms are small but this is a historic hotel so i believe it is something you would have to expect. The most comfortable bed I have every slept in!! Bathroom is a good size. T read more

I stayed at the Phoenix Park Hotel back in November when I had business at the nearby US Tax Court. It was my first time staying in DC and the proximity to both the Tax Court building and Union Station was a major factor in choosing this hotel. I was able to rely on walking and public transit to get around fairly easily. The front desk staff was extremely courteous and helpful, helping me with any questions I had about getting around the city. The hotel was about a half hour walk from the US Capitol building, and from there I was able to hit the Smithsonian, Holocaust museum, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, MLK memorial, and Lincoln Memorial over the course of the day. If you're the type of person able to walk around for hours to explore a city, you'll love DC. Other pros: -Free wifi -Irish pub on the first floor (awesome) -Historically relevant -Decent rates -Decent rooms (who hangs out in the room anyway?) -Proximity to Union Station made it very easy to get in and out of the city without relying on a taxi. Toured this hotel for business purposes (meeting space and sleeping rooms). Was thoroughly impressed with the multi-million dollar renovation (my organization has used this hotel in the past). It is convenient walking distance from Union Station, great restaurants, our office, and many other touristy attractions. I see many people have mentioned small rooms, however there are many rooms that are quite spacious. Of the five or so room types that I saw during the tour, all were well appointed. This hotel also features bi-level suites and fabulous Penthouse suites, as well as the Dubliner Restaurant, where I enjoyed a great lunch. Overall I found this hotel to be clean, bright and modern and would definitely use this hotel for business and personal needs. Every hotel employee I encountered was courteous. read more

Secretly parked across the street (which is a govt. parking lot that empties out by 4:30 on Fridays) and parked for free all weekend. The place has a good location, about 4 block from the capital. The room was clean. House keeping was a bit negligent in keeping the ice bucket clean and stocking plastic cups. My biggest complaint is over a 4 night stay we were charged 3 different room rates, Service did not improve with the rate increase. Also valet parking is $55/night for a garage 1/2 block away. We booked the same garage separately for $18/night. read more

While it is not bare bones amenities are limited and parking is expensive. For some reason the rooms are a bit noisy both from other rooms as well as from the street traffic. We got a decent deal on Hotel Tonight but there may very well be better deals in other nice hotels in the immediate area. I like the Phoenix Park Hotel.!!! Small, very quaint and close to Union Station so easy access to Metro and Amtrak. View of the Capitol when leaving the hotel is an nice feature as well. Unlike other reviewers I found the staff wonderful. From the front desk person (my room wasn't ready when I arrived and she offered to call me on when it was ready.. Guess what? She really did call me.!!!) to the bellman (Jerry who parked my car) to just about everyone else.. Lobby is very small and can get jammed during checkout but the hotel handles the chaos well. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Noise level is minimal even when the hotel is fully occupied. Great many European touches to the hotel as well. Small elevators, an old mail chute to drop your cards and letter in and, yes, I actually saw the postal worker checking the mailbox.! Hotel is connected to the Dubliner Irish Pub. Food was good; Guinness better.!! Rates are typical for DC which can shock a few folks but, remember, it is Washington, DC. I'd recommend the Phoenix Park Hotel and hope I'll be able to score a room there when I'm back in Washington, DC. read more

Nothing fantastic. The rooms were small, carpets stained and faded. The bathrooms were dated and needed to be fixed up. Heavy dust on the make up for the AC. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. This place is close to the capitol, museums and only a few blocks from Union Station. The breakfast place downstairs was ok, WAY overpriced for eggs, potatoes, A piece of bacon and A sausage link with Soda bread. The menu said it came with a tomato and melted cheddar cheese, but we were told the menu was outdated and needed to be changed...ummm ok. The menus were paper stock in a clear slip on cover, so much for attention to detail. The food was good but $50 for coffee, juice and breakfast for two is insane. The service was ok, nothing remarkable. Location and front desk staff made this hotel a 2 star versus a 1 star. There are way to many other options in DC so this wont be on be return list. read more

Do not go to this hotel unless you want to find a very unpleasant surprise upon arrival. After 5 hours of flying and a line to grab a cab, I was at the Phoenix Park at 10:30 PM. When I arrived at the Hotel I could tell something was wrong. A manager came promptly to tell me that there had been a flood and they were sending me to a sister hotel somewhere else. They must think I am a complete idiot because it was obvious the flood story was a lie. I asked why they had not sent me a message to warn me. The manager was sweating trying to come up with an excuse. On top of everything she wanted me to feel grateful they were sending me to a different hotel. That is, I was not going to sleep on the streets of DC next to Capital Hill. I write this from a pretty bad "sister" hotel 15 minutes away. My conference is happening tomorrow a block from the Phoenix Park and it starts at 7:30 AM. The manager was completely unfazed by all this and wants me to stop by after my conference so I get reimbursed for the taxi fares. They are obviously trained to cheat customers all the time. read more

We travel a lot (and my husband travels for a living) and this is by far the nicest hotel we have every stayed in. Every single person we encountered, from outside driving up to the women who clean the rooms, were helpful, cheery, welcoming, and caring. The room was spacious, clean, the towels ! so thick and luxurious. The floors are wood, they're not carpet, and so there's an extra special feeling of cleanliness, and the air conditioning superb. The location couldn't be better and, having grown up in DC, I was amazed by how gentrified everything is now, there were no concerns of personal security walking around, even at night. You're a hop and a skip from many of the most famous attractions and, if you learn to use the Metro, you're blocks away from stations. There is a VERY inexpensive parking garage right around the corner at the Hall of the States which is open late and on weekends which avoids the rather hefty valet parking charge. The Dubliner restaurant, attached, is exceptional, with delicious food and often live entertainment. We ordered room service for breakfast the first day and I'm not kidding you when I tell you I enjoyed one of the best, most moist and delicious, blueberry muffin I've ever had in my life (and I'm not really a muffin kind of person). There is also a terrific "Corner Bakery" at the end of the block for a nice breakfast or lunch as well. Lastly, the price could not be beat. I couldn't believe we booked such a luxurious experience for little more than a $100 a night. read more

A full service place! We had a block of rooms for our son's wedding and it worked out very well. The price was outstanding (check with Tracy Zahn), the rooms clean and comfortable, and the staff extremely helpful with everything from umbrellas to directions to getting us a ride to the church. The location was great for getting around both Metro and The Mall. I'd highly recommend it for a group coming in for an event. read more

I have to say that the hotel stay was ok and the staff was fairly friendly. The price of the hotel was kind of high for me but it was the best location for the event that we were attending. The bar that it was connected to was great, great staff , great live band.... my issue with the Hotel began at check out and the following day. My husband paid for parking which was a bit high 50.00per night, so he paid 100.00.... on the receipt it had the 100.00 taken off and the amount that was owed and charged, the next day I look at my account and it was charged twice two different amounts one amount for 535.86 one for 585.36. I then called as soon as I saw the error and they kept telling me that I was wrong. I told them no I am not it two charges and I need it to be fixed or looked at. I have been calling since 9 am and its going on 4pm. I called The a man by the name of Micheal and was very rude to me. After calling back and forth and saying that I would leave a bad review, they called me back and decided to help me. what a nightmare for a beautiful weekend to a bad dream. read more

This hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly. The rooms are pretty small but really nice. We had one large king bed for 2 adults & 1 child which was plenty of room, especially since we were sightseeing rather than just hanging out in the hotel. It's location is good right across from Union Station that has a lot of food choices, and perfect if you at traveling in and out of DC through the station. Also across from the post office museum & only a few blocks from the Capitol & Supreme Court. You could walk to everything from here but that would be a lot of walking. The easiest & cheapest way to get to the Mall & all major sightseeing is to take the Circulator red line. The bus has a stop right across from the hotel. It's easy to get the bus card (same as the metro), and most of the bus drivers were super friendly & helpful to tourists. This hotel is less expensive than others closer to mall, etc. We would definitely stay here again due to location, convenience, friendly staff, & nice clean rooms. read more

My wife and I were there in mid-September. We were prepared for an Old World feel, and that is exactly what we got. The hotel is an easy walk from Union Station for Amtrak and Metro travel. All of the tour bus companies use Union Station as a stop on their itineraries, so it is super convenient for those as well. The front desk staff was pleasant but did get our day of departure wrong which was a minor inconvenience. Our room was a King and was small but more than adequate for two. The bed was really comfortable. The place was clean, the shower very good. The room had a safe in it and the wireless internet worked great. Housekeeping was polite and responsive. The Dubliner, has great food, drink and service. They have indoor and outdoor seating and is very popular. Resist the urge to go next door to the Irish pub....it cannot hold a candle to The Dubliner. You can walk to the National Mall, the Capitol, the Museums along Constitution but you have to be in pretty good shape. Otherwise, the tour companies are the way to go. read more

We had a block of rooms at the Phoenix Park Hotel for our wedding guests and held a breakfast at the hotel the morning after the wedding. Everything was great. Tracy Z. was fantastic to work with and led us through the planning process. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel is conveniently located near Union Station and the Capitol. It is also nice to have the Dubliner as a lunch/bar option for guests. I highly recommend the Phoenix Park for events. read more

For the first time my, wife and I stayed at this boutique hotel for 2 nights last weekend and found it to be superb - blocks from the Capitol , quiet, very clean, friendly and helpful staff, very reasonable rates and , as it has been renovated recently, the rooms/baths are like new. Even the doorman was very accommodating and helpful. We have stayed at numerous hotels in the past and this one rates right up there at the top. When we go back again, this will be our choice without question. In all honesty, I could not find anything to complain about ( except the toilet paper roll was on the far left side which made things difficult - but , no big deal). read more

I really love this hotel. It's small, personal, and in a great location! I find their weekend rates really reasonable. Union Station is only a couple of blocks away, so there is easy access to food and the metro. Capitol Hill is right up the street, you can walk to the Capitol, Supreme Court and Library of Congress (my favorite). The staff is friendly and helpful. The beds are so comfortable! They recently redecorated so everything is new. We brought our toddler with us on this trip and they were so accommodating! read more

The room was very clean and the furnishings were very nice, but the air conditioning was out for the entire night which made for a very difficult night's sleep considering it was a July night and over 80 degrees. Even in light of this major malfunction with the hotel, I was still charged full price for the room. No compensation (monetary or otherwise) was offered to guests, which was very disappointing. This would have been a 5-star review if the situation had been handled in a more considerate manner towards the guests. I would certainly return to the Phoenix Park Hotel in the future, but I'd ask ahead of time if all of the utilities are in proper working order. read more

I stayed here for a few nights for work in early 2015. I left my wedding ring up high in the shower. I came back from the airport and searched the room with the housekeeping staff, but no luck. An hour later the front desk called to tell me they'd found my ring and FedEx'd it to me that afternoon. That's real customer service for you. The hotel is quaint, the rooms are a little small, but the location, atmosphere, and price can't be beat. Oh yeah, and the customer service! I would definitely stay here again, and can't recommend it highly enough. read more

By far the worst hotel i've ever stayed at, in my life. The door man actually full out YELLED at my friend and I. Yelled. that is just not acceptable! We had done nothing wrong, he just didn't understand english and got mad at us. Then it took him over an hour to park our car for us because sadly they had no valet on staff on a saturday night... Our room was booked ahead of time and then completely messed up. We asked for 2 rooms, but only got one. The food at the irish bar was decent, but the hours/places in the hotel you could order changed without notice. When I went to ask about these problems I was told no manager would be on staff till monday and it was a saturday night. I got no real answer for why we were being treated so rudely! I had been tipping all the staff 8-10 dollars my whole stay and now regret that. If you want an old, loud, small hotel thats over-priced with rude staff... then stay here! I've stayed at many dc hotels and there are MUCH better options then this place. read more
